OVERVIEW
THE BRIEF
Blending Industry with Nature in the Heart of the South Downs
Vanguard Logistics Park is a new industrial development spanning 15 acres and located in Longmoor, Hampshire within the South Downs National Park, an area protected for conservation due to its landscape and biodiversity.
The site has been awarded BREEAM Outstanding accreditation due to its excellent environmental and sustainability features and design sympathetic to the local area.
As part of the external landscape, Langley Design worked with Benniman and UMC Architects to create a street furniture package in keeping with the site’s architectural vision featuring green roofs and the use of natural timbers. The package included sedum roof cycle shelters, bin storage facilities, seating and a large pergola over parking spaces.
WHAT WE DID
Street furniture that combines functionality with a natural aesthetic
To compliment and blend in with the external landscape, a large Sheldon Sedum Roof Cycle Shelter (SCS304) was installed, designed and manufactured using Treated Redwood TRC4 with a galvanised steel framework. The green roof promotes biodiversity and encourages wildlife whilst also providing sheltered cycle parking. The cycle shelter was fitted with Malford Two Tier Cycle Racks (MCR205), made from galvanised steel, creating ample parking space for up to 50 bicycles.
9 Sheldon Bin Storage solutions (SBS302) provide a secure and ventilated storage facility. Clad in Treated Redwood (TRC4) and equipped with sliding, lockable gates the bin stores integrate seamlessly with the natural landscape, combining practicality with aesthetic appeal.
Extensive timber seating spaces were created using
9 Sheldon Benches (SBN339) in a variety of lengths and straight and curved shapes, designed to provide a space for employees and visitors to meet and encourage social interaction.
A large Sheldon Pergola (SPG334) made from Treated Redwood TRC4 was installed over a parking area offering partial shade and shelter and creating a natural aesthetic, as well as planting opportunity for climbers.
THE RESULT
Sustainable designs at an industrial scale
Langley Design worked closely with Benniman to implement the complete street furniture package at Vanguard Logistics Park which successfully reinforces the development’s commitment to sustainability, quality and sensitive design within the South Downs National Park.
By combining robust materials with natural timbers and living green roofs, the scheme delivers practical, high-capacity facilities for the workforce while enhancing biodiversity and visual harmony with the surrounding landscape.
The sedum roof cycle shelter supports sustainable travel and provides secure parking for up to 50 bicycles, while the integrated bin stores offer discreet, secure waste management. Carefully positioned seating areas encourage wellbeing and social interaction, and the timber pergola introduces shade, structure and planting opportunities to soften the parking environment.
Together, these elements create a cohesive external environment that balances industrial functionality with ecological value and user comfort; contributing meaningfully to the site’s BREEAM Outstanding achievement.
