OVERVIEW
The Tees Viaduct, built in 1975, required critical repairs to its deteriorated concrete. Rather than opting for demolition and rebuild, contractor CRL implemented an innovative impressed current cathodic protection system, extending the structure's lifespan by 80 years. This approach minimized disruption on the busy transport route, used by 100,000 vehicles daily, while ensuring sustainability and reliability.
Using Fosroc's concrete repair solutions—including Renderoc LA and HB45—CRL delivered the £8.5M project on time and within budget. Fosroc’s technical support, quality control measures, and Carbon Calculator helped achieve significant CO2 reductions (~98% for concrete elements). The outcome is a robust, sustainable structure that will last for decades with minimal impact on traffic flow.
"Fosroc products deliver consistent quality and a right-first-time approach," noted Daren King, Northern Regional Director at CRL.
