TalkTalk is a top UK telecom provider serving over 4 million customers with various communication services. Success is attributed to providing affordable, reliable, and fair services for all.

To support growth and improve service, TalkTalk operates data centers across the country with stringent security measures like perimeter fencing and access control to protect data.


Background

To support TalkTalk’s continued growth and ensure they can offer the best possible service to their customers.

TalkTalk operates several data centres nationwide to manage their own internal networks and IT requirements.


To ensure that data is secure, TalkTalk has implemented robust security measures with several layers of physical

security, from perimeter fencing and manned access gates to internal access-controlled doors.


Challenge

Verification parameters are required to provide access to authorised personnel, prevent tailgating attempts into the

secure area, and ensure users are who they say they are. A multi-area secure line, meaning layered solutions, is also

required.

The overall challenge is to prevent risks associated with unauthorised building access, such as data theft or vandalism.


Solution

A solution would provide access to authorised personnel whilst preventing tailgating attempts. Meesons, therefore, proposed the installation of a security portal at each site, allowing access only to authorised personnel.


To ensure no tailgating attempts would be possible, each portal was fitted with anti-tailgating sensors, preventing more than one user from transiting at a time. Each portal was fitted with a two-zone pressure mat for added security,

providing an extra verification parameter for tailgating detection. The two-zone pressure mat requires users

to stand on the grey square during verification.


Outcome

Following the successful completion of the installation, Meesons was appointed to oversee the service and maintenance of the security portals. Since the installation, each security portal has become an integral layer of TalkTalk’s security.
