Stafford Yard, Bristol

OVERVIEW

Fully Integrated Cycle Storage & End-of-Trip Solution for a New Modern Development

Stafford Yard is a major residential development forming part of the wider Bedminster Green regeneration, which plans to deliver high-quality homes and sustainable transport links to one of Bristol’s fastest-evolving districts.

With active travel positioned at the heart of the development strategy, Dandara appointed The Bike Storage Company to design, supply, and install a complete cycle storage and end-of-trip solution across multiple buildings.

The objective was to create a safe, accessible, and future-proof cycling environment that meets the demands of modern city living while aligning with long-term sustainability goals.

The Project

As more residents choose cycling for commuting, leisure and local transport, Stafford Yard required an infrastructure that featured high capacity, robust security, and ease of use.

In collaboration with ECE Westworks, our in-house design team developed a configuration that maximised usable space while maintaining safe access routes, ventilation requirements, and coordination with surrounding plant and containment systems.

To accomodate varying user needs, the solution had to incorporate the combination of multiple rack formats, individual lockers and integrated maintenance provisions.

Our Solution

Gas-Assisted Two Tier Racks

Chosen for their reliability and space efficiency, our Gas-Assisted Two-Tier Cycle Racks offer effortless lifting and smooth operation for residents of all ages.

These racks formed the backbone of the cycle store, providing maximum density without compromising usability.

Vertical & Folding Bike Lockers

With a growing number of residents using Brompton-style folding bikes, the development required secure personal lockers to complement communal storage.

Installed in dedicated bays, the lockers offer:

  • Full-height enclosed security
  • Digital or key-locking options
  • Ventilated steel construction
  • Clear internal organisation
  • The vertical bike lockers expanded capacity further by offering single-bike, space-saving storage suited to smaller residents’ stores and staff areas.

Sheffield Stands

Extremely popular, manufactured in Britain and built to last, the Sheffield Stands provided:

  • Wheel & frame locking points
  • Pedestrian-friendly spacing
  • Corrosion-resistant galvanised finish
  • Easy integration with surrounding layouts

These stands serve as the reliable, low maintenance core of the scheme’s ground-level bicycle parking.

Maintenance Stations

Positioned at key points within the store, they ensure cyclists can service and maintain bikes independently – enhancing the overall user experience and promoting long-term cycling habits.

Each Maintenance Station includes:

  • Eight tethered tools
  • A heavy-duty floor pump
  • Universal mounting system
  • Tamper-resistant fixings

Bespoke Clothing Lockers

To support a complete end-of-trip environment, we supplied and installed bespoke Clothing Lockers designed to store personal items safely.

Quality assurance documents confirm:

  • Full carcass alignment and levelling
  • All exposed screws capped with colour-matched covers
  • Doors and hinges running freely
  • Plinths fitted and laminate checked for imperfections

These lockers provide practical, secure day-to-day convenience for residents using the cycle facilities

Quality, Compliance & Delivery

Every product supplied came with:

  • 10-year product warranty (excluding moving parts)
  • 12-month installation defects warranty
  • Full QA documentation and handover packs
  • Conformity certificates covering the entire installation
  • Installation by TBSC’s in-house team for complete control and consistency

Our coordinated approach ensured alignment with the development’s fire strategy, drainage layouts, service containment routes, and structural considerations - all evidenced in the detailed MEP and wall-type plans provided by the main contractor.

The project was delivered on programme, with every component Made-in-Britain and installed to specification.

A Sustainable, Resident-First Cycling Environment

The result is a modern, secure and user-focused cycling provision that supports:

  • Active travel goals
  • Local sustainability ambitions
  • Resident wellbeing and convenience
  • Bristol’s long-term transport strategy

By combining high-capacity communal storage with secure personal lockers and robust End-of-Trip amenities, Stafford Yard sets a new benchmark for residential cycle infrastructure across the region.

This project reflects our ongoing commitment to helping developers create safe, accessible, and future-ready cycling environments that add long-term value to major urban developments.
