OVERVIEW
Central to the Latymer Upper School project was the clients wish to use natural materials, plant life and timber, for a positive environmental impact and to help improve the mental health of everyone using the area. The Boxer integrated seating was a good example of this, as the timber cladding helped ‘soften’ the landscape.
Also, the need to control litter in the area was a concern. With poorly designed furniture, litter and leaves can quickly collect in the underside of seating. This litter is hard to remove, looks bad, and more importantly, can become a fire risk. Therefore, to nullify this challenge we designed and manufactured a modular seating system based on the Boxer seating design.
The landscape architects wanted to design and incorporate a wide range of physical features with unique shapes to aid circulation through the space. Perfect for this application the Boxer seating and Stapel planter collection both offered the required flexibility thanks to their modular design. Furthermore, they enhanced the overall aesthetic of the project, with the Bronze Pinto finish contrasting nicely with the historic brickwork of the buildings and the timber coated planters helping fulfil the natural materials brief.
