OVERVIEW
In September 2021, the Woolworths Distribution Centre faced significant condensation issues due to temperature disparities between their cold storage areas and adjacent office spaces. This condensation led to water dripping hazards in meeting rooms, the canteen, and offices, posing safety concerns and potential damage to infrastructure.
Challenge
The primary challenge was to mitigate condensation resulting from the temperature differences between the cold storage facilities and the warmer office environments. An effective solution was needed to prevent moisture accumulation and ensure a safe, dry working environment.
Solution
To address this issue, Heat Zone Distribution supplied DEVI electric heating cables, and NWR Electrical Services managed the installation. The project encompassed a 700.71 m² area, divided into four zones. Thermostats were integrated into the switchboards, creating a "set and forget" system that automatically regulates temperatures to prevent condensation. The installed system had a total power of 2,743.21 W and utilized products such as DEVIsnow™ 30T, DEVIbasic™ Drum Goods, DEVIreg™ 330, and DEVIbasic™ 10S.
Outcome
Post-installation, the distribution centre successfully eliminated condensation issues, ensuring safe and dry conditions in all affected areas. The DEVI electric heating system proved to be an effective, space-saving, and low-maintenance solution, addressing the temperature disparities between the cold storage and office spaces.
This case demonstrates how targeted electric heating solutions can effectively manage environmental control challenges in facilities with varying temperature zones.
