OVERVIEW
Court Place Gardens is one of Oxford’s most forward-thinking residential developments, delivering 71 Passivhaus-standard homes for the University of Oxford’s postgraduate community. The scheme combines new-build accommodation with the sensitive refurbishment of a Grade II listed Mansion House, requiring every aspect of the external environment to balance sustainability, heritage, and long-term stewardship.
The Bike Storage Company was appointed to design, manufacture, and install a complete suite of bespoke cycle storage and bin store facilities across the development. As a city with one of the UK’s highest cycling modal shares, Oxford requires infrastructure that is resilient, secure, and user-centred — all while meeting stringent planning and sustainability standards.
Working closely with the project team, BSC delivered a fully coordinated package including secure bike shelters, high-capacity internal racks, and a tailored bin storage system that blends into the landscape architecture. Materials, finishes, and structural details were selected to align with the Passivhaus performance ethos, ensuring durability, low maintenance needs, and whole-life value. The installation included access-controlled units, integrated drainage systems, and FSC-certified timber cladding to complement the development’s natural palette.
The project underscores how design-led cycle storage can directly support planning success, resident wellbeing, and sustainability outcomes. The scheme went on to win a 2025 Oxford Preservation Trust Award, with judges highlighting its strong understanding of landscape, community needs, and long-term stewardship. BSC’s storage infrastructure played a key role in delivering secure, unobtrusive, and high-performance amenities for residents.
