55 Colmore Row

OVERVIEW

55 Colmore Row is a recently completed mixed use

development in the heart of Birmingham’s Central

Business District. Offering 160,000 sq ft of prime

Grade A office space, and is a perfect combination

of historical architecture and contemporary office

space. The historic 19th Century banking hall has been restored and reconfigured and takes pride of place as the building’s reception area. The bespoke illuminated reception desk provides a dramatic counterpoint to the traditional features of the banking hall.

Background

Once IM Properties took ownership in 2014, a remarkable metamorphosis unfolded, transforming 55 Colmore Row

into a one-of-a-kind, elite office environment. The building's Victorian facade, largely Grade II listed, is a cherished part of the historical cityscape. However, behind this facade,

a breathtaking redevelopment has occurred, yielding an extraordinary array of adaptable, top-tier office spaces.

Challenge

The client was tasked with installing speed gates that would harmonise with the glow of the reception desk. There was a clear goal optimising the available area without sacrificing its visual appeal.

On top of this, there was the challenge of ensuring the space accommodated a high volume of individuals utilising the reception lifts

Solution

The EasyGate BV Speed Gates were used as a canvas for creativity for this project. Implementing bespoke illuminated cabinets and glass wings, the features were crafted to echo the reception desk's design.

The client chose White GetaCore solid surface cladding for the gates, a striking complement to the surroundings.

Alongside this, LED light panels were seamlessly integrated into the cabinet legs, mirroring the reception desk's design.

The speed gate software was fine-tuned to offer dimmable light levels at the reception desk, casting the right mood

and ambiance.

To maximize available space, four lanes of EasyGate BV Speed Gates and two wide-access Pegas gates were proposed to the client. Access control for the Pegas gates was integrated into the speed gate side cabinet, a smart

use of space that keeps aesthetics intact.

In order to create a smooth flow of people using the lifts, technology had to be integrated to the speed gates.

“We are delighted with the Speed Gates Meesons have delivered, their unique design brilliantly complements the

reception area helping to create a stunning focal point when entering the building, whilst providing an added level of security to prevent unauthorised access.”
