Recyclability | Gerda Security Products recognises its responsibility to reduce environmental impact. Our environmental policy outlines our commitment and objectives for continual improvement. This is achieved through the implementation and monitoring of ISO 14001:2015 standards, alongside ISO 9001:2015 for quality and ISO 45001:2018 for health and safety. Our products are predominantly designed using timber, a natural, renewable material that stores carbon during its lifecycle - as a living tree and when used in construction. Timber can also be naturally broken down by microorganisms at the end of its service life. Timber can be repurposed, reduced into woodchip, or recycled at Waste Recycling Centres. Where other materials are used, we aim for recyclability and minimising landfill waste. These materials include glass, steel, and brass. Our paint facility uses water-based paints with low volatile organic compounds (VOCs). We collaborate with materials manufacturers who provide Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Waste management practices ensure only 12.7% of waste goes to landfill; the remainder is used for power generation through incineration at our manufacturing sites. Our sites are powered by 486 solar panels. Our transport fleet includes lorries, vans (both long wheelbase and smaller versions), and cars, with 25% electric or hybrid vehicles. Our sites operate 75% electric forklifts and provide EV charging points. LED lighting is installed across all manufacturing sites and offices for energy efficiency. Packaging is 98% recyclable cardboard with paper-based tape. Wood dust is re-purposed as animal bedding. |
