This seminar discusses the challenges that can arise for architects when dealing with practical completion. It considers the meaning of practical completion, why it is important, when it can go wrong and how contract administrators should deal with disputes. 

A review of the 2015 CDM Regulations from the principal designer and contract administrator's perspective.

This seminar aims to discuss the rights of designers. It will provide an introduction to intellectual property rights and demonstrate how they are created and protected. Topics covered will include sources of obligations, copyright, what works are protected, what rights exist, who owns them, what acts will infringe, defences, licences, BIM, remedies and avoiding disputes.

The architect as contract administrator will be assisted in discharging their obligations as an impartial certifier when assessing whether extensions of time for the contract period are due or not. The material covers the legal and contractual bases for extensions of time, and examines the technical and practical methods of assessment, and considers further legal issues arising from the issues of claims for extensions of time.
