A global construction, energy and infrastructure organisation required a durable, chemical resistant floor coating solution with an anti-slip profile that would withstand the daily wear and tear of its internal vehicle repair and maintenance facility. VINCI Construction is part of VINCI Group, a multinational enterprise with operations in the energy, infrastructure and construction industries. Founded in 1899, the company now has a presence in over 120 countries with a global team of around 220,000 people. The Widnes facility is one of ten VINCI Construction UK locations and houses, among other facilities, a vehicle maintenance workshop where the company ensures their fleet of general and specialist vehicles. The industrial unit that houses the workshop previously had a concrete paving slab floor that proved to be uneven, unsafe, and difficult to maintain.  Not only did the new flooring solution need to address these concerns, it also needed to be both slip and chemical resistant as well as feature clearly marked automotive bays and provide enough durability to withstand frequent wheeled traffic as well as the impact of dropped tools and the weight of heavy equipment. Installed in a combination of RAL 7037 Dusty Grey and RAL 6024 Traffic Green, vebrores EP HBC was installed across the 332 m2 vehicle workshop, with the Traffic Green used to mark out the facility’s six automotive bays, before being outlined using vebrodeck PU Linemarker in Yellow. Prior to the installation of vebrores EP HBC SR – a system comprising an initial layer of vebro EP Primer followed two coats of vebro EP Universal with a broadcast of 52 mesh silica sand after the first coat for an anti-slip profile – the pre-existing concrete paving slabs were first coated with an epoxy DPM and a 20.0 mm screed to level the surface. vebrores EP HBC SR is a pigmented, solvent-free, slip-resistant high build epoxy floor coating system that is best suited to floors in medium duty processing areas where a textured, hard-wearing, chemical resistant finish is required. Available in a wide range of BS 4008 or RAL matched shades, the system is ideally suited to areas where there is a need for navigational demarcation and zoning. 

The Award winning Erwlon Caravan and Camping Park in Llandovery, Southwest Wales is a family run park with a large range of facilities open all year round. It is an ideal base for touring, exploring, walking, mountain biking or cycling on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Cambrian Mountains. Erwlon Caravan Park contacted Frontier Pitts to upgrade their site entry and exit access control to an Automatic Rising Bollard system.The 600mm lift height stainless steel bollard was installed complete with safety photocells, safety vehicle detector loops and dual direction LED traffic light system. The bollard was connected to ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) which is linked back to a popular booking system for Holiday and Caravan Parks called ‘Anytime’. The complete system allowed visitors to book their holiday online and allows authorised visitor vehicles to gain access to the park during their stay, even allowing entry in the middle of the night when reception is closed. On the last day of the stay the system automatically deactivates the vehicle registration number after a predetermined time. Easter Holidays are known to be one of the busiest times of a Caravan and Holiday Parks year, and Erwlon Caravan Park were very pleased with the system. Frontier Pitts manufacture a range of made to order perimeter security barriers, bollards, and gates. Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service recently commissioned Norwich-based Cooks Industrial Doors to replace failing vehicle access doors at Long Melford Fire Station in rural Suffolk. As a major reseller and installer, Cooks contacted Jewers Doors to design and manufacture state-of-the-art sliding-folding doors which would replicate the style of the original doors.

The Grange University Hospital was opened ahead of schedule in November 2020 to meet the winter season pressures exacerbated by Covid-19 second wave. The largest area of hard landscape is outside the main front entrance and includes a pedestrian concourse, bicycle storage, bus stop and a one-way vehicle looped driveway, all constructed as a bound modular pavement.

Berry Systems supply and installed safety barriers and balustrading to protect loading bays, warehouse racking, pedestrian walkways and the plant.The new Co-Operative Composite Distribution Centre in Birtley covers 25,600 sq metres (276,000 sq ft) and supplies a vast range of products from 3,500 lines to 262 Co-Operative stores in the North of England.Activity in the centre is extremely busy with hundreds of vehicle movements daily facilitated by 500+ members of staff. We won the contract to supply and install all the safety barriers, balustrades, loading bay barriers and racking protectors inside the warehouse, as well as the vehicle perimeter barriers and ramp barriers externally.All the products, with the exception of the galvanised spring steel barriers, were painted in high visibility yellow. The spring steel barriers are designed to absorb  impacts from HGVs and forklift trucks while retaining their own integrity and ongoing effectiveness. The Co-Op were determined to ensure their new development was as environmentally friendly as possible. Waste oil helps provide heating and the lighting system is solar controlled to eliminate wastage. It ensures a variable level of interior lighting to automatically complement exterior levels.

1,000m of red and blue double skin FAIRs (factory assembled insulating rooflights) provide an even and diffused daylight spread in Middlewich environmental hub in Cheshire. The hub operates as a multi-use site and the angled composite panels were fitted to a recycling centre as well as a vehicle workshop. The FAIRs were manufactured to to meet the specific light transmission requirements stipulated by the customer and specified to meet insulation fire and safety requirements.

The perimeter fence provides a significant boundary, preventing members of the public from accidentally entering the site, and channelling site visitor to designated access points. A Bradford railway bridge near a junior school needed a proven solution to keep road users and the young pedestrians safe as part of a renovation. The solution for this project was the use of our Trief GST2 kerbs to protect both the footpath and the parapet to each side of the railway bridge and to stop vehicles from deviating onto the pavement and, ultimately, accidental incursion onto the railway lines. The Clipper Group warehouse in Northampton provides a distribution and logistics hub for multiple retail and high value brands. As such, Brandsafe were brought in to ensure that the warehouse is able to operate in a safe and efficient manner. Keeping the flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic moving smoothly and safely is the priority here, which was achieved by implementing secure caged walkways and Armco barriers with built-in pedestrian handrail, safety ends and gates. As a result, the employees and high value goods at Clipper are protected from potential vehicle impacts.

Berry Systems supplied and installed Internal and external vehicle safety barriers at new Aggreko, Dumbarton plant to protect; doorways, walkways, columns, site and equipment.Aggreko PLC, the world leader in the field of power and temperature control rental, has become the first company in the UK to have Berry Systems’ new Stopbollards installed at its new 170,000 sq ft Dumbarton facility.The many, internal and external vehicle doorways at the brand new Dumbarton site were identified very quickly as needing special protection. Glasgow architects Bradford Robertson considered a number of options before concluding with main contractors, Morgan Sindall, that our SlowStop bollards would prove a cost effective solution. During a collision, the kinetic energy of the impact is progressively absorbed as the post tilts, compressing an elastomeric sleeve within the base. The post is able to tilt from its vertical position to an angle of 20 before it locks within the base. After the impact the post will return back to its vertical position, ready to perform once again. Berry Systems completed works on behalf of our client, Bowmer & Kirkland, to deliver effective bespoke edge protection. We also installed rubber column protection and specialised bridge walkway pedestrian barrier to meet their specification requirements.The Porter Building houses 110, 625 square feet of office space for companies to utilise. It is conveniently situated in Slough with excellent transport links to key areas in London and the surrounding cities. The building itself has 100 car parking spaces and 100 bicycle parking spaces for employees and visitors to use. We were tasked with installing edge protection and vehicle restraint systems in the building to ensure both vehicle and pedestrian safety.The system installed was a perforated aluminium edge protection combined with buffer baseplates and mullion attached. This was designed in house by our design team to combine the two products delivering a compliant system meeting BS EN 1991-1-1 standards. Our team also designed the specialised bridge walkway pedestrian barrier to increase pedestrian safety on site. This particular project demonstrates our ability to design VRS solutions bespoke and being able to accommodate additional client requirements. In all of our projects, we work with our client to ensure that safety is the ultimate priority and the necessary industry standards are met.

Berry Systems helped our client Wates become car park compliant by designing, manufacturing and installing our vehicle restraint systems. A combination of our RB1, Barrier Rail profile and a Bespoke Rectangular Hollow Section system was utilised to fulfil the client’s requirements and exceed their expectations.Redrock is a new leisure facility located in the centre of Stockport which has a 360 space multi-storey car park.Popular restaurants and a cinema now feature in the location to help provide localswith a safe, secure and modern leisure facility where they can relax. Berry Systems were keen to get involved in such a project and help contribute to the development ongoing in the area. Using our expertise of the car parking industry, we designed, manufactured and installed a system that met their requirements exactly.The RHS (Rectangular Hollow Section) System we specified on the project was made bespoke and suited more to their aesthetic needs. We combined the vehicle restraint systems with handrail and mesh to provide additional pedestrian protection. Cladding rails were also created and supplied to support the exterior cladding that was specified on the project. Throughout this project, our client took advantage of our consultancy services to work together to create a solution that was compliant, safe, stylish and  satisfied both parties.

The £50million development is situated on the Doncaster iPort logistics estate, and is the hub for more than 53 supermarket stores based across South Yorkshire, the Midlands and Lincolnshire. With more than 3,900 pallets leaving the site via HGV each day 2,500 Trief GST2A kerb were installed to the perimeter of the large distribution centre building, site entrance points and security booths to protect them against accidental vehicle impacts damaging the structures. BLÜCHER recently supplied our BLÜCHER EuroPipe system to the new Terminal 2 car park at Manchester Airport. The new multi-story car park has space for 3,800 vehicles and is part of the £1 billion transformation programme at the airport. The installation was overseen by G Beverley & Son on behalf of the M&E Contractor, Crown House. Our stainless steel drainage systems are the ideal choice due to our lightweight push-fit pipes and fittings are easy to handle and install, and provide rapid discharge of rainwater and waste water.

In 2017 permission was granted for the re-devlopment of an abandoned mill in Holmfirth into a cookery school and restaurant. The design required the car park to look as natural as possible but to withstand the manoeuvring of large delivery vehicles. ABG offered a re-engineered solution showing that a porous type 3 attenuation stone over the whole car park removed the need for expensive attenuation tanks. The main car park was covered in Sudspave interlocking pavers coloured to match the gravel. Truckcell was used for the turning area and filled with the same gravel for a natural finish.

Thames Water turned to Eagle when a set of Trackless Bi-Folding Speed Gates were required. Images show the installation before and afterwards. Set on a tight deadline Eagle had to install the Bi Folding Gates without any compromise to security and achieved this whist keeping the old commercial gates operational Bi-Folding Speed Gates do not need the space that a swing gate requires to open. This leaves the full length of the driveway usable for parking vehicles and is useful where space is restricted.

Berry Systems supplied and installed Internal and external safety barriers to protect doorways, walkways, columns, racking, site and equipment at the Co-operative, Avonmouth project.The 435,780 square foot (40,485 sq m) state-of-the-art facility is conveniently located near to Junction 18 of the M5 and ideally placed to distribute goods to 482 Co-Operative stores in the Bristol, North Somerset and South Wales area. Our safety barriers have been installed extensively both inside and outside the distribution centre. The access roads are lined with Barrier Rails mounted on semi-flexible Flexi-Posts. In the vehicle waiting areas power cables have been integrated into the barrier with post extensions mounted to every other post, for the power outlets. The Flexi-Posts give greater protection if a reversing vehicle fails to stop in time, avoiding damage to the barrier, power cables and HGVs. We also installed a number of exterior bollards to protect doorways and other access points and additional barriers to protect fuel storage and other plant. Inside the distribution centre, structural columns benefit from our column protection units that flex upon impact to minimise damage. Other areas have our unique double rail system mounted on spring steel buffers to create an impenetrable but flexible  barrier from ground level to a height of 610mm.

Berry System supplied and installed vehicle safety barriers for new multi-storey car park at Dundee Leisure Centre. Our innovative Brisafe Wire Rope safety barrier has been installed at the new, 500 space East Marketgait car park in Dundee.The multi-storey car park serves the new leisure centre which is part of Dundee City Council’s multi-million pound redevelopment of the city’s waterfront area. The car park, incorporating a retail unit, is linked to the leisure centre by a unit central foyer and the complete facility boasts a competition sized swimming pool, health suite, café and flumes.Our safety barriers were specified throughout the car park including their column  mounted Brisafe perimeter barrier which meets BS EN 1991-1-1 standards. With a zero footprint in the parking bay, Brisafe allows architects to maximise the parking space available, while providing a flexible system that ‘gives’ on impact to minimise damage to vehicles and the barrier itself. It creates a visually attractive barrier that combines an independently tested safety performance with architectural flexibility to enhance the appearance of the whole structure.Whilst most of the car park perimeter was protected by Brisafe barriers, areas that did not provide convenient structural columns were protected by Berry Beam barriers that are floor mounted on RB1 Spring Steel Buffers.

Vehicle/Pedestrian safety barriers for the new 627 space, 6 storey car park at the Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.Like many hospitals, Derriford in Plymouth has to match ever-increasing numbers of patients, visitors and staff with limited parking availability. The new 627 space multi-storey car park on the North West Quadrant will go a long way towards easing the situation for the daily 8,000 footfall to the hospital. Part of a 6.6 hectare site being developed by Wharfside Regeneration for Plymouth Hospitals Trust, the new car park was designed by international architects S333 and built by Sir Robert McAlpine Limited.The eco-friendly design features green walls with climbing plants on the two lowest levels, steel latticework on the next two and timber latticework on levels 5 and 6. We recommended our RB1X Spring Steel Buffers that ‘give’ in a collision to absorb impact forces and minimise damage to the barrier, the vehicle and the car park deck that the barrier is mounted on. After an impact, the barrier returns to its original position to provide ongoing protection. Berry Beam rails were used to give a more refined  appearance than the traditional Armco ‘W’ section.A BS 6180 compliant pedestrian handrail was mounted above the barrier on post extensions of 1,100mm high and the space in between filled with anti-climb mesh to stop pedestrians from falling through, or even climbing over the barrier.

Jaguar Land Rover established a new luxury show room in Watford earlier last year to accommodate the growing business needs of the local area. The new site, located in the Colne Valley Retail Park, facilitates an 18-car showroom and external display area as well as an MOT bay and valeting facilities. With around 50 fulltime employees, frequent visitors and a vast number of high value motor vehicles, it was imperative that the site was secured with adequate perimeter security and access control to ensure the safety of site personnel and protect commercial assets.

Aldi are a supermarket chain with over 700 stores throughout the UK, many of which are located in or around city centres or other areas which have a high population density. One of the issues this creates is noise pollution, which can emanate from the stores throughout the day as a result of deliveries from heavy goods vehicles in the loading bays, where heavy machinery is often used to transport pallets of goods. As a responsible member of their community, two Aldi stores in Kent came to Jacksons looking to reduce the impact of noise coming from their property.

The New Hollies transport cafe has been serving drivers and travellers on Watling Street (A5) since 1933. The cafe has grown significantly and hundreds of HGVs visit each week creating a demand for robust, sustainable parking. Due to the high water table, permission was granted but with the restrictions to keep the water level at the pre development level. It became clear that permeable paving would meet the requirements. ABG Truckcell was used as surfacing with Terrex as a filtration textile. Truckcell is a heavy duty plastic paver able to withstand the forces exerted by multiple wheeled vehicles.

Showcasing two of the worlds most prestigious and admired car brands demands enormous attention to detail. Over a many number of years, Saint-Gobain Ecophon has created acoustic suspended ceilings within countless Jaguar Land Rover dealerships throughout the UK. The architect, SDA Design in Leeds, specifies Ecophon’s Focus Ds or Dg ceiling system for both its aesthetic and acoustic performance. The concealed grid systems help to achieve the clean, crisp style of the interior’s look and feel, reflecting both the sleek lines of the vehicles and the sophistication of the brand.

The Quartermile development is a cosmopolitan mix of luxury apartments, cafes and businesses in the heart of Edinburgh city centre. The masterplan for the new area is designed by Foster + Partners and enjoys views of some of Edinburgh’s greatest landmarks. The access to the new building (adjacent to the old Edinburgh Royal Infirmary site) is elevated from the North Meadow Walk pedestrian walkway and cycle route. The pathways and landscaped areas in front of the development needed a structural drainage solution and reinforced turf area that would be suitable for trafficking by maintenance and emergency vehicles when required.ABG’s high strength Roofdrain 60S+RX geocomposite was specified to provide sub-surface drainage across the base of the podium deck. The drainage board provides a high flow capacity void to channel water pressure to the surrounding perimeter drains. By utilising a 60mm drainage layer the need for much deeper and harder to install drainage stone layers can be minimised. The carbon footprint for the product is just 3.3 kgCO2e per m2 which is an approximate 50% saving compared to the embodied carbon of quarrying, transportation and installation of the equivalent thickness of drainage aggregates. Once installed the Roofdrain core is filled with pea gravel to provide a rigid sub-base beneath a bedding layer and resin bound gravel pathways. The drainage core features regular perforations to allow surface water to percolate and drain to the underside of the board. Adjoining rolls can be easily overlapped with the cups designed to slot  into one another. The Roofdrain was overlaid with a Terrex NW9 geotextile to prevent fines entering the drainage core. The Roofdrain can be stepped to cascade into lower sections to suit the landscaping layout. The main green area to the front of the building was cultivated using the Advanced Turf reinforced grass system. The Netlon Advanced Turf System (Netlon ATS) is a high performance, mesh-element reinforced natural grass rootzone system that provides a SuDS compliant free-draining grassed surface. It consists of a high quality, sandy soil rootzone into which thousands of playing card sized polypropylene Netlon plastic mesh elements are pre-blended. The composite mesh reinforced rootzone and selected turf are then delivered to site as a system. ATS was specified for this development to support loading by occasional MEWP vehicles such as cherry pickers, and in the event emergency vehicles need to traffic onto the grass.

From humble beginnings Newcastle Airport has grown vastly and expects 9.4m passengers annually by 2035. Increasing the capacity of the existing storage lagoons is needed to continue meet current and future airport requirements. Due to the high water table there is a risk ground water pressure would cause uplift of pond liners. ABG Pozidrain was recommended to remove any uplift, manage groundwater and allow ground gases to escape. Due to being puncture resistant it also protected the liner. The multiple functions of Pozidrain removed the need for imported stone reducing vehicles to site by 200 and increasing material savings.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park at Bretton Hall estate is the largest of its kind in Europe with growing visitor numbers year on year. As a result the site suffered from insufficient parking with the site’s overflow areas becoming unsuitable with uneven ground prone to rutting, localised flooding and loss of traction. To combat the sloping, poorly drained site ABG provided a highly efficient SuDS drainage system, employing a combination of their Geogrids, Geotextiles, and Deckdrain, all in conjunction with the free-draining surface of the Sudspave 40 permeable paving system to resolve the access and parking issues for the 150,000 vehicles that visit each year.

ASF were approached by Bradford Council to manufacture and supply the Balmoral Posts with Panels set up as a guardrail - with a vertical infill panel in the lower section and topped with a sight gap and top rail.The site had a variety of straight and curved sections with slight gradients in some areas of both.ASF manufactured the posts and panels to meet the needs of each individual part of the site, whether that be a straight run, cambered around a gentle curve or with the panels following the physical curves if needed.All posts are 100% recycled, made from used vehicle brake discsThe system meets and exceeds 1.5kN loading

Middlesborough CouncilPAS 68 Counter Terror plantersStreet furniture | Street PlantersConcrete bollards | HVMTownscape has successfully tendered to Middlesbrough Council for the supply of PAS 68 Counter Terror planters.Thirty-two Toledo PAS 68 Planters and one hundred and six PAS 68 bollards have been supplied to create strong and robust hostile vehicle mitigation around the Town Hall and Central Square area of the city.The new line of defence is not in response to any specific threat. They were the players on the stage across 18 sports, with the action broadcast to an estimated global audience of one and a half billion.For a fortnight of summer 2014, the eyes of the world were trained on Glasgow, so organisers had to deliver impeccable security to protect competitors, spectators, volunteers and dignitaries alike to preserve and enhance the city’s global image.The SolutionOrganisers awarded the prestigious contract as the Protective Perimeter Security provider to Selex ES, the Finmeccanica subsidiary, who turned to the largest supplier of perimeter fencing protection to the London 2012 Olympics.Selex ES handed almost £4 million of contracts to integrated high-security perimeter event overlay specialist Zaun to design, manufacture, install and decommission a broad vista of temporary high-security fencing systems across Glasgow 2014 sites.Together, they provided a wide range of physical security measures to secure over 20 Games venues at Glasgow 2014, including the Commonwealth Games Village for athletes and other Tier One venues such as the iconic Celtic Park, which was used for the opening ceremony, and Hampden Park, where the games officially closed.Zaun supplied several thousand metres of its MultiFence and award-winning RDS systems at heights of 3m and 2.4m, with sections fitted with Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) enhancements.Zaun also installed hundreds of vehicle and pedestrian gates and CCTV columns incorporated into the fencing.
