Secreted within the grounds of a Victorian villa these 2 new Mews properties and 3 new Townhouses replaces demolished 1980’s office facilities. A strong masonry base envelopes a timber clearstory and gables, aluminium dormers and a Zintek Mediterranean Blue zinc roof, to give a truly contemporary interpretation of a traditional mews building. The Townhouses are formed with complex twisted geometries. As with the adjacent mews, materials were selected incorporating a solid masonry base, timber cladding to the projecting cantilevered boxes, aluminium glazing systems, white render and topped with blue zinc mono-pitched roofs.

The Architect choose the Spectraplan facade as a valued engineered option for cost and speed of essence of installation against his other option of Zinc standing seam Cladding.The main roof area was installed using a 159 structural deck with an 18mm ply board mech fixed to it and Spectraplan TPE fully adhered onto insulation and a self adhesive vapour barrier.

After an exceptionally harsh winter, Garland were approached by the university’s Estates Manager to find a solution to a leaking roof section causing disruption to lectures. A common issue we see with many types of standing seam metal roofing systems is water ingress through capillary action. This is typically caused by poor installation of the system and damage due to inadequate access for on-site maintenance. As the standing seam system in question was not fully supported, the panels were free to deflect under foot traffic which led to gaps allowing for water to enter the building

Neaco specified at King Abdulaziz International Airport

Neaco’s roof walkway system has been installed at world's largest single standing seam roofing project at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The $100 million development includes the airport’s new terminal building, railway station, air traffic control centre and the main fire and rescue facility, requiring a combination of straight, tapered and curved roofs with high acoustic and thermal performance specifications. The development involved the construction of 350,000 square metres of Kalzip standing seam roofing - the largest single Kalzip project ever undertaken – which includes Neaco’s aluminium open grille walkways and associated handrails.

NedZink NOVA - Bolton College STEM Centre

Bolton College has opened the doors of a brand new state-of-the-art STEM Centre to provide support for learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The STEM Centre features a futuristic angled façade to Deane Road, which forms a distinctive corner to the campus. This feature is articulated through the use of angled standing seam zinc cladding completed in Nedzink NOVA.

Continuing BriggsAmasco’s increasing Public Health portfolio here we see an inverted holt melt roof, insulation and ballast with slab walkways to the perimeters on the prestigous Derby City Hospital project carried out for Skanska. The Hot Melt area was approximately 7550m2. The project also included 5500m2 of Kalzip standing seam and 2000m2 of Sarnafil single ply roofing.

The Burrell Collection

The Burrell Collection’s renaissance is an ambitious refurbishment which will allow visitors to explore all three floors in the building, set out as galleries, visible stores and special exhibition spaces. Arup was tasked to improve and reinstate the entire envelope of the building. The goal for the failing metal standing seam roof was to replace it with a new waterproofing system incorporating falls to provide effective drainage and to incorporate sustainable technology in the form of solar PV.

The 6,000 seat stadium incorporated 13,000 sqm of Kalzip Standing Seam roof, eight 100m long roof lights, 420lm of bullnose to the perimeter and 22 movement joints. The Velodrome is the most sustainable venue on the Olympic Park in terms of design and construction. Meeting the architect’s vision to create a bullnose perimeter that flowed and wrapped over the roof , a support system was designed to enable the ‘build’ tolerances to be overcome in all directions avoiding having visible fixings ensured the smooth, curved appearance was maximised

The building’s high quality design and excellent build standard by NSJ Contractors, which resulted in it making the shortlist of the East Midlands RIBA Regional Awards 2020, blends key aspects of the local vernacular with modern design and material choices, including a zinc standing seam roof that extends to form the outward-facing façade.

The Berkeley Groups' stunning London apartments required the installation of wetroom & waterproofing solutions into 188 wetrooms, suitable for a screeded floor construction. Linear Wall Drains with Stone-Infill Grills were specified into the apartments and penthouses. A high build latex system incorporating insulation boards and HBL-50 levelling compound was installed to the desired depth of 22mm from finished screed level, before the installation of Linear Screed Decs. Linear wall Drains & Stone Infill Grills of varying lengths were installed against the shower walls prior to waterproofing with RIW Tilesafe on the floors and RIW FWM on the walls.

Stand-off glass balustrade - Conference venue UK

Looking as though it were poised to take flight, the Blackburn Wing is a multi-award-winning venue. Glass balustrades on the balconies and runways – created by Q-railing – together with floor-to-ceiling curtain walls allow for stunning unobstructed views of the surrounding woodland. In total, 140 metres of stand-off balustrade were installed, with Easy Glass MOD 0763 glass adapters and stainless steel cap rails.

Prior Weston Primary School - Free Standing Canopy

Prior Weston Primary, located in the City of London, required a large south facing free standing canopy that would create solar energy for their school whilst also protecting their pupils from the elements. David Everett, the school’s Business Manager contacted Able Canopies for a free site survey and quotation as he had seen a Shade Sail array that we had installed at Richard Cloudesley Special School which is situated on the same site as Prior Weston Primary School.

An architect designed stand-alone cycle hub for new railway station

Lang+Fulton

A stand-alone cycle hub with two tier parking for 120 bicycles now provides high-quality, safe and secure bike storage at Dundee’s new railway station. The vison was for a structure that wasn’t a ‘box shaped’. The solution incorporated a rear section of Lang+Fulton’s Italia-80 louvred panels. The louvers were also introduced at the top and around the sides of the glazing allowing a good air flow.The panels were hot-dip galvanised and polyester powder coated to provide a smart, long-lasting finish in a location with close proximity to the sea.

We worked firstly with The Manser Practice to develop a floor that was within budget and also Bryden Wood Architects on the specification and subfloors. Henry Construction are the main contractors and we are now working with them to ensure a successful fit out and wood floor installation. Situated in a location close to High Street, Stratford and Three Mills Island, Strand East will feature a variety of new homes and workspaces. Forming a triangle south of High Street, The Strand East will be a landmark development for an industrial heritage.

Rebuilding confidence in fire rated doorsets needs a focus on every element of its construction, with one of the most critical elements being the intumescent seal. Intumescent seals have now been used in fire rated doorsets for four decades. They help to stop the spread of fire and smoke, with the most common types in the UK being manufactured from compounds of sodium silicate or intercalated graphite.

Spectacular design and innovative technology come together to create the ultimate in relaxation and luxury. Helo were invited to create a bespoke steam suite with Turkish Room and relaxation area joined by two shower towers. An open effect between rooms was achieved with a minimal glass partition. Robin Moore Ede’s intriguing mix of bespoke mosaic sea frieze and honed marble seating with subtle down lighting to the floor created a steam room which offers the ultimate in comfort and visual impact!
