Metal roof coating and liquid gutter liner

The metal roof was first prepared using high powered jet washing equipment, to remove loose and flaking materials.
Liquasil corrosion primer was applied to the corroded cut edges and the entire roof was sprayed with a single coat of Metalseal 20.
The metal box gutter was heavily corroded.
The loose and flaking material was removed and Liquasil’s Corrosion Primer was applied all along the gutter.
The joints in the gutter were sealed with Liquasil’s unique Non-Sag Sealer and then the entire gutter was coated with Liquasil One to provide a seamless gutter finish.

Harleyford Court is a residential building which sits within the London Borough of Lambeth’s Vauxhall Conservation Area.
Clement worked closely with Lambeth Planning Authority to agree precise details on the replica replacement steel windows for this red brick building.
Clement’s bespoke EB16 steel window range was chosen to replace the existing single glazed fenestration. Despite being fitted with slim 16mm glass units, they benefit from being krypton filled and Part L compliant, offering improved thermal efficiency over that of the original windows.

The design brief for Suffolk St James’s focused on a comprehensive refurbishment to create CAT-A offices on the 1st to 4th floors, along with a striking reception on the ground floor. The lower ground space provides studio/gym, bike store, kitchen and a further CAT-A office. There is a large roof terrace on the 5th floor.The challenge on this project was to replace the existing single 10-person lift and create step-free access to all five floors, including the 2,000 sq ft roof terrace and lower ground floor level.

The Big Chill, a bar in King’s Cross, was creating a public roof terrace on an existing structure.
The deck was complicated with many changes of level and multiple objects present. A single ply membrane was installed.
Paving and decking was required. Adjustable pedestals were laid directly onto the surface and their heights altered so that the upper surface of the 50mm paving slabs and the 125mm decking frame would be level.
Nothing penetrated the membrane and the weight tolerance of the ASP and TD pedestals meant even very heavy traffic on a public bar was accommodated.

A good example of the before and after effects of laying a sedum roof garden and accompanying deck and paved area onto a small domestic roof terrace.
All these products are designed to sit on top of the waterproof membrane (in this case single ply) there was no issue of damage to the roof.
The support pads lifted the decking off the roof, eliminating the risk of the timber piercing the membrane, and drainage was maintained through the roof surface since the green roof system has a cavity beneath its own reservoir and drainage layer to allow water run-off.

In order to keep the students safe at the new site and mitigate the risk of trespassing and vandalism, perimeter fencing and gates were required to secure the grounds, which next to a busy main road also presented the danger of oncoming traffic.
We supplied and installed 61 metres of 2 metre high vertical bar Sentry® fencing around the perimeter of the school site. Plus four manual single leaf pedestrian gates to match the fencing, two with push pads to stop unauthorised access from the outside.

The Hilton Garden Inn is a global brand facet of the Hilton Worldwide group, with over 780 locations across the world. In the hotel’s lobby area, LOFT20 single glazed partitioning was installed, reaching 3500mm high. The designs were made to allow for vertical and horizontal polyester powder coated aluminium trims, set at different heights, to compliment the style of the hotel.
IsoTec doors were used, reaching 3000mm in height, and the doors included LOFT style aluminium trims, bonded to both sides of the doors, to provide a uniform style throughout.

The number of Davit Arms required for a project should not sound like the quintessential British question of "one lump or two" for your cup of tea.It should depend on the specific project parameters but it is a question we are often asked, even if the employer's requirements or access strategy specifically identify a quantity.There are however a few definitive requirements. If the system is designed for single users (due to roof/building structural load limitations for instance), then two Davits must be provided to facilitate safe rescue. Equally, although Davits are component form and portable, the units are not light to carry between buildings, might be too large for service lifts and no one even wants to think about the stairs - the buildings being cleaned by rope access for a reason!Additionally, the duty holder and building owner should consider cleaning times and crew efficiency. Responsible IRATA contractors operate in a team of three, with one level 3 supervisor and two operatives. With a single davit, two of the team are effectively non-productive.Finally, it can be that multiple outreach davits are required. The projection requirements can vary depending on rooftop socket locations, parapet sizes, and façade elements. The available budget on this project did not allow for lifting or removing the plant, stripping the existing waterproofing system, and replacing with new. ASA Landscape Architects were appointed by the UKAEA to design a new vibrant landscape to replace the tired patch of grass in a quadrangle within the Culham Science Centre. The brief was to design a place that would be used as a meeting area for lunch and other social events, supporting the restaurant situated within the building. The focus is on the tenant’s mental well-being by encouraging rich social experiences.Katie Dixon from ASA Landscape Architects explains: “We wanted to create an exciting landscape and have based our concept on the idea of the atom and its energy and motion. By dividing the landscape into smaller areas with the use of paths, avenues of trees, linear planting beds with grasses and Corten steel screens, we wanted to encourage more intimate spaces for smaller group gatherings and meetings. This was further enhanced by including a range of outdoor furniture by mmcité throughout the site to facilitate meeting areas,” she ends.“It was an inspiring project,” Jana Tyrer from mmcité comments on the cooperation, “the architects together with the client have decided to use grey HPL and bicolour orange and grey powder coating of steel construction to match the company colours of UKAEA.”Playful yet very comfortable and calming environment, Culham’s quadrangle makes a perfect example of the new approach to public space, and its set up.

After a few options were presented the client chose our FR2 mailbox. The FR2 mailbox is horizontal in front/ out front 2-hour fire-rated (integrity only) mailbox.Our 2-hour fire-rated mailbox range is commonly used within an evacuation route as they are capable of holding backfire or containing a fire for at least 2 hours, satisfying building and fire regulations.The mailboxes we’re powder coated in special colour – MATT Pearl Gold (RAL 1036) giving the mailboxes a stunning high-end aesthetic finish whilst being practical and completely secure. Multiple keys were also supplied, and doors were engraved for easy identification

Dynamic interior spaces created for flagship care homeIssue Quantum Care were launching their flagship care home, Mantles Court, and wanted an interior design that created a warm, welcoming and comfortable space. Quantum Care asked WHAT IF? Designs to create the interior spaces with a non-clinical feel, making the state of the art, 78-bed care facility feel like a home-from-home for residents. Approach WHAT IF? Designs looked at the flow of resident living spaces and the needs for each area. Communal spaces including lounges, dining and kitchen areas required floors that were easy to clean, looked fantastic and provided safety from slips. For the ensuite bathrooms, a softer, neutral coloured floor with slip resistance for both staff and residents was needed, while bedrooms called for a more homely, domestic feel, with comfort under foot as a priority. Solution Altro Wood was chosen for the dining room, bedrooms and the hair salon for its natural, homely, good looks. Altro Aquarius and Altro Pisces, with their wide colour palette and lifetime sustained slip resistance, were selected for the ensuite bathrooms, providing safety for shoe and barefoot users. And in the communal areas, Altro Ensemble was chosen for its flexibility and design choices as well as its noise reduction and comfort underfoot.

Polar’s single glazed minimalist form is designed with the minimum of components, thus facilitated speed of erection without compromising structural stability and rigidity. The patented bubble joint ensured a virtually frameless system with no vertical posts between modules, corners or three-way junctions.

Salcombe residence stands up to coastal conditions featuring Reynaers aluminium door and window systems

The goal for this residential dwelling in Salcombe was to create a completely unique space, nestled into the cliff-side to provide a feeling of comfort and seclusion, while maximising the views over the estuary. To achieve this, ten Reynaers aluminium lift-and-slide doors, alongside aluminium windows and single-entrance doors were installed. The aluminium frames provide the strength and stability required for large expanses of glazing, while delivering required pascal ratings to resolutely stand up to enduring winds and harsh coastal conditions. Pre-anodized paint adds further durability to protect the property from the elements.

The demand for an energy-efficient hot water distribution system was met by a single-pipe system with 850m of RAYCHEM HWAT-R self-regulating heating cables, managed by nine RAYCHEM HWAT-ECO smart controllers that interface seamlessly with the BMS. Eliminating the need for the secondary pipework of a conventional recirculation system saved space and achieved cost savings of between five and ten percent in material and installation time. Pipe freeze protection was also provided by RAYCHEM WinterGard self-regulating cables, supported by an AT-TS-13 surface-sensing electronic thermostat.

Over 1,200m² of Protan SE 1.2mm PVC single-ply membrane was installed in the Protan Vacuum roof system at Butlins Splashworld, Skegness.
The roof system required no mechanical restraint or adhesives (except for around the roof perimeter and penetrations), as it relies upon the wind to keep the membrane in place with the help of Protan vacuum vents installed at locations designed by Protan's Technical Services Department.

The cast iron flyscreen air brick has the advantage of protecting the property from insect and rodent ingress but can help stop flooding with this innovative and simple barrier.
The flood screen is a cork gasket for our single and double flyscreen air bricks and is simply inserted in the air brick when flooding is likely or imminent in place of the fly mesh. Once the danger has passed the copper fly mesh is replaced and the cork flood screen stored away safely until require again.

We worked with UBS facilities and Make Architects as the design consultants to create the perfect washroom. Not a single aspect was overlooked – we even changed the design of our soap dispensers and taps to suit the client’s needs.
Our numerous site visits paid off and the client was delighted, particularly because our designs reduced carbon emissions by 65%.
MaxiBeam Raft Feature Ceiling in Stunning Offices

Vtec was specified to provide feature ceiling beams using our MaxiBeam raft above an informal seating area in the large social space. Finished in a special Oak laminate, the raft’s interesting geometry follows the shape of the building and draws the eye.
No two beams are the same; each was individually shaped and sized to perfectly fit the perimeter. Our Technical Team provided detailed set out dimensions to ensure correct positioning of the MaxiBeams for smooth installation, with the outcome that every single one of the feature ceiling beams is fully removable using our Click-Fix method.

To withstand the South coast’s often extreme wind and rain, while matching the luxury aesthetic of the build a robust but aesthic solution was needed.

When Mersey Care upgraded their existing leaf-and-a half bedroom door arrangements, they wanted to improve the anti-barricade access and robustness of their doors – while still having a clear opening width of 1000mm.
They found the leaf-and-a-half arrangement wasn’t ideal – with a bulky meeting stile and additional exposed metalwork.
To address this, we proposed an extra-wide single leaf Symphony doorset. Aided by market-leading fire evidence, the leaf is 1100mm providing a clear opening of 1050mm – more than enough space for a service user and two members of staff.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019, the iconic Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth, needed a new roof to protect the building. With the previous roof membrane nearing 30 years old the centre needed a long-term and robust roofing solution.
The product of choice was the mechanically fixed Sarnafil S327-15 EL Light Grey as it is more than able to cope with all the extremes of the Scottish weather and has been certified by the BBA to last in excess of 40 years. The durability of the single ply material ensured a long-lasting solution for the project.

Designed by architect Rafael Viñoly and costing over £200 million, 20 Fenchurch Street is a 34-storey commercial skyscraper in London, known as the ‘Walkie Talkie’ building due to its top-heavy form. It is designed to have a BREEAM excellence rating. Sarnafil G410-12EL single ply provided the perfect solution to this design criteria, thanks to its excellent flexibility and weldabilty, while offering outstanding resistance to weathering, including permanent UV irradiation.

In a complex new build roofing project that was deemed almost impossible, Contour Roofing stepped up to the challenge with a Sika Sarnafil membrane. With truly stunning results, the project impressed the judges of the prestigious NFRC UK Roofing Awards, winning the Single Ply category.
In partnership with Sika Sarnafil, Contour quickly presented a new bespoke specification; an adhered system using Sarnafil G410-15ELF Lead Grey with
a polyester fleece backing as the main roof sheet for a flawless result and Sarnafil G410-15EL Lead Grey for all the detail work flashings.

The existing factory finish to this metal roof was degraded and failing in multiple places.
The roof was cleaned and all existing GRP roof lights were replaced.
Cut edge corrosion & spot rust was treated using Liquasil corrosion primer.
An initial coat of Metalseal 20 was roller applied to all corrosion treated areas, followed by a single coat of Metalseal 20, spray applied to the entire roof area.
The end result looks like a new roof and will easily provide 20 years protective, water resistant finish to this once poor roof.

ASF worked closely with the architect to develop a 'whole material solution' for what started as an open spec project. The brief was to produce a single material and very high quality street furniture package that complimented but did not dominate the market square. It was decided that LG2 Aluminium Bronze would be used. In this material ASF produced bespoke cycle stands, feature paving strips, a feature paving tree surround and bollards as well as step units to properties surrounding the square. Feature products were all sand cast and above ground externals machine engineered.
