We were contacted by a customer in Bucharest trying to source our Ipe Timber Tiles. He was concerned about durability as Romania has extremes of hot and cold, and torrential rainfall. We reassured him that even with a minimum gap drainage would be sufficient and the suspended tiles system would ensure longevity. He selected the Ipe timber tiles mounted onto fixed height 14mm Plastic Pad. The Koster TPO Single Ply membrane was selected to waterproof the flat roof on this new build development. The design called for a warm roof system installed over a timber deck followed by a sedum blanket (on protection membrane).Koster TPO 2mm Fleeceback membrane was used as it is highly resistant against mechanical damage, fully weldable so no weaknesses and it will not contaminate any of the planting such as a PVC membrane would.The Slate Grey RAL 7015 colour was selected to compliment the Zinc cladding.

The proprietors of this domestic property in Harrogate added a large extension with a total roof area of 150m2. The client wanted the new roof sections to complement the slate work and aesthetics of the original building whilst adding a contemporary and stylish look to the extension.Originally considering a zinc sheeted roofing system, the client explored alternative materials that could achieve the same visual impact but at lower cost. After discussions with Cure Roofing Ltd, a Polyroof simulated metal finish was proposed as a roofing solution that would meet all the client’s requirements.Not only do Polyroof’s range of liquids offer cost savings over traditional metals, but they are also lighter in weight, totally seamless and can be pigmented to any RAL colour. Having no scrap value, the client also had the added peace of mind that the roof would not be a target for theft.A timber warm roof was constructed which incorporated 120mm PIR insulation to achieve a U-Value of 0.18 W/m2K in compliance with building regulations. An OSB3 TG4 deck was fitted above the insulation and Polyroof pre-formed GRP standing seam trims were fixed at 600mm centres into the deck. Next, the first coat of the Protec waterproofing system was applied over the whole roof area and encapsulating the standing seam trims. The roof was finished with a second coat of Protec pigmented to RAL 7016 providing an anthracite grey colour to the whole roof, accurately simulating the appearance of zinc roof sheets.The workmanship by Polyroof approved contractor Cure Roofing was second to none and the quality of the finish left the client delighted with their new roof. NORclad supplied almost 1000m2 of the PEFC certified Thermowood for this project back in 2021, a new purpose-built £8m GP surgery in Crediton.Offering residents a much wider range of services than they were able to receive in the town and enables it to cope with a growing population.The official ribbon-cutting opening ceremony at Redlands Primary Care, located on Joseph Locke Way took place in October ’21.A number of areas of the project required the timber to meet EuroClass B, NORclad are able to offer this as a service to the timber, under factory controlled conditions. This allows the timber to be used as soon as it arrives on site.

CREATING DEFINED ZONES IN OPEN PLAN OFFICE WITH MAXIBEAM AND SUPASLAT >> An office project in an outstanding building in a prime location overlooking London’s Oxford Street deserves a premium interior! This was achieved by the cleverly designed open-plan layout. The design includes a mix of social, collaborative, private and meeting spaces, each with its own distinct feel. Our Timber Slatted Ceilings System were chosen as the ideal solutions for the boardroom and large general meeting space.

Siberian Larch was supplied for this project in four different half lap profiles, utilising standard widths of timber to retain the value from the timber, and reduce waste – whilst the different widths board create an interesting image over the vast areas of timber cladding. NORclad Grade B was supplied, offering a fair spread of knots, along with the distinctive grain of the species which can be seen across the images.

The waterproofing to a large residential flatted development in London was carried out using the Koster TPO membrane.This warm roof design incorporated the Koster TPO Fleecebacked membrane mechanically fixed through PIR insulation, Koster Vapour Barrier and into the timber substructure as per the wind load calculation.An interesting project with many challenges that were all individually designed by the Koster technical team in collaboration with the project architects.The final roof incorporates hard standing areas, sedum and green roof sections, a solar panel farm and decorative stones.A beautifully deigned and usable area providing residents an amazing view over London.

This self-build project was looking to improve the quality of the 1st floor construction, eliminate any danger of floor creaking that is common to timber floors and include an efficient underfloor heating solution.Underfloor heating work at its most efficient when it is installed within a screed, this is the way ground floor system are installed and being able to replicate this pipes in screed arrangement upstairs makes sense for the performance of the complete system.Also, by including some stiffened mass to the upper floors, the feel of the floor is replicated from the ground floor and also provides some very useful solar thermal buffering to keep summer temperatures under control in a building technique that otherwise has very little mass to to achieve this, especially on the upper levels.A timber frame structure requires the floor to provide racking to prevent the building from twisting. Meaning the floor needs to be secured to the joists below so the floor can stop twisting. There are 2 ways of installing Lewis Deck in timber frame structures. Firstly is to fix the Lewis Deck down or, alternatively, fix a timber deck on top of the timber joists and the Lewis is then laid loose on top of the timber with the resilient acoustic strips in between , thus, further enhancing the acoustic performance of the floor.

The existing waterproofing had failed due to a previous poor installation, the result of which saturated the insulation below the exterior roofing. New high performance solutions were specified that included a range of IKO roofing waterproofing systems to protect both the flat and pitched roofing areas of the building. IKOslate, a robust and durable tile was specified for the pitched roof due to vandalism and the fragility of the current system, whereas a tapered scheme was required for the flat roofing - IKO Ultra Prevent alongside a cold applied liquid solution (IKO Polimar) for the more intricate details.

Vtec's SupaSlat and Supaline panels were key design elements in this high specification, luxury residential development in London. The foyer area showcases BESPOKE TIMBER BATTEN WALLS and a unique FEATURE STAIRCASE, whilst the post room is crowned with an impressive SUPASLAT RAFT. Vtec were specified due to the intricate detailing, integrations, complex interfaces and technical nature of this residential project. We supported the designer, an industry-leading international architect and contractor, throughout the design stage and development process through to installation, overcoming some particularly challenging programme requirements.

This community engagement project for YMCA in Milton Keynes featured Wallbarn M-Tray on a roof space which acted as a leisure and social area for the students and residents of the YMCA campus in Milton Keynes. It also featured in the training and development of young people with learning difficulties and with challenging upbringings to learn about construction and green roofing, being able to gain NVQ qualification and further certification for installing green roofs.The green roof will be moved in its entirety to a new premises in early 2022 where the benefits of the M-Tray system are fully demonstrated. Rather than have to dig up tonnes of loose aggregate, established sedum and wildflower planting and sheet drainage materials; each module can be simply lifted up and transported via pallets to the its new home the other side of Milton Keynes at the new YMCA building. As this new premises will house many of the young people using YMCA services, this new green roof becomes their green roof to enjoy.

ABODO Laminated Timber Cladding coated with ABODO Ebony Oil was chosen on this project. Being Thermally modified the Abodo product was supplied in much wider 180mm boards – the thermal modification process not only offers great stability, but also a great species to coat. The FSC Certified ABODO Cladding range offers a renewable alternative to some of the more traditional Larch or Cedar cladding that the construction market are used to.

Wood finish powder coating to realise vision of a timber facade Overview A brand-new Skills and Innovation Centre has been added to the Earl Street/Broad Street elevation of the South Staffordshire College’s campus, a £28million project. This 7,500 sq metre, 3 storey building will house leading-edge construction, engineering and hybrid vehicle technology workshops, along with innovatively designed social spaces. The building takes pride of place on the college’s town centre site and a suitably striking external envelope has been planned. The architects’ envisaged a facade of long vertical fins giving the appearance of timber. This would also screen a roof-top substation from view. The Project Maple Sunscreening won the contract to supply the extensive vertical fin façade and proposed using lightweight aluminium instead of timber to achieve the of span required. This project is a perfect example of one of the key advantages of PWF on aluminium, over wood, namely the ability to accomplish very long spans with structural integrity. Powdertech Wood Finish (PWF ™) was selected as the most appropriate powder coating since it is formulated to match the natural variations in colour, grain density and grain pattern of wood. Importantly, PWF meets fire reaction classification A2-s1, d0. The client selected the preferred shade from our collection and the aluminium extrusions began to arrive at our plant. We coated 4000 metres of aluminium, comprising mainly rectangular sections of extruded aluminium, of sizes 200mm and 100mm x 50mm. This project involved the construction of a Data Centre just outside Dublin, with a focus on incorporating a green roof. MOY collaborated with the client, their design team, the main contractor, and the roofing installer to execute the roof installation for an extensive green roof. The green roof utilized MOY's Paraflex FM Global approved Warm Roof System, featuring Paratherm T 120mm insulation board and an anti-root cap sheet. The final touch included the installation of a sedum blanket grown in Ireland, containing native Irish sedum species registered in the national biodiversity database, creating a durable and vibrant living roof.

In densely populated urban areas of the cities, where the number of floors in housing is sometimes limited and private gardens are rare, a rooftop terrace or patio is becoming a popular design choice. However, many residential buildings with rooftop gardens don’t see much daylight and careful consideration is required to determine an access point to the roof terrace. For such rooftop projects, a new dimension of roof access is offered by the LAMILUX Flat Roof Access Hatch Comfort range, designed to give a generous daylight intake in attic apartments alongside convenient access to the roof terrace creating an air of grace and beauty both internally and externally. The LAMILUX Flat Roof Access Hatch Comfort range now introduces its fourth product into the family, giving more choice and flexibility when creating a luxurious living space with an exclusive ambience. Project: Steiner Academy, Frome Completed on Site: 2014 Timber Cladding: Welsh Larch This project saw untreated Welsh Larch used in 2 of our standard profiles. All the Horizontal Cladding installed on the project was our Double Chamfer/ Rhombus profile, NWCC1. The Vertical Cladding being supplied in the form of our T&G NWC2 board. Both of these profiles are machined from an Ex 25 x 150mm section size, to the grading criteria of Western Larch as specified by the Architect at Aedas/AHR. Over time this timber will weather to the silver/ grey that can be expected of from Larch.

No timber was allowed as part of the new refurb to conform to FM Global (Airbus Insurers) regarding system fire rating. IKO recommended an overlay on the existing deck, which complied with all the latest British Standards and Regulations. IKO Mach One System was chosen as it provided a flame-free System. Where detailing was difficult IKO Polimar EC/UV System was used. The roof refurbishment also included the installation of smoke vents, associated smoke control panels and accessories.

As a project local to Vincent Timber here in Birmingham, this was quite an exciting one for us. Contractors Design and Build worked alongside architects Piper Whitlock on behalf of Harvest on this stunning, 30-acre regeneration project, which was formerly an industrial site.The project is a joint Sainsbury's and Landsec venture which features 250,000 sq. ft. of retail and leisure buildings. As you may imagine, the large onsite Sainsbury's, erected upon stilts, is an impressive feature building.“It was very exciting working on this large-scale project, especially with the unique solar shading we created. All of which are fronted with aesthetically pleasing solar shading created using our Sivalbp timber.Design and aesthetic have been a huge focus of this project, combining many wonderful materials and features while heavily incorporating the Worcester and Birmingham canal to create a unique experience that's so much more than shopping. Whilst there is parking for 860 cars onsite, the canal side square connects the site to the centre of Selly Oak, providing easy access for pedestrians and cyclists too. The National Assembly Building for Wales is one of the most recognisable buildings in the UK and a landmark project in the use of timber ceiling systems by BCL. The building has gained worldwide recognition, culminating in the project being shortlisted for The Stirling Prize in 2006. BCL’s team designed a panel layout that allowed the complete ceiling, totalling over 3,000 sqm, to be created using only 35 different panel shapes, 99% of which could be flat packed and curved on site, helping to keep logistical costs to a minimum and maximise the speed of installation.

UWE Bower Ashton, Completed Summer 2017. Timber Cladding: Untreated Siberian Larch was supplied for this project, this will weather down to a silver grey to blend in to its surroundings, and contrast the other materials on the building. NORclad Grade B was supplied, offering a fair spread of knots, along with the distinctive grain of the species. Profiles: Horizontal cladding was a bespoke chamfered profile (Ex 25 x 100mm) Vertical timbers on the building are in a number of dimensions, Ex 25 x 100, Ex 50 x 50mm, and Ex 50 x 75mm.

Lomax + Wood supplied and fitted their UK designed and tested windows for a large development in leafy Essex. These made-to-order timber casement windows and doors were supplied to seven plots of luxury executive five-bedroom detached houses.

Georgina and Matt were undertaking a refurbishment to their family home in Surrey, including a new annexe, when they approached us about our range of timber windows and doors.The age of the original building dated back to the 16th century, with both Regency and Edwardian additions, and so finding timber windows that helped to retain and enhance the original character of the property was a priority.Spring Sash windows from the Conservation Range were recommended for most of the home, featuring concealed pre-tensioned balances. This offered Georgina classic period styling but also ensured the house benefitted from the high performance offered by a modern double-glazed window.Conservation Range Casement windows were used for the rest of the property, alongside Spring Sash products offering traditional sightlines - ideal for period properties.Georgina also wanted to ensure that the new outbuildings retained a traditional look, so we created a bespoke ‘sunrise’ feature window to give it interest and kept the styling in line with the rest of the renovation.Antique brass ironmongery and a ‘Wimbourne White’ paint finish, complements the classic look throughout.Georgina explains;“When I approached Mumford & Wood, I told them I felt a ‘Jane Austen’ period feel would fit well with the main era of the house. This asbestos cement roof was heavily contaminated with moss and lichen, following many years of neglect. Liquasil's asbestos roof coating, Asbestoseal was specified because it is the only such coating with BBA Approval for asbestos roofs. Also, the completed project came with a 10 year Latent Defects Insurance Guarantee. From project conception to completion, our expertise lies in creating high-performance roofing systems that offer both durability and aesthetic appeal.This case study highlights our collaboration with Woodholm, a picturesque property located in Southerness, constrained by the Dumfries & Galloway Council Planning’s “room in the roof” design.The SolutionWoodholm’s owners were determined to create a home that would evolve organically while adhering to the council’s planning regulations. To achieve their vision, they enlisted the services of David Lamb Architectural Services to submit a Planning Application on their behalf, seeking approval for a modification from an existing apex roof design to a curved roof. After going through the rigorous process, the application successfully obtained full Planning Committee approval on 14 February 2017.To realise their desired construction, Woodholm’s owners had a preference for using wood and oak, aiming to incorporate these elements into the design. To accomplish this, they collaborated with Carpenter Oak Woodland, a renowned timber construction company known for their expertise in oak framed structures. The company skillfully designed an oak framed structure that perfectly met the owners’ requirements. By mid-November 2017, Woodholm had a stunning and aesthetically pleasing frame in place.However, finding an ideal roofing solution proved to be a challenging task for Woodholm. Initially considering a zinc roof, they encountered obstacles due to the prohibitive costs and the challenges posed by their maritime environment, as Woodholm is located directly on the shores of the Solway Firth. It was at this point that David Lamb’s initial positive impression of a roofing product caught their attention. Woodholm’s owners approached Polyroof’s simulated metal finishes with their needs and were introduced to the Polyroof technical team. The team guided them through the necessary technical specifications to meet the Scottish Building Warrant for a Warm Roof, ensuring compliance with the required standards.Fortuitously, Woodholm’s owners discovered that Polyroof would be exhibiting at the “Homebuilding & Renovating Show” from 21-22 October 2017. At the event, they had the opportunity to meet the Polyroof team as well as Contractor, Kenny Scott of LK Roofing, Lochmaben. The Woodholm team was highly impressed and reassured by the collective experience, knowledge, and technical expertise demonstrated by Polyroof and LK Roofing. Equally important, they appreciated their ability to attentively listen to and understand their concerns.Following the show, a site meeting was promptly arranged with LK Roofing, allowing all parties to discuss the project in detail. As a result, a comprehensive and competitive quotation was provided, falling comfortably within Woodholm’s budgetary requirements.By early December 2017, Woodholm’s joiner had installed the sub-decking, which served as the foundation for the roofing system. LK Roofing then expertly applied the Alutrix membrane, a high-quality waterproofing layer, providing Woodholm with a watertight working cover.Thanks to our collaborative efforts with Woodholm, the project achieved a seamless integration of their desired curved roof design, wood and oak elements, and our advanced liquid roofing system. ‘The STEAMhouse building’, launched by Birmingham University is the winner of the Victorian Society’s Birmingham and West Midlands Conservation Award, in recognition of outstanding restoration.The STEAMhouse building dates back to 1899 and was seriously damaged by fire in 2007. Previously used as a manufacturer for the Eccles Rubber & Cycle Company this Grade A listed building undertook a £70m transformation to become the creative hub it is today. The space now supports businesses, academics, hosting companies and start-up businesses, supporting enterprise and industry. The Victorian Society was so impressed with the transformation of this historic building that it has been presented with the 'Birmingham and West Midlands Conservation Award 2023', in recognition of outstanding restoration.Mumford & Wood supported this transformation by designing and manufacturing 45 bespoke timber windows and door, tailored to fit the unique openings found on the façade of the building.Matthew Blaylock, Commercial Director, Mumford & Wood states:“We enjoy the challenges that listed buildings bring, and so with strict planning requirements in place, we understood the importance of replicating the detail of the original windows but offering the performance of a modern day product.
