POSIglaze side-fixed black Juliet Balcony

POSIglaze side-fixed black Juliet Balcony

Pure Vista Ltd

Black POSIglaze Side-fix channel installed as Juliet balcony. What is a Juliet Balcony? A glass Juliet balcony (also known as a French balcony) is a type of glass balustrade that is fitted to a first floor window, directly outside a set of inward-opening French doors, as a safety feature. A Juliet balcony creates a feeling of space within the room, as well as allowing more light and fresh air into the room than could be achieved with a regular window. All within a secure and stylish translucent framework. This beautiful installation by Terry Lisgo and his G&T Design & Build Team, features two Juliet balconies on one property in Cheshire March 2022. The home owner didn’t want any handrails blocking their view, so 17.5mm toughened laminated glass has been used as this eliminates the need for the extra safety measure. Toughened laminated glass has a layer between the glass sheets which adds strength, removing the need for a handrail. To pass building regulations, the glass must be 1100mm high across these Juliet balconies. If you’ve ever been involved in a building project, you’ll know that elements must be signed off before the next building phase can begin. The black Juliet Balconies look stunning with the matching windows and French doors and have fulfilled the customer brief perfectly. POSIglaze side-fix balustrade channel is able to hold glass thickness between 12mm and 21.5mm. and is suitable for many projects and balcony styles. The cladding is the black element used to make the channel look black, simply clipped on to the channel it transforms the look from silver to black balustrade. You might be wondering why people like Juliet balconies so much when you can’t actually stand on them! Well they can actually add value to your home, they increase natural light into your room and also improve the air flow. If you love the feeling of bringing the outdoors in, then these are ideal for you as they increase your view in a safe and stylish way.  Frameless glass balustrades used for Juliet Balconies are low maintenance and cheaper than the conventional balcony design. If you are interested in having a Juliet balcony please contact our helpful technical team and they will provide guidance on how to get started, chat about your balustrade ideas and we can also let you know about installers local to you.

The congregation at Grade II Listed St Patricks Church in Bolton, can worship without interruptions from the neighbouring bus interchange, with the installation of acoustic secondary glazing. 4 large gothic arched stained glass clerestory windows were treated with internal glazed units, stopping the ingress of the sound of stationary busses which can create 70-80dB. However the tricky window was the large chancery window overlooking the altar as 4.3m (h) x 3m (w). When now inside the church, the congregation would never know there is a bus interchange just outside; the acoustic secondary glazing treatment has worked miracles.

Keim Mineral Paints Ltd

You’ve likely seen the work of Charlie Davis amongst the pages of your favourite home renovation magazines. A Sussex-based Freelance Stylist specialising in interiors, Charlie has more recently turned her attention to the renovation of a double-fronted Victorian property. This outstanding example of 19th Century architecture will become a Location House, which with Charlie’s creative vision will be available for hire for photo shoots, tv, film and events. The spare room of the house was to become the perfect photography backdrop, reminiscent of perfectly imperfect Venetian plaster. The walls and cornicing would be decorated to replicate a historic limewash finish, a trend we continue to see grow in popularity.Charlie spoke with Amie Paxton, Technical Sales Advisor for KEIM Mineral Paints, on how to create the perfect finish. With just a handful of inspiration photographs, Amie produced a selection of sample boards combining award-winning KEIM Innostar with KEIM Restauro Lasur, a colourwash similar in appearance to limewash and just as breathable but composed of mineral pigments and potassium silicate for a permanent chemical bond.Charlie opted for KEIM Innostar 9314 with KEIM Restauro Lasur 9529 for the walls and KEIM Innostar 9255 with KEIM Restauro Lasur 9249 for the decorative cornice, commenting on receipt of the mock ups; “the samples look absolutely gorgeous, they are just what we wanted.”Armed with KEIM’s Oval Brush and with minimum application guidance, Charlie created an authentic looking and elegant limewash finish throughout the spare room of her Location House, available to hire via 07.crescent_locationhouse on Instagram. The process of creating a limewash finish onto any interior mineral substrate, whether previously painted or bare, is much easier than you may think and can be as simple as just two coats of paint. If you’re inspired to create your own serene space or would like further information, contact Amie Paxton via sales@keimpaints.co.ukCharlie commented “we have finally finished the room with your products and it looks incredible! I have already had people ask about it and I have referred them to you. It is exactly what I was hoping for and looks so incredibly stylish! Thank you.”The exterior of the property was also decorated using KEIM Paints. KEIM Fixativ was applied onto the lime render, followed by KEIM Soldalit Grob to equalise textural differences from the lime patch repairs. KEIM Soldalit-ME 9197 and AG71 was chosen for this Victorian property, including the porch and mouldings.

Style - Moveable Partition Specialists

Leading moveable wall specialist, Style Partitions, is offering a new range of recycled fabric finishes thanks to its exclusive UK partnership with Skyfold. This fully automatic, vertical-rising partitioning system is now available with either a Marin 1300 or Resolve 1301 fabric finish, both of which use between 90-100%, post-consumer recycled polyester. Complementing any interior décor, the sustainable fabric is available in a wide range of contemporary colourways. With environmental impact being a critical aspect of any development, this green initiative is yet another huge leap forward in Style’s ability to offer the most sustainable moveable wall solutions in the UK. Many years ago, Style was the first supplier to secure a UK Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification for moveable walls. The Resolve fabric selection use an incomparable, 100% post-consumer recycled polyester fabric, solving the root cause of the problem by helping keep plastics out of oceans and landfill. Taking sustainability to the next level, during the yarn-extrusion process, a biocatalyst is added to enable anaerobic digestion of the Resolve fabric should it ever end up in landfill or a wastewater treatment plant in the future. Tackling one of the most pressing environmental issues we face today, for every pound of Marin fabric produced, up to half a pound of recovered plastic waste from the ocean is utilised. Combined with other post-consumer recycled polyester, this industry-leading textile range is created using 90% upcycled plastic waste.“This latest enhancement to the Skyfold fabric range means we are even more perfectly positioned to help organisations become more sustainable, and this is also another important development for our range of finishes only a month after we announced the anti-bacterial effectiveness of our laminates,” said Julian Sargent, Style’s group managing director.Style is the exclusive UK partner to Dorma Hüppe, Skyfold and SWG offering a complete moveable wall design, installation and after care service. With an extensive portfolio, customers can choose from simple folding walls through to fully automatic acoustic systems, with a wide range of finishes and glass options to enhance any interior.

The Old War Office is a magnificent refurbishment of Winston Churchill's headquarters during the World War II. The sensitive restoration of this Grade 2 historic building includes a 125-room world class Raffles Hotel and 85 luxury residences, along with restaurants, exclusive bars, a Spa and Wellness centre. Referred to as London’s anticipated destination, this architectural landmark opens its doors to the public in Summer 2023.RYNO’s involvement in the scheme included providing the paving and substructure to the Centre triangle Courtyard and the Penthouse Roof Terraces. The triangle Courtyard was finished with a RYNO Quadro porcelain range and supported on our TerraSmart Rail system. The system uses a double lattice structure to provide superior support to the pavers even around the complex curves of the planters on the courtyard and penthouse terraces. The design and detailing of the build-ups from concept to completion has been brilliant, fully complementing the building’s magnificent heritage and unique character.RYNO worked very closely with The Gardenists to ensure the rail layout and build-ups were designed to absolute perfection. Seeing is believing and as Calvin Dalrymple, Specification Manager at RYNO, testifies “to come to the site and see the results…, they really just speak for themselves. Knowing and understanding the coordination that's gone into this whole project and now to see it looking so fantastic has really been a huge reward.” Home to Winston Churchill and David Lloyd George, the Old War Office was designed in a trapezium shape to maximise the use of the land in Whitehall. Of the 25 million bricks that make up the building, the first was laid in 1901: the building was completed in 1906. For all Bond-fans out there, the building has featured in the background of many films: its first Bond-appearance was in 1983.

Kalwall Translucent Cladding - BH2 Bournemouth

Kalwall

BH2 is a £30m development creating a newly-constructed leisure complex in Bournemouth  •  Originally a two acre NCP car park and bus station, main contractors Vinci has built a new 10 screen Odeon Multiplex cinema, café, casino, restaurant and retail complex.  •  Structura was appointed to design and supply Kalwall translucent facades to enclose the external fire escape routes around the perimeter of the building.  •  Structura installed multiple Kalwall translucent elevations, totalling over 1000m2, providing natural daylight to internal areas by day and a soft ethereal glow which brings the area to life at night. The SolutionPanter Hudspith Architects replaced the original curtain wall and specified Kalwall® for the front elevation. Unusually, this unique translucent cladding is fitted with a tight 150mm wide grid, known as Verti-Kal™, which not only serves to emphasise height but is the first of its type in the UK. On this scheme the Kalwall panels also insulate to 0.78 w/m2 making the building eye-catching and sustainable.Unlike conventional glazing, Kalwall eliminates shadows and glare and the stark contrasts of light and shade. The system also enhances simplicity by eliminating the need for blinds, curtains or solar control. Even on cloudy days, the interior is bathed with natural daylight, which means less artificial lighting and, because Kalwall is highly insulating, energy costs are reduced.Kalwall is increasingly being used in the UK for new buildings and also for the refurbishment of cladding or rooflights on aged buildings. One of the main attractions of specifying Kalwall is its unique effect on both the interior and exterior. Although translucent, it offers the big advantage of privacy while the elevations appear crisp and simple. When illuminated at night they emit an inviting ethereal glow. The CommentsArchitect James Jeremiah comments, “This is the first time we’ve specified Kalwall and it fulfils our vision of retaining the modernist characteristics of the building. One of our original concepts for the building was of a zoetrope (one of the earliest forms of moving image) and there’s a strong history of using transparency in films with people moving behind the shadows. We felt the Kalwall system was a very good fit for what we wanted to achieve”.Amanda Birch, Technical Editor Building Design writes, “To appreciate fully the building’s transformation, it is best viewed from the street. The concrete structure has been retained along with its striking line of concrete columns, which are now a strong feature of the front elevation. The original coloured insulated glass panelled system has been replaced at first and second floor levels with Kalwall’s 75mm thick insulated cladding system creating a dynamic façade that is particularly effective at night.
