Colindale Gardens is a unique mixed-use development in the heart of north west London. Commissioned by Redrow, the full development will bring over 2,900 new homes along with cafes, restaurants and retail facilities to the local community.Project BreakdownDesigned in a collaboration between Broadway Malyan, Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios and Fourpoint Architects, the extensive 19.17 hectare project will encompass a range of residential spaces, from studios to 4 bedroom homes. Each new development will overlook over 9 acres of landscape gardens.Close to Fryent Country Park with 250 acres of rolling fields and woods, the development has been designed with an emphasis on creating a community for relaxation, sports and play. To further enjoy indoor/outdoor living, all new release apartments and duplexes offer a tranquil private balcony and/or outdoor terrace space. The full development is due to be complete 2021.The SolutionEnviroBuild provided just under 400 m² of Hyperion Pioneer Walnut and Oak decking for the residential terraces. Residing alongside the River Thames in Reading is the site of the King’s Meadow swimming pool. It originally opened in 1902 as the Ladies Swimming Baths and is the oldest outdoor public pool from the early Edwardian era in existence. However, over time it fell into a state of disrepair and, following its closure in 1974, has been left unused for over 40 years.

Metrotile has been specified for projects at PGL Liddington. PGL is an adventure holiday company that, in their own words, delivers “inspirational learning through adventure”. They have campuses across the UK (in addition to France and Spain) where young people can partake in a vast variety of outdoor activities, including abseiling, canoeing and mountain biking to name but a few. This stunning contemporary home situated in Waterford features Kingston Facing Brick from Tobermore. MDP + Partners’ concept was to create an introverted house, using two separate forms. These blocks were defined in material and scale, to create a private garden that the home is centred around. The one-off build incorporates indoor/outdoor living by connecting the south-facing garden.

This scheme was based around a prestigious new commercial office development which included a public realm space. The goal was to create an attractive outdoor space that would provide a relaxing outdoor environment for workers and serve as a communal space that the general public could also utilise. By diligently selecting a range of design led external furniture items from Artform Urban Furniture, the completed project has resulted in a sophisticated and popular external space that enhances the local area and will be enjoyed by a wide variety of people for many years to come.The Box Litter Bin is a popular option from Artform due to its flexible design options. The main structure is manufactured from a robust 6mm thick sheet with various options for the door finish. From the most popular timber-clad versions to Steel rods, and solid or laser-cut steel plate. For Wellington Place, the solid steel door with integrated ashtray was chosen with the addition of customised decals that coordinate with the area's recognisable branding. The design is simple and robust making it perfect in a whole host of external spaces.

They pride themselves on being a place for social dining; from coffee mornings and brunch with the family right through to date nights and celebratory dinners...

The Regeneration of Eaglesham Environment is a -not-for-profit volunteer organisation, established to improve Eaglesham’s outdoor areas and promote community spirit. Artform assisted their latest project to brighten up a central area of the village that had become overgrown and neglected. Flo planters were chosen for their robust, attractive and customisable design. The planters were delivered to the site and installed by the hardworking volunteers and the result is a much improved space for the village.

TPM Landscape, Manchester were appointed to design an enclosed courtyard space and two roof terraces for a new student residential development in Paul Street, Shoreditch, London. The courtyard is designed to offer an attractive and engaging outdoor environment for students to enjoy during the day and at night time. The roof terraces incorporate movable furniture to create flexible spaces, allowing students to enjoy views over the London skyline.

Stately Home, Hestercombe House, has unveiled the first milestone in an extensive 18-month project, which will see 15 rooms in the 320-acre estate being redecorated.Thanks to specialist redecoration services and expert colour insights from Crown Paints, the interior of the Portman and Jekyll rooms now reflects the estate’s luscious 50-acre Georgian landscape garden, blending the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.

Artform were approached by Design Coalition to provide ideas on an impressive outdoor seating solution, as part of redevelopment plans to enhance and update the exterior of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow. Artform recommended using their large “feature piece” Moonstone sculptural seat for the space identified. The end result for this scheme was a striking waiting area at the entrance of the hotel that echoed the message of luxury and quality assurance that the Crowne Plaza brand is associated with.

The building, located in the center of the city of Monein , welcomes, every Monday, the market . Our motorized roller shades B -Box are positioned to complement the building by allowing an outdoor protected space for the market or other public events . The simple lines and the motorized system allows a respectful integration in this building classified as a historical monument . The Polyscreen ® 550 fabric offers protection against the wind and the rain while maintaining visibility .

Salford community project, Working in Wood, is run by Incredible Education CIC, a social enterprise providing nature-based services for local communities through horticulture and forest school activities. The Cleavley Community Forest Garden also has wood kitchen, a poly tunnel, outdoor learning area, an edible garden that supplies fruit and veg and a coffee shop & cafe that serves plant-based and healthy food.

Outdoor life tends to take place inside the perimeter of block buildings in towns and cities. An inner courtyard becomes the outdoor area of choice, shielded from the noise from the roads that surround the building. The Wright Place project involved the installation of 60 balconies that were also planned as design elements. Schöck Isokorb® type KS was used for both structural stability and thermal insulation.Precast balconies as design elementsA total of 300 Schöck Isokorb® elements – between four and six per balcony, depending on size – were installed in the building structure, with some welded to the reinforcement to prevent tipping during concrete application. The Isokorb® used was type KS from Schöck's standard range, which functions as a load bearing thermal insulation element, eliminating thermal bridges between reinforced concrete and steel structures and thus preventing mould formation at the critical joints. The Schöck Isokorb® allows steel and metalworkers to prefabricate to a large degree, thus reducing installation times to a minimum. Its superb load bearing capacity offers enormous scope for balcony design while ensuring outstanding structural stability.

Situated in the buzzing and vibrant Square Tallaght shopping center, the Regatta store attracts shoppers from across the capital. As part of its rebrand campaign, the outdoor clothing store underwent a complete refurbishment to establish a bold look inspired by nature to reflect the brand’s identity. Tarkett was selected to take the lead on the store’s flooring installation after being chosen by close partners, Johnston Shopfitters, who were managing the project.

Saige products were used to help create a low maintenance garden which could have critical wheel chair access for a family member so they could use their garden all together. The contractor used Saige's Traditional co-extruded decking range in Teak to create a large outdoor space including the all important access ramp along with Saige's Subframe system to create a solid, safe and accessible environment.

Kent and Canterbury Hospital had received funding to complete a new sensory garden that could be used by their patients at the Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit within the hospital. Cardy Construction Ltd. were awarded the project to complete the garden and turn the design created by local garden designer, Christine Patterson into reality. The garden design included a requirement for some shade in part of the garden to offer cover over the new outdoor seating area.

Paving with character required for one of UK’s most biodiverse developmentsWorking in conjunction with London Wildlife Trust, Berkeley Group’s design objective was strongly influenced by the environment surrounding the scheme. The overall aim of the multi-functional location was to encourage users to socialise and enjoy the open space and facilities available. Residents can enjoy 13 acres of parkland across 2 new parks in addition to outdoor leisure spaces including an amphitheatre, play areas, and fitness trails. The Green Quarter hard landscaping design needed to tie in with the vibrant nature of the area. A functional yet aesthetically pleasing solution was required, ensuring commuter-friendly paving options. Due to the scale of the location, creative laying patterns were required to add character and break up the space.   Tobermore’s Artro adds vibrancy and personality to transformed development Tobermore worked closely with the project team throughout the design process offering complimentary paving visualisations and bespoke sample panels for the extensive hard landscaping on the scheme. The visualisation and sample service provided confidence in the final product selection.  Outdoor leisure spaces including an amphitheatre, play areas, and fitness trails provide a place for residents to unwind. Community events including outdoor cinema screenings and food markets will create a thriving new community. There will also be a new primary school, health centre and community facility. With creativity at its core, Artro block paving was laid in an interesting five-way colour mix of Heather, Bracken, Autumn, Slate and Carbon in a trendy herringbone pattern. Other pedestrianised zones feature Artro in warm clay-like tones of Heather and Autumn in a stretcher bond laying pattern. Artro’s ability to create unique design patterns by seamlessly blending various colour tones adds originality and personality to the scheme.  Thanks to Tobermore’s PrimeTop hard-wearing surface layer, Berkeley Group can be confident that Artro will retain its original appearance for many years to come.     

Crown Paints has kicked-off its support for Hull UK City of Culture 2017 with a large scale outdoor art project, which puts colour, history and a passion for the city firmly on the map. The UK paint manufacturer, which has a heritage stretching back hundreds of years in Hull, is helping to create a bright future for the area after signing-up as a Hull 2017 Business Club partner. Continuing our relationship with Renaker Build Ltd and following specification from TPM Landscapes, Artform Urban Furniture have supplied a full range of standard and bespoke planters including seating elements to Deansgate Square apartment towers in Manchester. The apartment buildings; Elizabeth Tower and Victoria Residence, have roof terraces that have been designed to provide exclusive private outdoor seating and dining areas combined with plenty of plants and shrubs. 

THE PROJECTCapstan House and the public realm at Republic, East India Dock underwent a major refurbishment to transform the 1990’s post-modern office complex. As part of the project they required retractable awnings which mounted to the ground level facade. This was designed to open up the outdoor terraces for offices, retail units, bars and cafes.THE CHALLENGEThe client was looking for high quality awnings to provide shade for the ground floor reception areas while still allowing natural light in. The design of the awnings needed to match the modern appearance of the offices and encourage socialising through the use of pedestrianised outdoor space.THE SOLUTIONOriginally the Markilux 3300 full cassette awnings was chosen due to it’s angular design. There was however a requirement for a larger projection than width on certain awnings which wasn’t achievable on this awning type. Roché instead advised on using the Markilux 1600 Stretch and Markilux 1600 semi-cassette awnings which would achieve these dimensions and keep a consistent ground floor appearance. This meant that some reception areas were able to achieve projections of up to 400cm from awnings of only 250cm in width.Custom spreader brackets were also required for fixing to a beam through an aluminium curtain.

During 2017 UPM ProFi celebrates its 10 years anniversary. The 2017 celebrations include revisiting decks from the past, new design collaborations that showcase the future of outdoor living, a true or false myth challenge, and new additions to UPM ProFi’s total deck system.

The Barking Central Development project in the Thames Gateway used Howe Green’s 7500 Series access panels to cover vital building services on a colonnade walkway. The durable 7500 Series covers were used to provide access to building services beneath the walkway. The covers are corrosion and weather resistant, a crucial element given their outdoor location. Specialist contractors DMC Group inlaid the surface of the covers with chequered tiling to follow the pattern of the rest of the walkway and to result in an excellent aesthetic finish.

Adjacent to the Tennis World complex and within a very close proximity to some of the modern outdoor tennis courts and a neighbouring skate park is a large electrical power substation. The substation was observed to be causing an audible continuous humming, causing annoyance for users of the nearby courts, as well as creating an eyesore visible from courts. To protect and mitigate noise created by the substation, Jacksons supplied 93 metres of 6.5m high Jakoustic® Plus fencing to enclose the area, installed by Gus Robinson Developments.

Billed as the 'UK's happiest office' this 91,000 sq ft building is home to the telephone answering service; Moneypenny. Planet won the project after impressing AEW Architects with stylish and cost effective products. FireStop doors were installed to compliment the earthy tones and playful 'outdoors' theme of the office design. For the meeting rooms and office partitioning, Planet's p20 slimline glass partitioning was used along with full height glass swing doors to maximise the light and airy feel of the the office and atrium areas.

Accoya has been selected for the façade of the building and has been designed to recreate Louis Vuitton’s famous quatrefoil branding which adorns many of the company’s luxury products. The façade also had to meet the high standard of quality associated with the brand and be delivered to the highest levels of aesthetic finish. The finished building is impressive and the Accoya façade is covered with our guarantee against rot and decay for 50 years for exterior use above ground, making it perfect for a demanding outdoor application and location such as this.

Helo is delighted to announce the completion of an outdoor sauna in the delightful grounds of this North London mansion. Helo’s TIMO sauna was the obvious choice for the space in question. Constructed from 44mm solid spruce logs it uses precision tongue and groove joining to ensure a quick heating cabin, whilst cedar shingle roofing not only looks the part but guarantees a water tight structure. At just under 2m square with a sociable L shaped bench layout it provided ample space for the client’s family and friends.

The Bowker Motor Group is one of the UK’s leading motor groups. Founded in Blackburn in 1919, the Bowker Group has grown rapidly, diversifying in 1984 into the retail motor trade and developing a reputation for the higheset levels of service and an innovative approach to transport needs. They contacted us in June 2015, looking for a shelter solution to make the most of an outdoor sales area for their range of BMW motorbikes (Bowker Motorrad) at their brand new dealership in Preston, Lancashire. We were recommended to them by an architect’s practice in the city.

St. Enodoc golf club is famous for its panoramic views, perfect lawns and luxury days out. In between the Cornish rain showers this team of Camel Glass installers managed to install the MEGAgrip frameless glass balustrade to the newly refurbished roof terrace at St Enodoc golf club. A strong glass outdoor safety barrier providing shelter from the wind to people outdoors enjoying the view of the sea and watching the golf. The customers wanted a commercial grade frameless glass balustrade with no handrails, instead of the traditional style of galvanized railing. MEGAgrip was used in this situation due to its force loading capability and ability to hold Centryglas ensuring it’s safe to use at this height and location. This MEGAgrip safety screen posed some challenges for Andrew, John and John, the installers, the heavy glass needed to be taken high in the air to reach the scaffolding platform. Using a telehandler they managed, to lift the glass safely into position. However, there was another challenge waiting, the initial installation of steel was slightly misshapen, meaning the original fitters had to return to rectify the problem and therefore delayed the glass balustrade completion.  Even so, the MEGAgrip installation was completed successfully and fulfilled the customer brief. Now, the balcony is a very enjoyable spot to sit and watch the golfers on the course.

New corporate headquarters for a growing independent distiller called for the perfect blend of outdoor infrastructure to reflect its strong local identity.Ian Macleod Distillers (IMD) embarked on the new HQ project after outgrowing its nearby Russell House head office.The £4.5 million development features two prominent glass towers representing the traditional ventilation shafts of Scottish whisky distilleries.And when it came to the design and creation of the building's outdoor spaces, Broxap's Litchard range provided a similar timeless yet unique aesthetic for the site.Working for Clark Contracts, Broxap designed, manufactured and installed a suite of furniture including two Litchard Picnic Units and 16 Litchard Benches.Our teams collaborated with the project leaders to create 8 Litchard Seats, as well as tables and short benches, to specific dimensions to enable unique group seating configurations.A Palisade Brise Soleil adds another dimension to the breakout space. Door barriers, complete with tapping bars to meet Scotland’s disability access standards, completed the project.The main building delivers 10,000 sq ft of office space for IMD and is the commercial hub for the independent family firm which owns brands including Edinburgh Gin, Glengoyne, Tamdhu and Smokehead.

Situated in the heart of the community of Driffield, Kingsmill School is a SEN school which caters for pupils aged 2-19 years. Situated across two sites, the main school site houses Early Years through to Key Stage 4. The school was completed in May 2017 and has been purpose built to meet the needs of its pupils. Alongside eleven new classrooms, the main site also has a new hydrotherapy pool, rebound room, sensory therapy room and sensory rooms.Students aged 16-19 are based at The Kings Mill Student Centre which is based at Driffield Secondary School approximately a mile away from the main site. This comprises three classrooms and a combined common room and food technology area.When the school decided to utilise its outdoor space to provide a safe environment for pupils to learn and play undercover, Twinfix were approached by Main Contractor Hobson Porter to design, manufacture & install four classroom canopies..The free-standing mono-pitch canopies all comprise our innovative Multi-Link-Panel Non-Fragile (NF) roofing system, glazed with 16mm multiwall polycarbonate. The roof is non-fragile in accordance with the HSE’s test for fragility ACR[M]001:2019, an important factor when installing canopies where children may try and access the roof. Each canopy has an aluminium frame, powder-coated to RAL 5015 sky blue to match the school’s building and logo. Other features Twinfix incorporated into the design of canopies are anti-climb guttering and post-protectors, which provided further elements of safety for the students.Being a one-stop shop for designing, manufacturing and installing such outdoor structures we are proud to offer a seamless service to any school or other education establishment looking for a canopy or walkway.
