Underfloor air conditioning was supplied to create a high level of air conditioned comfort for this height restricted, densely occupied building. CAM-C units were adapted specifically for this project as the client required return air at high level, but was unable to adopt the CAM-V system due to noise levels exceeding the specification and no room to install a silencer unit. The CAM's were also enclosed in custom built stainless steel cabinets.

WorkSpace was selected by the main contractor, Interserve, to manufacture and install the laboratory fitted work surfaces, cabinets and shelving within this new £8m pathology unit at Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham. This package included the design and manufacture of custom lab benching, support frames and service ducts. The new facility also provides specialist testing across the region for diseases such as Tuberculosis, cervical cancer, HPV, chlamydia and MRSA. Lord Carter of Coles and Trust Chairman, Lord Philip Hunt unveiled a plaque to mark the occassion.

9 of Howe Green’s 5000 Series floor access covers were specified for Hotel Du Vin’s French Bistro in Cambridge, the 9th in its UK chain and the first with an open view style kitchen. The requirement was for an access solution that would ensure that essential services were hidden from public view but that they could be easily and quickly accessed for maintenance or repairs. The 5000 Series blend seamlessly with the flooring and are perfectly flush with their surrounding helping to prevent any slips or trips, ideal for a busy kitchen.

A Howe Green 5000 Series Aluminium Access Cover was supplied to The Fish & Chip Shop in Islington. An unobtrusive access solution was required to cover the kitchen’s essential mains drainage services and provide fast access to them for easy maintenance. The access cover was fitted into quarry-tiled steps leading to the kitchen. It was designed to be virtually invisible to prevent any slips or trips – essential within a busy restaurant environment. The cover is double-sealed which means water or bacteria ingress is preventable ensuring that the highest hygiene standards can be maintained.

Rooms in computing centers with network cabinets are often fitted with false floors to accommodate the cabling. Through openings in the floors the cables are routed upwards. However, the cold air for cooling the servers escapes through these openings. With Clima-Tect®, these openings can be closed. Prepunched rectangles in the foam panels make it easier to pull out the cable openings so that the foam fits perfectly around the cables. Since Basotect® can be processed fiber-free, the sealing cushions can be installed while work is in progress.

A display and storage area was created that enabled the public to browse a variety of exhibits, as well as be easily accessible for staff to change and update displays. A high density on-site repository is provided, utilising Sysco®, Compactus® mobile shelving and picture racking, combined with cabinets that are straightforward for staff to operate, while remaining secure and tamper-proof.

The success of Edinburgh Printmakers has led to the charity outgrowing it’s current premises. Opening to the public in 2019, Edinburgh Printmakers have transformed the former North British Rubber Company HQ, Castle Mills, Edinburgh into a vibrant new creative hub showcasing exhibitions and events. WorkSpace were delighted to be involved with this contemporary and creative project. Our scope of works included a reception desk, 3 varied sizes of print browsers, plan chests, wall display cabinets, a mixture of base and wall units and window blinds.

Renovated throughout to an exceptional standard by Trevor Brown Architects, the house also boasts a new, contemporary extension, which has been sensitively designed to seamlessly integrate with the more traditional décor of the rest of the ground floor. The extension, which opens out through glazed doors onto an attractive decked terrace and garden, accommodates a state-of-the-art kitchen as well as a diner/family room. The installation of a Flushglaze fixed rooflight from Glazing Vision was key to unlocking the natural light in the windowless kitchen area, which shares its exterior wall with the neighbour’s house.

A Grade II listed Royal George building in Knutsford was sympathetically restored to create a stunning dining venue for the Loch Fyne brand. During the restoration project, contractor A&J Interiors specified 4 of Howe Green’s 5000 Series floor access covers. The covers were required to provide an unobtrusive access solution to cover the kitchen’s essential mains services whilst maintaining fast and easy access for maintenance or emergency repairs. Blending seamlessly with the flooring the covers avoid distortion and prevent the risk of slips and trips – essential within a busy kitchen environment.

The St Pancras Champagne Bar boasts of a world famous clientele and houses one of the busiest kitchens in the capital. Ryebrook Resins were appointed to replace the existing floorboards and then provide a seamless, hygienic floor finish that met the requirements for functionality as well as health and safety. Ryeflor RT water based polyurethane rapid curing system was installed in a rolling programme to allow the kitchen to continue trading.

In Sheffield’s super busy Meadowhall shopping centre, standing out from the retail masses requires exceptional design. So when Caffé Rizzoli were creating their new eatery and Prosecco bar, they wanted contemporary seating, counters and surfaces that could withstand the hustle and bustle of both the kitchen and shopping centre. Staron® Bright White was chosen for the eatery’s seating, kitchen surfaces and food service areas. Thanks to the product’s versatility and strength, sweeping thermoformed shapes could be effortlessly created for the perimeter that allowed for the installation of recessed lighting and glass screens.

The new Nuclear Decommissioning Authority archives facility in Wick was fitted out by WorkSpace, working alongside Reiach & Hall and Morrison Construction. More than 70 years’ worth of information and up to 30 million digital records are to be stored at Nucleus in Wick, Caithness. Nucleus will also store local archives dating back to the 16th Century. In this remote location, we supplied and installed a wide variety of FF&E items such as high gloss feature walls, tea points, window blinds, glass cabinets, timber ventilation units and a reception counter.

Family-owned German hospital group Schoen Clinic opened their first private medical facility located on Wigmore Street, London. The clinic includes 39 en-suite inpatient rooms across three top floors of the building, along with consultation rooms, therapy and office space on the first floor, and three theatres located in the basement. Our scope of work included bespoke joinery with Corian® worktops and sinks, a mixture of base and wall units with integrated glove and apron dispensers, IPS systems, lockable drugs cabinets and curtain tracks.

The Leeds Arena, when completed, will be a 13,500 capacity entertainment focused arena. BLUCHER® have supplied over 70 drains from their adaptable range of floor drains for the concourse, plant room and kitchen areas. BLUCHER® also supplied BLUCHER® EuroPipe, their push fit stainless steel drainage pipework system which was installed in the kitchen and conference areas. BLUCHER® EuroPipe was specified over other metallic or plastic systems for two specific reasons, due to the potential heat of the waste to be drained through the pipework and A1 fire rating of the exposed pipework in general.

The existing ornate and decorative features of the hotel, meant that the fire curtains needed to integrate with the existing parts of the building that were remaining. This included a four sided, marble clad atrium in one of the main entrance halls, which covers two floors. There were four fire curtains installed around the first floor of the atrium therefore reinstating fire separation between floors. Fire curtains offering up to 3 hours fire resistance were also installed in the new hotel kitchens, preventing fire from spreading from kitchen areas to the public dining rooms and bar.

The £440m redevelopment of Westgate Oxford shopping centre, Furnitubes designers worked with landscape architects LDA Design to develop a series of planting and seating solutions for the rooftop terraces, designed around a kitchen garden concept and creating a series of unique outdoor spaces for 12 bars and restaurants and offering impressive views of the Oxford skyline and the countryside beyond. Themed areas include the sinuous Crinkle Crankle, a Vegetable Garden and the more formal Garden Court as well as the Kitchen Garden itself. Planters were manufactured predominantly in steel, some with additional timber cladding, others with integrated seating and lighting.

Luxury vinyl tiles and safety flooring from Polyflor were used for the restaurant and kitchen areas at celebrity chef Andrew Nutter’s new gastropub, The Bird at Birtle in Rochdale. The Polyflor flooring used on this project was specified by main contractor H Bell & Sons Ltd and installed by local flooring contractor Winton Flooring. Expona Commercial PUR luxury vinyl tiles in the Brown Heritage Cherry design were installed in the restaurant’s dining and bar areas. Polysafe Apex safety flooring in the Biotite design was selected to provide sustainable wet slip resistance for the kitchen area.

In keeping with the stature of the project, our challenge was to supply a high-end flow restricted kitchen tap to work alongside the specified kitchens. We took one of our stand out design pieces, tall, simple yet majestic, the Linear style tap and developed the product to meet the flow restriction requirements. Over 600 of the flow restricted Linear style taps were installed into Newfoundland.
