International Timber recently collaborated with Highline Homes to create a development consisting of six residential units, built within a conservation area of Glasgow.

P C Henderson, specialists in the design and manufacture of sliding and folding door hardware were specified for a stunning and unique house extension at a property in Kelso, Scotland. The brief was to create a bright living space which opened into the garden. Two internal rooms were opened up with P C Henderson’s Securefold folding gear system which were installed between the dining room and the lounge area. The whole frontage was replaced with glazed folding doors also using Henderson's Securefold system to create a desired indoor - outdoor living experience taking advantage of the garden views.

SAS International delivered visually-striking, sustainable ceiling solutions in V&A Dundee. To complement the shape of the building SAS600 ceiling rafts were chosen. Presented with a unique mesh texture, SAS600 accentuated the open-plan layout of the light foyer. SAS730 was selected for its alternative aesthetic finish and ability to allow airflow in areas such as the exhibition space. Providing a more premium motif, SAS740 tapered baffle were specified to ensure easy maintenance without compromising the product’s geometric design. Working with the design team, SAS developed a bespoke extrusion shape for the linear ceilings to meet this requirement.

Design and integration of services was a key element to the success of the Lendlease Barangaroo fit-out. SAS International worked alongside both Lendlease and Hassell's project teams to ensure the SAS products integrated into the existing base build ceilings. SAS330, SAS500 and SAS750 were used in the office areas, cafe, lift lobbies and circulation areas.

SAS International ceiling rafts were installed into the meeting rooms, directly suspended from the structural soffit to allow for energy efficient movement of air for thermal-mass-cooling. Chosen for its acoustic properties, SAS600 offers acoustic performance tailored to interior requirements through absorptive and reflective techniques. The visually engaging SAS500 was selected for the office zones and circulation areas. This system conceals M&E services and offers an attractive acoustic ceiling. Both systems supplied to the One Molesworth Street project were in a pre-coat timber effect to achieve an organic interior aesthetic, creating a striking feature ceiling.

SAS International delivered standard and bespoke SAS metal ceiling systems to PwC, Manchester. Across the main workspaces, SAS330 was installed presenting a pristine and uniform aesthetic which contributes to the open-plan design. For the communal area, bespoke hexagonal SAS600 rafts were designed and manufactured to protect the specified lights. SAS810 Tricell was installed in the break-out area contributing to the sleek and intelligent design. Further floors were completed in early 2019 which introduced SAS330 Mesh in 12 meeting rooms. This striking people-centric office space has won the Fit Out of Workplace Award at the BCO Awards.

SAS International collaborated with architects TP Bennett to deliver metal ceiling solutions to meet CBRE’s unique demands on this CAT B fit-out. SAS330i LED noggin lights were selected to provide a seamless butt-joint solution between panels and gridwork. This effect ensures there are no gaps between light and ceiling. Manufactured from extruded aluminum profiles, each light was polyester powder-coated at SAS’s factory to ensure flawless colour consistency across the space. Delivering a complex fit-out on time and to specification, SAS delivered a striking feature ceiling that has transformed the office space for the client.

The Kia Oval, also known as 'The Oval' is an iconic 25,500 capacity international cricket ground of both modern and historical significance. A new three-storey spectator stand and two new roof terraces form part of the master plan to expand the grounds and increase its capacity to 28,000. Over 15,000 Ryno paving pedestals were used across the space.

Radii’s Pre-Construction Design Department worked closely with architects tp bennett to deliver a number of high-end bespoke solutions at this stunning location in St. James’, London.Working across 58 offices and meeting rooms, our elegant and slimline Parallel 50 and Parallel 84 systems (both Rw 45 dB) with Glide framed sliding doors were used on Level 4 with recessed head track detailing. Detailed manifestation finishes provided vision panels into the internal spaces.For 11 private spaces on Level 5, stunning smoked oak moulded timber doors were installed with PPC aluminium inlaid trim finished to match the glazing tracks. The timber portal door frames were designed to be as deep as the adjacent drywall nibs to create a flush and seamless finish.

Split over basement, ground and three upper floors, the Charles Doll Building on Grape Street, London, offers a contemporary and functional specification in this stunning office refurbishment. The development mixes industrial elements with a crisp modern aesthetic by carefully combining characterful architectural features, including vaulted ceilings with exposed brick and steelwork.Named after its architect Charles Fitzroy Doll, the building is clad in decorative thé-au-lait (“tea with milk”) terracotta – Doll's use of grand façades is understood to have resulted in the expression, ‘all dolled up’. The first floor has been fitted out to a high standard with office furniture from Vitra, providing the perfect space for those who want to move in and get straight to work.The lobby mixes vibrate contemporary wall art with industrial light fittings and brickwork. Forza’s in-house CAD team planned the bespoke black oak Firescreen partition wall to match the architect's design. As a market leading passive fire product, this Firescreen provides both integrity from Smoke and Fire and insulation from heat. This is important because in a fire emergency heat has been shown to ignite secondary fires to items, such as curtains or carpets, that are near the other side of non-insulated partitions.Via the Thinking Space Design & Build, Forza Doors supplied twenty FD30 Fire Doors with stained frames and skirting boards to match throughout the five floors of The Charles Doll Building. Chosen to match the steelwork throughout the development, the dark satin finish of the doors was selected from Forza’s Creato range of dyed veneers. This ‘Illunis’ finish is one of twelve fashionable choices in the range. Dyed veneers are an increasingly popular choice with designers as they offer cost savings over stained veneers without compromising quality.The Doors with glass vision panels, required to allow light through to the stairwells, feature our flush and quirk bead. A minimalist design option where one side of the doors is completely flush right up to the glass vision panel and the other side has a very simple elegant bead detailing.

An innovative door design was required for a new manufacturing process about to be introduced in the new Nissan battery plant manufacturing facility. Project/doors:100 Bespoke Conveyor screensThe challengeNissan required a unique door for a new production facility. The doors needed to give 60-minute fire resistance and be capable of completing up to 400,000 open/close cycles a year. Further, the doors needed to meet strict air leakage criteria and be able to withstand sudden air-pressure increases. The doors also had to interface with third-party equipment such as conveyor belt controls and fire alarms. Each required an LCD display control panel that provided a quick and easy diagnosis of what each door was doing at any point in time. The solution Using an already proven design solution which Hart developed for the baggage handling system in Heathrow’s Terminal 5, Hart adapted the product to suit this new requirement. As this was not a product already on offer, invention and rigorous testing were required.The successA decade has passed since the doors were installed and commissioned. The facility continues the manufacture of the battery cells and the doors remain a critical part of the success of the plant and have proved exceptional reliability and total cost of ownership

Kingspan Light + Air worked on project jewel at Changi International Airport in Singapore. One of the most innovative project features is the distinctive dome-shaped facade, made entirely of glass and steel. Our team worked with the architects and project team to specify and install over 100 Lumera ventilation windows. The Lumera ventilation windows also operate as an integral element of a wider Smoke and Heat Exhaust Vent (SHEV) system.

“Good morning, I have two of your doors in a boatshed at South Georgia Island. They were installed 22 years ago and are in need of a set of bottom door seals” The correspondence originates from Paul Cousens, the facility engineer stationed at the British Antarctic Survey Station situated in King Edward Point, South Georgia Island – renowned as the smallest capital in the world. Positioned in the remote expanse of the South Atlantic Ocean, South Georgia lies at the equivalent latitude as the southern tip of South America, Cape Horn, approximately 1350km east of the Falkland Islands.The station's main edifice features two bi-folding industrial Q doors, serving as vital shields against hurricane-force winds and corrosive saltwater. Throughout the frigid winters, a team of twelve individuals resides and operates within this isolated outpost. However, during the summer months, the population surges to around twenty inhabitants. These Q Doors offer exceptional thermal insulation capabilities, resulting in long-term cost savings while simultaneously enhancing security and the architectural appeal of any structure. Serving as a versatile bi-folding solution, Q Doors can be seamlessly installed externally to address spatial limitations, thereby optimising space within equipment bays. Positioned at the front of the establishment, this terrace would not only enhance the dining experience but also provide patrons with a warm and enticing view of the dining facility.To bring this vision to life, we proposed a sophisticated bi-folding system designed to offer an expansive opening, effectively blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. This innovative solution provided a seamless transition, allowing guests to seamlessly move between the restaurant’s interior and the charming patio terrace. Moreover, the bi-folding system was equipped with an easy-to-use lockable folding door mechanism, ensuring both security and convenience for staff. Factory International will transform the former Granada Studios into a world-class cultural and arts venue in the heart of Manchester. It features The Hall, a large auditorium, and The Warehouse, a flexible multi-purpose space that is taller than four double-decker buses, longer than a jumbo jet and can accommodate 5,000 visitors.Alongside the two public events spaces are The Towers, which house the ground floor entrance foyer, five floors of office space and a plant room at the top of the building. Noise reduces productivity by 66% so when it came to specifying the soffit insulation for The Towers, the architect wanted a solution that would limit airborne sound transfer and reverberation.The insulation would be on display, so aesthetics was also important, and because Factory International will cater for large crowds of people, the chosen solution needed to be non-combustible.Meeting the briefThe architects specified Knauf Insulation’s 50mm Heraklith® Tektalan A2 SmartTec for the soffit insulation in the ground floor foyer of the Warehouse area, main feature staircase, offices and plant room of The Towers.Heraklith® Tektalan A2 SmartTec is a cement-bonded wood wool panel combined with a rock mineral wool insulation core. Both materials have an open structure that naturally absorbs the kinetic energy of sound waves, turning them into heat. It is also non-combustible with an Euroclass A2-s1,d0 reaction to fire classification.Crucially, the Heraklith® wood wool range is also designed for applications where aesthetics is important because the panel is on display. It features bevelled edges and comes in nature tone as standard, or can be ordered in any RAL colour upon request, to create a stylish, uniform finish.To compliment the design schemes in the different zones across the building, contractors, Mansell Building Solutions, ordered the panels in a combination of midnight blue, pebble grey, anthracite and black.Scheduling deliveriesAs the Factory International site is quite compact, there was little room available for storage. So, Knauf Insulation worked closely with distributor Encon Insulation to ensure the insulation was held in stock. Smaller deliveries were then made in line with Mansell Building Solutions’s schedule of works. This ensured that the insulation could be installed as soon as it arrived on site.The product is quick and easy to install. Panels are fixed into position by installing Heraklith® DDS Plus Concrete Screws into each corner and the centre of the panel. The fastener heads have a patented wood wool texture to enhance the finished appearance.Ultimately, installing Heraklith® Tektalan A2 SmartTec onto the soffits in The Towers and the ground floor foyer of the Warehouse not only compliments the design scheme and contributes to fire safety, but it will enable the team behind the events at Factory International to enjoy a quieter working environment too. 

SAS International bespoke metalwork comprising of a striking waveform shaped ceiling was designed by architects Arup Associates to feature in the construction of Ropemaker Place, London EC2 for British Land. Specialist bespoke wave ceilings were installed in the atrium, main reception area, lift lobbies and main external canopy. The waveform panel, although elegant in appearance, had to have the required strength to support the light fitting. Place, is a state of the art commercial development with impressive sustainability credentials.

After four years of construction and planning, the 451,000m2 Terminal 3 expansion of Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport in southern China was opened in 2013. Hardwearing properties, along with hygiene, were of extreme importance to the specifiers. As part of standard Quality Assurance practice, Jotun supported the client with coating inspection to promote and maintain quality control along with the supply of our high quality protective coatings for the impressive new terminal and cross walkway. The airport, with its 1,6km-long new terminal, has become a true landmark.

The Garden State Hotel is an iconic building in Melbourne. Accoya was chosen for a feature wall in the balcony dining room – a VIP space that looks out over the rest of the venue. Charred Accoya was used for the feature wall to add to the secluded and private feeling of the venue. The Accoya cladding was lined with a polyurethane finish. Other sections of the feature wall were finished with Woca internal maintenance oil. Accoya was also chosen due to its incredible finish and its ability to adapt to the unique and fresh looks offered by modern architecture.

SAS International supplied 1,200m2 of sophisticated metal ceilings and acoustic baffles to complement the building’s sustainable design. As a linear design is prominent in the lobbies and in hallways, SAS750 battens were chosen for their ability to run the length of the corridor, opening up the space. A high level of sound absorption was required in the main lobby, SAS500 baffles were selected to meet both the architect’s aesthetic vision as well as acoustic performance requirements. In the main breakout area SAS740 baffles fitted the curve of the space, achieving the multiple radii required within the area.

Jewers Doors have completed the installation of five of their Osprey sliding folding doors to new private aircraft hangars and integral fire station at Old Warden Aerodrome in Bedfordshire.

Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC) is set to be the largest airport terminal under one roof. The airport is spread over a vast area of 34,4 km2, and this development will dramatically increase passenger capacity to over 30 million. Terminal spaces of this size have to withstand high temperatures in the event of fire, and with major foot traffic, floor coverings and walls must be hard-wearing, hygienic and offer outstanding aesthetic appeal. For protective and powder coatings, to ensure the project was first-class right from the start, the specifiers turned to Jotun.

SAS International provided the metal ceiling solution for one of the world’s greatest law firms based in Dublin, Pinsent Masons. White SAS150 was installed in the building’s commercial office space, as the product enables full service accessibility. This is an invaluable factor which futureproofs interiors in times to come.
