University of West LondonLocated in the heart of England’s Capital, the University of West London (UWL) is committed to playing a leading role in tackling the global climate crisis by becoming net zero carbon by 2030. The University reported a 60% reduction in carbon emissions in 2021 compared to 2005. However, with a long way still to go before it is able to operate at net zero, UWL welcomed a £5 million award from the Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) in 2021. With aspirations to retrofit its main sites in Ealing and Brentford, the funding unlocked a major opportunity to improve air quality around the borough whilst taking a big step towards meeting its net zero pledge by 2030.The SolutionUWL contracted Ameresco as principal contractor and designer, who partnered with NIBE Energy Systems and JKN Renewables, Ltd. The first and main challenge was to design a ground source heat pump (GSHP) system for the university without disrupting the main car park on the campus to reduce the impact on students. This, in turn, resulted in an innovative solution, combining a ground source heat pump system working with boreholes and solar PVT panels. The designed system not only supplies 222 kW of PV electricity generation but, crucially, acts as a collector system for the GSHP, capturing naturally occurring energy in the air to drive the heat pump process, and therefore reducing the number of boreholes required. The old gas boilers previously heating the campus were replaced with 584 solar PVT panels in combination with 34 169-meter boreholes to provide 900 kW of heating and hot water throughout the site. Further reducing disruption across the campus, JKN Renewables carried out an off-site build, with the pre-built PVT and plant room modules being delivered on time despite constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The heat pumps and solar PVT were supplied by NIBE Energy Systems, and JKN Renewables undertook the design, installation and commissioning of the system.The ResultsThis transformation really highlights the benefits of combining multiple technologies to deliver efficient, low-carbon solutions. Whilst the full capacity could have been delivered using boreholes, which would have been a less costly option, the University welcomed the installation of PVT as an innovative and space-saving option.The major project will save an estimated 500 tonnes of carbon each year, and 9,460 tonnes across the equipment’s lifetime. It will also save 3,116,738 kWh of gas-derived energy per year (equivalent to 70 heated homes) whilst improving local air quality.The project is thought to be one of the world’s largest PVT projects, and positions UWL as a leader in higher education for addressing the climate crisis. Helo UK Ltd completed the installation of a wellness suite at Old Thorns Golf & Country Estate in Liphook, Hampshire. The installation comprised an attractive Herb sauna with a large feature window, heated by two Rocher designer sauna heaters loaded with 240 kilos of stones for excellent infusion. The other attractions include an Aroma steam room, ice fountain, heated loungers, heated bench and footspa combination.

Lewes Cycle Hub was a full turnkey project for Cyclepods. We were involved in every step of the process from designing the initial Hub concept to carry out installation and fully equipping the Cycle Hub with state-of-the-art facilities such as access-control, CCTV, gas-assisted two-tier racks and bike pump and repair stand.

Overview A collaborative project with our long-lasting customers Jet Environmental Systems resulted in the successful installation of three HEM-SLx 525kW heat exchange modules, aimed at providing warehouse heating for a prominent automotive component warehouse in Ellesmere Port. The project involved a bespoke-designed air handling unit (AHU) expertly manufactured by Linton Services Ltd and delivered as a comprehensive turnkey heating solutionBackgroundThe warehouse had a substantial floor area of 39,000m2 and a volume of 760,000m3. The main requirement was to maintain an internal temperature of 16C degrees, even during outdoor temperatures as low as -4C degrees. To ensure efficient heating and uniform distribution throughout the space, a HEM-SL heating solution with a capacity of 525kW and an airflow of 37.5m3/s was needed. The client preferred natural gas as the heating fuel, which Jet Environmental incorporated into their custom-designed air handling unit (AHU) manufactured by Linton Services Ltd in Presteigne.SolutionThe warehouse layout and heating load necessitated the use of three air-handling units. To ensure a reliable and robust heating system, Jet Environmental selected Powrmatic as the heating supplier. Jet Environmental, Linton Services, and Powrmatic have a longstanding relationship and extensive knowledge of each other’s businesses. This familiarity ensures seamless integration of their products and expertise.Each custom-designed HEM unit was manufactured in the UK at Powrmatic’s manufacturing in Ilminster, Somerset. By choosing British-built products, customers can have confidence in the reliability, durability, and adherence to strict industry standards. Each HEMx unit is custom made with a wide range of kW and size configurations and has been adapted to suit the needs of the OEM and AHU industry by the provision of its slot-in casing arrangement.ResultThe collaborative efforts of Jet Environmental Systems, Linton Services, and Powrmatic resulted in the successful implementation of an efficient heating solution for the automotive component warehouse. The customized AHUs, designed by Jet Environmental and manufactured by Linton Services, effectively delivered the required heating capacity to maintain a consistent internal temperature of 16C degrees. Powrmatic’s reliable heating equipment ensured optimal performance and met the client’s expectations.The client was impressed with the comprehensive turnkey solution provided by Jet Environmental Systems. A DOFF steam cleaner was used to thoroughly clean the moss and lichen from this asbestos roof in Bridgwater. The metal fixings were treated with Liquasil's rust tolerant primer and then sealed, along with cracked sheets, using Non-Sag Sealer, before the whole roof was coated using Asbestoseal 20. The end result was a leak-free asbestos roof that will last for many more years. Asbestoseal is the only BBA Approved coating system for asbestos roofs.

The development at The Rudding Park Hotel, Harrogate was the biggest spa project in the UK 2016/2017 and the biggest project installed by Sauna360 UK. Sauna360 installed thermal rooms, pools and plant over three levels. Lap pool, hydro pool, roof top spa, Rasul, Pool side sauna, Panoramic sauna, Luxury steam room, three feature showers, foot spas and heated benches, ice fountain and herbal bath.

Dana Petroleum is an oil and gas company and the project was to refurbish their UK offices in Aberdeen. The multiple floors in this office block required blinds coordinated to specific colour themes. Silent Gliss SG 4910 were specified - 233 blinds installed, some with a screen fabric, some with a blackout option. This was achieved by installing double systems with the blackout blind to the back of the window.

The newly built West Burton Gas Turbine Power Station was experiencing maintenance issues with its existing doors. Doors we’re not meeting lifespan expectations and failing at a high frequency. The site is very exposed and a typical failure was of doors on stairwells being caught by winds and going out of service. Powrmatic was selected to supply a large distribution centre with an energy-saving air rotation heating system for ILG's 46,800m³ distribution facility in Gatwick working in partnership with Air Ability who supplied and installed just a single Powrmatic TEx41 air rotation heater.

A new £13.5million sports and swimming complex in Blackburn town centre has been constructed to replace the ageing Waves Water Fun Centre. The joint project between Blackburn with Darwen Council and Blackburn College will provide for students and residents swimming pools but also a larger fitness suite, a dance/ aerobics studio, sauna and steam room and two sports halls. The scheme, partly-based on Darwen Leisure Centre, will reduce the running costs of the existing Waves complex and reduce the subsidy.

The London Aquatics centre was used during the London 2012 Games for swimming and diving. Dortek supplied hygienic doors to match the specification which was extremely durable, low maintenance doors which are resistant to moisture. Dortek GRP doors have permanent built in colour, are easy to clean and are unaffected by steam, chlorine and cleaning agents. This gives them low life cycle costs and means they are often proven to outlive their usage.They will not rust, swell, or warp even after years of exposure to moisture and water.

This is an asbestos cement roof refurbishment project, using the BBA Approved Asbestoseal system from Liquasil. The roof was first cleaned using a steam cleaning machine and all metal fixings were treated with Lqiuasil's SWT Primer. All fixings and cracks were sealed with Non-Sag Sealer before the roof was completely coated with Asbestoseal 20, providing long term protection against the elements. A 10 year Latent Defects Insurance Guarantee was issued upon completion.

Helo was commissioned to create a poolside sauna in keeping with this traditional style pool hall in a country estate in the south west. Space was limited and effort was made to reduce, as far as possible, the impact of the cabin on the surrounding décor. The client wished to enjoy a view of the existing pool area whilst bathing in the sauna. This was achieved with an angled glass door and full height glazed panel. Helo’s sophisticated Fusion heater, with steam generator, was used to allow a multi climate sauna to suit varying tastes.

The spa is located in a converted farm building with views down the valley to the south and fields to the north. A superb choice of thermal experiences within a relatively small space yet through clever use of glass always feeling spacious and relaxing.

The Gasholders’ architecture is anything but ordinary – 149 distinctive canalside apartments and penthouses, built within a refurbished triplet of Grade II listed, cast iron gas-holder guide frames at the heart of King’s Cross, London. Alfresco Floors supplied and installed 20mm Astor porcelain pavers across the 149 private balconies, all with views across the capital and within the radial walkway area of the project.

The 10,488 m² distribution warehouse required frost protection with design parameters of -5°c external and +10°c internal.SolutionJust one TEG41 air rotation heater was installed by our trusted partners RSY Air Conditioning. This TEG41 heater was designed to deliver an impressive 420kW of heat output. The TEG41 heater uses high volume, low velocity, air-circulation to distribute conditioned air to large open space and is the perfect solution for any distribution warehouse heating requirements. Due to the customers requirement to maximise the amount of racking within the warehouse area the distance of the unit from racking was much less than would be usually recommend (it was under 2mtrs from face of heater to face of full height racking).ResultThe newly styled Powrmatic Air rotation units in our new RAL 7015 colour were installed by RSY Air Conditioning. The unit was redesigned at the top of the unit to be top exit rather than the conventional design. The theory behind this was to direct the leaving air towards the roof and use the internal profile of the roof to aid with stratifying the air across the building length. The racked distribution warehouse will now benefit from a frost protection system which will protect the internal sprinkler system from freezing in the colder months.

The Corinthia Hotel London is a historic luxury hotel, formerly the Metropole Hotel and used as a government buidling during the war. Regarded as one of the most luxurious and important hotels in London Kaldewei worked closley with IHI and GA Design to establish and deliver a specification consisting of our Ellipso Duo Oval 1900x1000 baths for the executive suites and Centro Duo 1800x800 for the standard suite rooms. The scheme was delivered 2010/11.

This complicated asbestos roof structure was heavily soiled and leaking in numerous places. Asbestoseal was specified because it is the only BBA Approved asbestos roof coating on the market. The roof was cleaned using 150°c steam, which kills all moss and lichen spores on contact, leaving a perfectly clean substrate for coating. The success of any coating comes from its preparation and Liquasil teaches all of it approved installers various cleaning methods. The roof was coated and is now leak free with a much extended life expectancy.

The asbestos cement roof to this industrial unit in Hereford was heavily contaminated with moss and lichen and was leaking in numerous places. The moss and other vegetation was first dampened down, scraped off and placed into designated asbestos waste bags for licensed disposal. The roof was then steam cleaned. All metal fixings were treated with Liquasil's rust primer and sealed with Non-Sag Sealer. Small holes and cracks were sealed with Non-Sag Sealer. The entire roof was then coated with Asbestsoeal 20 and is now resistant to moss growth and water leaks.

The Pennyhill Park Hotel and Spa is the pride of the 5 star Exclusive Collection as well as the training hub for England Rugby. The extensive Roman themed spa was in need of refurbishment to match the luxurious surroundings. Sauna360 provided a design to incorporate the best of modern thermal rooms within the existing spaces utilising contemporary materials to create a Juniper Sauna, Salt Inhalation room, Aroma Steam Room, Ice Cave and Male Sauna. Throughout the contract, the Spa was to remain open so all the works were carried out at night.

South Lodge is a 19th Century country house set in 93 acres of Sussex countryside a few miles south of Horsham. It is part of the Exclusive Hotel Group including Pennyhill Park. In 2015, we delivered our largest ever install of two-tier cycle parking in the UK at the prestigious Cambridge University, the world’s fourth-oldest surviving university.Working with principal contractor Morgan Sindall, we installed 678 two-tier bicycle racks to provide effective and secure cycle parking for over 150 departments, faculties, schools, syndicates and other institutions. This was phase one as part of the overall requirement of 2,000 cycle parking spaces in the university which has been planned over a period of two years.Cyclehoop is the official UK supplier of Jan Kuipers two-tier bicycle racks. This Dutch company are the first in Europe to develop this unique system that uses gas-assisted moveable upper sections. Its space-saving, robust design doubles the amount of cycle parking compared with traditional cycle racks and its gas-assisted mechanism increases its usability.The Dutch Two-Tier Rack is ideal for high-density areas and can be installed at train stations, offices, schools and shopping centres and major transport hubs. Today their two-tier racks have been installed in over 180,000 places at a wide variety of locations throughout Europe.

Juta UK were involved in this scheme as the Brownfield site contained aggressive chemicals which were costly and difficult to remediate and remove. Residual hydrocarbons and ground gas hazards required prevention from entering the structure, which has a complex layout with basement and retaining elements. Juta were able to help at all stages in construction process from initial specification through to detailing to provide a sustainable solution which performs the intended function for the lifetime of the structure.

Its spectacular clifftop setting and location just a short hop from Cornwall Airport Newquay makes it a primary choice for travellers from all corners of the UK and beyond.The recent closure of Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant on the site paved the way for the £1.4 million development of the seven new beach lofts by contractors GSI and interior designers Dynargh Design, right above the beach. Described as ‘surf-in surf-out’ accommodation, the lofts have floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic sea views. All have been designed to feel like modern city lofts, with warm textures and sustainable materials.High energy efficiencyThe DRU Polo gas stoves were chosen by Dynargh Design for their contemporary design, fitting in with the overall design and aesthetic of the beach lofts. In addition, they were selected for their A energy rating, 92% efficiency and the convenience of gas with easy remote-control operation. They have all-year-round use and are suitable for chilly autumn days and cool summer evenings. Their balanced flue system offers flexibility of installation, as they require no chimney and only need proximity to an outside facing wall. This new-build house was in a remote location and off-grid for mains gas, the house was to be heated by a heat pump and so efficiency was a major consideration for the project. The Lewis Deck system was chosen for the 1st floor of the building to provide the same efficiencies for the underfloor heating as the concrete ground floor as well as providing a high level of acoustic separation for this quality timber frame project. The build-up included the Lewis flanking and resilient strips, Lewis Deck, Anhydrite liquid screed and underfloor heating pipes.

The UK’s leading access hatch manufacturer Surespan has launched a new range of heavy-duty access covers which are designed to support loading up to 16 tonnes. The aluminium alloy hatches can take loadings ranging from 5 to 19 tonnes (FACTA class B to E) and are available in standard single and double leaf sizes. They are gas spring operated, making them easy to open, and come with a range of locking options, including Surespan’s unique locking box.

Sherwin-Williams polyurethane floor screed FasTop TG69 provided the answer for the Morrisons bakery in Yorkshire. This large facility with a variety of activities required a long term flooring solution for a hygienic finish to withstand the daily cleaning process used in this type of food factory environment. FasTop TG69 is certified with low slip potential in wet conditions and provides an impervious finish which can with stand steam cleaning and has excellent chemical resistance. The system is HACCP certified as Food Safe and Campden BRI approved as low odour and non-taint. The perfect food factory solution.

The Hale Country Club has a rural setting but only four miles from the hustle and bustle of Manchester airport. When the Hut Group purchased the club they looked to enhance the appearance throughout the facility. Phase two was the health suite and vitality pool. Sauna360 designed four new thermal rooms in the area and replaced the existing grp tiled vitality pool with a beautiful stainless steel design. The internal space was opened up with large glass frontage to all but the steam room. Two feature showers with cool mists and tropical rain were added together with an ice station.

Helo was chosen by David Lloyd Leisure and Pellikaan Construction to design and build the heat treatment rooms for this flag-ship spa facility in Surrey. It features an amazing five different sauna cabins. Each one offering the user a unique bathing experience; from the Vitality Sauna which offers clients an exciting sauna ceremony to a more traditional approach in the stylish log cabin set in the grounds of the club. There are two contemporary steam rooms - crystal and oriental, a salt grotto, a tepadarium with luxurious heated ceramic loungers and two adventure showers along with a spectacular ice chandelier.
