New angle on garage design provides easier vehicle access

Rundum Meir (UK) Ltd

A Rundum Original side sliding garage door has enabled a client in Yorkshire to apply a non-standard shape to their new garage to maximise the footprint and provide the largest area of usable internal space with easy vehiclular access. The angle of the boundary of the Victorian house presented an opportunity during a refurbishment project to remodel the garage. By aligning the front elevation of the garage with the house, vehicular access could be improved. The design required a door that could comfortably handle a right angle corner followed by an obtuse angle along the garage's side wall.
Creating the perfect garage for classic Humber car collection

Creating the perfect garage for classic Humber car collection

Rundum Meir (UK) Ltd

A bespoke timber side sliding sectional garage door by Rundum Meir has proved to be the perfect fit for a private collector of classic 1950s Humber cars. After moving into the period property around six years ago, Cab Ellis was keen to redevelop the unloved garage to create a space for housing his collection of mark IV B Humber Super Snipe cars. Having purchased and maintained four of these specific models over the past 15 years, Mr Ellis wanted to ensure the new garage would reflect the beauty of the vehicles as well as mirror the period architecture of his 1910-built home. The Humber Super Snipe was very much regarded as an upmarket car of choice amongst senior public and business figures in the mid 1950s, providing a level of luxury beyond that of the more mainstream Humber stablemate in that era, the Humber Hawk – for which the Super Snipe is often mistaken. Elegantly styled with powerful 4,138 cc 113 bhp engines, they were built between 1952 and 1956 and today their heritage lives on thanks to the efforts of dedicated collectors like Mr Ellis. The vehicles are now housed in a garage accessed via an automated timber side sliding sectional door, featuring glass apertures, designed, manufactured and installed by Rundum Meir UK. The six-section door spans 4m to provide easy access to the garage and painted in a high quality black finish to achieve a period look.Cab Ellis said: “We’re delighted with our new garage and thankful to Rundum Meir for the sliding doors which have made the dream a reality. When we started on the project we researched numerous garage door types, but we struggled to find one that was out of the ordinary, automated and available in the stable-door style we sought.“Danesch and the team at Rundum Meir were fantastic. Following an initial visit to our home, they helped us explore the options within our available budget and the door that they proposed was perfect. With the windows, it is great to be able to see our Super Snipes in all their glory with ease."The side sliding sectional door installed here demonstrates how Rundum Meir is able to develop a bespoke solution for most applications. All its doors are designed in the UK, hand crafted in Germany and assembled back in the UK prior to installation. In addition to many different varieties of timber, Rundum Meir routinely manufactures garage doors in high strength extruded aluminium, as well as special materials such as glass and façade substrates. These can be designed as side sliding sectional doors, side sliding ‘round the corner’ doors or up and over options.

Ventilated garage doors enable seamless integration of vertical timber cladding

Rundum Meir (UK) Ltd

Bespoke garage and car port doors from Rundum Meir, which provide natural ventilation and daylighting into enclosed garage spaces, can deliver a seamless aesthetic result in contemporary architecture featuring vertical timber board-on-batten cladding. This is illustrated at the Abode development in Cambridgeshire, where the architects delivered uniformity across different housing styles using a limited palette of materials. Horizontal and vertical cladding was extended into the doors for the car ports manufactured in matching oak. These ventilated doors enable fresh air and daylight to flow through the car ports from the rear gardens, adding an interesting visual dimension.

Rundum Meir façade doors uniquely reflect Manchester landmark’s heritage

Rundum Meir façade doors uniquely reflect Manchester landmark’s heritage

Rundum Meir (UK) Ltd

A bronze façade featuring integrated Rundum Meir garage doors for two new townhouses in central Manchester has been uniquely designed to reflect the architecture of the nearby John Rylands Library, one of the city’s most famous neo-Gothic buildings. The duo of four storey, high specification private dwellings designed by Snook Architects for regeneration specialist Watch This Space have given new purpose to an unused site nestling between two post-industrial buildings close to Deansgate. Their full height bronze façade delivers a striking external appearance that takes a distinctive visual cue from the library, located opposite. The aluminium façade of both townhouses features laser cut and acid-etched lacy blind tracery patterns that match those in the windows of the library, a late Victorian neo-Gothic building which opened in 1900 and is now part of the University of Manchester. The lacy pattern extends over the full height of the façade which includes large folding/sliding shutters. These balance privacy with natural light requirements for residents during the day whilst being eye-catching at night as internal light shines through the laser cut pattern. This design extends into the twin side sliding sectional garage doors manufactured and installed by Rundum Meir, which effectively deliver a sliding façade at street level. Working closely with architect Neil Dawson, Rundum Meir’s designers were able to replicate the design with total consistency and manufacture in Germany using acid etching across the six aluminium sections. Neil Dawson of Snook Architects said: “Watch This Space approached us to look at how they could transform this city centre site and we immediately saw the potential to take design inspiration from the nearby John Rylands Library. The resulting façade is unique, and through the movement of the shutters and garage doors during daily life it is constantly moving and changing. “The laser cut pattern means that the building really comes to life at night as the internal light makes the intricate façade design a stunning feature. To be able to match this styling in the garage doors was crucially important and the result reflects the bespoke craftsmanship provided by Rundum Meir.” The twin Rundum Meir sliding garage doors each provide a clear opening of 3.8 m for easy vehicle access from the street. Hand made using extruded aluminium, the fully automated bespoke garage doors have an automated pedestrian door as well as the side sliding door that demonstrate the design flexibility offered by Rundum Meir, who create every garage door to meet project requirements.

Enhanced SeceuroGlide Excel is Perfect Solution for Homeowner

SWS UK

SWS UK distributor AS Doors Ltd was amongst the first to install our most secure roller garage door, the SeceuroGlide Excel following its recent design enhancements. The Customer Based in the historic town of Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire the homeowner approached AS Doors Ltd when the frequent issues they’d been experiencing with their existing up-and-over door culminated in an emergency call-out on Christmas eve of last year. The Requirements Ahead of visiting AS Doors’ showroom, which was also conveniently located in Melton Mowbray, the homeowners had wisely carried out extensive garage door research and decided that the automated design and minimal space requirements provided with roller garage doors made them the ideal choice for their home and lifestyle. The ability to operate the door whilst parking just inches away was a further attraction and one that would personally benefit them due to the restricted space on their property’s driveway. The Solution Having firmly decided on a roller garage door, the customer was impressed with the quality and choice offered with the UK manufactured SeceuroGlide brand. They were further impressed with the additional LPCB security rating supplied with the SeceuroGlide Excel and opted for this model in an Anthracite Grey finish (RAL 7016) which pleasingly complemented their existing front door. The Installation Installed in March 2021, expert garage door distributor AS Doors Ltd fitted the Excel in one day. This was the first Excel installed by the company to include the newly designed ‘feet’ (a unique, security-enhancing feature of the Excel model). The improved design uses precision cut-outs which allows the rubber edge to neatly sit on the floor. AS Doors commented on the new foot plate, describing it as a ‘great enhancement of the Excel door’ and that being pre-assembled onto the bottom of the guide made it ‘very easy to install’. The Outcome Upon completion of their newly installed SeceuroGlide garage door, the customer expressed their delight with the product and were amazed with the difference it made to their home’s kerb-appeal. AS Doors were also impressed with their first experience of the enhanced Excel door, describing it as ‘product development at its finest’. The SeceuroGlide Excel The unique reinforced design of SeceuroGlide Excel has enabled it to become the first garage door of any kind to successfully complete independent testing recognised on a national level. In addition to the Secured by Design accreditation (supplied as standard with SeceuroGlide Original), the Excel also meets the higher specification set by the LPCB to create the most advanced roller door on the market.
