The Wickes Farnbrough DIY store is one in the latest Wickes stores to have been developed by Travis Perkins as part of its ongoing plan to double its UK store network to 400 by 2020.The project used Trimapanel® micro-rib 90mm on the front elevations and Trisomet® 80mm for the rear wall elevations; Trisomet® 120mm was used for the roof; and parapet gutters lined with a Colorcoat Aquatite® PVC membrane. (HR50) site assembled built-up system, which is being used as a feature on a number of the Wickes Stores, ran across the top of the Trimapanel® on the front elevation acting as a separator between the two units. LP1000 liner panels were also used internally.

For their first international location of leading American workplace and hospitality providers Convene, situated at London’s 22 Bishopsgate, Radii’s high-end banded partitioning and doors were deployed in an ‘organised non-conformity’ design across meeting spaces on the fourth floor.Single glazed Linear 30 (41dB Rw) and double glazed Parallel 50 (45dB Rw) partitions were used alongside single glazed doors, all installed with randomised black feature banding combined with both reeded and frosted manifestations in differing orientations to create an eye-catching effect.The fit out for Convene — designed to offer nearby businesses an inspirational space to connect and collaborate — won in the Innovation category at the 2023 British Council for Offices Awards.

With a focus on the needs of the local community, the newly constructed St Philip’s Church Centre near Birmingham, has been designed to accommodate a wide range of activities, from regular worship to choir practice, toddler groups and Pilates.Adding flexibility to the open-plan, 350 seat Worship Space, partitioning expert Style worked with Kier Construction and architects, Robothams, to install a Dorma Hüppe Variflex solid moveable wall, dividing the area into two separate rooms, as required.Allowing light into both areas, the partition includes two Variflex glass panels as well as vision panels within the double door. Alder Castle has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment, to provide 30,850 sq ft of high quality Grade A office space to the City of London. With its striking views across to St Paul’s Cathedral and great transport links, Alder Castle is a standout office development.The building is approached via the refurbished link bridge to a double height reception with glass façade which is a key focal point of the redevelopment that gives occupants and visitors a stunning welcome. C.A.T. AN15R stair nosings lead the way on numerous staircases throughout the centre. With aluminium castellated ATI49.5 inserts, visually the all aluminium profiles define the step edges also creating excellent slip resistance. A C.A.T. survey team member attended the site with the customer to discuss the suitability of products and requirements, which enabled faster project completion. Designed by OMA Architects, the £55m centre creates an interplay between sports and sciences. A rooftop running track with panoramic views of the sea leads down to the science and laboratory departments, auditorium, double-height sports hall, internal running track and a 25-metre swimming pool. Central to the building concept was social communication with large break-out spaces connected by wide, visually open staircases that link up departments. ​ ​

The project is a loft located in Columella street in the northeast of Milan as part of 25 lofts forming the residential complex by modifying a former industrial structure.To cover its double high windows, our B-Box roller blinds are positioned on the exterior for maximum comfort and sunlight protection. They manage to provide human scale to the spaces by combining technology and functionality.The same system is used with two types of guidance. Rising 143 metres in the London skyline, this 42-storey tower located in Stratford near to the former Olympic park, consists of 248 luxury residential lofts and a 145-bedroom hotel.Designed by high-rise specialist architects Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, over 17,000m2 of ipasol Light Grey 60/33 glazing was chosen for the facade thanks to its aesthetic of a light grey tint when viewed from outside but highly transparent and neutral when viewed from interior spaces.As the facade includes full height glazing, a combination of solar control and thermal insulation coated glass was needed to allow the facade to achieve its energy efficiency targets. Some glazing types also utilise acoustic laminated glass to maximise the sound reduction properties of double glazing units.

Jaguar Land Rover’s new £500 million engine manufacturing facility at the i54 business park is situated close to the M54 motorway outside Wolverhampton.The new plant, which is the size of 14 football pitches, is JLR’s largest investment for in-house engine design and manufacturing in a generation. Radii’s elegant double glazed Parallel 50 (45dB RW) and Parallel 100 (50dB RW) partitions with single glazed pivoting doors was used for Marsh McLennan’s office fronts, meeting rooms and larger ‘project rooms’ along with retro-fit room booking and aluminium faced tech units.Parallel 100 was also utilised with pocket sliding doors for the Level 6 conference rooms, while 4490mm high Parallel 100 extended screens were installed to the East Thames Room on Level 6 and conference rooms. This required structural steel work to support both the weight of the glass above the transom and the hanging weight of a folding wall below by others. Linear 59 (39dB Rw) with bi-parting sliding doors was used on small meeting hubs on Level 6.

Radii manufactured and installed Parallel 50 double glazed partitioning (45dB Rw) with adjoining Parallel 100 (50dB RW) for TS&W’s glazed fronts on the Ground floor and Level 1, including a number of stunning curved glazed elements. Linear 25 single glazed partitions (38dB RW) were used on Levels 2 to 5.Enhanced acoustic timber doors (40dB Rw) in veneered and painted finishes and with adjoining timber pilasters were utilised for the executive meeting rooms and offices.Auto-operated framed glazed pivoting doors, with visible overhead operators mounted on our top channels, were also installed to give easy access to ‘den’ and collaboration areas.Finally, a fire rated package comprising of structural Ei90 fire rated glazed screens was added on Level 5.

The Pears Building by Hopkins Architects is a world-class immunology research and treatment centre built for University College London. With only 5 similar specialist immunology centres in the world (and the only one outside of the US), the Pears Building offers world-class expertise to patients. The Pears Building provides offices, multiple research wings to house over 200 researchers and a 35-bed patient hospital for outpatients or visiting academics.At the centre of the building is a large atrium with joins the wider building and its office space to the public-facing café and entrance area. Vast, open windows flood interiors with huge amounts of natural light creating a soothing, and uncluttered feeling. Materials selected for the building were done for their sustainable credentials, ease of maintenance, durability, and cost.The Pears Building was designed to avoid becoming a “monolithic” structure and sits well within the local area. During its construction efforts were made to retain as many existing trees on the site as possible to ensure the village-esque feeling of Hampstead is uninterrupted. As expected with forward-thinking institutions, the architects endeavoured to achieve a BREEAM excellent rating, which it easily achieved with its holistic approach to sustainability.The Pears building uses Freshfield Lanes First Quality Multi in its construction and has been commended for numerous awards and won the Public Buildings award at the Construction News Awards.

Addenbrookes Hospital Surge Centre2000m² Of CemfloorA temporary surge facility on the site of Addenbrookes Hospital to relieve pressure on the main hospital as part ofthe NHS' regional surge planFloor Screeding Solutions installed 2,000m2 of Cemfloor, the chosen screed for the project, which was supplied by Mick George Concrete, Cambridge.With the rising case numbers of Corona virus during the pandemic, hospitals were coming under increasing pressure for more critical care beds, and Surge Plans were put in place across the country to help alleviate this pressure.Addenbrooke Hospital in Cambridge sought to construct a ‘Surge Centre’ to cope with the additional demands on the hospital, and Cemfloor was chosen for the project due to its faster installation time and drying time compared to traditional sand and cement screeds. This helped to keep the project on track with its tight building schedule.Lewis Deck construction offered a strong light weight flooring option for the large pour area. As Cemfloor is a flowing screed, 500m2 of screed per day was poured over this by Dave Washbrook and his team from Floor Screeding Solutions, eliminating the need for on-site mixing.The main advantage Cemfloor has over other flowing screeds is the quicker drying times, and that it can accept foot traffic after 24 / 48 hours, meaning that construction could continue quickly and efficiently to meet the project deadline.

Six of our large raised planters can be found in the walled garden of the historic Hopton Hall on the outskirts of the Peak District. The hall has a rich 600-year heritage and has hosted the likes of Oliver Cromwell and Mary Queen of Scots. Today the hall is a privately owned home with holiday cottage accommodation. Its beautiful gardens are open to the public, who travel from all over the world to see its famous snowdrop displays in spring and its fragrant rose garden in summer.The kitchen garden sits within the walled rose garden and is used to grow vegetables, herbs and varieties of pollinator-friendly flowers.There are two rows of three raised planters. Construction began on a new £350 million state-of-the-art hospital in South Wales in 2017 and has been completed during the global pandemic. The refurbishment of children's wards at Leighton Hospital by the Estates Management Team at Mid Cheshire Hospitals aimed to alleviate the distress often associated with hospital visits for young patients. Recognizing the anxiety induced by unfamiliar surroundings, the team prioritized transforming clinical spaces into welcoming environments conducive to children's wellbeing and recovery.Employing an innovative approach, large format prints of wildlife in forest and jungle settings adorned the walls behind beds, accompanied by soft natural colours on walls, panels, and fixtures. Sopro RS 648 Vibration Slurry was selected for the LIDL method of tiling which consists of compact-vibration floor tile fixing, in the new LIDL store in Bently, Doncaster. Smet Supported Partner, Core PIC Ltd, selected the superior quality German-made, RS 648 Vibration Slurry for its flexibility as a bonding slurry in the installation of stone and ceramic tiles, making it ideal for using in vibrated floor systems (or indeed conventional methods). The tiling was carried on on behalf of main contractor PDR Construction.In preparing the floor to LIDL spec, the floor screed is placed and struck off to required levels and pre-compacted using a straight edge. The bonding layer, namely Sopro RS 648 vibration slurry, is applied to prepared and pre-compacted floor screed and ceramic tiles are immediately placed with tightly butted joints to LIDL spec.After installation of a vibratable area (10 – 20 m², depending on situation/ambient conditions and resultant setting behaviour of floor screed), a surface vibrator is passed over floor covering and tiles vibrated into the adhesive bed. When sufficiently set, hardened and bonded joints were grouted with Sopro FL 526 Flexible Tile grout.Sopro RS 648 Vibration Slurry is a one-component, fibre-reinforced, polymer-modified, trass-bearing, cementitious bonding and contact slurry. Applied as flexible bonding slurry for installation of stone and ceramic coverings using vibrated floor system or conventional methods. It’s ideal for slurry application technique. Sopro RS 648 is particularly suitable for laying tiles with low water absorption (fully vitrified stoneware). Arden windows were approached by a Main Contractor that was looking for a manufacturer and installer of high quality sliding sash windows to replace several hundred windows across various properties in on behalf of the Borough. The client’s key considerations were to ensure that their residents were provided with a thermally efficient high-performance window that would provide a better home whilst ensuring planning authorities and local conservation were content with the design and aesthetics of the replacement windows. Arden were invited to be involved with the project at a very early stage and were able to offer assistance with the submission of the planning applications, including discussions with conservation officers for the area. Ultimately Arden surveyed the properties, produced drawings to demonstrate existing and proposed details for the replacement windows and achieved full planning consent. During the process, Arden representatives worked directly with the Conservation officers including providing sample windows and attending a number of meetings in an effort to ensure that the replacement double glazed windows were acceptable to all parties. One of the key issues encountered was the initial reluctance of the Conservation Officer to allow the single glazed windows to be replaced by double glazed units using a bonded spacer bar as opposed to a more traditional solid glazing bar. As the client was keen to ensure costs were kept to a minimum and thermal performance was improved, the preferable choice was to use Arden Window sliding sash window with a bonded bar and a “plant on” timber glazing bar. Once Arden had manufactured a full-size sample window this was shown to the Conservation officer and the benefits explained. Due to the traditional appearance of the Arden window, the planning applications were approved and the project was able to proceed. Early engagement with Arden was key to the successful outcome of the project. This ensured that the design and planning requirements of the client and conservation teams were realised. It also facilitated the planning of manufacture and installation, coordinating with the main contractor at a very early stage thus ensuring the project was delivered and completed on time and within agreed budgets.

This stunning Grade II* Surrey property was built in 1932 by renowned architects Connell, Ward and Lucas and is a rare example of the Modernist Movement in architecture.Described at the time as ‘more like an invention by Picasso than a house’ the building was revolutionary for its time and divided opinion. Built using reinforced concrete with a flat roof it is designed to prioritise light and space.The windows are key to the original concept which is based on the movement of the sun – in the morning the breakfast room gets the early sun and the living room benefits from the light in the late afternoon.Windows from the Clement EB20 range were manufactured and polyester powder coated in a matt Pastel Blue. The Clement EB20  double and single doors include Clement’s multi-point locking door system which can achieve PAS4:2016 in accordance with approved Document Q. 

Canal Architectural recently manufactured and installed a grand sweeping staircase structure to the iconic, Regents Crescent in London. The Grade I listed building houses 67 luxury residences, 9 Garden Villas, including private gardens and 5-star amenities. The centre of the Crescent features a magnificent double-height entrance lobby with three helical staircases. The grand, sweeping helical staircase design created a real connection between the floors and every spindle unique in design to create fluidity and movement in the installation. All three staircases were site sprayed and featured an anolok bronze finish for a contemporary look. The overall design aesthetic reflected the elegance and grandeur of the Regency period. This project was a remarkable accomplishment for the team at Canal Architectural, the increased creativity and precision in metalwork fabrication means the most complex architectural designs such as Regents Crescent can be brought to life.

May 6th 2023 will see the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. At ASH we also have royal connections and last year completed a project on the historical grounds of Caernarfon Castle in Gwynedd, North Wales. In April we took the opportunity to go and visit the site and it exceeded expectations. They have merged the old with the new in creating a impressive area for visitors to enjoy the views of the grounds. The timber deck area encompasses large bronze sculptors including one of hands cupping coins and the cascade down the timber steps. We manufactured and suppled a bespoke version of our ASH145 pull door handle in Bronze Patina. These handles had a added curve on the bottom end creating a double ski effect mounted on to our bespoke plates which are recessed into the structure of the door. The stunning refurbishment of 10 Bloomsbury Way for London & Regional Properties by architects BuckleyGrayYeoman includes Armourcoat’s KonCrete polished plaster wall finishes.Situated in the heart of central London, the former 1940’s Ministry of Defence wedge-shaped building has been substantially extended creating a modern open workspace. It includes a new double-height reception, with restaurants and retail space on the ground floor. BuckleyGrayYeoman’s new design has transformed 10 Bloomsbury Way into a contemporary and relevant commercial building with a distinctive urban feel. The redevelopment has achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ green building rating.Armourcoat KonCrete is an urban range of polished plaster colours and finishes designed for contemporary projects. The Sash Window Workshop were contacted by a couple who were looking to undertake a large project to transform a property in Gloucestershire into an elegant family home.The new wooden windows and doors had to deliver elegance and the traditional look and appearance that the customer wanted from both the inside and outside. They also needed to meet modern window performance standards, with double glazed windows and doors.They arranged to visit the workshop to have a look at how the windows and doors are manufactured and were delighted with the quality, thought and workmanship that goes into all the windows and doors they manufacture. The customer therefore decided to place an order for all the new timber windows and doors.After the work was completed, they commented that they are so pleased and happy with the end result. The customer also noted that the sash windows and doors were instrumental in the transformation of the building into a beautiful family home.

Aluminium curtain walling was used for the impressive glass extensions on the pre-existing Great Sankey Leisure Centre building in Warrington. As a part of a multiple-phase, £16 million development, the project transformed the site into a state-of-the-art leisure, health and culture facility.The transformational two-storey glass facade extension was built with 4300m2 of TECHNAL Visible Grid and Vertical Trame curtain walling at double height, incorporating glass and spandrel panels. Now known as the Great Sankey Neighborhood Hub, the centre plays host to a wealth of facilities including swimming pools, tennis courts, a sports hall, 3G football pitch, dance studios, cafe, spa, library and even a GP surgery. The entire site has been designed to be dementia friendly and over 700 locals were consulted over the plans to ensure that everyone's needs were met.

Lazenby were asked to manufacture 80 completely bespoke pre cast concrete sinks for a new build office block in Kings Cross.The sinks were used in the male and female washrooms throughout all floors of the building. The sizes ranged from a 1900mm double vanity through to a 4 metre long, quintuple sink unit.All the units were cast with tap holes and a cut out for an undermounted bin chute. The joints were carefully placed to run through the cut outs to help make them as discreet as possible.The clients were looking to create a statement piece and so Lazenby created a bespoke blue colour that matched their vision. Multiple samples were created in a variety of shades before the final colour was selected.The durability and flexibility of concrete make it the perfect solution for busy washroom environments.
