Broadband experts have taken accessibility at their Hull HQ to the next level. Cibes Lift UK has installed an A5000 platform lift at KCOM’s head office to allow for disabled access. Gerrards Cross - Driveway Installation

CORE Landscape Products visited the customer’s property in Gerrards Cross to repair and redesign their driveway. The customer was unhappy at the condition of their driveway after it had been damaged as a result of extensive building works on the property. They also requested to have the surface compliment the building whilst making access to the property more efficient. Due to the need for disabled access, it was extremely important to create a driveway with stabilized gravel.

The client required a gravel driveway that could withstand the use of larger vehicles, in this case, most notably ambulance access. A DDA compliant surface had to be laid due to the client’s disability, teamed with an application that could combat the waterlogging that was being caused by excess water coming off the adjacent farmer’s field. Funded by the local council, the costs covered the materials as well as the cost of preparing the existing ground for the grid.

RDaSH – Adult Mental Health Inpatient Facilities

Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) operates services in 200 locations across Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire. It provides an inpatient and community mental health, learning disability and addiction services for adult, young people and children. The trust required a solution to help prevent the possibility of suicide from door tops while not compromising the integrity of the door in terms of fire, safety, privacy and functionality.

Farrow Court, Ashford - Sheltered housing


Farrow Court, in Ashford, is a modern, vibrant older people’s housing scheme designed to enhance quality of life through innovative, thoughtful design. Built in two phases, Farrow Court will eventually comprise 84 care-ready apartments, an eight bed recuperative care centre, 12 independent living apartments for people with learning disabilities, a shop, hairdressers and therapy room, along with an Age UK Community Resource Centre.

Calvert Trust, Kielder

Innova Care Concepts

The Calvert Trust was set up to provide a fully-accessible luxury holiday home for people with disabilities and their families to stay in. As such, they wanted to make sure that any accessible equipment included in their lodges and chalets was as discreet as possible. We worked with them on their Kielder campus, and created bespoke Integralift hidden hoist systems to go around the double bed from either side. You wouldn't even know they were there! Altro integrated package brings feel-good factor to flagship spinal injury centre


An integrated package of Altro floors, walls and ceilings have been installed in a brand new flagship Spinal Injury Centre in Dorset, run by disability charity Livability, creating a homely, design-led unit with a high level of aesthetic appeal. Livability Holton Lee has recently undergone a total refurbishment, carried out by main contractor Stepnell Ltd, transforming the existing care home into a well-being discovery centre and purpose-built Spinal Injury Centre.

Ginni’s main aim was to create a tranquil feeling throughout the facility, which in turn would help users of the centre to feel relaxed and comfortable during their visits. ”The décor was previously very plain. Everyone loves a trip to the seaside and feels refreshed after a day by the sea so I wanted to create that atmosphere within the Centre.” Explains Ginni.

The solution offered by Intastop was to ensure the door had full anti-ligature protection with the Door Top Alarm and fully clad the door in high quality anti-bacterial impact protection sheet which prevents water absorption and protects from damage.

The New Fusion Hive Innovation Centre at Northshore, Stockton-On-Tees, was part of a 56 acre and £300 million overall project. The 36,000 sq ft Innovation centre is a state-of- the-art, high-tech building that provides spaces for small and medium sized science and technology businesses. Having been identified as the preferred supplier, Artform offered a selection of site furniture elements which included Big Harris Benches, Word Bollards and Box Litter Bins. There were also bespoke signage plates incorporated into some of the bollards to identify disabled parking bays.

CBRE wanted to replace their existing automatic doors at the front and rear of their newly refurbished building with stylish doors which are safe, reliable and ensured effortless pedestrian flow. Two record K41 stainless steel four-leaf revolving doors constructed from glass to provide a modern, minimalistic look were installed. A stainless steel swing door complete with a record DFA 127 operator has also been installed next to revolving door at the main entrance to provide a wider opening for disabled access and deliveries of large, bulky items to the premises.

Treloar is a specialist college for students with physical disabilities aged sixteen or over. When Architects McAllen & Penfold were designing the new Brewer House Halls of Residence they wanted to ensure user friendly facilities to aid the students in every way possible. Easyflush is a WRAS approved, hygienic and simple-to-use product that employs an infra-red sensor to operate a dual-flush WC valve. The user needs only to pass his or her hands in front of the sensor for a part flush, or hold them in front for more than a second to obtain a full flush.

Royal Shakespeare Theatre

A grade II listed building, the building has several notable Art Deco features including the staircase and corridors at either side of the auditorium. The Royal Shakespeare Company has renovated the Theatre as part of a £112.8m transformation project which saw the creation of a new 1040+ seat, a thrust stage auditorium which brings actors and audiences close together. The new theatre is also more accessible to people with disabilities and offers a more comfortable experience. The style of their washrooms needed to emulate the features adopted from years of fashion and trends reflected in the theatres' décor.

Decking - Waterways Ireland

Gripsure decking has been used on a network of scenic waterside trails in rural Ireland. The non slip timber decking is used on a new 60-metre-long boardwalk at Acres Lake. As well as on a new fishing and viewing platform, which is accessible to disabled visitors, and will ensure the waterside attraction stays safe– even in wet weather. Created by Waterways Ireland, the development is aimed at attracting more people to enjoy the waterways. As well as traditional boaters, the family-friendly trails are now bringing walkers, canoeists, paddle boarders and cyclists to enjoy the trails.

Heathrow Terminal 2, 3 and 5

With over 50 WC facilities throughout the terminal, all needing to meet strict, accessibility and durability criteria, a new approach to the washroom specification was required. T5’s accessibility strategy demanded that all washroom facilities should not only meet but surpass the current Part M Regulations and Design Disabilities Act. Unfortunately there was no product in the market place that met the requirements. Not willing to accept the usual approach adopted of “tacking on” an unsightly back box to the rear of a standard WC pan, BAA Design approached VitrA U.K. Ltd. in order to meet the 750 mm projection

As part of a significant redevelopment project, TORMAX was contracted by MK Contracts Ltd to install an impressive four-wing automatic revolving door to the main entrance of Harlow’s Princess Alexandra Hospital. With an internal diameter of over 6m, this prestigious entrance delivers clear and unhindered access for all patients, staff and visitors. “The transformed entrance is certainly fit for the 21st century,” comments Pasqualino Risi, Associate Director of Estates and Facilities at the Princess Alexandra. “Not only does it meet all current disability discrimination requirements but also significantly enhances the patient experience on entering the hospital environment.”

Architectural hardware distributor PSL supplied TS 92 silver Contur cam action door closers for the conference and classroom timber doors and a further TS 93 silver Contur cam action door closers for corridor doors where disabled access was a priority.

Sliding pocket doors are hugely beneficial when designing new or refurbished accommodation for people with disabilities where inclusive design is deemed important. More than 30 sliding pocket door systems and 11 Eclisse Hoist pocket door systems have been installed inside the new building. The Eclisse Hoist pocket door system has meant that a hoist lift can be between rooms to transport the young people from one area to another. Three ECLISSE Hoist pocket door systems have been installed in the physiotherapy area and a motorised lifting system in the pool area.

Franke products chosen for UK leading theme park and attraction refurbishment

Franke were thrilled to provide products to one of the UK’s leading theme parks and attractions for a recent refurbishment, which consisted of a large male toilet room, a large female toilet room and a less abled disabled washroom. Water conservation was also an important aspect. Franke supplied a number of self closing Pureline taps, which only release water for a controlled amount of time, bringing down water usage in the washroom. Stainless steel table top soap dispensers (SD80) were also supplied, removing the possibility of spillages onto the vanity units and making the area easier to clean.

Stocks Hall Care Home, Mawdesley

Stocks Hall Nursing & Care Group have homes all over the UK, and they were opening a new one in Mawdesley, Lancashire. This home was designed specifically for people living with complex physical disabilities and plus size patients. Our designers worked closely with the owners to design a flexible, thorough hoist systems that would deliver for patients throughout the building, no matter how much their needs vary. Pepenbury chooses EnviroVent for better ventilation

EnviroVent Ltd

Pepenbury, a charity based in West Kent that provides care and support to people with learning disabilities, has chosen EnviroVent’s heatSava Single Room Heat Recovery Units to improve indoor air quality, reduce condensation and enhance energy efficiency. The charity approached EnviroVent to recommend an effective ventilation solution for its residential unit which supports 70 people and is based in Tunbridge Wells. Following a survey by a ventilation specialist, EnviroVent recommended that each bedroom was fitted with a heatSava 150 to provide constant ventilation and improve indoor air quality by maintaining relative humidity levels.

The design for Cally Pool’s refurbished changing rooms follows the highly successful ‘changing village’ format which is used in leisure centres and pool facilities across the UK. 23 Cubicles and 52 heavy duty lockers were installed throughout. Orla Moore, General Manager at Cally Pool said "The main benefits of the changing village design is that it offers completely private, individual changing and shower cubicles, allows access to the pool for disabled users and direct access to the gym and sauna from the main changing rooms. We are delighted to welcome customers to Cally Pool’s new facilities".

A successful roll out of 10 bottle refill stations with drinking fountains across the school to help reduce single-use plastics on site and provide hydration to students and staff. We recommended the installation of WRAS-approved Halsey Taylor chilled indoor unit that are also ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) approved meaning they can be easily accessed by wheelchair users as well. Capable of processing up to 1.5 gallons of chilled drinking water per minute, these fountains meet the demands of the school, and hands-free bottle filling mechanism and antimicrobial coating also maintain a high degree of hygiene.

The Charter School North Dulwich

Installed 12 indoor bottle refill stations to keep students hydrated and help achieve the school's goal of removing single-use plastics from the school grounds by 2021. Vandal-resistant Halsey Taylor bottle filling model was chosen to answer all of the school’s needs: integrated filtration would ensure the highest quality of water and remove student’s concerns about the taste and smell of the water provided, WRAS approval guaranteed that all health and safety guidelines would be met. Viewing Platform at Brooklands Museum Accessible with Platform Lift

Brooklands Museum recently completed a project refurbishing a WW2 hangar with a mezzanine viewing platform. The stairs were unsuitable for disabled access, so required a lift with minimal support points, no head fixing and small footprint. Wall Protection - The Halcon Centre


Located near Taunton, Somerset, the Halcon Centre provides short breaks, with 24-hour professional care, for up to 18 adults who are physically disabled or have sensory loss. SureProtect Design® bespoke wall cladding was installed in the main corridor at the centre featuring a row of imitation panels, that have been designed to look hand-drawn with a marker pen to offer the homely feel the centre was looking for. In addition, the Halcon Centre further increased the corridor walls’ protection by installing Gradus’s CGH5090 High Impact PVC-u Corner Guards and WGS200 Wall Guards, both in colour Gravel.

Frederick Holmes School

The Frederick Holmes School in Hull was a new-build project we worked on a few years back. The school was designed to cater for students aged 2 to 19 with severe physical and learning disabilities. Classrooms and hygiene rooms needed full hoist coverage to allow students and staff to move anywhere within the room. We even let the school trial our hoist units whilst they were deciding which supplier to go with.
