April 2022 saw the official re-opening of the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol’s oldest art gallery, complete with the building’s striking new external lift shaft. Clad in a large-scale artwork designed by the acclaimed artist, sculptor, and printer maker Peter Randall-Page and produced by A.J Wells and Sons in stunning Vitreous Enamel. We surveyed, designed, manufactured and installed the beautiful vitreous enamel cladding panel system.The Royal West of England Academy (RWA) is in Clifton, Bristol, and is situated in a Grade 2 listed building, which hosts five galleries and an exceptional exhibition program focused on the best of British Art. The facade of Rollercoaster House is made up of render, a curtain wall system and Hardie® Plank cladding. It is the first time that site manager David Tomlinson has worked with the product, who states that the coastal environment conditions were the main factor when deciding which type of cladding to use. ‘With timber, David says, ‘however good a product you are going to get, it wouldn’t have had the same lifespan as Hardie® Plank at the end of the day. PVC discolours, especially the darker colours, but I am expecting and hoping that Hardie® Plank will stand the test of time.’

In an ambitious 12-month building project, the property was stripped to its ground-floor walls with a first-floor being completely reconstructed as a spectacular rectangular wooden box, with raw Accoya boards used for external cladding & fine sawn boards for internal decoration. Around 8 cubic metres of Accoya was used for both the external and internal cladding, supplied by Accoya distributor James Latham. Taking just over a year to complete, the renovation project has created a five-bedroom and four bathroom home for the Treasurers and their two children, delivered on a budget of less than £175,000.

The purpose of this development is making the re-cladding of an existing building removing Aluminium Composite Material insulation and cement particle board and replacement with new 3mm aluminium cladding and associated works. More than 1,600 litres of Textrol Oil Clear were applied to the Velodrome and whilst we still cannot produce a proper case study until the games has finished, there is some evidence out there now.The 12,000 square metre roof is constructed using a very lightweight double curving cable net, suspended from a steel structure. Beneath it, the oval track is 250m in length, engineered for speed and constructed with great precision entirely from wood.The exterior of the building is clad in 5,000m2 of custom-cut Western Red Cedar shiplap boards. The entire exterior cladding was coated with Owatrol Textrol oil.

Accoya to clad the external façade and construct individual poolside gazebos and walkways used by hotel guests. Exposed to high coastal humidity all year round and an annual average rainfall of over 2000 mm during the four month monsoon season, the hotel chose Accoya for its stability and natural appearance. Accoya delivers outstanding levels of performance, including dimensional stability, class 1 durability and sustainability. Distributors RitikaaWood used 25 m3 of 16 x 150 mm Accoya boards to clad the hotel’s façades as well as the area surrounding its swimming pool, which the distributors also designed, manufactured and installed.

As a stunning answer to the Royal Danish Opera House across the water, the Royal Danish Playhouse sits in a prominent location on Copenhagen’s harbour front. Its structure is about the interplay between three compositional elements: an oak-clad promenade standing above the water; a brick stage building and copper-clad tower; and the green glass of the building’s overhanging first floor, which gives the actors and production team spectacular views.For this striking building’s high-traffic toilet facilities, d line products play a reliable supporting role to a dramatic black interior punctuated by lipstick-red doors and bulbed, dressing room-style mirrors.
