During the core renovation of the Frankfurt office tower, the Lindner Group was entrusted with the complete basic fit-out and one of the tenant fit-outs. In addition tocarrying out various drywall works, high quality raised floors and energy-efficient heated and chilled ceilings were installed in combination with lighting systems fromLindner. High-quality wooden doors from Lindner’s own production, related joinery work, as well as flexible system glass partitions complete the construction package. Lindner also carried out plastering and painting work as well as tile, coating and flooring work, and additional installation services.Despite numerous challenges such as (heritage-protected) construction in existing buildings and the high logistical effort involved, the vision of a modern office tower wassuccessfully realized. Thanks to sustainable construction systems and building services combined with effective thermal insulation measures, the Global Tower is set tobe awarded with the DGNB Platinum certification.

Improve the Student and Staff Experience at LSEThe new building, which opened its doors in January 2022, demonstrates the School’s ambition to create a world class estate and university quarter in the heart of London. Designed by Dublin-based Grafton Architects, the large, multi-purpose building occupies a pivotal position at the southern corner of Lincoln’s Inn Fields. The Marshall Building is LSE’s largest building with ten storeys plus two basement levels. It accommodates the Departments of Accounting, Finance and Management, as well as the Marshall Institute of Philanthropy and Social Enterprise, the Systemic Risk Centre and the Financial Markets Group.HERADESIGN® Fine and HERADESIGN® Superfine were chosen for its acoustic performance, aesthetics, economy and low carbon. The impact resistant type was also specified for the sports areas. Alongside, Armstrong METAL R-H 200 panels provide a sophisticated open and contemporary look. They were chosen for areas where more service access was required but where a consistent aesthetic was also important. The metal panels were also used as ‘floating canopies’ so a high perimeter was specified to give a finished look at all sides.

Wood finish powder coating to realise vision of a timber facade Overview A brand-new Skills and Innovation Centre has been added to the Earl Street/Broad Street elevation of the South Staffordshire College’s campus, a £28million project. This 7,500 sq metre, 3 storey building will house leading-edge construction, engineering and hybrid vehicle technology workshops, along with innovatively designed social spaces. The building takes pride of place on the college’s town centre site and a suitably striking external envelope has been planned. The architects’ envisaged a facade of long vertical fins giving the appearance of timber. This would also screen a roof-top substation from view. The Project Maple Sunscreening won the contract to supply the extensive vertical fin façade and proposed using lightweight aluminium instead of timber to achieve the of span required. This project is a perfect example of one of the key advantages of PWF on aluminium, over wood, namely the ability to accomplish very long spans with structural integrity. Powdertech Wood Finish (PWF ™) was selected as the most appropriate powder coating since it is formulated to match the natural variations in colour, grain density and grain pattern of wood. Importantly, PWF meets fire reaction classification A2-s1, d0. The client selected the preferred shade from our collection and the aluminium extrusions began to arrive at our plant. We coated 4000 metres of aluminium, comprising mainly rectangular sections of extruded aluminium, of sizes 200mm and 100mm x 50mm. PROJECT OVERVIEWThe project comprised the design, manufacture, supply and installation of a new 8000m2 footprint of a highly specified Packing Facility. The brief was to provide nine GMP Grade D packing cells, each of which required strict temperature, humidity and pressure control to enable primary packing of pharmaceuticals in a clean environment with no risk of contamination. Each of these Primary Packing cells connects to a common, secondary packing area. OUR SCOPE OF WORK To meet the project specification and environmental requirements, Norwood proposed our 100mm Mediline Partition. Following a rigorous selection process, our solution was a preferred option over four alternative systems. Working closely with the client’s team and the main contractor, we designed and developed bespoke solutions such as Flush Coving, Fire Rated Vision Panels, Bulkheads and Half Height partitioning. Cleanability has been ensured through the hygienic finish of the partition panels and, in particular, by incorporating recessed radiused coving at ceiling to wall joints providing a smooth clean finish throughout the room. Our innovative acoustic ceiling combines hygienic, wipeable, sound absorbing materials and cleanroom grade panels which not only reduce environmental noise levels but also provide cleanable airtight surfaces. Within the open plan secondary area, partial height glazed partitioning was employed. The facility was built with future adaptability in mind and the possibility of increasing the cleanrooms to Grade C, therefore the Norwood Flush Coving was utilised in the spinal corridor and primary cells. Supplying over 7000m2 of ceilings and 6000m2 of partitioning, this was one of Norwood’s largest projects, delivered to an extremely challenging programme. 

A high specification sound absorption solution...GRAHAM Construction were appointed to lead the refurbishment of Senate House, part of the University of London which is to house the School of Oriental & African Studies. SOAS is the world’s leading institution for languages, cultures and societies of Asia, Africa and the Middle East.The plan is to improve the student experience significantly by offering state-of-the-art facilities, with a high specification sound absorption solution for reverberation control in the Teaching Rooms, Seminar Rooms, Meeting Halls, Study Units and Lecture Theatres.Increased sound absorption helps to improve speech transmission quality, sometimes as much as 35%, control echo as well as background noise and reduce reverberation times in teaching areas.The SOAS project will accommodate a 25% planned increase of the cosmopolitan student numbers, with staff and students together on one centrally located campus, so reverberation control is paramount in this instance.We have undertaken the supply & installation of 2,650 sq metres of the Absorb-R GypLine αw Acoustic Plaster along site our installation partner UK Acoustics. The Absorb-R GypLine αw system includes 25mm and 39mm Acoustical Absorption Boards which can be fitted direct to soffit, to a shallow narrow void track-line carrier ceiling or a deep void MF Ceiling Grid. The boards are then sanded and treated with a 3mm acoustic spray plaster with a choice of finishes. The Absorb-R GypLine αw System finishes can then be colour coated to any RAL top coat colour and provides a virtually seamless monolithic ceiling with high and exceptional sound absorption levels that meet or exceed typical reverberation criteria.

Iona Abbey on the Hebridean island of Iona has undergone a significant refurbishment including installation of galvanized steel canopies over the entrance to the refectory based on the symbol of wild geese. Mild steel perforated panels were used for the internal mezzanine balcony frontage in the refectory and the lift surround. The finish chosen for all metalwork was Evolution™- Diamond Mine, reflecting the natural rusting of steel. A high-performance duplex corrosion protection system for external metalwork with an authentic aged, weathered look without any staining of external stonework, together with less exposed internal metalwork, it achieved a harmonious finish throughout.

From project conception to completion, our expertise lies in creating high-performance roofing systems that offer both durability and aesthetic appeal.This case study highlights our collaboration with Woodholm, a picturesque property located in Southerness, constrained by the Dumfries & Galloway Council Planning’s “room in the roof” design.The SolutionWoodholm’s owners were determined to create a home that would evolve organically while adhering to the council’s planning regulations. To achieve their vision, they enlisted the services of David Lamb Architectural Services to submit a Planning Application on their behalf, seeking approval for a modification from an existing apex roof design to a curved roof. After going through the rigorous process, the application successfully obtained full Planning Committee approval on 14 February 2017.To realise their desired construction, Woodholm’s owners had a preference for using wood and oak, aiming to incorporate these elements into the design. To accomplish this, they collaborated with Carpenter Oak Woodland, a renowned timber construction company known for their expertise in oak framed structures. The company skillfully designed an oak framed structure that perfectly met the owners’ requirements. By mid-November 2017, Woodholm had a stunning and aesthetically pleasing frame in place.However, finding an ideal roofing solution proved to be a challenging task for Woodholm. Initially considering a zinc roof, they encountered obstacles due to the prohibitive costs and the challenges posed by their maritime environment, as Woodholm is located directly on the shores of the Solway Firth. It was at this point that David Lamb’s initial positive impression of a roofing product caught their attention. Woodholm’s owners approached Polyroof’s simulated metal finishes with their needs and were introduced to the Polyroof technical team. The team guided them through the necessary technical specifications to meet the Scottish Building Warrant for a Warm Roof, ensuring compliance with the required standards.Fortuitously, Woodholm’s owners discovered that Polyroof would be exhibiting at the “Homebuilding & Renovating Show” from 21-22 October 2017. At the event, they had the opportunity to meet the Polyroof team as well as Contractor, Kenny Scott of LK Roofing, Lochmaben. The Woodholm team was highly impressed and reassured by the collective experience, knowledge, and technical expertise demonstrated by Polyroof and LK Roofing. Equally important, they appreciated their ability to attentively listen to and understand their concerns.Following the show, a site meeting was promptly arranged with LK Roofing, allowing all parties to discuss the project in detail. As a result, a comprehensive and competitive quotation was provided, falling comfortably within Woodholm’s budgetary requirements.By early December 2017, Woodholm’s joiner had installed the sub-decking, which served as the foundation for the roofing system. LK Roofing then expertly applied the Alutrix membrane, a high-quality waterproofing layer, providing Woodholm with a watertight working cover.Thanks to our collaborative efforts with Woodholm, the project achieved a seamless integration of their desired curved roof design, wood and oak elements, and our advanced liquid roofing system. Schlüter-Systems provided a variety of trims and movement joints to ensure a damage-free finish for the tiled walls and floors of high-end residential project, Landmark Place. The 280,193sq ft Barratt Homes development has an enviable position on the north bank of the River Thames, near the iconic Tower Bridge, and boasts 165 one-bed suites, one, two and three bed apartments and penthouses across 10 storeys. It replaces Sugar Quay, a 1970s office building built for Tate and Lyle, which was purchased by CPC Group back in 2012.

150m2 of Oranit Shiluvit panels in Poplar were used to clad the walls and ceiling of the multi-use event space, the Pickle Factory in East London.Part of the larger Oval Space group, the pickle factory is an ex-industrial unit in Tower Hamlets designed for more intimate live music and acoustic events and has hosted corporate events for companies including Google, Forza, and Joypad.The natural finish Poplar timber Shiluvit panels are also in keeping with the versatility of the space.

It is hard to believe that this charming assisted living development for Northampton Partnership Homes is a prefabricated, pre-clad, panelised factory manufactured project.Designed by Maber Architects and manufactured by Accord's LoCal Homes business, this project demonstrates that prefabricated doesn't have to mean that aesthetics are compromised. Utilising both faces of the Wienerberger New Red Multi Gilt Stock brick, FastClad's factory bonded brick cladding system was by far the most natural brick façade without having to resort to a traditional brick skin. 

Architectural practice, dMFK, attract staff back to the office with Oscar Acoustics market-leading SonaSpray acoustic ceiling spray.In 2022, award-winning architectural practice dMFK, in collaboration with architects Sher + White, embarked on refurbishing dMFK’s HQ in Fitzrovia, London, to create a collaborative space for its workforce. They enlisted Oscar Acoustics to help create an acoustically balanced environment which would also work with the aesthetics of the interior space.SonaSpray K-13 was applied in a stunning pale grey colourway to the ceilings of the areas with the greatest potential for excess noise – the communal areas, large meeting rooms, and co-working spaces.On the finished project, De Metz commented: “We’re thrilled with how the office looks and performs. Oscar Acoustic’s SonaSpray is the single most noticeable and effective material in our office and directly contributes to day-to-day comfort and the ability to work without bothering others.”

The Sands - Durham WaterfrontArchitect: Ryder Architecture LtdInstaller: Pennine ContractsProduct: Durlum Polylam BafflesLSA Projects supplied over 300 linear metres of Durlum Polylam baffles to the new facility The Sands on Durham Waterfront in the city centre. The new riverside development was intended to move the County Council headquarters into the city centre for improved public transport connections for staff and other visitors.In 2022 the building applied for change of use planning to convert the landmark building into additional learning spaces for Durham University Business School. The change of use allows the department of the Russell Group university to move straight into the ready-made facility after delays with their original plans for a different site.The £50m facility has space for the 2,300 students and members of staff at the business school across the 1.4 hectare site. In addition to traditional learning spaces the building has modern working space for staff and academics and hopes to attract leading businesses to work with the university and graduates.Durlum Polylam baffles were used for the feature ceiling in the main event space. The ceiling is made up of 320mm deep 100mm wide baffles in concentric squares with the outer square measuring an impressive 20 metres across. Polylam pieces were finished in a Dur-Graphic faux Cherry veneer print and mounted in 9 double-row rings with alternating strip lighting and integrated ventilation systems.Polylam from Durlum is a versatile ceiling system made up of vertical baffles available in a range of sizes up to 100mm wide by 800mm deep. Pieces can be installed using suspension grid systems available from Durlum in a variety of ways including independent mounting and group mounting with regular spacing and options for demount-ability.Baffles are made from either galvanised sheet steel or aluminium and finished in a choice of RAL colour powdercoating as a standard with options for gloss and metallic finishes as well as Dur-Graphic and Duroplan printed designs. Acoustic perforations can also be applied to the baffles as well as incorporating Dur-Sonic acoustic mineral wool filling to the inside of the hollow baffle lengths.

The flooring requirement at this museum in Leicester stipulated a safe and cleanable seamless finish to exhibit the discovery of Richard III's remains and the story behind the Battle of Bosworth. A simple black finish was specified in keeping with the design of this facility. The exhibition takes visitors through the history of the Wars of The Roses and then fast forwards 500 years to a Leicester car park where a discovery was made. Resuflor self smoother was installed at 3mm thickness across the floors and this was sealed Resupen WB Satin Black to give the desired sheen finish.

Some of the treatments require pre-treatment to change the tannins in the wood which will require buffing with a white pad before applying a top coat. More than 40 bespoke column casings from Pendock were installed as part of a £10.5 million refurbishment programme at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC) to improve the main piazza and facilities.Three different styles of casings were used on the project, the building’s square section structural columns concealed with either circular or extended circular pre-formed ply/MDF casings, finished durable high-pressure laminate (HPL), spanning the floor to ceiling height of around 4 metres.In addition, a series of narrow elliptical casings, finished in red HPL, were manufactured to provide visible signalling of each hall’s entrances. The entrance ‘fins’ also incorporate chrome numbers to identify individual halls.

BackgroundThe client needed a fast track solution to replace an existing cleanroom facility to meet their new process requirements. Speed to market was the key driver without compromising future flexibility, whilst ensuring compliance with their rigorous cleanroom standards and cleaning regimes.In addition, the existing building structure could not be used to support any of the services supplying the cleanrooms or cleanroom envelope and the cleanroom ceiling had to be walk on allowing access for maintenance.BriefBYES required an offsite modular solution that could simply be put together onsite with no construction activity, assemble only. The pre-modularisation had to include factory-formed access ways and cut outs for services and equipment as well as having built in low-level extract ductswithin the modular walls. The modular structure also had to support the distributed services and walk on ceiling. All cleanroom finishes also had to be modulated and manufactured off site, ready to install.SolutionMIDDAS worked closely with the BYES design team and the end user to provide a virtual modal in BIM which included all services, fitted equipment and user interfaces throughout the complex suite of cleanrooms and support areas. From here MIDDAS modularised the complete facility including walls, ceilings and the integrated structural steel work required to support the services. Where possible, the modules were kept to standard dimensions however, to ensure a truly modular solution all non-standard size elements were also manufactured off site ready to assemble. The M100 wall system incorporated the return air ducts and provided the framework to support the MIDDAS beams supporting the walk on ceiling and service

BACKGROUNDThrough the OJEU process, cfes were appointed by the Royal Free Hospital to design, build and maintain a Central Sterilisation Services Department (CSSD) on a brown field site in Enfield. The site incorporated 16 endoscopy reprocessors, 11 washer disinfectors, eight sterilisers, two large trolley washers and associated drying cabinets.BRIEFCfes required a modular hygienic partition system to create the process and support areas around the key equipment whilst achieving the HTM and fire rating requirements. In addition to the walls, the system also needed to support the distributed services and ceiling systems, as no load could be added to the building structure.SOLUTIONThe MIDDAS M100/M200 partition system was selected with associated structural framework, to meet all the hygienic requirements for the project. The M100/M200 severe duty framework was modulated around the key process equipment to provide the fixing locations for the beams. All beams were designed to support the distributed services with clear spans up to 10m, negating the need for secondary steel work. Hygienic ceiling tiles were suspended from the MIDDAS beams in all clean areas with acoustic ceiling tiles fitted in the support areas. The M100/M200 system benefits from full independent fire testing, where MIDDAS partitions have been tested with its proprietary flush glazing and integrated door sets as a system. This ensures the complete facility is fully compliant with the fire strategy for the project and is backed by our comprehensive test data. A further benefit of the system was that the structural framework allowed M&E services to be fitted before the finished partitions. The ceilings were then simply hung in place with factory formed cut outs to suit the service penetrations.

The £55.75 million development, which used a number of Johnstone’s Trade products was shortlisted in the Best Education Project category at the 2016 Partnership Awards. Acrylic Durable Eggshell in off-white was applied to the main wall areas for the striking colours. Other products that were specified for the project included Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt on the ceilings, providing a durable finish that is resistant to fading. The doors, frames and skirting boards of the new school was covered with Johnstone’s Aqua Gloss in grey and orange to give a traditional gloss look.

Former Terry's Chocolate Factory in York is transformed into a spectacular Care Village with the help of Johnstone's Trade. The landmark building is Grade II listed and, after a number of years lying unused and unloved was brought back to life using Johnstone’s Trade’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt and Acrylic Durable Matt. Applied to the walls and ceilings of the interior building, making it ideal for high traffic areas. In addition, Johnstone’s Water Based Undercoat and Gloss were used for the trim and window frames, providing a high sheen finish that will stay whiter for longer.

Knauf integral in Warwick Hall development.The Knauf team has played a significant role in the  specification and design process during recent  construction at one of the oldest schools in England, working alongside award winning Associated Architects to produce a masterclass in acoustic  performance.The site consisted of an existing hall, which was used for assemblies, performances and functions. This hall was built in the 1960s and suffered from a series of failings which impacted its flexibility and usefulness.The proposal for the Warwick Hall was an opportunity to build a physical embodiment of Warwick School’s  academic excellence, prosperity and ambition, which saw the existing school hall stripped back to its structural frame and heavily modified to provide a state-of-the-art, revitalised and flexible school hall with  a large double height entrance foyer, two performance  studios and other ancillary spaces. The brief was given to the team at Associated Architects and they quickly relied on the quality of materials and service provided by Knauf.

Calibre based in Warrington provide the food industry with food testing technology to ensure quality and safety. Calibre are all about exceeding standards and quality and they needed their environment to do that too. The walls of their testing labs walls used to be painted in white. They soon became very dusty and dirty making the environment look unhygienic and uninviting to their clients and staff.

Based in Cheltenham, Collicutt Meats is the largest meat depot in the South West. After almost 30 years, the Elite FRP panels and fixings that were fitted are still looking and performing as good as new.

The Architects involved in the design of the new Marriott hotel at Aberdeen airport really understood the need for a solution for the kitchens which ticked all the boxes. Beplas’s Elite FRP was the product chosen to line the extensive kitchen areas because it holds the ultimate combination of fire rating, low smoke development, clean-ability and durability.

The University of Winchester programmed the upgrade of 63 student en-suite showers and toilet facilities for their halls of residence through the 2014 summer vacation period over an eight-week program. The walls were covered with tiling. The grout was difficult to clean and the tiles were showing signs of age which required regular repair. It was decided to renew areas with materials that would give long life, reduce maintenance costs and above all make it much easier for the cleaning teams to accomplish their tasks quickly and effectively.

This high profile project in The Shard was a complete office fit-out, designed to future-proof and meet the end client’s operational needs. The modern design featured Vtec’s MaxiBeam system and Supacoustic panels. These systems allow for excellent visual appeal and acoustic performance combined with being easy to install and flexible to incorporate the specific access requirements.

Celebrating 600 years of history..."The Hylton Castle Project will transform the magnificent gatehouse into a community-based, heritage-led visitor attraction celebrating 600 years of history and sharing the stories of those who lived and worked at the castle from the 14th century until the present. With training for young people, volunteering opportunities, events, outreach, and education programmes, there is something for everyone to get involved in".Soundis were contracted to supply and install Absorb-R GypLine aw Acoustic Spray Plaster to the ceilings on the Ground and Second Floor within the main Activity/Exhibition Space along with the Cafe.Absorb-R GypLine aw Acoustic Spray Plaster was chosen due to its seamless finish providing amazing reductions in reverberation times whilst blending into the look of the whole ceiling which gave a sophisticated but modern look complementing the heritage behind Hylton Castle at the same time of revitalising the building into an attraction hotspot for not only the local community but also educating visitors from further afield about the history of Sunderland.

With drawings completed by Keystone Architecture this project was first to feature our new Link & Lock Battens, the versatile design was made simple with our interlocking beam product and gave this office space a modern and welcoming design. Our Link & Lock Battens featured in this project are built for easy install, and creative adaptability. Safe for interior and exterior use, can be used as beams, battens, fins, ceilings and more. Available in all finish options and 4", 6" and 8” batten sizes.

A wedding venue that showcases a Historic England perfectly has been transformed using Johnstone’s decorative paints. Specified for its high quality finish and whiteness properties, Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt in off-white was used to paint the elegant hallway of the grade 1 listed building. As well as being applied on the walls and ceilings of the spectacular reception. Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt was used in the food and bar area, due to its outstanding durability. Additionally, Johnstone’s Satin Woodstain was used on the hand rails of the balconies to protect the wood from decay.

Johnstone’s Trade is used to create beautiful interiors for the largest private residence in Glasgow. Delivering all requirements of the brief, Johnstone’s high quality decorative paints were used to complement the properties stunning interior and to offer a beautiful home to the residents. Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt was applied throughout the property to give a long lasting finish. Used on the walls and ceilings in off-white to increase the light reflectance. Specified on the doors, skirting and other woodwork, Johnstone’s Professional Undercoat was used to provide the perfect surface for over-coating with Johnstone’s Eggshell.

PWF replicates wood with variation in colour, grain density and grain pattern. Instead of depleting timber resources, highly abundant and recyclable aluminium can be used. This is a far better material for forming the finely angled aerofoil blades for solar shading.
