Construction is underway on a new waterpark and leisure centre in the heart of Coventry City Centre - The Wave.
The new building has been designed by international architects FaulknerBrowns.
The Genesis NTC Heavy Duty Aluminium Tile-In Nosing has been selected by the contractors as it offers a cost effective alternative to ceramic treads. The PVC insert on the tread has been designed to provide additional slip resistance which is ideal for the waterpark. The NTC nosing meets DDA Guidelines and Building regulations.

The £25 million redevelopment of the hospital includes a new emergency department. Working alongside our clients Willmott Dixon Interiors Ltd, GDL were appointed to manufacture and supply the Acoustic Louvres and the Clip-on Louvre screening as part of the 23 hour assessment and A&E refurbishment. Our acoustic Louvres are designed to attenuate medium and high frequency noise breakouts from ductwork and plant room openings and were selected for the existing plant area along Pond Street. This product can be manufactured to suit any bespoke size requirements and is available in single bank or for higher levels of attenuation, double bank. Our Louvre screening can be located at basement, ground, mid or roof level and can be fixed in a conventional 45º angle or inverted depending on the privacy requirements of the designers and architects. We can also supply single or double leaf doors providing secure access to the screened areas.

The Tees Valley Hospital located on Church Lane in Acklam, Middlesbrough has used the Genesis NSL26 with a black insert for its staircase leading from the ground floor to the upper. The NSL26 is a slimline rakeback nosing that provides an excellent level of anti slip which is the perfect choice for a health care unit.
The NSA stair edge trims have been used in conjunction with the NSL26 and they finish the staircase off perfectly by providing protection for the step ends whilst remaining aesthetically pleasing.

The £83m development at ICCW, Celtic Manor Resort, South Wales, a joint venture between the Welsh Government and the Celtic Manor Resort, will provide 26,000sqm of total floor space for meetings, conferences and exhibitions.
The Genesis NSL01 with Ice Grey inserts have been used in conjunction with the blue safety flooring.
NHD05 with Ice Grey inserts have been used throughout all main and side stairwells along with NSA stair edges to complete the look.
The NLT aluminium tile-in step edge profiles have been used throughout the building to add protection to step edges and provide a classic look.

Ongoing replacement of old doorsThe challenge Hart were consulted to help reduce vermin access mainly from pigeons, seagulls and geese attracted by the feed/agricultural nature of the production process. The doors needed to be capable of thousands of operations in dusty conditions allowing large vehicles fast access to the facilities. The solution With over 30 Hart doors installed across six production facilities, the latest contract replaced existing roller shutters, which remain open all day, with seven Speedor Storms, one Speedor Super and one fast action roller shutter. The emphasis was on speed of open/close cycles to significantly reduce the vermin access and improve energy efficiency. The success The investment by Cargill is also part of a drive to improve energy efficiency by 5% and to maintain a better working environment and temperatures within the building as well as preventing unauthorised access to different areas of the plant. Amazon is the world’s largest technology company, with one of the most advanced fulfilment networks in the world.Project/doors: 9 Speedor Storm2 Speedor MiniThe challenge Due to the high-volume of traffic in the fulfilment centres where products are stored and shipped,efficiency of vehicles coming in and out of the building and the safety of drivers is paramount. Slow moving sectional overhead doors were left open to allow speed of access which is vital to efficient deliveries but resulted in heat loss. The solution Seven large Speedor Storms seamlessly integrated with existing doors in a heavy traffic despatch area. The Speedor Storms allow quick and easy access to the openings whilst maintaining internal temperature with its fast open/close action. Due to the quality and longevity of Hart Speedors there is less stress and downtime fixing and replacing defective doors so productivity is unaffected. The success Following the successful installation of Speedor Storms at Amazon in 2016, Hart was chosen as a reliable and trusted supplier. Hart provided expert design advice, specification and installation of the doors to an agreed time frame while not affecting the distribution process. J & P Building Systems
As with all balcony constructions, the issue of cold-bridging (also known as thermal-bridging) must be addressed and minimised to meet the required building standards - Part L of the Building regulations being of particular relevance.
The H-BAU ISOPRO® thermal insulation element from J&P solved this problem by providing structural connection between the internal concrete floor slab, and the external concrete (insitu, or precast) balcony, whilst creating a thermal break to minimise cold-bridging.

J&P explored a number of possibilities with the precast contractor, Border Concrete Products and the main contractor Expanded Structures, culminating in a proposal to utilise J&P’s TSS invisible connectors.
The innovative solution involved the TSS units being rotated through 90°, to accommodate the bearer within the slender 125mm rib section (see image above).
The additional challenge of the supporting downstand being radiused was easily accommodated due to the flexibility of the TSS units, and the detailed dimensional/setting-out information provided by J&P to the contractors ensured accurate positioning for the varying angles required.
The SSE Hydro - Concrete Connections

J&P was involved early in discussions with several members of the project team, and using its BEAMCON product, provided a coordinated and value-engineered range of solutions to the multiple fixing requirements on the project. These included brackets that could take vertical shear loads of 72 kN, horizontal shear of 270 kN, tension of 495 kN and a moment of 25 kNm.
BEAMCON was used to fix the innovative ETFE cladding “cushions” which give The SSE Hydro its distinctive appearance.
