Collaborative Bench Seating at Aberdeen University

CPS Manufacturing Co worked closely with the Aberdeen University team as well as architects and construction company to install collaborative bench seating. The benches will provide seating for approximately 300 students in the two state-of-the-art lecture halls. The students will be able to experience modern teaching styles and collaborative learning.

CPS Manufacturing Co worked with Loughborough University on installing seating in five lecture theatres, encompassing 790 seats in total. One of the lecture rooms included installing collaborative bench seating for 86 people. Collaborative bench seating is a new style of seating that allows students to collaborate and complete group work.

Bespoke serpentine benches for The Hotwalls Studios

The Hotwalls Studios scheme, funded by a £1.75m grant from the government’s coastal communities fund and local authority funding, has transformed the arches into 13 working studios for artists, designers & creative companies. The open space to the front of the arches has been re-paved, and 7 new wave-form benches manufactured by Furnitubes have been installed around established trees alongside the Broad Street pavement. The benches - manufactured in grade 316 stainless steel appropriate for their coastal location, with curved-form timbers in iroko hardwood - provide the ideal opportunity for visitors to sit and enjoy this exciting redevelopment area.

CPS Manufacturing worked with the architects and the main contractor to provide seating for three lecture theatres at the University of Kent's Business School and School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science. Collaborative bench seating was installed to allow students to collaborate in small groups ensuring the university could implement new teaching methods.

London Science Museum Bench Seating System

CPS Manufacturing worked with Dow Jones Architects to install a new bench seating system in the Hans Rausing Lecture Theatre. The bench seating was used on most rows to provide a 144 capacity theatre which can be used for lectures, family shows and events. The theatre includes a front row with several individual tip-up seats designed for wheelchair users.

Bespoke, concrete benches for famous art gallery

The construction of a dedicated garden space, located on a former flat grassed area between a 19th-century red-brick mill and the 21st-century art gallery, is the latest development at The Hepworth Wakefield. Landscape architect Tom Stuart-Smith designed the unusual garden benches - large scale concrete blocks with inset timber seating pads. At over 4m long, and weighing 2200kg each, the benches were at the very limit of a single piece concrete moulding and required the set-up of a dedicated new mould specifically for the 4 benches. The garden provides step-free access for use to enjoy this inspiring setting.

The brief was to design a large central circular seating arrangement that could incorporate poems written by local school children, with complementary smaller scale circular benches to either side. In the central bench the poem lettering was engraved into bronze plates inset along the centre line of the seats and pre-treated to give a visually rich weathered patina. Under-seat lighting was designed into the central benches to make them equally prominent features during the evening as they are during the day.

Specialist school receives bench from Crown Paints

AN ABERDEEN-based specialist school has received a recycled bench from Crown Paints as a lasting legacy of the relationship built up with the city’s council. The bench, which is made from recycled paint containers, was presented to students at Orchard Brae School to celebrate the ongoing work between Crown Paints and Aberdeen City Council. Caroline Stirton is the Executive Head Teacher at Orchard Brae School, which caters for children affected by severe and complex needs. She said: “We’re really impressed with our new bench and it provides the ideal spot for the children to relax.”

Chobham Academy - Retractable Seating Sports Bench

PROJECT OVERVIEW Chobham academy required a flexible seating solution to enable their theatre to be used as multi- purpose space. With performances, rehearsals and lessons taking place in the hall a seating system that could be quickly closed away at the touch of a button was a key requirement. SOLUTION Hussey Seatway installed an electrically operated retractable seating system with 161 Sports benches. Special features included integral folding side rails to reduce the set up time plus a custom row rise on the platforms was designed to allow access to be gained from the seating unit to the side balconies.

Elements XL benches were the ideal choice for Bligh’s Meadow, being deep enough to be stable without fixing down (and also allowing sitting on from both sides) and in weighing over 100kg each, heavy enough to not be readily moved by the public. Plate end support versions were chosen as this allowed a stencilised reinterpretation of the Bligh’s Meadow logo to be laser cut for brand reinforcement purposes. The plates were supplied in Corten steel, chemically weathered to provide a rich colouration and patina, and sealed to prevent the oxidation from washing off onto the paving and also staining on clothes.

Housing scheme crowns first anniversary with recycled bench

A bench made from recycled paint containers has been donated by Crown Paints Specification Services to celebrate the first year of a safety partnership with Derby Homes and Bell Group. Under a five-year contract, more than 200 Derby Homes’ properties across the East Midlands’ city are being painted with the flame retardant coating, Crown Trade Timonox Vinyl Matt, by a team of 20 from Bell Group. To mark the first year of the works, Derby Homes received the recycled bench at their headquarters in the city, which hosts a range of community facilities and meeting points for tenants.

Crown Paints donates bench to sheltered housing scheme

Crown Paints has donated a bench to Morfa Cadfan, a sheltered housing scheme in Tywyn, Gwynedd. Part of Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG), North Wales’ largest housing association, the communal areas have been redecorated in conjunction with the Tywyn Project. The Crown Paints Specification Team visited the site at the end of last year to scope out colour schemes and the best products for the job. Novus Property Solutions carried out the work, which saw Crown Trade Timonox Acrylic Eggshell being applied to the walls of all the corridors and stairwells as well as the reception and lounge.

Bespoke RailRoad benches provide flexible seating system

The Excelsior Building is a new addition to the impressive Haberdashers’ Aske’s School campus in Borehamwood. The courtyard comprises planted beds, with social spaces and pathways in a mix of resin-bound gravels and synthetic grass surfaces. To allow pupils to enjoy this new outdoor space a seating system was required that was sufficiently flexible, and RailRoad was the ideal choice. Over 60 linear metres of the Delta version from the RailRoad range was supplied, creating 4 long curvi-linear seating runs and also some shorter independent straight units, together with purpose-made steel planters.

Artform suggested a mixture of sleek reconstituted granite and simple natural granite benches. Anastasio-Makatite benches were chosen to face out to sea and to partially form planting beds with a variety of local flowers. This helped to improve the appearance of the promenade as well as providing a wonderful vantage point for people to sit and take in the sea views. Local points of reference and historical facts were also included on floor plaques directly in front of the benches so that they could be viewed and enjoyed whilst sitting on the seats.

New public space located in Rayners Lane, Harrow required the addition of a number of Furnitubes’ Lapa benches with a timber-slatted seating surface the benches are much more inviting to sit on. Following detailed site measurements taken by Furnitubes of the as-built walls we were able to determine the most suitable platform module depth and length so that all modules supplied could be common. In total, 29 no. 1500mm long benches were fitted to the two angular planters, providing seating capacity for nearly 90 people.

Brunswick Park

Brunswick Park is the largest green space on the University of Manchester campus. It includes seating areas, trees, wildflowers and walkways. The parkland was created to benefit staff, students, visitors and the local community. Artform were asked to supply and install a large number of benches and seats, forming the key seating element at the heart campus. The Cobra Bench was chosen due to its modular form and contemporary take on the traditional timber bench design. In addition to providing space for meeting, relaxation and social gathering, the scheme created a central space for large-scale campus events, including graduation.

Bespoke designs for luxury apartments at London Docklands

Dollar Bay is a residential development of 115 apartments and penthouses in Canary Wharf, London. Dollar Bay’s prime location at the eastern end of the South Dock makes for spectacular views across the ever-changing Docklands’ skyline. From the original client seating concept Furnitubes developed detailed designs for public realm quayside benches and a variety of seating solutions to the private garden, including bench seating around raised planters, linear seating beneath a pergola, bespoke recliners and picnic benches. Materials used include granite, flamed to match the paving and walling, and European oak in an oiled finish.

Furnitubes’ Zenith seating was chosen as it offered many different forms in a single coordinated range – traditional seats with backs, straight benches for placement against walls and curved benches for use around new feature tree planting. In addition, where low level gabions are used to deal with level changes Furnitubes’ Lapa benches were used to provide comfortable and cost effective seating solutions. In all, over 40 seating units were supplied to Mercia School, which opened to year 7 pupils in 2018 and will have a new intake for the following 4 years, when it will then operate at full capacity

Suffolk Golf Club


We are proud to have been a part of the renovation and expansion works at the 18-hole championship Suffolk Golf Club for the past 12 months. The overall project included vanity units and shelves, basic shower cubicles, saloon door shower cubicles, heavy duty lockers, bench seating and coat hook rails, toilet cubicles and IPS panelling, and boxed in pipework creating a bench seat.

Redrock Stockport

The Redrock Development, previously known as the Bridgefield site, is a new leisure destination in the heart of Stockport town centre. The Client required a range of products for this project, including the MultipliCITY seats & benches, which were supplied and manufactured under licence in the UK by Artform Urban, the Big Harris Benches which were customised with LED illumination, and two bespoke sedum roof cycle shelters. Artform provided their expert knowledge for the design and installation of these individual products.

Dalton Retail Outlet Park in the North East was modernised in order to create a premium shopping destination. Contemporary external landscaping as well as lighting, bespoke planters, seating and signage were to be part of the planned renovations. Product suggestions made by the Artform team offered a consistent design and complemented the original brief, whilst offering a robust durable result and a cost effective solution. The Stone Bench, Treeline bench, FGP seats and FGP Litter Bins were chosen to suit the overall project theme.

Coordinated furniture for local authority roof terrace

New development Colindale offices is recently home to London Borough of Barnet staff and community facilities. Furnitubes has supplied 6 table and bench sets and a further 7 independent benches from the RailRoad Inline range, with ‘Delta’ supports that can be readily bolted down to the decking of the new roof terrace located on the 4th floor. Eleven RailRoad planters have been placed in the gravel margins to perfectly compliment the nearby seating, and planted with contemporary box topiary balls.

EY Manchester

An office building in Manchester has a large roof terrace area that was incorporated into the building wide refurbishment. They wanted to increase the usability to the terrace by adding outdoor furniture to encourage employees to use the space for interacting and getting fresh air. The Parallel42 benches were chosen due to their flexibility and contemporary look which would complement the terrace space and provide ample seating. The Benches were installed free standing for ease of positioning and can be rearranged as required. EY now has a usable terrace area that is enjoyed by many of the company’s employees.

Waitrose Store

Artform were specified to supply outdoor bench seating and litter bins to match the rest of the multi-million pound scheme for a new Waitrose store. The products specified were the Multiplicity backless bench and the Multiplicity litter bin which are both part of the award winning Multiplicity collection of integrated site furniture. The end result for the project was a newly completed store that reflected the attention to detail in the landscaping and visually reinforces the brand promise that the Waitrose name represents in the retail food marketplace – namely one of high quality and good taste.

Cheadle Hulme School, Greater Manchester

Boyco worked with Pozzoni Architecture to design a Heavy Duty benching solution, to stand up to the tough demands of the Cheadle Hulme school sports pavilion. Solid Grade laminate bench slats and peg rails were specified to offer maximum durability and weathering ability against the rough and tumble of constant use. Boyco is able to offer bespoke solutions on any project to match exact requirements. This contract was later awarded to HH Smith & Sons, and Boyco worked with HH Smith to smoothly meet the timescales and ensure a well-timed delivery on the project.

External seating for the regeneration of Heston Park

Furnitubes supplied a number of seating products to the regeneration of Heston Park with each product chosen to complement the different character areas within the park. Zenith picnic benches and tables were installed adjacent to the new swimming pool to offer external dining space for leisure centre visitors, with views out over the park. In the park itself, traditionally-styled New Forest seats and benches have been used, together with Core concrete tables and seating blocks in selected areas that also contained table tennis tables and play equipment.

PROJECT OVERVIEW The school recently undertook the construction of a new performing arts centre. An integral part of their vision for the multipurpose studio was to incorporate a retractable seating system that featured a high end appearance whilst also offering flexibility. SOLUTION We designed and manufactured an upholstered bench seating solution to meet the schools' requirements. Our Club Bench was chosen due to the outstanding levels of comfort and flexibility it offers. The installed seating system features wooden acoustic panels that seamlessly blend with the room and custom engraved name plates installed to the school’s specifications.

Straight & curved seating for busy public realm

Seating has been provided alongside the paths of Euston Road in Camden to offer pedestrians the opportunity to rest and enjoy the green space in what is otherwise a very concrete-dominated local built environment. The contemporary styling and robust construction of Furnitubes’ RailRoad made it the ideal choice for the tough demands of this busy site. Three seating units were supplied in total - all from the ‘Loop’ family within the RailRoad range - comprising two simple straight benches and a combination assembly of a straight seat with backrest adjoined to a curved bench unit.

This comprehensive project was designed to provide superior facilities in this outstanding school. The vibrant washrooms and changing rooms incorporated stainless steel wash troughs, peg rails, and benching with the T1:90 cubicle system.

Furzefield Leisure Centre

The existing health suite at Furzefield Leisure Centre was a dated, clinical design with enclosed sauna, steam and a delapidated whirlpool spa. TyloHelo created a design to open up the space with glass frontages, heated relax benches with contemporary style large format tiles in warm, natural shades. The new health suite has a spacious, stylish feel befitting a luxury hotel, increased bather capacity, lower running costs and easier maintenance. The project comprised a Vitality sauna, Salt sauna, Salt steam, ice feature, shower and heated bench. Completed on program and to the budget.

Baltic Triangle

Baltic Triangle in Liverpool is part of a £100m development scheme, combining 308 individual apartments, gym, communal meeting areas, commercial floor space, receptions as well as parking and an external picnic area. The buildings are a stone's throw away from the famous World Heritage Site, Royal Albert Dock. The brief for the external picnic area was to design seating and tables to reflect Liverpool’s industrial heritage. Artform recommended the Spencer Litter Bin and the Pic-Nic Table & Bench for their contemporary finish in corten steel. The table and bench ends incorporated bespoke laser cutting elements into the design.

Outdoor seating for retail giant's head quarters

Shire Park is the location of retail giant -Tesco, headquaters. Alongside the building is a multi-use games area for staff to use during their lunch breaks and after work, all set in new landscaped surrounds. Overlooking the pitch is two-tiered gabion linear wall structure that provides an elevated position. Although simple to construct and attractive features in their own right, gabions aren’t particularly comfortable to sit on, but the addition of Furnitubes’ Lapa benches readily converts the wall into useful seating provision. 16 Lapa benches were supplied in total, providing seating capacity for around 50 people.

Beech Cottage - UK

The owners of Beech Cottage, a private residence located in Maidenhead commissioned us to install a composite deck spanning the back of their newly refurbished family home. The project involved the removal of the old deck and frame. Our in-house team designed a brand new 100sqm deck area including steps and facias to the rear and side. The new Durapine posts and joists were installed to create a solid raised frame to prevent rotting. High quality Composite deck boards were chosen for their durability plus they require minimal maintenance which was important to the client.

Red beach house


Accoya weatherboards have been realised on a private residence designed by Architecture 37 Limited, at Red Beach, Auckland, NZ. Accoya was chosen for its durability and stability benefits which are required for coastal settings. Profiled to Bevel Back profile with 158mm cover, the Accoya was band sawn face finish and painted with a colour called Bokara Grey (LRV 8). The coastal tradition of the Accoya weatherboards is observed with stone anchor points at entry and chimneys either end. A living wall softens the road facade, while louvered elements filter sun and privacy.

Furnitubes supplied three distinctly different types of seating, though all using a common material palette of hardwood seating surfaces on galvanised steelwork supports / frames in a grey PPC finish, with the more visible arm and backrest components in stainless steel. On the bridge itself a curved RailRoad Narrow ‘Edge’ bench was used, adjacent to the abutments at both ends of the bridge bespoke platforms provide large seating surfaces and in the surrounding hard landscaped areas bespoke seat and bench modules have been built into low level planter retaining walls. In total over 20 seating modules were supplied.
