The Stoneham Park project commenced in November 2022 and is scheduled for completion in December 2023. The development encompasses a diverse selection of 1 & 2 bedroom apartments, as well as 2, 3, 4, or 5 bedroom houses, catering to a wide range of potential residents. The project aimed to create a harmonious blend of urban and rural elements, with a picturesque backdrop of open fields, views of Sulham Woods, and convenient access to Reading’s amenities.

A Gloucestershire based independent care provider has recently completed a 46 bed extension on their care home for clients with dementia and nursing care requirements. Having worked with the contractor on a similar project, Astor Bannerman were recommended to the company to supply ceiling track hoists in an effort to future proof the needs of the home. With floor space at a premium, the company wanted to move away from the traditional style mobile hoists, which need to be stored away when not in use. Also, as using a ceiling hoist system normally only requires one carer to operate, this enables the company to adapt to the possible implications of Brexit on staffing levels.During the installation, we successfully added an XY (H-frame) hoist system into 3 assisted bathrooms and added 3m straight track OT200 hoists in 6 bedrooms allowing simple transfer in an out of bed.Fixings were also installed during the main build in the remaining 40 bedrooms, enabling the care provider to retrofit track and hoists as and when they require them at any point in the future.

Linkwood Drive is a development of 134 homes for affordable rent in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow for both Cernach and Glasgow Housing Associations. A mixture of family houses comprising two, three and four bedroom properties as well as cottage flats and single storey homes for wheelchair users were constructed over several phases by McTaggart Construction, with whom Viridian Solar signed a group deal in April 2019.

Contractors Penenden Heath Developments were selected to install the waterproof system at a four-bedroom property at Darland Farm in Hempstead near Gillingham, Kent. Thanks to the proven properties of Sika’s dual watertight solution, the property’s future occupiers can enjoy the comforts of their classically-designed rural retreat safe in the knowledge the structure will retain a robust defence against whatever elements the exposed location provides.

Forming part of a £400m Birmingham City Centre scheme the new 17 storey, 250 bedroom Holiday Inn Express forms part of the 2.3m square foot Arena Central mixed-use development. RCM supplied approx. 5,000m2 of ACM rainscreen cladding from Vitrabond, Trespa Meteon panels, the aluminium facade support framing system and fixings to this newly built hotel.

The Cooperage is located on a former industrial site in Central London and is believed to have been built in the early 1900s. Following an unsympathetic earlier restoration in the 1990s, Chris Dyson Architects were invited in 2011 to prepare a scheme for the extension and complete renovation of the property, turning it into a spectacular five bedroom family house. Plans were passed in 2012 for the construction of an outstanding hotel in Birmingham city centre. The build was the first in a group of five, four-star hotels planned to open over a period of five years under the Hotel La Tour brand. The 174 – bedroomed luxury hotel was developed at a cost of £24 million and comprises a restaurant, bar with terrace and conference facilities. RCM’s Cemboard was used as a primary sheathing board on the project

Located near Aldridge these homes command a price tag of up to £1,350,000 and are designed and finished to a very high specification. RCM were appointed by GAP Ltd to supply their Supertech Weatherboard in an Ebony stain finish to enhance the exterior appearance of these new-build exclusive homes.

The Tower was designed by world-renowned architects Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM), and features 330 executive suites and one, two and three bedroom apartments arranged around a cylindrical, central core. Working alongside SOM, Galliard Homes and the appointed drywall contractors, OCL Facades, Siniat developed a bespoke drylining system to meet the Tower's unique architectural design while offering high-performing partitions.

Situated in the Highgate Conservation area this 1916 Edwardian Baroque Grade II listed building has been converted to 2, 3 and 4-bedroom luxurious contemporary-lifestyle residential units by Furnival House Developments Limited.

Radbrook VillageShrewsburyCemfloor was the screed of choice for Radbrook Village, a mix of 3 and 4 bedroom homes along with 1 and 2 bedroom apartments in the magnificent refurbished Radbrook Hall.Floreat Homes were the developers of this project, which was contracted to SJ Roberts Construction, while the screed was installed by Ryflow Liquid Screeds.Cemfloor provided the ideal solution for the screeds on thisdevelopment. The speed of installation and the fact that floors can be walked on after a day provided the least disruption to other trades and the rapid drying avoided concerns re installation of floor finishes. The benefits to the efficiency of the underfloor heating were also attractive to the project. Cemfloor’s compatibility with underfloor heating, which has grown in popularity in recent years, and the ability to be laid at 50mm gave the builder scope with thickness of insulation and floor finishes. The screed totally encapsulated the underfloor heating pipework and eliminated air voids which ensured optimal heat transfer from the heating pipework to the screed surface.With the advent of flowing screeds, as well as the traditional sand and cement screeds, there is great choice in the market to find a product that suits your needs when it comes to durability, time management and installation.

Derek Coffey, a college lecturer, renovated a traditional 1800s-built Dutch barn in Llansilin, near Oswestry, Shropshire. The exterior of the barn is clad in burnt larch which looks fantastic and the interior of the home is equally impressive. When the renovation work reached an end in autumn 2023 the finished result was nothing short of stunning. The converted barn will now be a family home for Derek, his wife and their ten year old daughter.Coffey installed ECLISSE pocket door systems throughout the home in order to provide more usable space and better options for interior layouts. A total of ten pocket doors were installed, which were especially beneficial on both of the upstairs bedrooms leading onto ensuite bathrooms. “Installing pocket doors throughout the barn allowed us to save space and to use the space that we do have to better effect,” says Coffey. “We have another ensuite bedroom downstairs with a pocket door and the pocket doors on the downstairs toilet and utility room are especially beneficial as these doors would otherwise have clashed with one another when open – this problem is eliminated with sliding doors.”

The Design Museum and Hollandgreen apartment complex is an exciting new mixed use development in West London, located at the southern end of Holland Park on Kensington High Street. The development consists of three residential blocks grouped around the museum, with accommodation comprising 56 one to five bedroom flats, together with larger individual penthouses. All windows are also furnished with beautiful, light sheers to reduce solar heat gain and maximise resident’s privacy and exclusivity.

In January, Gypsol HTC screed was installed to the ground floors of a new self-build home in North Lincolnshire, UK.The four bedroom, self-build, detached home saw 160 square metres of Gypsol Anhydrite Screed installed by Z K Flow Screed. The floor screed was designed to be placed over underfloor heating, with a depth ranging from 40 – 70mm. It was produced by Ever Readymix in Sandtoft and the pour completed in one day.

Canal were approached to manufacture and install an exclusive feature staircase for a private residence in Fulham. The staircase structure was installed from the basement to the ground floor and then leading upto the first floor and master bedroom. The staircase was manufactured in mild steel, featured oak box treads with a laminated glass balustrade and stainless steel handrail. The team added a high build deep black finish to each of the treads to blend with the contemporary and elegant staircase design.

Over 200 Optima windows and doors from Profile 22 were installed in an £11 million community hub in Leeds city centre.Westerton Walk in Leeds city centre is an extra care housing development comprising 63 one- and two-bedroom flats with care services, shared lounges and dining facilities. It has been built on a vacant Leeds City Council-owned site and has createda dynamic community hub.

The ChallengeThe Kings Hill development, phase 3, is comprised of 132 new units ranging in scale from two-bedroomed apartments to five bedroomed houses, close to the village of West Malling, in Kent. The wider Kings Hill area is a mixed-use development of over 2,000 homes, commercial and retail space. It is situated on the site of the former RAF Kings Hill airfield, which has been developed over the last 25 years, and is noted for its rich, landscape-led design.The SolutionA more formal, urban design, the scheme provides a departure from earlier phases of Kings Hill by adopting a more contemporary architectural language, albeit one that still fits comfortably within its context.Extensive analysis of the conservation area in the nearby West Malling was undertaken and a contemporary interpretation of the predominantly brick Georgian architecture was proposed, with large windows and crisp minimal detailing, which was lifted and invigorated by extensive brick detailing referencing that found in the local vernacular.The brick chosen to complement the development’s architecture was Cathedral Cream, a buff, stock thrown brick from Forterra’s Ecostock range.The BenefitsThe choice of Cathedral Cream helped to provide a contemporary architectural language that fits comfortably within its context.

Secondary glazing manufactured and installed by Granada Glazing was specified to provide modern levels of comfort for guests at a new Premier Inn built on a Grade II listed former hotel site in Llandudno town centre.The £12m redevelopment of the former Tudno Castle Hotel site comprises a 90-bedroom Premier Inn hotel, one restaurant and three retail/restaurant units and a gym/business unit. It opened in Spring 2022 following a protracted planning process and delays.

Cwt-y-Bugail roof slates feature on a £5 million new-build private house. Professional landscaper Claire Merriman commissioned an architect to design the latest project in her burgeoning property development portfolio. When they proposed Welsh Slate for the roof of the new five-bedroom, five-bathroom private house in five acres of stunning countryside in Surrey, she was happy to acquiesce but wanted to compare the British product with its Chinese and Spanish equivalents.

Regupol studwork isolating strips helped prevent flanking sound between suites at the new Hard Days Night hotel in Liverpool.The ChallengeWhen a suitable site was finally found for Hard Days Night, the eagerly anticipated Beatles themed hotel in Liverpool, an ambitious two-year development plan was put in place to convert the historic listed building into a prestigious four star hotel.Extensive alterations to the internal area of the building created 110 guest bedrooms, which included two exclusive Lennon and McCartney suites, bars, restaurants and function rooms as well as a wedding chapel.Designed to create a unique environment with a high quality feel, it was essential that Hard Days Night lived up to the expectations of the many visitors it would welcome. Part of this meant ensuring that bedrooms were adequately soundproofed, to ensure guests were not disturbed.As with many refurbishment projects, the floor construction was timber, which left Hornport Construction, the main contractors on the project, tasked with finding a compatible acoustic treatment that would help prevent sound transfer between bedrooms.The SolutionAlthough internal wall isolation was the specified acoustic treatment, Hornport Construction was able to make the final purchasing decision as to which products would be used. After consultation with CMS Acoustic Solutions, Regupol studwork isolating strips were identified as the most cost effective solution to deliver the required acoustic performance.Manufactured from recycled polyurethane (PUR) foam, Regupol studwork isolating strips are supplied at a standard thickness of 6mm, and widths to suit specific development requirements. Sitting beneath all types of timber partitions, the studwork strips reduce structure borne noise by absorbing sound and de-coupling the connection between floor and wall constructions.Resistant to ageing and deformation, Regupol studwork isolating strips offer long-term performance and will not collapse under high point loads.Available exclusively in the UK through CMS Acoustic Solutions, Regupol studwork isolating strips are supplied with comprehensive installation guidelines, making it simple for contractors to install independently on site. Easily laid, the Regupol material is bonded straight to the subfloor, with the partition erected directly on top.The ResultAt the Hard Days Night Hotel, Regupol studwork isolating strips were used to isolate the party walls separating the corridors and bedrooms. Designed specifically for use with timber, Regupol studwork isolating strips offered the ideal solution to isolate a party wall sitting on an existing timber floor.Gerry Abraham, site manager, Hornport Construction, concludes: “The Hard Days Night is a four star hotel, so high acoustic standards were imperative. We initially looked at timber sole plates with pre-fitted isolating strips, but this was quite an expensive route. We consulted CMS Acoustics who were able to provide a cost effective and high performing alternative with the Regupol studwork isolating strip – which was just as quick and easy to use.”
