The UK’s first Palm Restaurant opened in Belgravia, London. Specialists in interior refurbishment, Fileturn Contractors fitted 5 of Howe Green’s 5000 Series floor access covers and one of its Visedge covers. The covers were selected to provide easy access to essential building services including plumbing and electrics. The 5000 Series covers were used in the restaurant’s signature hardwood floor of the lower level private dining area while the Visedge was perfect for the flexible flooring in the basement. Excelling in cleanliness, hygiene and durability, the covers are perfect for commercial applications.

The Ashmolean Museum at the University of Oxford underwent a £61 million renovation scheme to meet the needs of modern institutions. BAM Construction specified a number of Howe Green’s 7500 Series Medium Floor Access Covers to provide high performance and discrete access to data cabling concealed beneath flooring in the museum. Installed in internal areas, the covers are capable of tolerating heavy pedestrian traffic and were designed to be infilled with a floor finish to match the surrounding area. The covers were manufactured in stainless steel to resist rust and corrosion and double sealed for optimal hygiene.

Improving accessibility has always been a recurring theme in the specification of Neaco’s products and so it proved again when the company’s balustrade systems were called into service for entrance ramps at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service’s new cutting-edge Hull Central Fire Station. Jefferson Sheard Architects sought to design an accessible and welcoming facility to serve the local community. Neaco’s contribution was integral to this objective with aluminium handrails and balustrade to steps and two extensive ramps at the main entrance. The system was also specified with glass infill panels for a first-floor terrace.

The Glasgow Club within Kelvin Hall hosts a state of the art Super Gym. Prospec supplied and installed the club with Prospec Marathon ‘Health Club’ lockers. Manufactured from a high density MFC body with solid grade laminate doors, the lockers integrate perfectly. Prospec Marathon lockers have been designed to be accessible to all users and incorporate contrasting coloured number plates with brail, along with a number of accessible lockers for wheelchair users. They were also provided with the state of the art RFID locking system, compatible with Wellness System®

Havas Media Group is a global network of entertainment, media and communications agencies, that has recently opened its new ‘HKX’ village in Pancras Square, London to unite twenty-four of its UK operations in a stunning new European headquarters. Given the nature of the fast-moving office environment at Havas, the combination of 14,000m2 raised access floors and 3,000m2 of Attiro magnetic engineered timber (supplied by Fieldmans, one of Kingspan’s supply and install partners) allows for the easy reconfiguration of office layouts and furniture, as well as providing instant access to the underfloor void.

Plot A7 (Phase 3) of the Slate Yard Residential development in New Bailey, Salford provides high quality living accommodation. The conversion and refurbishment of existing offices into a new interventional radiology department, consisting of; six enclosed recovery bays, a nurses’ station, and an accessible toilet.

Installer: LSA Projects Ltd and GeschwenderProduct: Geschwender Lockers and Metra Locking SystemLSA supplied almost 1000 lockers to Nottingham Emmanuel High School as part of a regeneration project in 2008. The lockers were commissioned by the school and designed by Geschwender to make the most of the space available in the curved concourse of the school.Lockers were also installed with Metra electronic locking, the school chose an RFID system which used the students existing ID cards to open their allocated locker when presented to the central access panel. Using existing cards meant that the school had minimal ongoing running costs as cards can be set-up and replaced by school staff without needing to order replacement keys or locks for students.Electronic locking also makes locker allocation and re-allocation easy and straightforward, master computers are managed by the school allowing remote access to lockers for changing user access settings and opening individual lockers without the key card if required.

Bespoke Access Structure | Case StudyThis two-level access structure with staircases, cladding, edge protection handrailing and anti-slip grating flooring was designed by Dura Composites in conjunction with our client ENGIE Fabricom UK, who provide engineering and construction services to sectors including renewables, oil and gas, power, chemical and energy from waste.With the ability to supply both composite timber cladding for the containers and all the required GRP elements for the project, Orsted chose to work with Dura Composites. Although steel had previously been considered, the rising cost of steel versus GRP and its tendency to corrode in coastal environments made composite materials a far more durable and cost-effective option.The resulting access structure is safe, looks attractive and is non-conductive and non-corrosive. With a long design life and 25 year warranty, the GRP components are part of the latest d² range from Dura Composites which offer safer, stronger, faster and proven properties.

Essential for people who can’t use the stairs, this hydraulic lift enables access for all to two storeys of high-octane facilities, designed to push fitness levels to the max. The Midilift SL can fit where standard passenger lifts can’t – next to the turned metal staircase in this case, with both freestanding structures sharing the same ceiling aperture to the first floor.

Over 40 of Howe Green’s 7500 Series Medium Duty Stainless Steel Access Covers were installed at The Nottingham Hub as part of the station's comprehensive enhancement project. Flooring specialists DMC Contracts Ltd required a network of access points within the station. They wanted to ensure that essential underfloor drainage, mechanical and electrical services could be reached quickly and easily. The 7500 Series specially designed recessed lids enabled the panels to be tiled with Quiligotti Terrazzo floor tiles. The result - an uninterrupted and continuous surface in the station's south concourse and Grade II listed porte-cochère.

Howe Green’s Visedge Series Flexible Floor Access Covers were specified for a refurbishment project in the refectory at the University of Surrey by main contractor, Roberts Building Services Ltd and installed by Progressive Floor Surfaces . The Visedge covers replaced frames which were so heavy and cumbersome that they had previously taken four people to remove whenever maintenance of the services concealed beneath the flooring was required. The new covers offer a tough, lightweight, non-rusting access solution. In the event of any maintenance to underfloor services, the covers can be removed safely and easily with the lifting keys

A housing development in Southminster has benefitted from having an access road installed with machine lay block paving to deliver a speedy and high quality finish in outstanding time. The access road was only 3m wide and by laying the blocks by hand, there would have been only enough room for two operatives to work side by side. This meant the entire 83m stretch of road would have taken three days to complete and would have delayed follow-on trades so the road surface needed to be completed quickly. Back in 2016, the St Mary Magdalene C of E School were in need of a major perimeter demarcation for their 2 hectares of land, MUGA pitches, access control and bespoke playground fencing to prevent unauthorised access onto their premises. The Exempla Fencing System and the Dulok-Lite Twin Wire System were selected for perimeter demaraction whilst Rotop Fencing and Dulok Sport were chosen the the specific MUGA pitches in question. All of which were supplied with matching LockMaster Swing Gates to control ingress and egress onto the property in order to keep students, staff and visitors safe.

This project had incredibly restricted access, where the client wanted a green roof on an existing bitumen rooftop overlooked by hotel rooms. The M-Trays® had to be transported on a trolley through the hotel kitchens. They were winched onto the roof itself using a genie lift and slotted into position in a matter of hours. Trying to construct a roll-out green roof was impossible, given the restricted access. Installation was fast and effective, taking only a day and giving an instant green roof. M-Tray® dramatically improved the view from the rooms and improved the guests’ experience.

Green Park Station provides access to the Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria Lines. The £60 million refurbishment to achieve step-free access included a copper canopy, a Portland stone entrance and a ramp from the ticket hall into the Park featuring green wall screening. Lang+Fulton designed and supplied 300sqm of panels to clad the raked inner facade of both retaining walls and the tapered wall-heads, which would support the green wall planting. The panels were made to custom sizes from Terra-34 grating and fixed with varying lengths of bracket to accommodate the stepped areas in the walls.

Ongoing replacement of old doorsThe challenge Hart were consulted to help reduce vermin access mainly from pigeons, seagulls and geese attracted by the feed/agricultural nature of the production process. The doors needed to be capable of thousands of operations in dusty conditions allowing large vehicles fast access to the facilities. The solution With over 30 Hart doors installed across six production facilities, the latest contract replaced existing roller shutters, which remain open all day, with seven Speedor Storms, one Speedor Super and one fast action roller shutter. The emphasis was on speed of open/close cycles to significantly reduce the vermin access and improve energy efficiency. The success The investment by Cargill is also part of a drive to improve energy efficiency by 5% and to maintain a better working environment and temperatures within the building as well as preventing unauthorised access to different areas of the plant. The Review:“I wanted to say I was really pleased with the job David and guys have done. Over 400 of Howe Green’s Access Covers have been supplied to Tier 1 contractors working on Europe’s largest construction project – Crossrail. Over 60 of Howe Green’s 7500 Series Multipart Floor Access Covers were supplied specifically for Tottenham Court Road Station. The large 4 part units were precision made to order to ensure they would be a perfect fit, avoiding slips and trips in such a highly trafficked and challenging environment. The covers have been infilled with granite to match the surrounding area and supplied with barrel lifting points, with just the securing bolt and barrel edge visible.

Graves Health and Sports in Sheffield is a state of the art centre providing users with swimming, studio, gym, tennis, gymnastics and trampolining facilities. Prospec Marathon Conform Changing cubicles in Solid Grade Laminate and Cabrillant 700 Shower Cubicles, featuring Toughened and Laminated glass offer a more contemporary feel to the public change area. Prospec Marathon Laminate Wet lockers, with coin return locks and bespoke glass end panels, add an additional element complementing the quality feel of this first class centre. A range of accessible lockers are installed throughout the facility to ensure all users have complete access.

Trief Cadet GST1A were used across Vale Road bridge which connects the Rhyl to its rail station. Cadet offered a unique solution to protect the Victorian bridge structure without compromising the existing access across the bridge. Vale Road bridge had many design aspects which included protecting the structure from the rigours of passing traffic, without reducing the width of the carriageway available for traffic to pass and maintaining access for pedestrians. This month, Falco began a new roll-out of the UK’s leading smart bike hangar design with integrated mobile app access for Brighton & Hove City Council, adding a further 40 hangars across the city.The first 100 FalcoPod bike hangars have already been installed, providing 600 cyclists across the city with a secure dedicated cycle parking space, directly accessible from their own smartphone.The new roll-out of 40 hangars will increase capacity by a further 200 cyclists, providing a city wide network of 800 secure cycle parking spaces. Each futuristic bike hangar - the first of its kind in the UK, provides Brighton residents with quick and easy accessibility via the users smartphone. The user simply downloads the app, registers for a space, is granted accessibility via the back office and then can access their chosen hangar within seconds. Other new additions to the leisure centre include a new café and creche as well as improvements to general access and the main sports hall and ice rink.The improvements achieved by Chelmsford City Council and Pick Everard architects aimed to make the space more accessible for disabled guests. The new swimming pool facility has a submersible entry platform and pool pod for wheelchair users as well as an access hoist for the learner pool. With the introduction of new changing places units and additional accessible wet and dry changing rooms the site is geared towards making the experience of their disabled guests as easy as possible with the support of Chelmsford Access Group.LSA are proud to have worked with Riverside Ice and Leisure since 2006 when we first supplied some lockers and cubicles to changing rooms. Over the next 12 years we kept in touch with the leisure centre, adding more Geschwender cubicles and lockers to the site as well as completing minor repairs and supplying a few replacement keys and locks.In 2018 we were thrilled when Riverside and the architects at Pick Everard contacted us to be part of the new major refit project. In addition to restyling the space with a more modern colour scheme and accessories we were able to design the changing room from the ground up.
