A fleet change of 220 washroom basins for Cross Country required a bespoke. Franke designed and manufactured a bespoke solution specifically for the project. The final design was the Rondo stainless steel bowl inset into a Miranit resin-bonded worktop in their choice of colour. Miranit combines sturdiness and resilience with outstanding moulding capabilities and has been fire test specifically for use on trains and fully certified to Category 2. Andy Hawker, Managing Director of TBM Group commented “With Franke's 230 years manufacturing expertise the products have the potential to improve passenger experience no end.”

We worked closely with the architectural team to create a bespoke washroom design as part of this refurbishment project. The washrooms feature a full height, fully integrated wall cladding system including wall mounted mirrors with concealed soap and towel dispensers. Our Concerto integrated duct panels were faced with anodised aluminium to provide an exceptionally durable surface. We also installed glass partitions and our full height Alto Kristalla glass toilet cubicles, each manufactured with acid etch mirror to the face. Highly durable Corian was used for the vanities.

The stadium’s vast size and increased capacity required washrooms capable of withstanding large volumes of people that will be using the facilities during a variety of events throughout the year, including everything from conferences to sports fixtures. For this project, Dolphin Solutions supplied its BC925 Mini Jumbo Toilet Roll Dispensers and BC924SS Soap Dispensers, as the site needed something that was durable. The lockable nature and stainless steel exterior of these products makes the dispensers vandal resistant and easy to replenish, whilst the non-drip, push-action soap pump prevents the build up of soap on the vanity.

Fairfield High School has been a high achieving, fast evolving school for the last 200 years. Now a specialist science college, Fairfield continues to pride itself on providing a high quality education for 980 girls. The quality of the school is evident in the Ofsted report and throughout the buildings. The new school toilet cubicles and washrooms supplied by Bushboard reflect this quality and provide an area the students were invited to help create and can be proud of. Bushboard’s ready-plumbed ducting and Tough Stuff cubicles and vanities were chosen for Fairfield in the colours Arctic and Fern.

State of the art changing rooms supplied with Fully Framed Cubicles, Wet area Lockers and Cubicles. A mix of Helmsman System 2000 lockers and Glass Lockers situated together totally compliment each other with walnut formica and luscious lime coloured glass doors. These were supplied along with matching vanity shelving and GRP bench seating. The colouring of the Glass shower cubicles and glass toilet cubicles was carefully chosen in a clear interlayer and clear panel glass to bring the overall look of the changing rooms together. This project oozes luxury and quality on all fronts.

A busy dental surgery, located near Newgate Street in the City of London, has been upgraded to include made-to-measure stainless steel worktops by GEC Anderson.By eliminating unnecessary joins and junctions, a feeling of simplicity has been introduced into the compact surgery space. The sinks are seamlessly integrated within worktops and upstands where worktops meet wallls were included for a professional, hygienic and robust solution to worksurface requirements.

The old kitchen had outward opening oven doors which were impractical for Lucille to use.Zoe Paye of OT Healthcare, the family’s Occupational Therapist, provides support to the family and oversaw the design process for the transformation of their bungalow. She suggested Adam Thomas, accessible design consultant, of the Adam Thomas Consultancy and Tara Neil Kitchen Retailer.The Design SolutionsAs part of an early design consultation, a few essential yet practical accessible kitchen features were agreed:Integrated Slide&Hide® ovens positioned at a 90-degree angle to a lowered height fixed worktop to makes it easier, and safer, for Lucille to transfer dishes to and from the oven.A tall larder with i-move pull-down baskets and pull-out drawers, providing quick and easy access to dried food and tins.Various work surface space to make the kitchen ideal for all the family; a standard worktop with sink, a lowered height worktop, an electric rise-and-fall worktop with induction hob and sink.   Additional design features:Pull-out crockery and pan drawers, so the contents are easy to access and visible at a glance. Plenty of manoeuvring space incorporated into the layout to ensure a fit-for-purpose space to support Lucille’s mobility requirements. Le Mans pull-outs in the corner base cabinets, ideal for storing and accessing items in hard to reach corners. A waterfall edge finish to the electric rise-and-fall worktop, to avoid accidental spillages onto Lucille. Flip sockets set within the rise-and-fall work surface to allow easy reach for Lucille. Two sinks, one at a standard height near the dishwasher and the other, a prep sink set within the rise-and-fall work surface providing essential convenience for all the family. Recycling and waste bins integrated into cabinetry, accessible to the whole family.  Products featured: Freedom Urban kitchen in Indigo colourway with chrome handles. Mix of worktop materials in Quartzite and Corian in pale grey and white.Appliances: single bowl sinks, integrated hide and slide ovens, microwave and induction hob, hot tap, integrated fridge-freezer & dishwasher, feature lighting and flip sockets.The Freedom brand is designed in collaboration with the Adam Thomas Consultancy. A series of stainless steel worktops were specified within classrooms of this Mid-Glamorgan Primary School.A clean, neat and highly resilient result was achieved through the use of continuous worktops, with integrated sinks. Lipped edges (edge 3) were included to prevent spillage and to prevent items rolling-off the worktop onto the floor. Integral upstands were specified to the junctions between the worktop and walls, providing a highly practical and lasting result. 

A man with a prosthetic limb faced difficulties in his small, impractical bathroom after a leg injury. Collaborating with an Occupational Therapist, Care Spaces redesigned the space, ensuring approval from both the therapist and the user. They revamped the bathroom into a functional wet room, addressing accessibility issues. Key features included a level-access shower, shower seat, non-slip flooring, safety grab rails, an accessible toilet, and basin. The transformed space now meets the user's needs, enabling independent living. Notably, the adaptation benefits the user's son, who has a disability, ensuring a lasting solution for the family.

Washroom designed, manufactured and installed new washrooms and fitted out the reception area for the new Trampoline and Play Park at Sutton Sports Village. The team specified a vivid shade of orange throughout the centre including on the Forte SGL cubicles, Concerto SGL duct panels, SGL vanities and HPL reception desk. With accessibility a key consideration, Washroom installed two different sized washroom cubicles; one with half-height doors for younger children, disabled toilets with outwards opening doors and ensured the pilasters provided a colour contrast to the cubicle doors to assist any partially sighted visitors to the centre.

Washroom delivered new washroom areas on all levels of this refurbished office building - drawing on a range of high-tech man-made materials including lightweight cast concrete to create a unique, contemporary space which hints at the industrial history of the building. Its full height Alto FENIX toilet cubicles were specified in a crisp white colour to contrast with the grey and stone coloured concrete vanities. FENIX is manufactured in Italy by Arpa Industriale using the latest nano-technology to create a highly durable, tough acrylic resin surface with a host of high-performance properties.

Both the changing rooms and staff areas contain over 100 Prospec supply and installed Marathon wet use laminate lockers. Prospec Marathon lockers are designed specifically to withstand the rigours of a busy leisure centre. The installation also included other products from Prospec’s versatile Marathon range such as Marathon Conform fully framed cubicles, bespoke solid surface vanities, Cabrillant shower cubicles and both wall mounted and double island bench seating. Prospec worked closely with the specifying architects Roberts Limbrick, main contractor Pellikaan Construction, and leisure operator Places for People Leisure.

Bushboard Washrooms worked closely with Stephen Ratcliffe – Club Chairman and Project Manager to deliver a bespoke sports changing room that was in keeping with the clubs colours.Stephen chose Bushboard’s Baseline toilet cubicle range for its “robust, stylish and practical” design. Made-to-measure stainless steel worktops, by GEC Anderson, were recently specified by Munkenbeck and Partners at the highly desirable city space known as 55 Gee Street, Clerkenwell.The funky, new build, mixed-use development comprises offices, shops and six, high-end apartments. Four flats have two bedrooms, a two bedroom duplex occupies ground and basement levels whilst the 150 m penthouse has three bedrooms. Previously the site was occupied by a building belonging to Her Majesty’s Stationery Office.Outside, the distinctive street facade resembles a Jenga block game, made up of extruded airbricks, randomly assembled. The bricks allow natural cross ventilation through the wall without having to make the glass panels move.Inside, the contemporary living spaces are high tech and high quality. Concrete, wood, stainless steel and glass dominate the open, elegant and functional spaces. The continuous and expansive stainless steel worksurfaces blend-in perfectly within their neutral and effortless surroundings. Formed in one piece, the GEC Anderson custom stainless steel worktops include integral sink bowls and edge detailing. Full height splashbacks are included to alcove worktops whilst the striking penthouse kitchen includes a stainless steel island element.Stainless steel worktops and splashbacks still are often associated with only commercial kitchens. The office entertaining and tea point area for office furniture supplier, Steelcase, has benefitted from a new, single-piece, stainless steel worktop, by GEC Anderson. Incorporating two stainless steel sinks, the 4 + metre long, bespoke stainless steel worksurface blends perfectly with its sleek, modern and professional surroundings.The area is under heavy use on a daily basis as well as for evening and weekend events held at the company’s prestigious Farringdon offices.

Lee Valley Ice Centre originally opened in 1984, and before closing in 2021 welcomed over 279,000 visitors each year. With the old centre reaching the end of its operational life, it was time to design and build a brand new Ice Centre at Lee Valley Regional Park. The new centre, due to open in April 2023 will be home to 2 new ice rinks, doubling the capacity of the old centre, and inviting in new visitors as well as welcoming back those who visited before.As part of the redevelopment of Lee Valley Ice Centre, 95% of the concrete from the old centre was used in the foundations of the new centre. With this and many other environmentally friendly choices made in the construction, Lee Valley Ice Centre will become the UK’s most sustainable Ice Centre.The fully accessible centre will maximise the opportunity for sports for everyone, and with two Olympic-sized Ice Rinks, a brand-new café, gym, exercise studios and various other facilities, Lee Valley will be able to welcome up to 500,000 visitors. The range of facilities will encourage a variety of new visitors, from committed skaters, though to people stopping for a drink in the café before enjoying the green space in Lee Valley Regional Park.At Helmsman, we were pleased to be contacted by the main contractors for Lee Valley, The Buckingham Group, to supply the lockers, cubicles, vanity units and bespoke high-level cladding. We manufactured and installed 268 Bespoke Heavy Duty Laminate Lockers, with a variety of compartment configurations, and a range of different locking options.Our Heavy Duty Laminate lockers are a great option for high traffic areas, as they are more likely to withstand scratches and dents, so were a perfect choice for Lee Valley Ice Centre. The lockers also feature bespoke perforations in the doors and aluminium number plates. A selection of the lockers also have seat stands with the slats in matching laminate. A variety of locks were also used across the lockers in this project, with Ojmar Hasp locks the main choice for users to use their own padlocks, as well as Ojmar coin return locks and Lowe and Fletcher cam locks.The cubicles chosen for this project were our Front Line Cubicles with Hidden Fixings. These cubicles are tailored to suit the needs of the particular project, with bespoke sizing available. The fixings are hidden to provide a smooth surface and aesthetic finish. The cubicles were manufactured with 12mm Solid Grade Laminate from BioCarbon Laminates in colour Luna Grey, a fantastic carbon-neutral option which aligns perfectly with Lee Valley’s aim to be the first sustainable Ice Centre in the UK.As we manufacture all our products in house, and to order, we specialise in bespoke items. The project at Lee Valley Ice Centre featured bespoke high-level cladding, which our highly experienced installation team fitted on-site.Other products on this project included metal framed IPS panels, using both Luna Grey and Elegant Grey laminates from BioCarbon Laminates, and Helmsman High Pressure Laminate Vanity Units.It was great to work alongside Buckingham Group again for the Lee Valley Ice Centre project. A combination of Pendock Radius column casings and Pendock Linea pilaster linings are installed at Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital to conceal structural supports, hospital services and waste pipework.Manufactured from pre-formed ply/MDF, every bespoke casing is finished in durable and easy-to-clean high-pressure laminate (HPL), which not only resists damage but also supports hygiene regimes.In addition to concealing electrical cabling and pipework for hand washing, the casings also incorporate a range of facilities, such as wash basins, electrical power outlets, light switches and nurse call buttons, which are all mounted to the surface.

Stainless steel work tops and sinks from GEC Andersons Made-to-Measure (M2M) range have been installed in the kitchen of a newly renovated Grade II listed Georgian terrace to provide a striking and contemporary contrast to the historical setting of the property.The five storey dwelling is situated in the beautiful and unspoilt Myddleton Square in the Angel district of London. Built between 1824 and 1827, the square is named after Sir Hugh Myddelton, who was the engineer responsible for bringing a fresh water supply into the city.The sympathetic renovation work was carried out to a very high specification, incorporating as many of the original features as possible.Renovation specialists Fullers (Builders) Ltd were asked to undertake the work. Many aspects of the refurbishment project were bespoke including the new kitchen, situated in the basement, designed by Butler Hegarty Architects and created by Fullers in-house joinersGEC Andersons M2M bespoke range is not only highly flexible but also is of very high quality. It was therefore ideal for this part of the project.The brushed satin stainless steel sinktop 4374x615mm was specified, with specially sized sink and drainer area, including (500x400x200mm and 180x400x200mm) sink bowls. To complement the worktops, stainless steel splashbacks were incorporated into the design including socket cut-outs. For ease of installation, the sinktop was mounted on a waterproof substrate, sound deadened and plastic protected.Central to the kitchen is the stainless steel bridge island worktop (1482x623mm) that includes a bin-chute with a flush-fit lid, for easy rubbish disposal. The sides of the island are integral and therefore manufactured and supplied by GEC Anderson in one piece with the worktop. They include cut-outs for sockets. There is a stainless steel panel at the back of the island, against which the range cooker stands. Stainless steel plinth kick plates are included throughout the kitchen.Gary Butler of Butler Hegarty Architects said, We recommended stainless steel to our clients and it suited their aims for the kitchen. We particularly liked the all in one surface and the general crisp aesthetics which the material created against the historic setting.

The Ambient Assisted Living Lab (AAL) within Heriot-Watt University and the University of Edinburgh’s acclaimed National Robotarium, aims to revolutionise the way assisted living care in the UK is delivered in the community using robotics and AI. With its purpose-built facilities within a recreated home setting, scientists, and engineers within the AAL will collaboratively research and create robotic and smart technology solutions in its open and remote access living lab, helping improve the physical and mental wellbeing of people with assisted living needs who want to live independently.Sharing this ethos of improving people’s wellbeing through design, Pressalit has been leading the way in assisted living technologies for the bathroom and kitchen for almost fifty years. Central Scotland Police have selected DVS automatic flushvalves and wave on sensors for their new hand rinse system which have been in place since the early seventies.Due to the nature of the cells a lot of water was being wasted with each flush and hand wash. Choosing DVS flushvalves and wave on sensors for the hand rinse basins will significantly reduce their water usage. DVS flush valves and sensors have various functionalities for high security environments, including ligature resistant designs along with lock out functions to prevent any mis-use. This also prevents the system from being flooded, also minimising any potential water wastage.

Here we installed new washrooms on two levels of this Covent Garden office and created a new staff shower and changing area. The new washroom design includes our full height Alto Kristalla glass cubicles. The rebated edge design offers an attractive flush front façade together with the contrasting wood veneer-faced pilasters and back-painted glass cubicle doors. We also installed natural stone vanities as well as our Concerto integrated duct panel system and modesty screens, both faced in toughened, back-painted glass. The shower and changing area features our exceptionally durable Forza lockers and matching benching.

Within London’s sought-after area of Victoria is situated the architecturally cutting edge commercial and residential development, Howick Place.This 143,000sq ft. of Grade A office space and 23 luxury apartments is a flagship development by joint developers Doughty Hanson & Co and Terrace Hill Group PLC. The building is modern, stylish and full of light due to its impressive floor to ceiling windows delivering a perfect working space for the luxury brands it has already attracted. Responsible for the impressive design were Rolfe Judd Architects. Not only did they want to create an exterior that that was visually stunning but also an interior that show modern design at its best.This inspirational working environment had to make an immediate impact with potential occupant’s right from the moment they step in to the expansive reception area to rinsing their hands in the washrooms. To help achieve this Rolfe Judd appointed Sylan to supply and install their modern and luxurious washroom products so the building represented the highest quality craftsmanship no matter where you are in the building.When discussing the importance of a quality washroom fit out project architect Andrew Wall said: “Our clients are becoming increasingly concerned with the quality of their washroom facilities. More and more people are cycling to work in the city and so we needed washroom and changing areas that met our client’s high standards”.Sylan's Real Wood Veneer toilet cubicles were specified for the washrooms. With 44mm Real Wood Veneer doors and totally invisible fixings, Sylan was the perfect choice for this project given that quality was such an important factor:“We were very impressed with the Sylan system. The first phase of the Middlewood Locks project in Manchester by developer Scarborough International Properties features Kawneer’s AA®100 zone-drained curtain walling, AA®130 brise soleil and AA®720 external doors on the ground floors of six blocks of apartments around three large basins of the Manchester, Bolton and Bury canals.The AA®130 brise soleil has also been used between external balconies as privacy screens and was complemented by Kawneer’s AA®3572 lift/slide doors and AA®720 thermally-superior side-hung casement windows which feature on the first floor upwards of the seven-storey blocks.

When they wanted to add some additional space for creative collaboration that matched the décor of their meeting rooms they turned to ESCREO. The idea of the wall is to act both as a place for expression but also as a strong design element, something that the clear whiteboard paint was perfect for.

Leading stainless steel specialist, GEC Anderson limited, have released details of an exciting new ‘wet zone’ concept. Available now, the new wet zone option enables specifiers to include a pressed recess anywhere within the stainless steel worktop area. Typically, the recess would be formed around sink bowl(s) but it can also be used to create lowered areas for other applications. For example, to locate chopping boards or to act as a general catchment area. The pressed recess detail is 3mm deep and can be formed in any size and position. It has a minimum radius of 10mm.
