The Castle Basin area of Enniskillen in Northern Ireland was transformed with a £1.7 million investment, funded by the Department for Social Development and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council. Tobermore’s Fusion block paving and Mayfair Flags were used to create a contemporary look for the tranquil walking route.

Located in East London, on a water gateway between the River Thames and over 2,000 miles of navigable canals, the six-building Limehouse Basin development comprised of a white EPS insulation board that was fixed to horizontal PVC rails that created a drained cavity between the insulated façade system and the substrate.Due to strict regulations introduced in December 2018 following the Grenfell tragedy, which states any building exceeding 18 metres in height must have walls comprised of non-combustible materials, this building was deemed non-compliant, unsafe, and not fit-for-purpose.Development owners Beckford, supported by the Building Safety Fund (BSF), required an expert team to execute the removal of the existing EWI and replace it with an appropriate alternative, without disrupting the unique aesthetic of the building.The combination of K Systems and Retrofit UK, two companies renowned for their expertise, quality of service, and superiority in the market, was an obvious choice for Beckfords.We have a good portfolio of BSF projects to date, and Limehouse Basin is another great example of how our team along with one of our approved installers can help make a building fit for purpose, whilst overcoming numerous challenges along the way. Unrivalled expertise and professional delivery are apparent in every groove and corner of this refurbishment.Our ServiceTogether with Approved Installer Retrofit UK, K Systems continued works despite Covid restrictions (adhering to Government guidelines) to deliver the Limehouse Basin project within the agreed timeframe and with minimal disruption to residents as requested by the client.Removal of the existing EWI system took place in rotation with the installation of the new system, and a robust programme was put into place by the contractor to ensure the building was not exposed to the elements for long periods of time, ensuring the residents were kept as comfortable as possible especially during the winter months. Decanting of the residents did not take place, so we worked alongside all parties to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the residents were prioritised during the works.Due to the nature of this project, technical monitoring from the K Systems team was increased, and weekly visits were planned along with a reactive approach to any on-site issues that arose from a technical perspective. Our technical teams actioned regular quality assessments and maintained open communication with all stakeholders.The result – an industry-leading insulated façade solution that fulfilled Beckfords’ criteria and delivered an outstanding architectural design and structure, fully compliant with fire regulations and boasting a better U-value which translates to better living conditions for the residents.Technical Project DetailsThe key objective for the Limehouse Basin project was to remove the non-compliant EWI system and replace it with a non-combustible system to meet current building regulations.Our team insist on being involved from the very concept of any BSF project to ensure an accurate specification could be developed and allow any initial underlying issues to be identified and rectified swiftly. Therefore, our Technical Team witnessed the removal of the existing system and inspected the substrate thoroughly.After extensive scoping, the K Systems M, mineral wool insulation, system with a silicone render finish was chosen as the preferred option, meeting the demands and needs of the client and current building regulations. This system provides high levels of fire resistance and non-combustibility (an A2-s1, d0) bringing it in line with mandatory Government requirements for buildings over 18m tall.With superb acoustic qualities and excellent environmental properties, the M System didn’t just tick the fire resistance box. The thermal performance of the building was significantly enhanced, with a U-value of 0.30W/m².k being achieved.The shape of the buildings were complex, with numerous curved areas of various facades. This meant the finish required an expert eye and a skilled hand to deliver seamlessly. Both K Systems and Retrofit are renowned for their expertise and superiority in the market, and therefore such challenges were overcome, and high standards of workmanship delivered.Another very challenging aspect of the build was the replication of the rainscreen cladding to the front of the buildings. This detail was successfully created by using tape joints, stop beads, and black silicone mastic to create a shadow gap – further testament to the expert capabilities of our team. This particular finish not only delivered the desired aesthetic but delivered an additional benefit of cost savings for the client.We worked closely with Retrofit UK throughout the duration of the refurb and as a result the Limehouse Basin buildings have a contemporary finish and attractive aesthetic worthy of the projects postcode, and one we are confident existing residents welcomed and potential residents appreciated.

Architectural glazing systems by Kawneer were specified for their “robustness and quality” for two linked 16-storey apartment blocks on the last plot to be developed in one of Britain’s fastest-growing property hot spots - the £37 million BTR (Build To Rent) towers at Erie Basin in Salford Quays, Manchester, a stone’s throw from MediaCityUK.Kawneer’s AA®100 curtain walling features as strip curtain wall to copper-coloured rainscreen areas of the towers at Erie Basin. In addition, AA®110 curtain walling features on link bridges and as floor-to-ceiling screens facing the water. While the AA®100 system uses 50mm sightlines, the AA®110 system uses 65mm but both in this case were zone-drained. They are complemented by AA®541 open-out casement window inserts and AA®720 ultra thermally-efficient entrance doors.The Kawneer systems were installed over eight months by a team of up to 35 from approved specialist sub-contractor FK Group for main contractor GRAHAM and client Glenbrook, the privately-owned property development and investment company, who acquired the site from the Peel Group.The prominent dockside development is GRAHAM’s second project with Glenbrook, with work also underway on another £27 million BTR project in Ellesmere Street, Castlefield, Manchester, which also features Kawneer systems.

Designed by Foster and Partners and crafted by Unique Fabrications, these striking washrooms feature Corian® Vanity units where full-height backsplash panels in Glacier White Corian® flow seamlessly to the basins in matching Glacier White Corian®. Throughout the washroom project, a total of 270 basins were individually CNC cut, thermoformed and crafted by hand.

The Project HMP & YOI Doncaster houses up to 1,145 Category B inmates. Serco, who have been operating the prison since 2004, noticed that a large number of in cell WC pans and basins were being damaged, they enlisted the help of TYDE.Our specialists worked with Serco's Facility Management Team to develop bespoke Dudley Resan WC backplates, basins and basin brackets. The solution delivered has proven to be exceptionally hard-wearing whilst saving both time and money.HMP & YOI Doncaster cells were previously fitted with Armitage Shanks Portland WC pans and ceramic basins plus Mazak basin brackets. Despite the brackets being tested to 150Kg and breaking at around 200Kg, they were coupled with the expectedly fragile ceramic basins and were unable to withstand the heavy treatment to which they were being exposed. The decision was therefore taken to replace Portland WC pans with Resan models. The prison walls are robustly constructed from concrete so any replacement products needed to be easily retrofittable. In addition, when ceramic sanitaryware shatters, the resulting fragments are extremely sharp and present an obvious and significant security risk. Under the terms of the management contract, Serco loses revenue of around £300 for every night that a cell is left out of service whilst broken sanitaryware is being replaced.Our team began by talking to Serco about the breakages and the resulting operational problems. Site visits were also completed as part of the process in order to better understand the project requirements. The first problem to be addressed was the weakness of the basins and support brackets. Serco confirmed that the previously specified Portland basin had been discontinued by Armitage Shanks.In order to provide a solution, TYDE’s design team exploited state-of-the-art CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping capabilities to configure an alternative. Moulds were then produced along with a sample basin for approval. The Thomas Dudley Group includes an award-winning engineering foundry. Here, the team set about developing a new bracket to support the newly designed basin. Engineered using an exceptionally strong grade of ductile iron, this provided far greater durability than the old Mazak bracket. Whilst a WC pan from the existing Resan range provided a compatible replacement for the Portland ceramic pans, a bespoke stainless steel backplate was needed in order to comply with the installation requirements approved by Serco. A recent upgrade to ward kitchens included the provision of stainless steel worktops, basins and base cabinets, by stainless steel specialist, GEC Anderson Limited.In a phased upgrade program, the Foundation Trust approached GEC Anderson directly to agree detailing, specifications and costings for the various ward kitchens. The scope of work included bespoke worktops, sinktops, base cabinets and wall-hung wash basins.The results are professional, hygienic and durable kitchens that will stand the test of time for the Trust.

NOMA is a new breed of mixed-use development in the centre of Manchester, a multi-phase scheme to create a 20-acre neighbourhood with a strong sense of community, built to world-class sustainability standards. For the public and accessible toilets in this building on the NOMA commons, architects Simpson Haugh implemented a Superloo layout interspersed with DDA-compliant cubicles. The Splash Lab was privileged to work with Simpson Haugh closely over many years to bring this vision to life with taps and accessories from our Radius Collection in a bronze PVD finish, as well as a Monolith DDA basin. Our comprehensive support for superloo designs helped achieve an efficient installation that doesn’t sacrifice clean, minimalist design. The contemporary bronze finish of the fittings provides a rich contrast with the white panelling and basin to create a washroom that looks both luxurious and streamlined.

This case study highlights an entire ward refurbishment that was completed using BioPod’s IPS at a prominent Yorkshire based NHS Trust. Units included wash hand basins, WC and WHB for disabled toilets, IPS to cubicles and full wall IPS to consultation rooms.

A functional, child-friendly washroom design featuring Genesis toilet cubicles was created for Rainbow Nurser. The nursery opted for Venesta’s Genesis toilet cubicles, a popular choice for early education settings due to it's versatility and many customisable features including low-level doors and curved partitions. The toilet cubicles were specified in High Pressure Laminate (HPL) making them ideal for nursery usage, allowing for easy cleaning and simple maintenance, meaning they really will stand the test of time.For cost savings and reduced installation times, our Vepps pre-plumbed panelling system was specified. In addition, low level vanity units were installed featuring semi-recessed basins. The redevelopment of Yatala Prison in South Australia is supporting the advancement of the state’s public prison structure, reinforcing the security and reducing the rate of offending. Located on the Isle of Dogs peninsula on the Thames in London’s East End, two residential towers of 31 and 45 floors, respectively, are among the tallest buildings in the British capital and the tallest residential buildings in Europe. The clarity of the external appearance, which transmits both its quadratic shape and the uniform facade design with reflected glass, was replicated on the interior by interior designers. Cubic elements, such as the classic Memento wash basin from Villeroy & Boch, pick up on the predominant architectural language.

International bathroom experts Villeroy & Boch have been commissioned by Hotel La Tour, Birmingham to remodel all of their en-suites and public wash-rooms. Working with pHp Architects and interior design Adrian Coleman, Villeroy & Boch have updated the 4* hotel with sleek wall-hung sanitaryware and contemporary surface mounted basins; choosing pieces from their Loop & Friends, Momento, Squaro and Subway collections. In total 550 pieces were installed, completing 174 bathrooms in the hotel.

The Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust is looking to improve its Adult Mental Health Inpatient services and Dart Valley Systems provided products for its new Sherwood Oaks unit. A fleet change of 220 washroom basins for Cross Country required a bespoke. Franke designed and manufactured a bespoke solution specifically for the project. The final design was the Rondo stainless steel bowl inset into a Miranit resin-bonded worktop in their choice of colour. Miranit combines sturdiness and resilience with outstanding moulding capabilities and has been fire test specifically for use on trains and fully certified to Category 2. A man with a prosthetic limb faced difficulties in his small, impractical bathroom after a leg injury. Collaborating with an Occupational Therapist, Care Spaces redesigned the space, ensuring approval from both the therapist and the user. They revamped the bathroom into a functional wet room, addressing accessibility issues. Key features included a level-access shower, shower seat, non-slip flooring, safety grab rails, an accessible toilet, and basin. The transformed space now meets the user's needs, enabling independent living. Notably, the adaptation benefits the user's son, who has a disability, ensuring a lasting solution for the family.

A striking run of washroom superloos in an unusual dark oak and bronze design to complement the Art Deco building. The full height Alto toilet cubicles were finished using engineered oak in a natural fumed oak veneer with 20 per cent sheen lacquer for a shiny finish that is also hardwearing and easy to clean without concealing the natural grain of the wood. Each cubicle includes its own bespoke vanity unit with square countertop basins set on a floating shelf and were completed with veneered vanity under panels and wall panels stained to match the toilet cubicle doors.

The Best Western Hotel, located in Göttingen, Germany has undergone a major redevelopment of their hotel rooms and washroom facilities. Franke were thrilled to be chosen to provide products from their composite portfolio, including 100 bespoke Miranit Ronda basins. A combination of Pendock Radius column casings and Pendock Linea pilaster linings are installed at Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital to conceal structural supports, hospital services and waste pipework.Manufactured from pre-formed ply/MDF, every bespoke casing is finished in durable and easy-to-clean high-pressure laminate (HPL), which not only resists damage but also supports hygiene regimes.In addition to concealing electrical cabling and pipework for hand washing, the casings also incorporate a range of facilities, such as wash basins, electrical power outlets, light switches and nurse call buttons, which are all mounted to the surface.

London Gatwick is the second largest airport in the UK.System M was recommended for its stylish design and durability to withstand the heavy footfall. It also has an emergency feature to access the toilet cubicles in less than 30 seconds. This patented system enables normally inward opening doors to be opened outwards, without having to break components or lift off the pilasters or doors.Integrated hand basin modules were specified for easy access for maintenance staff and a streamlined experience for users. Washroom created the distinctive washrooms on four levels plus the new staff shower and changing area in the basement, all designed with the industrial heritage of the building in mind. Washroom manufactured and installed the vanity units which comprise a Corian worktop, individual countertop basins and inset waste bins set on a custom-made black metal frame. Washoom's full height Alto toilet cubicles were manufactured with a high pressure laminate finish in white, which together with its black high pressure laminate Concerto integrated duct panel system behind the WCs and urinals, creates a contemporary monochrome effect.

We delivered a bespoke washroom design, with a stylish monochrome colour scheme for a co-working office space in the City. The bespoke Corian slab-style vanity tops with square counter top basins, supported on custom-made metal leg frame forms a key part of the contemporary design. The multi-functional mirror units above the vanities also conceal hand dryers and soap units. The same dark grey HPL laminate was used to face our full height Alto toilet cubicle doors, our Concerto integrated duct panels and modesty screens. We also installed our Forza Lockers to each floor for staff.

Jane Valentine’s brief for this project was to create a contemporary bathroom whilst honouring the original elements of a Victorian-style home built in 1867.Beautiful white walls act as the perfect canvas for striking matt black tapware and a black framed shower screen. The first phase of the Middlewood Locks project in Manchester by developer Scarborough International Properties features Kawneer’s AA®100 zone-drained curtain walling, AA®130 brise soleil and AA®720 external doors on the ground floors of six blocks of apartments around three large basins of the Manchester, Bolton and Bury canals.The AA®130 brise soleil has also been used between external balconies as privacy screens and was complemented by Kawneer’s AA®3572 lift/slide doors and AA®720 thermally-superior side-hung casement windows which feature on the first floor upwards of the seven-storey blocks.
