Cast Iron Rainwater and Drain Outlet Cowl

Cast Iron Rainwater and Drain Outlet Cowl

Cast Iron Air Brick Company

Before there was an open, 4" (100mm) diameter pipe that drained water from the back of this Devon farm house into the yard. Apart from an open pipe, which never looks good on a listed building, when it rained heavily there was water gushing out across the road causing havoc to any cars parked nearby. With the installation of the cast iron cowled conservation vent now the water is deflected downwards and the opening is no longer open to the elements and in eye line. With a choice of 100mm or 125mm spigots this cowled vent has many uses

Broxap Ltd

Travel to London Luton Airport (LLA) is being made easier, faster and greener with the development of the DART people mover. And the final journey between shuttle stop and airport terminal is via a covered walkway designed, manufactured and installed by Broxap. The walkway complements a series of canopies we created for the airport in 2019 as part of a bus and coach station upgrade.Together the DART (Direct-Air-Rail-Transit) system and bus services are designed to encourage more people to leave their cars behind when flying from LLA as well as offer sustainable travel options to employees. The 150-metre bespoke walkway guiding passengers to the terminal from the DART station is based on Broxap’s flagship ‘Newcastle’ design. The freestanding walkway features clear multi-wall polycarbonate cladding and is an essential element in the passenger journey, forming the final connection between ground transportation and the boarding of aircraft.A bespoke Hartcliffe Cantilever Shelter has also been made for the DART building to form a covered entrance area.Testing of the shuttle system is now underway with an announcement on its opening due in early 2023.

Jotun A/S

Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC) is set to be the largest airport terminal under one roof. The airport is spread over a vast area of 34,4 km2, and this development will dramatically increase passenger capacity to over 30 million. Terminal spaces of this size have to withstand high temperatures in the event of fire, and with major foot traffic, floor coverings and walls must be hard-wearing, hygienic and offer outstanding aesthetic appeal. For protective and powder coatings, to ensure the project was first-class right from the start, the specifiers turned to Jotun.

Hart Door Systems Ltd

Gerico France designs, manufactures and installs bulk solid storage and handling equipment. It offers bucket elevators, conveyors, pipes, silos, warehouses, milling machines, feed producing equipment, heat treatment devices, and accessories.Project/doors: 21 Speedor Storm High Speed DoorsThe challenge Gerico France delivered a turn-key flour mill project in Mombasa, Kenya for a Grain milling company at their state of the art milling plant. They required a solution to stop dust going out of the building instead of being aspirated by the installed system when emptying grain trucks into the wheat grain intake pit.The solutionHart installed three Speedor Storm doors from 4m wide x 5m high to 7m high. The Speedor Storm is the next generation of large external door which has improved wind resistance on both sides of the door and is suitable for larger openings, greater than 6m. This door does not require separate wind bars as the curtain contains wind bracing every 1m and is held securely into the guide channels with rollers at either side. The success Hart Doors sent an experienced engineer to Mombasa to supervise and assist in the installation and commissioning of the doors along with the training of staff to install future orders. 18 more Speedor Storms were ordered for a specialised dry bulk discharge and handling terminal for grain imports, located in Shimanzi, Mombasa.

Hart Door Systems Ltd

An innovative door design was required for a new manufacturing process about to be introduced in the new Nissan battery plant manufacturing facility. Project/doors:100 Bespoke Conveyor screensThe challengeNissan required a unique door for a new production facility. The doors needed to give 60-minute fire resistance and be capable of completing up to 400,000 open/close cycles a year. Further, the doors needed to meet strict air leakage criteria and be able to withstand sudden air-pressure increases. The doors also had to interface with third-party equipment such as conveyor belt controls and fire alarms. Each required an LCD display control panel that provided a quick and easy diagnosis of what each door was doing at any point in time. The solution Using an already proven design solution which Hart developed for the baggage handling system in Heathrow’s Terminal 5, Hart adapted the product to suit this new requirement. As this was not a product already on offer, invention and rigorous testing were required. The successA decade has passed since the doors were installed and commissioned. The facility continues the manufacture of the battery cells and the doors remain a critical part of the success of the plant and have proved exceptional reliability and total cost of ownership

Dart Valley Systems (DVS) were thrilled to be chosen for the refurbishment project at Heathrow Terminal 5. DVS worked with Heathrow Airport (formerly known as Heathrow Airport) for over 15 years, providing brassware and water controls and have become established as a trusted partner. The Terminal 5 design team at Heathrow Airport worked with DVS to expand the range to include flush valves, urinal controls, automatic taps amongst others to fulfil their requirements. This specification was then carried forward to future Terminal projects. After a thorough review of washroom products from leading suppliers, the Heathrow Airport design team nominated DVS as the preferred supplier. There was a high level of confidence in the reliability of the products and support provided from previous successful collaborations. The results, achieved through close collaboration, have provided both parties with significant benefits, Heathrow Airport obtained the exact specifications they required and DVS was able to produce some of their next generation products. application area: commercial gas heatinguse type: condensing gas boilersproject scope: line commercial freestanding chimney for condensing operationadded value: corrosion-resistant, air-tight and waterproof finishBackgroundThe combustion gases from the school's boiler room are exhausted through a freestanding 28-metre brick chimney. The structure was not suitable for the wet operation of condensing boilers. FuranFlex-25 Black was the chosen lining material. The new boiler plant required a 500mm diameter flue liner but the chimney could not accommodate a rigid liner this size. A FuranFlex25 Black liner was therefore specified as it expands into the rectangular flue shape when inflated with steam.Statement of workFuranFlex25 comes as a folded and soft tube. Inflating with steam irreversably hardens the liner fixing it in place. Within a few hours of steaming the liner was ready for connecting to the boilers. The appropriate adaptors/terminals were fitted making the chimney ready for operation.

Maximum ambient vibration isolation for sensitive glass measuring tables through automatic air spring elements

Maximum ambient vibration isolation for sensitive glass measuring tables through automatic air spring elements

ACE Fabreeka UK

Measurements made on a glass measuring table led to unusable results because the isolator used was unable to cope with the lateral stiffness of the products used. Only the low-frequency pneumatic isolators PAL 21 from ACE with automatic level control could provide a remedy. A special feature of these membrane pneumatic isolators lies in the level control valve, which has, by virtue of its construction, an above-average longevity. Relatively large acceleration forces can lead to horizontal movements and it is particularly in such situations that the robustness and durability of the isolation system make a significant contribution.

Premcrete

A new build development on a canal side site in Westminster, situated near the former London Taxi Drivers’ Association headquarters.Steeped in history, Taxi House is the transformation of the former London Taxi Drivers’ Association headquarters on Woodfield Road, Westminster into a new waterside destination on the Grand Union Canal. The project comprises of a mixed-used development on this canal side site, delivering 332 modern serviced accommodation rooms, commercial and retail space – which is also set to be utilised by community groups creating a new public realm.Premcrete were instructed to help with the project and to overcome initial challenges surrounding the proposed work. The main challenge was that the client and groundworker were averse to wrapping pile caps, as terminating a membrane at the edge of the pile caps often lacks adequate horizontal concrete surface for effective termination. In this regard, it is not uncommon for structural engineers to design the distance from the edge of the rebar to the edge of the pile cap at only 30-50mm, making the termination detail more intricate and challenging. The SolutionAs an alternative to wrapping, Premcrete provided a solid solution using Hydroprufe LG – as well as addressing the termination strip issue. This was completed by advising the groundworker to ‘overcast’ the pile caps, creating a 150mm space from the edge of the rebar to the edge of the pile cap. This approach was found to significantly improve installation efficiency and ease, resulting in a smoother overall process and a very happy client!Taxi House is set to complete in the Spring of 2025 and has a contract value of £52.5m.
