An innovative door design was required for a new manufacturing process about to be introduced in the new Nissan battery plant manufacturing facility. Project/doors:100 Bespoke Conveyor screensThe challengeNissan required a unique door for a new production facility. The doors needed to give 60-minute fire resistance and be capable of completing up to 400,000 open/close cycles a year. Further, the doors needed to meet strict air leakage criteria and be able to withstand sudden air-pressure increases. The doors also had to interface with third-party equipment such as conveyor belt controls and fire alarms. Each required an LCD display control panel that provided a quick and easy diagnosis of what each door was doing at any point in time. The solution Using an already proven design solution which Hart developed for the baggage handling system in Heathrow’s Terminal 5, Hart adapted the product to suit this new requirement. As this was not a product already on offer, invention and rigorous testing were required.The successA decade has passed since the doors were installed and commissioned. The facility continues the manufacture of the battery cells and the doors remain a critical part of the success of the plant and have proved exceptional reliability and total cost of ownership

The Islington Waste Recycling Centre is looking to decarbonise. At present, the centre accounts for 9% of Islington Council’s corporate estate gas use and the aim is to reduce that to zero. To achieve this, air source heat pumps and condenser units will be installed which posed an immediate challenge – how to install new copper pipework without disrupting the recycling centre. Contractor Vital Energi’s solution focused on the use of Viega Profipress.

An External Distribution Warehouse Heating Solution was required by Sports Direct for their main distribution warehouse facility at Shirebrook, Derbyshire. The warehouse being 156m x 134m x 17m with minimal internal space was an ideal application for TEx air rotation units.A key factor is choosing this technology was that they had already experienced the efficiencies of such product in their other facilities. 2 x TEG41 – Heaters Externally Mounted and 2 x TEG 61 – Destratification Units – Externally Mounted were installed at the facility by Imtech with a BMS Integration and Control system employed.Installation time was less than 2 weeks, including flueing and weatherproofing and now the warehouse at Sports Direct distribution centre has required heating level to keep stock and employees at a adequate temperature. The external installation has allowed for more internal space and the PPC colour of the external units blends into the exterior building design.

GEC Anderson stainless steel back bar counters and units were specified for the Foyer Bar and Mezzanine Kitchen at landmark London theatre, the Lyric.Mica architects were asked to handle the extensive refurbishment and GEC Anderson were awarded the contract to supply and install their specialist back bar equipment. Although the overall area of the bar is quite large, including all of the required items and equipment within its confines was quite challenging. Careful planning and design was necessary to achieve it and some unique fabrications and inventive use of available space were needed. Careful co-ordination and liaison between the GEC Anderson, the theatre and the design team enabled the end result to be realised.

This is the fourth branch the luxury gym brand has opened in London and the second we’ve delivered eye-catching luxury shower and changing rooms for. We manufactured our Luminoso glass shower cubicles with bespoke saloon style cubicle doors specifically for Barry’s Boot Camp to create a sleek contemporary finish without external door pull handles. The unique cubicles were completed with black finish ironmongery to complement the black tiles around the showers. We also designed and installed bespoke Corian vanity units and grooming shelves, which were manufactured in the dark grey and heavily veined ‘Cosmos Prima’ colour, adding to the industrial-chic style of the changing area.

The sleek new washrooms we delivered were designed with a minimal colour palette of natural oak and black. Our popular full height Alto toilet cubicles were finished with a natural oak real wood veneer and completed with matt black ironmongery including the striking vertical flat iron bar pull handles. Our Arpeggio solid surface Corian vanities were manufactured in a light grey shade to provide contrast to the black recessed sinks and tiled splashback while the underpanels were finished using the same natural oak veneer as the toilet cubicles

The Hard Rock hotels are an iconic music brand with an international presence.During the refurbishment of their retail premises in Great Cumberland Place, London they approached ASH to design a handle that reflected the values synonymous with their music brand and could be placed throughout the hotel.During the briefing session their iconic music associations and guitars were chosen as a product that many people identified with and was a design that could be practically developed into an entrance handle and handles throughout that kept it’s original design qualities whilst remaining practical and functional.Following the initial briefing ASH worked to develop the design for their new pull door handles, informing the client throughout the design process and providing technical drawings for the client’s interior designers.

They needed a reliable and efficient heating solution for their newly refurbished premises. New Clement W20 steel windows for Grade II* listed Town Hall

The town of Whitchurch in Hampshire is a special place: most of the town is a Conservation Area, the amount of wildlife in and near the River Test means its course and banks are designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and the town is the Gateway to the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the third largest of Britain's 46 AONBs. The current Town Hall was built by a local landowner, Lord Middleton, in or around 1791, using some of the timbers from the Old Town House that had stood in the centre of The Square, and was demolished in the 1780s. During the 1800s the building had many tenants including the Mechanics Institute and a furniture warehouse.Records show that in the 1900s the building was also put to a variety of uses. The local Magistrate held sessions, two rooms were used to shelter Military Units passing through Whitchurch, and in 1919 the building was used by the National Federation of Discharged Soldiers and Sailors. Parish Councils were set up in 1896, but met at the Poor Law Institute (the Gables). More recently, the National Fire Service was accommodated in the lower middle section of the building. In 1946, Midland Bank, (now HSBC) was in the lower right hand corner. The Town Band practiced here, and the British Legion used the upper floor. Recently, an extensive program of refurbishment works has taken place to improve the Grade II* Listed Building. This included new steel doors and windows by Clement for the front elevation. The Clement W20 range was chosen for both, with krypton gas filled units. Ash pull handles perfectly complement the steel doors and Boleyn handles were chosen for the steel windows. Sarah Weir, Clerk at Whitchurch Town Council said ““The Town Council are really pleased with the new windows and door which are modern, practical and in keeping with the historic building”.

After achieving an airtightness of 1.51, it was imperative to integrate ventilation to ensure the cottage was as energy-efficient and comfortable as possible.Partel consulted with Oakwrights to design a smart ventilation system that improved air quality and reduced energy costs. LUNOS e2 heat recovery ventilation units supplied by Partel were installed in all living spaces such as the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms. The versatile installation option, extremely compact fans, and highly energy-efficiency operation made them ideal for this residential project.
AKRI retaining planters drive biodiversity at Ferntower Road, London

Located in the historic district of Islington in North London, Ferntower Road is close to the popular green space, Newington Green. A dull and empty public space lies at the end of the road, nestled between local shops and cafes that passersby wander through.Islington Council wanted to improve the quality of air on streets and neighbourhoods, by introducing a green corridor which would make the space more inviting and encourage the locals to sit and relax.Working with local Landscape Architects, the plan was to help improve the public space by taking an inclusive approach. By using our AKRI 600 retaining planters, large scale planting beds were designed as part of a scheme, driving biodiversity and reducing air pollution in the area.A total of four AKRI planter shapes were crafted and manufactured in corten (a naturally corrosion resistant material). The AKRI system includes a timber seating module with cladding (which complements the AKRI unit) that was added to further bring people closer to nature. In the community, the planters and seating are well received as a new addition to the once unused public space.
Minnesota State Capitol selects Accoya windows

A major part of the project was restoring the building’s original wood windows, which had been covered over with aluminum windows 30 years ago. The aging units—242 in total—had suffered from fogging, failing glass, air leakage, & broken balances that rendered them inoperable. Window manufacturer Re-View, were selected to restore the windows.
Re-View restored the windows using restoration epoxies and replicated Accoya wood parts. Re-view chose Accoya due to its durability and 50 year guarantee.
As forecasted at the start of construction in 2013, the work will be completed in June 2017.

FasTop resin flooring was chosen as it provided long term flooring solutions which would be seamless and have the hygienic standards required for this industry and the colours required could be provided . The flooring products supplied by Sherwin-Williams had the necessary fast cure performance with the alternative textures to provide a variety of finishes from smooth easy clean surfaces to heavy duty more textured areas where more non-slip texture was required which would be resilient to aggressive cleaning processes. ART and Sherwin-Williams were able to provie self-smoothing smooth finishes and trowel applied textured finishes.

In 2015, Roger Stretton, an architect and one of the foundersof the practice Berman Guedes Stretton, and Martin Smithcollaborated to bring to fruition their shared enthusiasm forcontemporary, cutting edge, environmentally-friendly residentialdesign.On an attractive, mature garden site near Dorchester in Dorset,two 2,100 sq ft detached, two-storey houses were designedaround south facing courtyards with a one-and-a-half storeyheight living room.When designing the properties, environmentally responsiblematerials, products and processes were at the forefront ofthe specification. To this end, incorporating renewable andinnovative technologies, such as air-source heat pumps and heatrecovery ventilation systems enable the buildings to be highlyenergy efficient.Having previously used Allgood products, Roger recognisedthe brand for its quality and reliability, and consequentlyspecified Allgood’s Alite lever handles and Allgood doorsetsfor the project. He explains, “The new houses have a modern,minimalist design, so it was essential that the ironmongery anddoors complemented this approach, Allgood’s stainless steel Alitehandles and bespoke finished doors met these requirements.”To complement the interior architecture of the buildings, Allgoodsupplied doorsets incorporating fully fabricated and finishedflush doors with rebated frames to create a perimeter shadowgap. An important design feature was a clear line of visionthrough each house along the main axis of the plan. To achievethis, four special, full-height glazed doors with glazed side panelswere supplied. In addition, two 30 minute fire resisting doorswere also specified to the plant-rooms.Arriving on site, factory painted and with hinges and locksalready fitted, the Allgood doorsets provide valuable savings intime, cost and waste as well as a higher quality finish.

On this office refurbishment the original windows were non-thermally broken aluminium and for that reason not suitable for a residential tenancy.With the windows being on the 12th floor it would have been extremely difficult and expensive to replace them - due to scaffolding etc. Therefore, after a recommendation, the client decided to source Incarnation secondary glazing.As an office refurbishment in a busy built-up area, noise reduction was a key consideration. Using a hidden coupling bar between two units was a key feature, allowing the secondary glazing to match the sightlines of the original windows perfectly. By installing the secondary glazing with an air gap of 150mm between it and the existing window resulted in an impressive decibel reduction.

When working with the client, architect and sub-contractor on a project where discretion is required, it’s difficult for us to promote the project, especially when we have made bespoke handles, specifically designed for the whole project.This project was over two years work culminating at a difficult time, where restrictions on visiting construction sites was in place.We worked closely with our manufacturing partner to provide bespoke handles, not only for the main swing doors, but also for the wardrobes and inter-connecting doorset.All the products were in a Dark Bronze, consisting of a lever handle on square flush rose, a flush pull for the wardrobes and a solid brass pull for the inter-connecting door.Attention to detail is always paramount on all our projects, with a high polish on the internal doors the finish on the face of the lever handle had to be a perfect sheen, to stand out against the dark door finish. REQUIREMENT: A modular step unit and upper landing to the basement goods lift.The new system would replace the narrow concrete steps, which were concluded to be unsafe and didn’t have handrails to prevent falls.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:A site survey was carried out, and an in-house 3D ramp design was drawn to suit the space.The drawing shows that the air conditioning unit above the step unit would need to be moved 200mm away. END RESULT: We installed a yellow modular system straight over the existing steps within a few hours.This approach prevented the concrete steps from being removed and saved the client the extra time and money involved in hiring another trade to complete the enabling works. A bespoke platform joins the upper landing, and the feet were fixed into the concrete floor to keep the system securely in place.FEATURES INCLUDED:Trombone Ends - these are added to the ends of a step system to prevent clothes catching.Mesh Platform - the self-draining mesh allows water to pass through rather than collect on the surface.Standard Colour: Yellow – one of the easiest colours to see because of its ability to reflect light. The handrails are powder coated to create a durable finish that is tougher than conventional paint.Standard Handrail - this handrail system ensures users always have support to hold onto.

This results in major savings including lower installation costs due to more economical transportation, handling and on-site positioning.The client was delighted with the quality of the design and workmanship and with Dura’s ability to turn the fabrications around in such a short space of time, describing the structures as having “gone in like a dream”. Thehome is specially equipped with 63 en-suite rooms and adedicated dementia area, with 26 rooms for residents whorequire specialist support.Royal Star & Garter’s aim was to make sure that every roomwas specially equipped to suit the individual resident’s needs.Therefore, the access control solution had to reflect thisethos. With this in mind, Allgood Tio supplied and installedan advanced access control package, containing proximityreaders, proximity lever handle sets, safety sensors andautomatic door operators.Allgood Trio worked with Scurr & Partners Architects toprovide a low key, yet highly secure access control package,that allows staff to control the access given to residents,without causing any disturbance or confusion. This met RoyalStar & Garter’s idealogy of having a secure building, whilstmaintaining it’s homelike and comfy atmosphere.Royal Star & Garter’s dedicated dementia area required anaccess control package that kept within the main interiortheme, that used contrasting colours to help residentsnavigate their way round the building. Allgood Trio wereespecially asked to provide a practical and aestheticallypleasing lever handle set, that would suit this contrast,whilst maintaining it’s homelike atmosphere.
