Re-designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, Metalskolen conference centre on North Zealand, Denmark, has undergone a complete transformation. The new, contemporary interior features a total of 2,300m2 15mm Oak Classic plank flooring, fitted throughout circulation and breakout areas as well as in all conference rooms. Delivered unfinished, the solid oak flooring was finished on-site using Junckers’ Rustic Oil in White to create a pale floor which reflects a lot of natural light. The owners of this attractive, spacious home have recently refurbished and added a kitchen extension. Being situated within a London Conservation Area, it was vital that any new fenestration matched the existing. Clement was chosen to replace the doors and windows with new products from the Brooking and W20 ranges. All the new steel windows and doors are fitted with rectangular leaded lights - not only do they look fabulous, but they also allow a surprising amount of natural light into the house. The client chose dual colour for a number of the windows and French doors on the rear elevation. The outside frames were painted Pure White and the inside Black Grey - perfectly suiting the design and decoration.

The University of Bristol has upgraded its emergency lighting with a further 10 LuxIntelligent emergency lighting panels from Advanced. The new equipment was installed alongside 21 existing LuxIntelligent panels linked to around 4,500 light fittings, to ensure ongoing compliance with the BS 5266-1 code of practice for the emergency lighting of premises.The LuxIntelligent panels were fitted across a range of university buildings, including seven halls of residences, using existing cabling. The ease with which LuxIntelligent can be used to replace outdated emergency lighting on existing sites allowed significant time and cost savings to be achieved.In total, 31 LuxIntelligent emergency lighting panels from Advanced now protect numerous buildings across the University of Bristol, linked to a wide variety of LED luminaires from the LuxIntelligent range, to protect buildings with very different lighting requirements. Following an extensive overhaul of the emergency lighting system at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), the LuxIntelligent emergency lighting panel is ensuring ongoing compliance with the BS 5266-1 code of practice for the emergency lighting of premises.A large teaching hospital in the centre of Leeds, the LGI is a Major Trauma Centre and a leading centre for hand transplants. With equipment also installed across Chapel Allerton, Seacroft and St James University Hospitals, Advanced is now integral to the Standard Operating Procedure for the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The sides of the pontoon, bridge and ramp at Battersea’s river boat service required ultra safe balustrades. These had to be a natural fit to the industrial environment. The Square Line 60x30 stainless steel balustrade perfectly suited the job. Its stainless steel posts were welded to the pier for extra robustness, and toughened glass infills of 10 mm thick were added. The Q-lights Spotlight LED system was invisibly embedded in the handrails for extra safety at night. The industrial looking stainless steel elements of the Square Line 60x30 system add to the appearance of the pier.

SAS International bespoke metalwork comprising of a striking waveform shaped ceiling was designed by architects Arup Associates to feature in the construction of Ropemaker Place, London EC2 for British Land. Specialist bespoke wave ceilings were installed in the atrium, main reception area, lift lobbies and main external canopy. The waveform panel, although elegant in appearance, had to have the required strength to support the light fitting. Place, is a state of the art commercial development with impressive sustainability credentials.

Howe Green designed and supplied made-to-measure tree pit covers for a new social dining experience - The Winter Garden at Bluewater. The bespoke panels and frames facilitate access to the root chamber and make maintenance of the highly valuable trees straightforward. The covers were made from 304-grade stainless steel. Each tree pit was manufactured to individual size requirements and to accommodate light fittings. They were supplied with a double-seal to prevent dirt ingress which also helps protect the tree and keep the soil free from contamination.

The result is a contemporary, eye-catching 60,000 sq. ft. new HQ, which brings the brand’s UK-based office teams under one roof for the first time. Amplifying the brand’s heritage and reflecting the site’s semi-rural setting, the campus resembles a series of interconnecting barn structures that appear to have evolved over time. The complex is surrounded by landscaping including wildflower meadows and a kitchen garden which enhances the natural feel of the space. The interiors are a mix of single and two storey spaces encapsulating open plan and more defined rooms with levels reached by broad stairways. Structural steel and timber add visual heft to the predominantly white pallete which sees certain elements picked out in oxide red, deep teal and warm grey. It certainly delivers the wow factor and promises to nurture creative thought.Bailey Construction were the main contractor for the project, with Elmsmere Interior Systems responsible for the installation of the Rockfon acoustic systems. Gary Sturgess of Elmsmere spoke about the project, “This was an interesting project with Rockfon Mono® Acoustic used in a variety of roles and settings to help control sound while fitting in with the clean, pared down style of the interiors. However, when the pandemic struck and people shifted to working from home, construction was halted which allowed the company to revise its plans to best suit new methods of working and office culture. In response the company has expanded the central atrium and created more space between desks to promote spontaneous interaction. Meeting rooms are equipped with tech enabling remote workers to easily participate, while floor-to-ceiling windows and outdoor features, including a bug hotel, help to connect the space to the company’s countryside heritage.Nick Jones commented, “With the opening of our new office, we have introduced a new fully flexible approach to how and where our colleagues work, and the space that we have is critical to that. Not only does our new office allow teams to better connect with one and other—whether in the office or working from home—but also brings the countryside in, to help inspire colleagues from across the business.”Rockfon Mono Acoustic – versatility and styleRockfon’s Matt Barratt, “The completed Joules HQ looks fabulous. Throughout its open plan offices Rockfon Mono Acoustic has been installed to great effect, bringing together the seamless, clean lines associated with traditional plastered surfaces and acoustic performance thought only possible with modular systems. Large windows, structural steel and other hard architectural elements can generate unwanted sound within a space. Mono provides Class A sound absorption (0.95αw) which significantly decreases echo and reverberation levels.”The current utility aesthetic is in evidence at ‘the Barn’. Air conditioning, heating, ventilation and other services are on show in several areas, with Mono installed directly above. It offers Class A2 fire protection and remains dimensionally stable at up to 100% relative humidity. It offers 87% light reflection and greater than 99% light diffusion. In common with other Rockfon acoustic systems, Mono is made with a core of naturally occurring inert volcanic rock stonewall, is non-combustible and will not harbour harmful microorganisms and bacteria. It can be installed using a suspended grid system or be directly mounted on to the ceiling soffit or and wall.   

Ibstock Place School opened its newly built refectory in 2021. Designed by Maccreanor Lavington the competition-winning design is a dedicated space for the most communal part of the school. With a high ceiling and intricate woodwork, the open space is functional but uplifting.The high-level roof lanterns form a chimney to pull out hot air during the summer as well as fill the space with soft natural light, which is perfectly accented by acoustic dampening panels of oak.Handmade Bricks from Freshfield Lane were used in the construction of the cloister and work perfectly with the school’s previous uses of brick. Additionally, the choice of bricks helps set the building within its tranquil garden setting. The handmade Freshfield Lane brick helps the building age gracefully into the landscape while retaining a notable elegance. This sophisticated taste is mirrored inside by soft copper notes and long, hanging light fittings.

The result of the first project of this type is a house with an organic, soft design - the furnishings minimalistic, high-quality and modern. The house consists of triple-shelled walls that are filled with insulating mass. With the help of a giant 3D printer, the concrete mass was applied layer by layer. And within only a few months, a single-family house with 160 m² of living space was created.Nothing was to be missing from the house with its furnishings; the aim was to emphasise the high-quality and special style of the building. The concrete layers were to remain visible inside and out - reduced, clean and yet expressive in its style. This claim runs consistently through all rooms of the house. The bathrooms are equipped with KEUCO IXMO fittings in the shower and on the bathtub. The minimalistic fitting elements blend into the futuristic image, restrained yet strong in design. The shiny chrome finish, reflect a brilliant contrast to the dark tiles in the shower.Aligning with the principle of the house "without corners and edges", round cover plates were chosen for the fittings.  The accessories at the washbasin and WC also fulfil the credo of the design concept: EDITION 400 with its round form language is filigree and the accessories are high-quality eye-catchers. SAS International collaborated with architects TP Bennett to deliver metal ceiling solutions to meet CBRE’s unique demands on this CAT B fit-out. SAS330i LED noggin lights were selected to provide a seamless butt-joint solution between panels and gridwork. This effect ensures there are no gaps between light and ceiling. Manufactured from extruded aluminum profiles, each light was polyester powder-coated at SAS’s factory to ensure flawless colour consistency across the space. Delivering a complex fit-out on time and to specification, SAS delivered a striking feature ceiling that has transformed the office space for the client.

Gradus, has installed LED Step Lighting & LED Architectural Lighting at the historic Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline. The theatre, which recently celebrated its centenary, has undergone a refurbishment, which involved the use of several Gradus products to enhance its overall aesthetic.The Gradus ATD71L Aluminium Step Profile has been installed on the steps of the theatre, offering both upward and downward-facing illumination. This enables patrons to easily locate their seats, while also creating an attractive and inviting glow inside the theatre. In addition, the Gradus DLA45 Aluminium Architectural Lighting profile has been installed within the floors to illuminate the aisles and walkways, providing wayfinding assistance, and adding a subtle touch of elegance to enhance the theatre experience. ChallengeAt Cala’s development at Mistley, they had a footpath that required lighting and is to clear their planning condition the lights needed to be bollards. SolutionDue to their previous experience with our HELIA Solar bollard, Cala came directly to Solar Vision Lighting Technologies (SVLT), placing an order for 18 HELIA bollards which they knew would satisfy their planning condition. In order to eliminate the requirement for a GPR Survey they elected to supply the concrete pads for the 18 bollards. OutcomeThe concrete pads were installed prior to our arrival. ChallengeCALA Homes are a major developer in the UK delivering in excess of 3000 units a year and have regional offices all over the UK. With their sustainability policy in mind CALA's development at Kingsmere located in the popular town of Bicester. They had an area of the development that provided parking for their new homes and this needed lighting, unfortunately there was insufficient infrastructure in this area location.SolutionCALA contacted SolarVision Lighting Technologies to provide them with a lighting solution. There was no desire to install a traditional mains connected solution due to the disruption it would cause. SVLT provided CALA with a lighting design and installed our Astral Solar Street Lights, which would ensure minimal disruption and cause no damage to the roads and footpaths. To ensure health and safety compliance, we conducted a GPR survey to ensure no obstruction or unknown services were present, surveyed the proposed location to ensure we established the maximum solar energy yield and provide correct displacement of lighting across the car park. SVLT provided CALA with a full solution from design to fully installed. Our solution was totally non-invasive, with our Astral Solar Street Lights proving to be a very cost effective solution. The installation took one day and the lights were operational that night. The lighting profile was set at 4 hours at 60% in line with CALA's request. F. Ball products have been used to install vinyl and rubber flooring, as part of the refurbishment of the Wellington College fitness centre, in Berkshire. Flooring contractors were called to install luxury vinyl tiles and rubber flooring. After removing the existing floorcovering, contractors built up the raised platform with timber and plywood and applied Stopgap 1200 Pro smoothing underlayment over the raised platform and the screed subfloor. Styccobond F49 Hybrid PS temperature tolerant vinyl adhesive was then used to adhere the floorcoverings. The adhesive enabled contractors to successfully install luxury vinyl sheet, wood effect planks, plus the rubber flooring.

ChallengeBewley Homes development in Wilton Park Beaconsfield were looking to open up their show home, but wanted to light the way for their customers and advisors to walk from the sales office through to the show home. There was no power available for mains connected lighting and in any case their preference was to have a solar solution. An independent arts and entertainment venue, The Met hosts a mixture of theatre, music and comedy. Since closing in March 2016, the Grade II listed building has undergone a significant refurbishment to create a new and improved performance space and facilities. When proposing the architectural design, one challenge for Nickel 28 was how best to implement effective lighting into the large warehouse facility. Aiming to limit reliance on electric and artificial lighting in an effort to reduce energy consumption, daylighting solutions became a key consideration. Kingspan Light + Air, understanding the needs of the client, delivered a bespoke solution that satisfied the specific needs of the warehouse facility by helping to maximise on natural lighting. Implementing the Kingspan Day-Lite Kick wall light system horizontally across the loading bays in the warehouse enabled the facility to maximise on natural light without glare.

ChallengeSlough Borough Council are committed to reducing their carbon footprint across the region, as part of their pursuit of this target the council have sought to include climate-friendly lighting in their projects. Having used traditional solar solutions in the past, they contacted us to help develop a quality, reliable, and efficient solution for their Langley residential Public Open Space which was too dark in the evenings for residents. Working in partnership with Volker Highways, the site consisted of a common park area linking a housing estate with a major road junction for local transport services.SolutionSolar Vision Lighting Technologies were contacted as a solution provider to provide a lighting solution in the residential Public Open Space to help increase safety at night. Ideal for non-intrusive installation, our street lighting range was perfect for the brief provided.The Public Open Space was considered too dark, particularly along the site’s pathways connecting amenities and transport links. To resolve this issue, we installed solar light columns with a unique cylindrical design known as the ‘Solarwrap’, which is unlike traditional solar solutions which were specially designed for Councils like Slough in mind.This range provides A-rated optics designed to minimise light pollution while providing the required lighting, as well as contributing to the council’s net-zero carbon sustainability targets. Solar Vision were able to provide a full end to end solution from initial site surveys to non-invasive installation. A total of eight ASTRAL lighting columns were installed at the site utilising the Krinner Ground screw for a solution that resolves the lighting issue while ensuring the local ecosystem is undamaged.OutcomeThe ASTRAL column supplied in this project provides exceptional light flow across areas such as parking and communal locations, with the added benefit of motion detection to respect the residents and reduce light pollution.
