Baker McKenzie’s offices in New Bridge Street has been equipped with the latest in glass partitions. These partitions make up a large part of the theme of their newly designed London Headquarters. Alongside designer, KKS Strategy and main contractor, Twenty1 Construction we have provided a fit-out bursting with vibrant colour and innovative design.

For any retail application, there is usually a balance to be made between the functionality of easy access with the absolute need for security. In the case of this new build store for ASDA, the minimum requirement was for high performance steel doors that had to be delivered on time, to specification and within budget.Strongdor worked with the architects and contractor to ensure the supply of the doors that more than met the criteria.

This project is unusual and offered an interesting scope. Delta was approached to give assistance on designing a robust waterproofing solution to a new build basement within a Synagogue in North London. The main contractor having previously worked with Delta, knew Delta would be able to provide this project with a high calibre waterproofing design whilst offering respect for the community it serves.

Located at the heart of Paddington Central, Sheldon Square is best known for its amphitheatre, where a range of activities take place every day. From lunch with colleagues and friends to a special location for live music and culture, Sheldon Square and its amphitheatre are much loved by those that live and work there.  In 2022 the area benefited from a makeover which saw improved facilities, better accessibility, a more dynamic performance space and a greener space added. New trees, sun-loving plants and over 40 colourful perennials were added to not only create a vibrant display but were chosen for their ability to reduce pollution, improve air quality and to increase biodiversity and climate change resilience. Working with Gillespies, alongside main contractors, 8Build, and soft landscape contractor, Kingston Landscape Group, Boughton supplied over 80m3 of its ever-popular BLS 2 topsoil to site in bulk bags. Single-sourced, ‘as dug’ natural and screened, Boughton’s BLS 2 topsoil was specified for this project by Gillespies.  

St Vincents Church in Sheffield was to be transformed into a new student accommodation complex. The renovation project required a mass filling of the existing basement with 20N/mm2 concrete. When contractor, Paul John construction approached CEMEX for a suitable voidfill solution, we proposed to use Porofoam, our low density foamed concrete.Using Porofoam enabled the pour to be completed in less than half the time than using a standard concrete. Due to it’s reduced plastic density Porofoam could be placed in much thicker layers reducing lateral pressures exerted on the 165 year old internal walls of the basement.Additionally, Porofoam is self-compacting and self-levelling, which made it much easier for the contractor to place in the network of basement chambers.Porofoam is available in a range of densities and strengths and is manufactured using our proprietary CEMEX admixtures. For this project CEMEX delivered around 60m3 of pre-mixed Porofoam over 2 days to fill the void which achieved the required 20N/mm2 concrete strength.

Colindale Gardens is a unique mixed-use development in the heart of north west London. Commissioned by Redrow, the full development will bring over 2,900 new homes along with cafes, restaurants and retail facilities to the local community.Project BreakdownDesigned in a collaboration between Broadway Malyan, Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios and Fourpoint Architects, the extensive 19.17 hectare project will encompass a range of residential spaces, from studios to 4 bedroom homes. Each new development will overlook over 9 acres of landscape gardens.Close to Fryent Country Park with 250 acres of rolling fields and woods, the development has been designed with an emphasis on creating a community for relaxation, sports and play. To further enjoy indoor/outdoor living, all new release apartments and duplexes offer a tranquil private balcony and/or outdoor terrace space. The full development is due to be complete 2021.The SolutionEnviroBuild provided just under 400 m² of Hyperion Pioneer Walnut and Oak decking for the residential terraces. Verdo, Kew BridgeEcoWorld BrentfordCemfloor Level PlusA luxury development of apartments, shops, restaurants, parks and offices situated next to Brentford Football Club in West London.Cemfloor Level Plus was chosen for this project as the contractor required a screed that could be installed at low thicknesses. Cemfloor Level Plus was supplied by Capital Concrete and installed by Advance Screeding UK ltdClose to the River Thames, and next to Brentford football club in West London, Kew Bridge is a selection of beautiful new homes, as well as shops, cafes and restaurants. It is part of the wider Brentford regeneration project, and developed by EcoWorld.There are a total of 6 blocks on the site, and Cemfloor was the screed of choice for the main contractor.The main contractor had problems with the floor levels on site, so Cemfloor provided a thin screed system to work alongside the unique low profile UFH system; a castellated mat system installed onto Superfoil insulation. The UFH system was supplied by Compact Underfloor Heating. The complete floor build was only 45mm in depth and included acoustic insulation, thermal insulation, castellated UFHsystem, and Cemfloor Level Plus.Advanced Screeding installed Cemfloor Level Plus throughout the development. In total 800m3 of screed was easily pumped to height, over 11 floors without issue,providing an excellent, fast drying low profile floor, and saving significant time on the project.As Cemfloor Level Plus is a ready mixed solution it removed the need for any site mixing, material storage and material disposal from the site. Given the volume of screed required; if a self leveling compound product was used this would have equated to approx. 55,000 x 25kg bags of material having to be mixed on site.

Zentia helped with sound and sight in a new teaching block. The two to three-storey steel-frame building replaces a 1970s three-storey CLASP-type teaching block to bring accommodation into the 21st Century and was designed to BREEAM “Excellent” and BIM Level 2 standards.Zentia Axiom Knife Edge canopies with Ultima+ tiles and were specified by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council for the £12.5 million new secondary teaching block at Ystalyfera Welsh Medium Comprehensive School in the upper Swansea Valley in South Wales.Used throughout the new 6,500 m² building, the Axiom Knife Edge with Ultima+ Vector tiles were used, and in addition Perla 600 x 600 mm mineral fibre tiles were also fitted in classrooms and toilet areas.The 19-month long build by main contractor Dawnus Construction as part of the South Wales Regional Contractors Framework was challenging due to the tight site and restricted working spaces. A team of eight from specialist sub-contractor SAM Drylining installed the Zentia canopies and ceiling tiles.SAM Drylining contracts manager Ian Bartlett said: “This was a large extension to a comprehensive school and consisted of several different ceiling make-ups, including Zentia’s Knife Edge canopies, all floating in different areas with no ceilings above, and then several thousand metres of Zentia Lay-In grid."“The programme was a challenging one but was co-ordinated closely with all other subcontractors on site. If alterations to sequence or design were required Zentia’s technical team attended to site to discuss and were able to agree changes at site level, making the installation as painless as you’d expect.”

One of the world’s finest examples of architectural design and engineering innovation, WestKowloonStation sets a new benchmark for railway transportation. Collaborating with JV architects Aedas and AECOM and JV contractors Leighton Asia & Gammon Construction Limited, SAS designed, manufactured and installed products including bespoke straight and curved baffles, atrium panels and bulkheads, lighting trough and ceiling panels.

This stunning bespoke stone staircase, created from La Roche limestone, forms part of a large project that Stoneworld have collaborated on: After digitally templating the bare concrete structure onsite, individual step treads and step risers have been cut on the water jet cutter in our masonry factory. These have then been expertly fitted by the contractor.

Designed to provide first-class facilities for spectators, players, media and backroom staff, behind the poly-carbonate façade, the nuts and bolts of the stadium had to comply with some strict ground rules. The contractor had to work towards the BS8901 certification of sustainable management for events and event venues. This is where Geberit stepped in, supplying its HDPE pipes throughout the stadium.

Work started on improvements to the town’s thoroughfare in May 2015 with Contractors Dawnus Construction assigned for the main phase of the project in conjunction with Denbighshire County Council. It involved the complete reconstruction of the carriageway and footways in the southern section of the high street between Wellington Road and Kinmel Street. Trees were planted and new seats and new litter bins were installed throughout.

Triton Systems approved contractor, British Damp Proofing, installed products supplied by Triton Systems to waterproof two lift shafts in a development of 25 dwellings. Triton Bentonite Membrane was used to waterproof the lift slab base and kicker, which were poured using concrete made waterproof with Triton TT Admix. Triton's Adcor waterbar was then installed on to the kicker.

We worked closely with the client, Architect and main contractors to provide a unique engineered wood floor solution. The boards are unique and unusual, being cross band sawn to create a textured finish that looks natural like the old boards in loft conversions. This matched the ethos the client was trying to achieve in both look and finish. The product code is TW E781.

Handling over five million passengers a year, Liverpool John Lennon Airport is one of the UK’s busiest airports. Last year Twinfix worked with Principal Contractor Technical Construction Group Limited on a £750,000 project to design, manufacture and install a new covered walkway at the airport from the terminal building past stands 51 to 53 on the airside apron.

City of Edinburgh Council required a new roof for one of its local authority primary schools, Parsons Green. Built in 1961, the school had a copper pitched roof which was in need of replacement, and an upgrade to the insulation of the building was also required. The council also required a 20 year single point insurance-backed guarantee and a reputable installing roof contractor.

When Robert Doyle Ecobuild Ltd won the contract to build the 3,000 sq. ft. €2 million homes at Dalkey Avenue, the contractor sought hard landscaping products that could perform well over time while complementing the distinct aesthetics of the properties. Tobermore surpassed expectations with the provision of attractive permeable paving, block paving and kerbing products for the scheme.

The contractor for the project, Spetisbury Construction, replaced the existing composite decking boards with our non-combustible aluminium decking. The decking boards specified for this project were our ridged Senior Board, chosen for its strength and stability, but also for its excellent slip resistance. This was an important feature to help protect the elderly residents from falls in wet weather.

THE PROJECTCanterbury Riverside is a major new residential development designed by PRC Architecture for Bouygues Development\Link City. Its construction has been in progress since 2020, and in January 2022, the main contractor for one of the housing elements, Jenner Ltd, commenced work on the below-ground Block 11-13 car park. Jenner appointed specialist contractor GSE to install a new ground bearing slab within the car park, which would tie in with existing columns and retaining walls. The dimensions of the slab required movement joints to be accommodated and there were multiple access points that required waterproofing detailing. The design and installation was also required to meet the requirements of the NHBC (National House Building Council), so Fosroc was appointed to supply materials, and Waterproofing Design Services to carry out the design work. Jenner had previously worked with both Fosroc and WDS on block 14 of the project to provide gas resistant membranes and design.THE SOLUTIONSupercast Crystalline Waterproof concrete was selected due to its robust waterproofing response to any potential ingress through the ground bearing slab. Supercast PVC waterbars were also installed at every movement joint, with the complete Fosroc joint solution installed via Hydrocell XL closed cell compressible joint filler and Nitoseal MS300 joint sealant, which protected the joints against damage from traffic. Care was taken to design a fully linked waterproofing system around the joints between the new slab and existing column bases. This element was closely coordinated with the installing contractor (GSE).THE BENEFITSPour sizes and schedules were optimised by careful design and coordination. A flexible and fully watertight solution was achieved, and regular dialogue with the installing contractor ensured obstacles were swiftly overcome. Feedback from GSE was positive, with Site Manager Darren Knight commenting “This was the first time we had installed the FOSROC products on a waterproof detail. The advice and the back up from the team was very good and Paul Hitchins was on hand all along the install route to aide any issues, promptly answering our questions. The products were easy to install, and regular on-site inspections ensured a smooth install throughout. I would have no issue installing this product on any other job when specified.”

Riding Floors Ltd, contractors with over 50 years’ experience creating stunning hospitality venue floors, have used UltraFloor Prime IT Multi-surface Primer and Level IT Bond to install a beautiful LVT floor at The Heist pub in Elland, West Yorkshire.BackgroundLocated in a former Lloyds Bank, hence the name, The Heist has been lovingly created by two local business owners who have transformed the building into a smart and atmospheric pub. Earlier this year, the bar and daytime coffee bar was transformed by experienced flooring contractors, Riding Floors Ltd.The ChallengeThe highly experienced team at Riding Floors Ltd. required rapid drying expert subfloor preparation materials that would provide a super smooth finish to install the LVT floor covering.The SolutionWith a reputation built on quality workmanship, Riding Floors Ltd knew that UltraFloor would be the ideal subfloor preparation materials to use on this project.To prepare the concrete substrate for the application of Level IT Bond, the contractors first applied a coat of Prime IT Multi-surface Primer.Formulated to promote adhesion to all UltraFloor smoothing underlayments, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer reduces pinholing, minimising the risk of costly failures. With a coverage rate of 200sqm at 3:1 dilution, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer is a must-have product for all flooring installation projects.Once fully dried, Level IT Bond was applied at a 3-8mm depth across the 180sqm bar area. Level IT Bond is a rapid curing, high performance, free flowing two-part smoothing underlayment. It has exceptional adhesion characteristics making it suitable for use over a wide variety of subfloors and substrates, including old adhesive residues.This versatile and moisture tolerant floor leveller has a set time of 90-120 minutes, can receive foot traffic in as little as 1.5 – 2 hours, and can receive bonded floor coverings after just 4 hours – ideal for projects where a quick turnaround is essential.With a coverage of approximately 5sqm at 3mm and an exceptional flow, it is unsurprising that Level IT Bond is a firm favourite for today’s flooring contractor.ResultsThanks to the rapid setting properties of Level IT Bond, the entire project was finished in one week. Using products like FB750 (Intubatt) and FS702 (Intumastic) – the striking new development allowed for GRJ Contracting to use the complete passive fire protection offering from Nullifire. In 2018, Corby town centre was in need of renovation. With more council planners calling for sustainable, urban developments, it became clear that the town’s Market Walk Shopping Centre needed to be updated, both functionally and aesthetically. Midlands-based O’Brien Contractors were tasked with transforming Market Walk’s outdated multi-story carpark on Market Walk into a flexible, functional and long-lasting alternative.

Ahmarra manufactured fire doors for Brunel University London, on behalf of the main contractor. Made from sustainably sourced FSC® timber, these doors are faced with Formica’s stylish Terril (F2297) dark grey high pressure laminate. As with all of our Education Range, these pre-hung doorsets were supplied with factory-fitted stainless steel ironmongery, ensuring full compliance.

Alumasc Skyline was recently chosen by contractors Tetraclad to design and supply bespoke soffits and fascia for the assisted living complex Greenfields in Leighton Buzzard. The prestigious development is made up of 82 one and two bedroomed apartments, designed for over 55s. The apartments are finished to a high standard and are available on a rental or shared ownership basis, with extra care assistance available for those who need it. .

The Oculus is a new flagship teaching and learning, multi-faculty building designed to encourage sharing and socialising between students across the full range of academic subjects, enhancing their student experience. Our antimicrobial wall cladding was specified for the multi-million-pound project to develop four commercial kitchens at SW19 to serve the thousands of guests, players, and VIPs who attend The Championships each year. Working alongside a number of contractors, we were heavily involved in the refurbishment of the kitchen and food preparation areas, where over 1000m2 of cladding was installed in Spring of this year.

With an acclaimed biochemistry building constructed in 2008, the University of Oxford appointed main contractor, Laing O’Rourke, to build the £73m phase two expansion of the facility.The institution required extra space for the faculty and the new building would house very specialised equipment.With respect to a partnership agreement with the University of Oxford spanning 20 years, it was important for Laing O’Rourke to select the right partner for the project.

TVS Group were approached to reduce noise levels in certain areas of the new offices created for Protector Insurance. Working with the client and contractor, TVS proposed and supplied 125 no. TVS ABSorb Baffles wrapped in striking lobster-coloured Camira Lucia fabric. The client is delighted with the level of noise reduction achieved and the way the baffles integrate with the existing office colour scheme.

How do you replace the water distribution system in a 100-year-old prominent building? That was the challenge for contractors Capri Mechanical Services who took on replacing and updating the domestic services at the prestigious Strand Palace. Their solution was simple: replace all pipework and utilise Viega press technology to install the systems in a way which protected the hotel and met building requirements.
