Able Canopies Ltd

Portakabin Ltd. were working on a project for Servicecare Support Services Ltd. to install a temporary canteen and locker room facility. They required the extra building space so they could continue to operate whilst adhering to social distancing measures throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.Alongside the temporary building, they were in need of a wall mounted canopy along the right elevation to provide weather protection above the main entrance to the building that leads to the corridor.Able Canopies have been working with Portakabin for a number of years, adding shade and shelter structures to their temporary buildings. Although our canopies are permanent structures, we have designed above ground planter pads and special wall brackets to enable us to install the canopies and take them down when they are on longer required. These adaptions have been designed for our Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy and have been successfully used for many years now. The staff at Portakabin therefore put the Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy forward to Servicecare Support Ltd. who were pleased with the design and specifications and were happy to go ahead with the installation. The final design was 10m in length with a 3m projection to cover the whole span of the temporary building and provide the weather protection required above the entrance.

One Great Cumberland Place

One Great Cumberland Place

INTRAsystems

Making an ImpactOne Great Cumberland Place is 5,511m2 of high-grade office and retail space, over 8 floors behind an Art Deco façade. Each of the three entrances receives hundreds of pounding feet every day. The design ambitions here were to maintain and enhance the historic elements; the curved draft lobby, original hardwood, brass details, and marble floors.Water and dirt collection was the major challenge for all entrances. But, in particular, a dedicated entrance leading to 121 bicycle lockers housed in the basement! We’ve worked with Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) on several projects, so they knew INTRAsystems’ premium Entrance Matting products would be up to the task.Combination inserts deliver with efficiencyIn a busy location with so much coming and going, performance, serviceability and longevity were key. AHMM opted for alternating inserts of INTRAlux® Ultimate 907 Anthracite fibres and Ribbed Rubber. This premium Entrance Mattting combination can withstand heavy wear from tyres, and remove more debris than fibre alone while the INTRAlux® Ultimate inserts offer market-leading moisture absorbency. The Unbeatable Duo of Durability and Luxury in Entrance MattingThe innovative composition of our Ultimate fibre draws off three times more moisture than traditional fibres. And the 900g/m2 density enables faster moisture evaporation, even in busy areas.INTRAflex XT is a popular design choice for outstanding performance, consistency, and adaptability. This open construction variant easily draws off debris and water brought in from the busy London streets while the tough aluminium frame comes with a 10-year warranty and a choice of three finishes. The black anodised finish chosen here is stylish and inconspicuous.Hidden Depths in the Challenging Cycle CorridorThe cycle entrance corridor is 7m x 2.2m, especially designed to welcome heavy bicycle traffic heading down to the subterranean lockers.Wall to wall Entrance Matting runs along the stretch with our unique INTRAmatting Waterlogic drainable system mounted underneath. This 80mm deep tray sits on a screed base and holds up to 75 litres of water per m², perfect to collect water run-off or direct water contact. Its a great hack for this location, since the doors are open to the elements for longer to allow riders to enter and exit the building. The engineered gradient helps to collect dirt and contain or divert water into an optional drainage outlet.Easy Entrance Matting MaintenanceDesigned for extreme performance and built to withstand pretty much anything. We’re so confident in Waterlogic’s durability, we provide a 15-year warranty. What’s above the tray is equally industrious. The heavy-duty INTRAflex XT system is removable to aid maintenance. Facilities teams can clear debris without special tools or training, saving time and money for a busy property.A sensitive and Robust OutcomeAHMM maintained key architectural features of the Art Deco façade in their design scheme. Features like the curved draft lobby, wooden detailing, brass thresholds, and marble floors and motifs.INTRAsystems’ products enabled the installers, LW Flooring, to sensitively and precisely work around them. The entrances contain engineering secrets that deliver exceptional performance to perfectly complement this beautiful building.

Ysgol Penyffordd, Penyffordd

Boyco (UK) Ltd

In collaboration with Wynne Construction, BOYCO supplied our ‘Built to Last’ education furniture solutions to transform the newly built extension at Ysgol Penyffordd.Project ScopeClose to the borderlands of Wales and England, Ysgol Penyffordd was first constructed in 2018 to offer a modern school learning facility for primary school children.Due to the success of this, a new project arose to extend the current building to increase the capacity of the school. The BOYCO WayBackgroundTried and trusted for over 60 years, BOYCO were called into action after previously working with Wynne Construction on many other projects.Offering end-to-end delivery, starting from design to manufacture and install, our dedicated and friendly project management team provided a bespoke fixed furniture solution that suited the needs of the primary school classroom.Teaching walls were installed as a focal point for learning. Integrated within the structure was storage in the form of draws and cupboards, and to utilise as much space as possible the doors of the Teaching Walls have integrated whiteboards. Along with this providing extra space to organise items and keep the area clutter free, it creates a collaborative environment. Teachers of Ysgol Penyffordd are able to both demonstrate learning points through writing and diagrams, which encourages interaction between the front of the classroom and the learners. In the corner of the classroom, a resource area and sink were installed. Our in-house design team opted to have the sink at a lower level, perfect for use by primary school students who need access. This is a fantastic addition to the classroom, enabling a place for handwashing after subjects like arts and crafts which encourages independence and good hygiene practices in the classroom.BOYCO's cloakroom furniture was also installed. Specifically designed to fit the corner of the classroom, we focused on ensuring it was both easily accessible and utilised as much space as possible. As additional storage, lockers were installed on the opposite side of the room. Not only does this provide a secure space in which students can store items, but it also offers a suitable solution to reducing clutter in the classroom.Bespoke ProductsAs per the BOYCO standard, all the metal work used for the cloakroom furniture is coated in our in-house pioneered ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon. This coating is 4 times thicker than powder coated alternatives for unmatched durability, perfect for a busy learning environment where there is potential for scratches and scrapes against the furniture. BOYCO’s ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon also boasts anti-microbial properties; 99% of all known bacteria cannot survive on the surface. Due to it being a high touch point area, it contributes to the health and safety practices of Ysgol Penyffordd.Anti-microbial properties are found in our timber lacquer which is used in the cloakroom furniture, such as the peg rails and benching slats. This again promotes a hygienic classroom environment and meets with the school’s safety standards, even with daily use by the students. Project SuccessDuring and upon completion of the project, Team BOYCO visited Ysgol Penyffordd. This was both to assist in project management and to see the final results, as well as to view how the classroom looked once it was being used by staff and students. The school expressed that they were overjoyed with the final results. They now have a great addition to their learning space for all primary school children, as well as teachers, present and in the future to enjoy.Products in this case study:1000mm Double Sink Unit520mm Wide Shelf Unit, 2000mm (H)1040 Wide Shelf Unit – 4 Door Split3 door all steel lockers 1780 x 305 x 460Wall/Floor Bench and Separate Peg RailK Pegs Currently, working on an Education project? Student accommodation provider CRM will run the scheme, and the first students will move in this September.Located on Hawkins Road, just within 20 minutes from the University of Essex, the Enso project offers excellent transport links. The nearby Hythe railway connects directly to Colchester mainline station, making it a convenient choice for students.Watkin Jones plc, in collaboration with The Bike Storage Company, has designed, manufactured, and installed various bike storage solutions for the Enso project. These include three types of bike storage for the site and a bespoke Amazon Eco Bin Store, ensuring all residents' needs are met.For the primary cycle storage area on the site intended for the accommodation residents, we built a 100-space Amazon Eco Two-Tier Cycle Shelter, with Gas-Powder-Coated Upper Tiers for ease of use, our ever-popular Sheffield stands on the lower tier for efficiency. Alongside the 100 Space Shelter, we provided 6 Vertical Bike Lockers for a premium, personal storage solution. Finally, we provided some easily visible and accessible Stainless Steel Sheffield Stands at the entrance of the building for visitors to the site. All timbers used in constructing our timber-clad shelters and enclosures are responsibly sourced. Our innovative cycle storage has enabled the development to become one of Colchester's most sustainable PBSA schemes, achieving a BREEAM "Excellent" rating. This is a testament to our commitment to environmental responsibility and should make all stakeholders proud of the project's positive impact.

Conquest Hospital, St Leonards-on-Sea

Rapid Ramp Limited

PROJECT BACKGROUND:As pressure continues to build on the UK’s health service, Conquest Hospital's Emergency Department urgently needed to transform their current staff welfare area with additional space, achievable with a modular extension. The design included a canteen space, toilets, shower rooms, storage areas and lockers for NHS staff.REQUIREMENT:External developments included an accompanying ramp to overcome the exterior door threshold. The works needed to be achieved within a quick turnaround time and with minimal disruption to the daily running of the department.SITE SURVEY & DRAWINGS:We responded rapidly with a site survey soon after the initial enquiry. This project benefitted from the Lidar scanning technology used by our site surveyors. The machine scanned and plotted the heights and widths of the objects in view, including different floor levels. Our in-house designer then created a 3D visual of the ramp on top of the lidar model, ensuring to draw around any obstructions. The final 3D & 2D drawings were after given to the client with their quotation.END RESULT:Once the extension was near completion, the ramp was fitted in an L shape configuration within a day, minimizing disruption.FEATURES INCLUDED:Standard Handrail - this handrail system ensures users always have support to hold onto.Trombone Ends - these are added to the ends of a Rapid Ramp to prevent clothes catching.Mesh Platform - the self-draining mesh allows water to pass through rather than collect on the surface.Powder Coated Finish – rails are coated with thermosetting powder to provide a non-conductive, non-slip and scratch resistant surface.Telescopic Legs - these can be adjusted to accommodate different threshold heights.EXTRA FEATURES INCLUDED:Yellow Powdercoated Handrails – yellow is one of the easiest colours to see because of its ability to reflect light.Yellow Tread - this is a safety feature designed to help those with impaired vision identify the nose of the ramp and any level changes.
