On top of this, the final finish also had to integrate with a traditional solid build-up. The Living Planet Centre is WWF’s brand-new purpose-built head office in Woking. Hopkins Architects and Willmott Dixon asked Planet to provide specification for internal glass partitions in this two-storey 3,666 sqm building. For the meeting rooms, Planet Partitioning installed an electronic room booking system within p100 partitioning, so staff can book meeting rooms. For all the meeting rooms, remote controlled integrated venetian blinds allow additional privacy as required. p100 also ensures all meeting rooms meet high acoustic performance requirements. Planet Partitioning also installed FireStop fire-rated glass partitioning to meet fire regulations throughout the building.

Trief Cadet GST1A were used across Vale Road bridge which connects the Rhyl to its rail station. Cadet offered a unique solution to protect the Victorian bridge structure without compromising the existing access across the bridge. Vale Road bridge had many design aspects which included protecting the structure from the rigours of passing traffic, without reducing the width of the carriageway available for traffic to pass and maintaining access for pedestrians. A range of F. Ball products have been used to deliver a high quality, long-lasting floor finish in Plaisterers Hall, as part of a refurbishment following flood damage. Contractors first applied Stopgap P131 general purpose primer over the subfloor, to seal the entire area, and to aid adhesion of the smoothing underlayment. Once the primer had dried, contractors applied two component smoothing underlayment Stopgap 1200 Pro over the entire screed. Styccobond F3 water-based rubber/resin flooring adhesive that has excellent wet grab with an early build-up of strength, was used to adhere the carpet to the subfloor.

Prepping decking with PrepdeckAfter cleaning their decking with bleach and removing any loose or flaking bits from the surface, our customer then used our professional stripper, Prepdeck to remove the old stain from their decking.Our customer applied Prepdeck in small areas that he could complete in 15-30 minutes, then, after leaving it to do its magic, used a stiff nylon brush to ‘lift’ the stain from the wood, ensuring that they worked in the direction of the grain.They then thoroughly rinsed the product off the decking using a garden hose – again, working in the direction of the grain.If you want to make this part of the job a little easier, you could opt for hot water instead.This is a great product, as it can also be diluted to make a powerful cleaner for weathered woods and can even be used on thermo (burnt) wood.Next neutralise with Net-trolThe customer then used our wood cleaner Net-trol to neutralise the surface of the decking, in preparation for the finish.After applying Net-Trol to the wet decking, they scrubbed the surface with a brush.They then left it to stand for around 15 minutes, keeping an eye on it to ensure that the surface of the decking didn’t dry.If it had begun to dry, he would have had to dampen it with a mist of water.They then scrubbed the decking again, this time whilst rinsing it.Now, it was just a matter of leaving the wood to dry for 48 hours before applying the finish.Choose a finish to protect your deckingThis customer opted for Aquadecks, our water-based penetrating finish. Then, after around 15-20 minutes (when the ‘wet look’ of the first application had disappeared), they applied a second application and allowed this to penetrate.After a further 15 minutes, they brushed out any puddles so that the decking wouldn’t dry with shiny spots on the surface. The land owners of Seadune contacted us as they were having planning using regarding the foundation design on their new house that they were looking to build. The site in question was very close to the coast and they were effectively building on the beach. As such the planners required the building to have foundations that would allow the building to be dismantled and moved away from the sea in the event of major coastal erosion.As FastSlab is constructed using galvanised steel screw piles it is perfect to be used in coastal areas. Each section is also bolted together and as such can be unbolted. This allowed us to build into the design a way of unhooking all the elements and to be able to re-position them further away from the initial location should the need arise.Seadunes ground floor area of this project is 120m2 and the whole system was installed in just 5 days.

A redevelopment was appointed by Gloucestershire County Council as the building was a vacant asbestos ridden 1960s building. There are four staircases and integral lifts to the second floor as well as a further 3 lifts dedicated to first floor, serving both GP practices.Cellecta’s ScreedBoard 20 was specified by ADP Architecture due to it being the ideal overlay floorboard for acoustic applications. ScreedBoard 20 was laid upon a first floor over PIR to achieve U Values as the build was unable to accept a wet screed due to weight restrictions upon the ground.Kier Group was awarded this 2,500m² contract to construct this development in the centre of Gloucester.

The kitchen is located on the lower ground floor which is where the two new doors have been installed. They bring in lots of natural light and open out into the charming walled garden.Mary commented: “I love my new steel doors which make the room much lighter and warmer and encourage the indoor-outdoor link to the garden. The enormous redevelopment of the site around Broadcasting House is situated between the Bakerloo and Victoria underground lines and the tube trains are clearly audible in all the buildings. Therefore, CDM Stravitec was asked to install floating floors using the Stravifloor Deck system.To protect the BBC W1 technical boxes from structure-borne noise each one was built off a concrete floating floor.The construction of the floating floors depended on the location within the building: in the basement the floors were 125 mm concrete on 100 mm void supported by bearings with a natural frequency of <8Hz.On the ground floor the floors were 90 mm concrete on 100 mm void; the 2nd floor was 90 mm concrete on 75 mm void and the 3rd and 4th floors 90 mm concrete on 50 mm void.

This jaw dropping project featured Lazenby Light Natural polished concrete floors and cast in situ stairs. The concrete flows from the entrance hallways throughout the ground floor and up the feature staircase to the first floor landing.This 4 week phased project saw the polished concrete floor installed first. The formwork and reinforcement for the staircase was then fixed and built off the floor. Once the stairs had been cast the brass balustrades and handrails were retrofitted to the concrete.This self-supporting concrete architectural feature staircase involved discussions with external engineers who then designed the reinforcement. The complex angles, joins to other structural elements and the sleek elegance was meticulously planned and executed. The polished concrete floor joints carefully designed to enhance the creative charm of this project.Photography by David Butler
