Mercedes-Benz Airport Center Berlin

Mercedes-Benz Airport Center Berlin

Villeroy & Boch - Tiles Division

To showcase the product range, the Airport Center features an impressive spatial concept, in which the tile design from the X-PLANE collection of V&B Tiles was impressively staged. In X-PLANE’s design composition, the original appearance of a cement surface is enhanced with a metallic glimmer. This enhancement of the surface leads to a variety of stylistic possibilities, which were used to enhance the atmosphere in the showroom of Mercedes Benz. As a high-quality and durable floor covering, tiles from Villeroy&Boch also meet the requirements for maximum functionality, capable of withstanding the weight of cars and enduring high visitor frequency.Images ©: AirportCenter of the Mercedes-Benz Berlin branch

Steigenberger Hotel & Spa design

Rock Unique

In the picturesque Wachau Valley, among numerous vintage taverns and art galleries, lies the city of Krems an der Donau, an ancient town on the Danube that enjoys an exclusive natural landscape surrounded by greenery.A short walk from the city centre, nestled among the surrounding vineyards, the Steigenberger Hotel and Spa offers guests a warm welcome with a modern style where they can breathe in a calm ambiance with relaxing views of the old town of Krems or the Danube Valley. In this setting suspended somewhere between tradition and the search for contemporary style, the elegance and practicality of Atlas Concorde products stand out in some indoor areas of the building. Realism, simplicity, and technical performance: the strength of a natural material inspired by stone covers the walls of the rooms in a warm shade, creating a strong yet natural and welcoming atmosphere. Veins, shading, and inclusions of materials offer a contemporary design, creating a synergy between reliability and beauty. On the other hand, the interpretation of the concrete effect in a ceramic material creates the perfect background to experience moments of relaxation in the suites and the spa. Original decorations and elegant porcelain surfaces embellish these spaces, the floors and tiles interacting in perfect chromatic harmony.

EH Smith Architectural Solutions

CANYON AND KAIJO Light and shadow as natural stylistic elements of facade architecture.Agrob Buchtal has expanded its range of three-dimensional façade ceramics with the two new surfaces Canyon and Kaijo: they were created in close cooperation with the product designer Markus Bischof, are deliberately contrasting and thus offer an architecturally attractive range of designs.Despite the deliberate stylistic difference, both novelties share a number of common features: The characteristics of Canyon and Kaijo are particularly accentuated in the unglazed earth tones of the Natura collection. In order to use reflections as an additional stylistic device, numerous glazed variants are also available in the nuances of the SpectraView colour system specially developed for façades. The world of formats is similarly versatile and individual: both surfaces can be produced in different grid formats (heights from 15 to 60 cm and lengths up to 180 cm) depending on the project. Thanks to the intelligently designed KeraTwin K20 fastening system from Agrob Buchtal, they can be used horizontally, vertically, as a bond (e.g. half bond) or even diagonally in extreme cases using a special solution.Canyon: The Perfection of the ImperfectIrregularly fine steps and grooves in combination with striking ridges create a charming dialogue that is abstractly reminiscent of the delicate yet rocky-grey stratifications and plateaus of the Grand Canyon in the US state of Nevada.Canyon translates this unbridled power of nature and the interplay of the elements over millions of years into ceramic form. In the surface, the whole thing then comes together to form a made-to-measure ceramic suit that conveys sovereignty and homogeneity thanks to the special design: On the one hand, because the joints along the individual tiles recede into the background and are barely perceptible, and on the other hand, because a harmonious overall appearance is created despite the asymmetry of the profile. The distinctive design creates changing effects depending on the time of day and the position of the sun: Light and shadow thus become natural design elements.Kaijo (Japanese for "to shape"): Pulsating dynamics In Kaijo, three-dimensionality is created not by elevations but by depressions. The surface is oriented towards archaic handicraft techniques. Through "ordered irregularity", embossments of different lengths and depths with constant width and direction result in a ceramic curtain façade in a double sense, namely in relation to the construction principle ("curtained") and the visual impression, which in the broadest sense evokes associations with a curtain or a drape with partially woven-in thickened threads or other nobly veiling textures. The result is pulsating dynamism of a discreet kind that does not impose itself in a shouty manner: Restrained from a distance, the fine rhythms become more and more apparent as one gets closer. Particularly in an urban context, this can lend buildings an individual face, even in narrow urban canyons, which captivates with its gentle charms and yet integrates coherently into the respective environment.FIRE PROOF, LIGHTWEIGHT AND CREATIVE!Façade systems from Agrob Buchtal are not only efficient, cost-effective and aesthetically pleasing, but also enable stringent fire safety requirements to be met. They satisfy the highest standards for classification (A1 Euroclass rating) as ‘non-flammable’ and also fulfil the additional requirements for no smoke development and no dropping or dripping while burning. Even in the event of a fire, no fumes or toxic gases are released. This allows peace of mind for the client, specifier and contractor.Coupled with the huge design flexibility with the range of shapes, sizes, colours and textures available the KeraTwin , KeraShape and KerAion ranges have it all!We love finding creative solutions so contact us with your project details on facades@ehsmith.co.uk / 0121 713 7200

Ironmonger Row Baths

Ironmonger Row Baths

Sauna360 Ltd

The original Ironmonger Row Baths site was built in the 1930s with swimming pool and traditional style bathing house of hot rooms and cold plunge in the basement. These facilities were completely upgraded in 2012 with saunas and steam rooms added.  In January 2022, the basement spa was destroyed by a fire. A complete restoration of the area was required of the builder’s work, fabric and services and Sauna360 UK was honoured to be commissioned to design and install all wellness areas. In January 2024 the "bathing house" re-opened to a wonderful reception. There has been a transformation of the area and a feeling of space, tranquillity and relaxation. Huge full height tiles adorn the walls throughout. Longitudinal floor tiles subtly take the eye to the glass fronted Salt sauna at one end and the backlit image and relax zone the other.  On arriving from the changing area the guest has a choice of contemporary facilities of saunas, aroma steam rooms, feature showers and ice to the left or traditional hot rooms, cold plunge and massage slabs to the right with large relaxation areas in the centre.  In the contemporary zone there are two large saunas: The Juniper Sauna This sauna  is operated at 75-85C with automatic infusion for a medium humidity. To the front a Juniper wall provides a beautiful detail with its own natural spicy aroma.  Behind the benches, and hidden within the wall, are Infra red panels. These allow the room to be operated in separate sessions at a lower temperature 40-45C with the benefits of IR bathing. The Salt Sauna The Salt Sauna is hot (85-95C) and dry like a traditional Finnish sauna and provides the ideal environment for the large salt wall. The impressive sauna has the height for a third bench in the hottest zone. The glass front allows the backlit salt wall and attractive finishes to be viewed from outside and the feeling of space appreciated from within. The Aroma Steam Room This opulent room has copious amounts of steam infused with seasonally changing essence. The stunning, large format, dark marble tiles are paired with subtle underbench lighting to create a relaxing ambience. Inclined backrests are used for ultimate comfort.Salt Inhalation Steam Room Contrasting beautifully with Aroma Steam Room, this thermal experience infuses the area with a mint or lemon essence to complement the automated salt spray within the steam environment for enhanced inhalation benefits.Completing the area are two Feature showers with warm and cool programs using essence plus a Cool room with ice feature and icy mint spray.Infrared Benching In the central area there is a long Recliner bench in ergonomic ceramics with gentle Infra red heating plus an expansive relaxation zone.Hot Rooms In the traditional zone there are the Hot Rooms. A series of interlinked rooms in large ceramics with increasing temperature as you get further in for the ultimate thermal experience.Drench Bucket & Plunge Pool Outside the hot rooms one will find a drench bucket cleansing shower and a large Plunge pool. The plunge pool now includes a unique heat recovery system which uses the heat removed from the plunge pool water to provide heat to the existing learner pool.Massage Slabs & Footrests The traditional zone also has twin heated Massage slabs for wet massage treatments by the spa therapists. The area is completed by additional heated benching with heated foot rests, below the backlit feature wall.

JACKOBOARD® A sustainable backerboard system for tiling

JACKOBOARD® A sustainable backerboard system for tiling

BEWI UK Construction

Manufactured with an extruded polystyrene foam core and a special coating on both sides, Jackoboard construction boards from Jackon by Bewi can be used as part of a system approach for tiling. With a range of shower trays and drain kits, Jackon says Jackoboard can help create a perfect wetroom or bathroom environment.Jackoboard construction systems provide the flexibility to meet modern requirements in bathroom design. “What was once considered a mere washroom has now been elevated to a private wellness oasis,” Jackon says. “In recent years, the demands placed on bathroom finishes have changed dramatically to allow refurbished bathrooms to shine like new with flexible and high-quality renovations.”The current British Standard for tiling, BS 5385-1:2018, requires the wider use of more appropriate materials for construction, and for receiving tiles in water sensitive and wet areas. This has reportedly increased the demand for the Jackoboard range in new build applications as well as in renovation works. The products are manufactured sustainably and, being superb insulators, they can be used in the design of energy-efficient homes, the company says. The protection of the environment is key to parent company Jackon by Bewi. The company says that plastics, when used as long-term construction materials can greatly reduce the need for heating energy and can therefore make a positive contribution to tackling the climate crisis. In fact, Jackon has been running a campaign in recent years to supply beehives made from the company’s polystyrene bead to the Bee Centre in Chorley. Like Jackoboard, the company says, these beehives will last a lifetime and provide better insulation than the alternatives, enabling the Bee Centre to continue its outreach work in support of honeybees and beekeeping. The surfaces of the Jackoboard system are said to provide an extremely strong bond for the tile adhesive and can be used on virtually any substrate. The boards are waterproof, thermally insulating, very lightweight and strong. The range can form the basis for a tiled finish, but it can also provide a substrate for wallpaper, paint or plaster. “So the possibilities for personal expression are virtually unlimited, allowing every bathroom to benefit from its own individual style,” Jackon says.Due to their core made of extruded polystyrene foam (XPS), Jackoboard construction boards and the wider product range are all lightweight and waterproof – a key benefit for bathroom new build and renovation.Jackoboard also makes installation “simple and easy”. The construction boards, bath panels and angle elements can be trimmed to the desired dimensions with standard tools, while their insulation values reportedly enable them to maximise the benefits of underfloor heating. The range is available in sizes and board thicknesses from 4-80mm to suit all building requirements. A suite of ancillary items are also available, from installation and sealing kits through to washers, fixing dowels and BoardFIX.J-Drain Linear and J-Drain Wall are recent additions to the family of wetroom products from Jackoboard. These products provide what the company calls a high-tech design solution to enable the creation of a totally minimalist walk-in shower. Both products are designed be used in combination with Jackoboard Sloping Boards for the floor and Plano Boards for the walls, to provide everything needed for a “highly fashionable and innovative walk-in shower solution”.“From a design point of view, these products are completely on-trend, given that the minimalist look for walk-in showers is very popular at the moment,” Jackon says. “Achieving this with a highly effective drain solution, which also showcases the tiling to maximum effect, is a key selling point for these new products, used together with Jackoboard backerboards.”
