This project, to coat approximately 2000 sq metres of asbestos roof with the BBA Approved Asbestsoeal system is a lesson for all in correct health and safety. Liquasil provides all approved installers with H&S training as standard. This deals with correct use of netting, scaffold, walkways, work platforms and waste water filtration from asbestos roof cleaning. Having already completed 500sq metres on a unit a year previously, the contractor was invited back to complete the rest of the block, which is the best possible endorsement.

In 2010, Protech where approached by The Clegg Group for a renovation project of an eight storey 1930’s building.Originally known as Shaftesbury House, the building was opened in 1938 to house migrant workers in Leeds that had previously been living in appalling conditions. The development had deteriorated and was eventually closed and boarded up in 1998. As part of a regeneration programme of the area, Leeds City Council co ordinated the redevelopment of the site into what is now known as Greenhouse, a mixed-use block of eco-flats.  

The Bath Spa University development is an attractive courtyard design with individual houses for up to 10 students where 561 will be housed in these new residential units amidst the beautiful countryside. The objective of the scheme was to deliver with minimal disruption to the student's experience on a tight schedule maximising the use of the summer holiday period to suit delivering the programme deadline. Phase 2 of the Bath Spa University development consists of over eight blocks, each utilising an application of external wall insulation covering 4,800m2with a value of £665.000.

The National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dún Laoghaire, Dublin, is a hospital rehabilitation treatment for patients who have a physical or cognitive disability due to illness or injury. The new 17,000msq development at the hospital included a fit for purpose ward accommodation block comprising 120 single ensuite isolation rooms with integrated therapy spaces, a new sports hall, hydrotherapy unit, links to the existing building which will ensure full integration between the new development and the existing hospital on the site, and significant campus infrastructure upgrades.

A newly built student accommodation block in Liverpool features an attractive, colourful external finish, thanks to Cembrit’s Cembonit cladding boards.Plato House is a purpose built student development comprising 86 spacious student rooms complete with a kitchen, en-suite bathrooms and high speed Wi-Fi throughout. Supplied via Vivalda of Manchester, Pemberton-based cladding contractor, Bak Cladding Solutions installed approximately 1000m2 of Cembonit cladding in a combination of Tufa, Pearl and Sand colours.

At the end of 2021 we were approached by a couple looking to build their dream retirement home in Braemar.The client's wished to maximise the main aspect to the West, within the tight width of the site, by creating a double height living room with a glazed gable.The final design consisted of a one-and-a-half story dwelling. The client's also chose to install a Mechanical Ventilation & Heat Recovery and Air Source Heat Pump system, with heating supplemented by a feature wood burning stove.

Inspired by and integrated within the natural landscape around it, the River Building at Grace Farms, which was designed by SANAA, gently slopes, bends and ‘pools’ with its surroundings.For a place in which people gather to experience nature, encounter the arts, pursue justice, foster community and explore faith, the use of glass, steel, concrete and wood is particularly fitting. In the building’s bathrooms, d line sanitary ware was used for its simple lines and the natural rawness of its material.

Mapei systems have been used in the construction of a swimming pool at the American School in London, St John’s Wood. Complete waterproofing and ceramic tiling solutions were installed over a nine month period to areas in the pool tank and changing room interiors and exteriors. The project was completed whilst the school remained open, which meant materials had to be installed quickly and with as little disruption as possible, without compromising on quality. Accoya was chosen for its long-lasting benefits which are required for demanding coastal settings such as these. Accoya was also selected as the ideal weatherboard material for the Christchurch residence due to its exterior, above ground guarantee of 50 years. Accoya wood was used for all the Bevelback weatherboards which clad the building and are finished using black Dulux matt paint. It is a vast expanse of green, steel and light coloured wood, with fixtures that take their names after regional landmarks, including those in the Philippines. The Asia Pacific headquarters houses employees from a number of its portfolio products such as YouTube. Lorient’s Batwing® acoustic and smoke perimeter seals and the popular LAS8012 si drop seals were specified.

Optima windows were chosen for the construction of 18 houses, 38 flats and two retail units as part of a regeneration scheme in Maidstone, Kent. Housing association Golding Homes has invested £50m in a three phase regeneration project to transform and improve the former Park Wood estate in Maidstone. The scheme involved providing over 200 new homes, mainly family houses, as well as new community facilities including new shops, and a much wider package of investment to improve the local area.

The basement of a chalet in the Waadtländer Alps was converted into a self-contained apartment. As fixed components of the multi-functional element, the sliding doors play a rhythmical game with the adjacent monochrome niches. When closed, the rear wall appears homogeneous as it is made completely of fir wood. The striking colour scheme that becomes visible when the doors are pushed to the side indicates various functions. The architects chose HAWA Junior 80 B hardware for the three sliding doors that run in a concealed track.

We’ve given a Victorian office building a modern makeover by replacing the existing washrooms with a modern new design. Our flush fronted Alto toilet cubicles, which are designed to provide a virtually seamless façade, were finished with an attractive dark wood effect Engineered Veneer to ensure a consistency of colour for each cubicle door. Laminated duct panels were installed behind the toilets and urinals in a soft grey colour and we also designed bespoke white Corian vanity units.

London’s so-called Loom building is full of stories that unravel and offer glimpses into its rich history. It is not often that architects, in this case Duggan Morris, have the opportunity to design a perfect link between both modern and ancient. One of the architects’ solutions was to use Troldtekt 2000 x 600mm natural wood wool acoustic ceiling panels. These provide an attractive link between the different spaces in this together with reusing many original old materials to restore attractive life into this previously neglected space.

Accoya was used by architects Ignacio Capapé and Justo Orgaz, because of its durability and impressive environmental credentials, which appealed to the School’s objective to use sustainable materials throughout the project. The school also required a wood which would withstand an external environment with very variable weather conditions, requiring minimum maintenance or treatment of which Accoya is known for. A total of 15 m3 of Accoya was distributed by Elaborados y Fabricados Gámiz for the project, and was prepared by the carpentry firms Perez Massot, S.L. and Gradhermetic.

The Niittysilta bridge was originally designed with a larch decorative outer layer by the famous Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa. The bridge was constructed by the Helsinki city technical department in 2002 to enable the public to easily cross over a small creek but after 14 years the Larch had decayed and had to be replaced. In need of a virtually rot free, durable and stable wood, Accoya was selected to replace the Larch. Thanks to Accoya’s stability and durability benefits it posed as the ideal material to restore the bridge.

Explore the project. White sandy beaches, a sea with crystal-clear waters that you can dive into to experience vivid colours and unique, unspoiled nature. This is the collective image of Zanzibar, an otherworldly place where the striking Emerald Resort recently opened. A space marked by luxury, intimacy, and cosiness where Atlas Concorde porcelain tiles were chosen for all the rooms. Different earthy looks are used in each room, producing a style capable of guiding guests on a journey between the sought-after vistas of the West and an exotic ambiance. Deployed in a number of different shades, from dark hues to softer tones, wood-effect tiles cover a variety of areas of the resort. The intense natural and authentic character of wood comes alive on the surface of the porcelain tiles, conveying the timeless appeal of the original material in a contemporary design. And so it is that the rooms, kids club, and some of the shops in the resort were transformed into spaces with a simple but welcoming aesthetic. Combined with stone-look tiles, wood-effect porcelain tiles are also featured in the Asian restaurant. The marriage of Western and Eastern culture, where the sophistication of an avant-garde style is combined with the allure of the magic of the Rising Sun. Stone-effect stoneware tiles reproduce the veins, shading, and suggestions of natural stone, creating a perfect synthesis of beauty and functionality. Used in different areas of the Emerald Resort, these surfaces create a contemporary look that blends perfectly with the architecture of another age. Completing the design of the resort are concrete-effect and marble-effect tiles. The concrete-effect tiles used for one of the building's restaurants create an industrial style that is both striking and practical. Tiles from Atlas Plan, the Atlas Concorde brand of large slabs, clad the sinks in the luxurious suites. The different collections used underscore the ability of the Atlas Concorde range to meet a wide variety of design and stylistic requirements. The final result is a harmonious stylistic mix where beauty coexists with technologically advanced high quality.

The purpose: Water penetration into classrooms alerted theOfsted “outstanding” rated Colchester County HighSchool for Girls in Essex to a problem with its roofs.Its premises advisors, Archer Building Consultancy,turned to Langley to offer technical support for themost efficient best-value rectification, with fundingprovided by the school’s governing body, The AlphaTrust.Our solution: We carried out an in-depth roof condition report which highlightedthat the four flat asphalt and 10° pitched copper standing seamroofs urgently need repair.We advised the most efficient solution and use of resources wasto strip the copper roof back to the plywood deck and form a newwaterproof layer from our TA-30 Flat Roofing System and theasphalt roofs overlaid with TA-30 and our Liquid Roofing System.By leaving the original roof, we were able to minimise disruption.In the process, we assessed the roofs for their suitability forphotovoltaic (PV) installation, then helped address energy costs:one over a three-storey building was deemed appropriate. Finally,in partnership with Archers, we supported the detail required toapply for Salix funding to cover the supply and installation of thePV array.

In September 2022, Bradbury Group installed eight ClassicAL doors at a low-rise block of flats for Central Bedfordshire Council.The replacement doors installed were a combination of Front Entrance and Rear entrance doors, providing fire integrity and security protection to the communal housing, as well as Network Communication Systems Limited, NCS, Chorus remote access management. The new intelligent door sets were designed to replace existing doors which were aged and not secure, leading to several instances of anti-social behaviour.

London-based architect, WHAT_Architecture has specified CUPA PIZARRAS’ CUPACLAD 101 Logic as the ideal rainscreen cladding system for a new and unusual housing block in Peckham. Crucial to this decision was the system’s ease of installation and its natural aesthetic, which helped the contemporary design to also complement the surrounding and traditional urban landscape. We chose the CUPACLAD 101 Logic as its design layout also reflects that of the brick base, without actually using brick,” said Diana Kulacka, Project Architect from WHAT_Architecture.

Kensington Row is a residential development of apartments and penthouses in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London W14, design by the architect company Squire and Partners. The development comprises 160 apartments over 4 blocks and the flats are a mix of private and social rented. In order, to protect the façade elements and ensuring the protection of the building against driving rain and moisture increasing the building energy efficiency minimizing the condensation risk, Effisus Vapour FR and Breather FR Class A1 Membrane so as Effisus Ecofacade P-Fix, were applied.

Face fixed panels on constant display on this student accommodation block meant that the original rivet specification was changed to a powder-coated self-drilling fastener, to eliminate the inherent problem of damage often caused by riveters denting or scratching the panels.Fixfast was also able to colour-match the fasteners to a unique NCS colour required, enabling the fasteners to seamlessly blend in with the panels."Good service, quick response, quick advisory on delivery dates. Castle Court in Sheffield was originally constructed in 1962 by Sheffield City Council. Comprising of three-hundred and three apartments in a single apartment block, this project was a massive investment for the area at the time. NorDan alu-clad StormGuard windows had been selected as part of the regeneration works in 1991 and to this very day, the windows are still in excellent working condition – there has not been a single call back on any of the products installed. This is a true testament to the fact that NorDan windows are, and always have been, exceptionally high performing.

In July 2021, construction began on 242 new homes on land to the east of Coldean Lane, Brighton, bringing new affordable options to the area.A mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom flats in six blocks of five to seven storeys were detailed as part of the plans and made best use of the sloping 3.3-hectare site in which the development was to be situated.PMC Construction were contracted to undertake the works and through the project’s architects, HGP Architects, Sika was called upon to provide a waterproofing solution for the flats.

Damage from the build up of moisture results in mould, mildew and condensation on windows and in the loft space. Additionally, where there is a moisture problem in the wall cavity, damage readily occurs to the insulation and wall ties, affecting wall plates, the timber frame itself and installed joinery. Preventing this from occuring is obviously a priority in the minds of all designers and builders interested in quality construction. SureCav Provides the Solution. Gregg’s has an eye-catching livery with its logo of large white lettering, four orange coloured blocks and the sky blue background The façade was updated with 2mm aluminium cassette panelling coated in Evolution ‘Peat Fire’. This shade is similar to Corten but there is no run-off or staining of surrounding material. The panelling has feature perforations which create an interesting effect, enhanced by the consistent inconsistency of the weathered steel appearance of the coating. The façade will look smart for years with a guarantee of up to 25 years for gloss, colour and adhesion.

Falkener House is a 17 storey, residential apartment block located near Coventry city centre. It was originally constructed in 1968 to provide council accommodation.New regulations stipulate that buildings of over 18 metres in height must be fire resistant and classify to A2-s1, d0. KEIM Paints are the only paint manufacturer, to date, that meet this classification.Leicester based Elhance Limited, who specialise in cladding and roofing installation and repair, contacted KEIM to provide a fire resistant paint coating. Bryan Roe, Senior Sales Executive of KEIM Mineral Paints, visited site and produced a comprehensive specification. His findings included moss and green growth over the previously painted concrete, particularly on the south elevation and corners. A power spray was recommended to thoroughly clean the surfaces as part of the pre-paint preparation.Upon cleaning, it was found that the previous paintwork was in good condition. KEIM Soldalit-ME was specified due to its A2-s1, d0 fire classification. Soldalit-ME is a durable exterior paint that has the added benefit of breaking down organic material and contaminants, which will keep the surfaces cleaners for longer.The facades will not require decoration for another 10-15 years, if not more.A further two tower blocks, also situated in Coventry, have been commissioned to be painted using KEIM Soldalit-ME again due to its fire resistant and durable benefits

Using funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority and the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership Growth Deal, £82million was used to improve accessibility and capacity.The new station building will house up to five retail units and has passenger facilities including new waiting rooms, toilets and ticket machines. The new multi-storey car park has been constructed above the new station building with integrated lift access from the car park to station level. The upgraded facilities include Townscape CT Block Seats with Hardwood Deck Seat Tops to provide additional seating to the busy Rail/Bus/Taxi interchange. The Contractor was Buckingham Group.

The JV40Bis office building, located between Calle Josefa Valcárcel and Calle Telémaco in Madrid, features more than 8,700m² distributed across seven floors. Thanks to its architecture comprised of classic lines, this building by the architect Francisco Mangado provides a striking contrast to the glass facades of the adjacent office buildings.The main architectural goal was to create a healthy work environment, prioritizing the well-being of workers in terms of visual, thermal and acoustic comfort. This aim was achieved and the building was awarded LEED Platinum certification, issued by the U.S. Green Building Council. This certification classifies the project as a sustainable, energy-efficient construction with reduced emissions and a satisfactory indoor environment; in this case, this leads to comfortable workspaces.All this is, in part, thanks to the more than 700 Bandalux Premium Plus shades that guarantee optimal solar management given their minimum gap (space between the fabric and bracket). These technical shades integrate well with the restrained, timeless aesthetics of a large, diaphanous space that encompasses work zones, relaxation areas and leisure spaces in which the user adapts solar incidence to the requirements of any given moment.The Polyscreen® 550 fabric in White Linen can block up to 96% of sunlight and it provides the visual and thermal comfort necessary in the workspace. Its high energy performance leads to savings in terms of heating and air conditioning. Park Central and Quay Central are part of the £5 billion redevelopment Liverpool Waters project to transform 150 acres of historic docklands, the single biggest regeneration project in the history of Liverpool. The Central Docks neighbourhood will be a world class business and leisure district with over 2,000,000 square feet of mixed use floor space, including 710,000 square feet of office space and over 1,000 new waterfront apartments in buildings up to 44 storeys high. PROJECT INFOPark Central is the second phase of the Central Docks residential development. It offers 129 one and two-bedroomed apartments over 14 storeys.Quay Central comprises two blocks offering 96 one-bedroomed and 141 two-bedroomed apartments alongside 5,000 square feet of commercial space and undercroft parking for 50 cars.Elevation design is driven by the historic context of the site, being situated near the Waterloo Warehouse within the wider Waterloo Docks. The site is bound by two contrasting edge conditions. To the south are buildings with a strong industrial character and to the north is a soft landscaped park. The development presents two different external characters depending on the elevation: the south, facing Waterloo Warehouse, features regular punctuated openings with formal recesses while the north pushes out with the use of piers and louvres, expressive depth and verticality towards the green public space.The brick selected for the projects is Woodside Mixture from Forterra’s Butterley range. Made at the company’s Accrington factory, it is a wirecut red clay brick with a printed texture that complements the site’s historic context

Sitting adjacent to Manchester Victoria station, the £185m New Victoria development is a two-phase scheme initially involving two residential towers of 20 and 25 storeys providing 520 one, two and three bed apartments. The second phase being a 13-storey office block. The façade concept is a ‘hooped envelope around a glass box’ with the ‘envelope’ consisting of vertical panels from the first floor to roof level. As with any reinforced concrete slab design, the project is at risk of punching shear failure. Which traditionally has been resolved by adding further concrete, such as downstand beams or localised thickened column heads. However these measures require complex formwork and significantly reduce the benefits of the flat slab design. By incorporating the Schöck Bole shear rail system – with its ready-to-install reinforcement element consisting of double-headed studs with spacing bars to ensure correct positioning – installation is cost-effective and significantly faster than traditional loose links. In fact, Shaun Farrell of Mayo Civils, the concrete frame contractor, comments: “We were pleased to find that by using the Bole shear rail system on the project, installation was four times faster than if we had used shear links.” Shaun goes on to explain that: “when using traditional links the installation time is increased because twelve ties are involved, six of which have to be tied to the bottom steel matt, which involves getting your hands between the rebar. With the Schöck Bole six-stud shear rail, it only involves two ties to the top matt”.
