Hardie® Plank - Unique Seaside Regeneration

The facade of Rollercoaster House is made up of render, a curtain wall system and Hardie® Plank cladding. It is the first time that site manager David Tomlinson has worked with the product, who states that the coastal environment conditions were the main factor when deciding which type of cladding to use. ‘With timber, David says, ‘however good a product you are going to get, it wouldn’t have had the same lifespan as Hardie® Plank at the end of the day. PVC discolours, especially the darker colours, but I am expecting and hoping that Hardie® Plank will stand the test of time.’

J & P Building Systems
J&P explored a number of possibilities with the precast contractor, Border Concrete Products and the main contractor Expanded Structures, culminating in a proposal to utilise J&P’s TSS invisible connectors.
The innovative solution involved the TSS units being rotated through 90°, to accommodate the bearer within the slender 125mm rib section (see image above).
The additional challenge of the supporting downstand being radiused was easily accommodated due to the flexibility of the TSS units, and the detailed dimensional/setting-out information provided by J&P to the contractors ensured accurate positioning for the varying angles required.
Wilfred Brown Building, Brunel University, Uxbridge

Kawneer’s AA®100 curtain wall, AA®540 vents, and series 190 and AA®720 doors were specified by the regular Kawneer users for the latest redevelopment of the Wilfred Brown Building at the university in Greater London. The mullion-drained capped and SSG (Structurally Silicone Glazed) curtain wall forms a new sawtooth façade to the first and second floors and is complemented by the AA®540 window vents which are top-hung and also Structurally Silicone Glazed, series 190 heavy-duty doors to the main entrance, and the thermally-superior AA®720 doors.
Data Centre - Green Roof

This project involved the construction of a Data Centre just outside Dublin, with a focus on incorporating a green roof. MOY collaborated with the client, their design team, the main contractor, and the roofing installer to execute the roof installation for an extensive green roof. The green roof utilized MOY's Paraflex FM Global approved Warm Roof System, featuring Paratherm T 120mm insulation board and an anti-root cap sheet. The final touch included the installation of a sedum blanket grown in Ireland, containing native Irish sedum species registered in the national biodiversity database, creating a durable and vibrant living roof.

Residential, commercial, as well as valuable retail space now occupy the area, collectively known as ‘The
Urban Village’.
Construction of the new-build 9-storey residential apartment block by the main contractor R&M Williams,
saw RCM engaged as an important supplier.
As well as providing the essential aluminium support frame, RCM also ensured timely delivery of the colourful Swisspearl façade. Each panel was fabricated by RCM to exact specified size, saving precious time on the construction of the building.

For one of the world’s largest self-service bag drop zone in Gatwick North Terminal SAS designed a bespoke, hand-formed 45° angle bulkhead to surround the SAS200 islands. Presenting a clean finish, the 'knife-edge' feature provides a precision-engineered and dramatic aesthetic. This architectural metalwork solution frames the ceiling islands and stands out against the dark grey ceiling.
SAS600 rafts were specified over walkways to guide visitors from the entrance to the main check-in area. This design aesthetic and the ease of integration with signs fulfilled the client brief to improve airport ‘wayfinding’.
Stannah lift products star in spectacular new entrance to Leeds Station

Opened on 3rd January 2016, the new southern entrance to Leeds Station features four Stannah escalators and two passenger lifts.
Following multiple escalator and lift installations at the Midlands hub of Birmingham New Street and Grand Central for Network Rail and Mace, Stannah were again the chosen supplier and installer of all vertical transport within the southern entrance building (known as the LSSE scheme.), this time working with main contractor Carillion to fulfil the brief. The work was completed by the Stannah Escalator & Moving Walkway Department and Stannah Major Projects team in just twelve weeks.

Our client designed and built a spectacular contemporary new home. He decided to include a sauna to
complement his level deck central bathtub in the master bathroom.
The brief was to create a light modern cabin with clean low iron glazing to the main facia. The space
allocated was wide but shallow and the challenge was to achieve a cabin which appeared spacious and
comfortable for the two occupants to enjoy together. We chose a free standing, multi- climate heater
around which carefully designed bespoke benching was constructed in smooth blond Aspen to match
the deep horizontal wall boards.

Working with architects, CMI Workplace and main contractor, Overbury, Style was specified to install a fully automatic Dorma Moveo Glazed ComfortDrive moveable wall adjacent to a Skyfold, the fully automatic, vertically rising operable wall, housed in the ceiling cavity. After standing vacant for some years, the iconic Tower Gardens Pavilion in Skegness has been completely refurbished to create a multi-use council facility. Delivering flexibility to the main hall, partitioning expert Style was contracted to install a Dorma Hüppe Variflex moveable wall, successfully creating one large and one smaller room that can accommodate two events running concurrently. A sustainable and cost-effective option, the Variflex elements are manufactured separately to the frame, which means only panel facings need to be changed in the future, to match a new interior décor for example, or if one becomes damaged.

Future-proofing their facilities, Hirwaun Primary School included space flexibility as a key feature of a new £10.5m building, that opened in Autumn 2020. Allowing teachers to quickly adapt one of the main classrooms, Style worked with contractor Morgan Sindall and architects, Boyesrees, to install a Dorma Hüppe Variflex moveable wall system.
With an impressive 55dB Rw acoustic rating, once the wall is in place, separate classes can run undisturbed on either side, making this an ideal solution for isolating pupil bubbles, as well as being intensely practical in accommodating a wide variety of ongoing daily activities.

In 2018 South Ayrshire Council appointed main contractor Portakabin to build a proposed new state-of-the-art Early Years Centre in Ayr, Scotland. The £2.2 million Cherry Tree Early Years Centre development now provides the largest modular modern learning environment in Scotland.
Ensuring that children and staff would have a safe and comfortable environment was at the forefront of the specification process and needed to include the best quality flooring possible.
The final choice of products was awarded to international flooring specialist Gerflor, who supplied 300m2 of their Taralay Impression Comfort and award-winning Taralay Impression Control products.

Kingham Hill School was originally built by the Christian philanthropist Charles Edward Baring Young in 1886. Today, with just over 340 pupils, it caters for both girls and boys aged 11-18.

Pendock column casings reach new heights at St. Bart’s Hospital

St. Bartholomew’s Hospital was originally founded in 1123 and the latest design was handled by architects HOK International Ltd, as part of a major redevelopment, which involved the hospital staying open during construction.Key features of the design are four Pendock Radius column casings that span the floor to ceiling height of almost 18 metres, which are located on one side of the main atrium. In addition, a further 65 casings of between 2.7 and 4.1 metres in height were installed on different floors within corridors, waiting rooms and admin areas. All casings were bespoke manufactured.

The New Independent Whitbed specified for the main flooring provided the aesthetic qualities and character required for large areas of floor in a luxury development of this kind.New Independent Whitbed was selected for 1860m² of flooring, 454 linear metres of stair treads and 1,300 linear metres of skirtings. Two fireplaces were also produced using New Independent Whitbed as well as the bath surrounds and bath steps. Independent Grove Whitbed was selected for internal wall tiling and Bowers Roach for feature panels on the external facades.

With retail outlets battling against the lure of online shopping, a strong brand is crucial.
By incorporating its distinctive green logo within the entrance matting, The Lexicon immediately communicates its brand to shoppers.
The six entrance points into the centre use the Medium Rectangle INTRAshape entrance matting tiles with INTRAlux Select Grey 73 fibre and Medium Slim Rectangle tiles with ribbed rubber.
The two main entrance mats at the centre are also inset with the Lexicon logo in ribbed Lime 697 fibre.
With entrances that are regularly open to the elements, moisture absorption was a key factor in the specification.
ASF Steel Quayside Post with Rail & Tension Cables, Stockport

This was not actually a quayside application, instead the quayside profile was chosen as the curved profile doesn't create a 'natural ladder' and better discourages people climbing over from a pedestrian area into traffic.The curved profile was set up to have 2 solid rails and 4 tension cables which were used to bridge the gaps between the main rails equidistantly.Laser profiled steel posts with knuckles for rails and flanges to host the cables were manufactured as bespoke solutions. The outcome is a successful balance between a utilitarian piece of street furniture and a product with a decent amount of design and architectural integrity.
Hotel Russell, London - FireMaster Fire Curtains

The existing ornate and decorative features of the hotel, meant that the fire curtains needed to integrate with the existing parts of the building that were remaining. This included a four sided, marble clad atrium in one of the main entrance halls, which covers two floors.
There were four fire curtains installed around the first floor of the atrium therefore reinstating fire separation between floors.
Fire curtains offering up to 3 hours fire resistance were also installed in the new hotel kitchens, preventing fire from spreading from kitchen areas to the public dining rooms and bar.
LEEDS TRAIN STATION, YORKSHIRE

Dural worked in conjunction with Northern Star flooring to renovate a section of floor within the new south entrance concourse. Northern Star Flooring is an experienced resin floor contractor based in the North of England. The first phase began in 2018 and the project involved the redevelopment and modernisation of the main southern concourse. The plans also included a new roof and stunning glazed façade in addition to more floor space. The flooring specified will be used by the station’s 100,000 daily users. Dural has been integral in offering technical advice on how to install their coloured movement joints for this huge expanse of floor.
Mackie Mayor Food Hall in Manchester's Northern Quarter

This Grade II listed building was first opened in 1858 by Mayor Mackie of Manchester as part of the Smithfield fresh produce market but it remained empty and neglected for years until recently restored to its’ former glory.
In addition to the large seating area in the main restaurant hall, a rear external annex was created with a glass roof in keeping with the building’s semi-industrial heritage. Bolton Gate Company were commissioned to design, manufacture and install collapsible gates with special removable bottom tracks to accommodate the sloping floor level to seal off this area when outside trading hours.

Disney's Hollywood Hotel, a 600 room art deco style hotel themed to 1930s Hollywood glamour.
Disney Explorers Lodge, with 750 rooms. It features an exploration theme with four main areas: Polynesian, Asian, South American rainforest and African plains.
Lorient supplied Batwing® acoustic and smoke seals to all three of the hotels across the Disneyland Resort.

Client: Northacre Consultant: Vinci Technology Centre Main Contractor: Multiplex Main Product Used: Emseal ColorsealThe development of The Broadway creates six buildings on a plan designed to frame views of the Grade-1 listed 55 Broadway across from Victoria Street in Westminster, providing residential, office and retail workspace and a new public space linking Victoria Street with Broadway and Dacre Street. The new building elevations were specifically designed “to reference the local vernacular in the rhythm of facades”, using materials sympathetic to the traditional sandstone and brick of the adjacent historic Conservation Area. The façades and their constituent precast panels were therefore a critical element in the design and construction process, as was ensuring that the joints between them could safely accommodate the anticipated thermal and any other structural movements, whilst always maintaining a watertight seal. This was further complicated by the façade design and necessary construction tolerances, meaning that the joints varied in width, resulting in high joint movement capability demands. A test programme was established with Vinci Testing Houses to determine the most suitable joint solution available to meet these challenges in detail - and the clear winner was Emseal Colorseal. This is a unique, preformed, double-sided, silicone-faced movement joint sealing system, that is bonded in position without invasive metal anchoring. Colorseal is CE-marked and ETA-certified to provide a watertight seal with 100% joint movement capability, thermal insulation, UV stability, and colour coordination with vertical or horizontal substrates.

Looking to install an EN16005 compliant manual activated revolving door with integrated air curtain, the main contractor, Graham Construction, got in touch FAAC Entrance Solutions to submit their proposal for this project.Solution: FAAC presented the RD100 Revolving Door as the best product for this entrance, not only for representing a more cost-effective solution, but also by installing a power assisted automatic door rather than a manual one, made for a safer and more user-friendly entrance, thus providing better value overall. With built in LED lighting and finished in Matt Graphite Grey, the new door complete with COBA Plan.a, the most durable entrance matting, now forms part of the modern and welcoming new entrance of 35DP.
