Bespoke Premium Amazon Eco Enclosure, Watchmoor Point

The Bike Storage Company

Watchmoor Point is a well-established industrial estate in the heart of Surrey. Epiphany undertook a full warehouse and office refurbishment of the site. As a modern warehouse refurbishment in Camberley, targeting a Net Zero Carbon accreditation, Ephiphany contacted the Bike Storage Company to provide a cycle storage solution for the site to promote active travel intentionally. We partnered to develop a bespoke Amazon Eco Cycle Enclosure that would house over 20 cycles, including E-Bike charging and accessible cycle parking. The shelter, clad in beautiful, Sapele FSC-certified timber, provided cycle parking and contributed to sustainability. The racks used in the shelter were our popular Semi-Vertical Cycle Racks, which makes the most of limited floor space by utilising height. This solution reduced the enclosure's footprint while maintaining storage efficiency, a testament to our commitment to sustainable solutions.Another way to increase the site's net zero accreditation was to include a sedum roof in the shelter. Sedum green roofing involves using low-growing, succulent plants from the Sedum genus on rooftops. Benefits include reducing the urban heat island effect, supporting biodiversity, and enhancing aesthetics. To ensure security and aesthetics, the enclosure's single-leaf timber-clad gate is secured with a Fatemaster mechanical code lock, ensuring that cycles are safe and secure for their stay. Integrated internal PIR lighting ensures the cycle storage is accessible but only lit when needed. Finally, to help identify the cycle storage for employees and site visitors, a laser-cut vinyl bicycle motif was added to the exterior wall of the enclosure. Overall, the result was a beautiful, bespoke cycle enclosure that met the needs of the refurbished industrial units it served.

1 Triton Square has undergone a comprehensive back-to-the-frame refurbishment and extension, providing a state-of-the-art prime headquarters office building located at the heart of the campus. It was completed to shell and core in 2021. During the design phase, we engaged the Bike Storage Company to assist in pursuing the BREEAM Outstanding status. Their involvement has been instrumental in establishing 1 Triton Square as one of the UK's leading sustainable HQs. We utilised our easy-to-use Two Tier Cycle Rack system to ensure the maximum amount of cycle storage with as little infrastructure and services as possible. Our expert design team was tasked with designing the layout of the internal cycle store, and we manufactured and installed the Two Tier Racks to house 532 cycles. Further, a high-security section of the store needed to be separated to provide parking for long-term and regular users and from the public-accessible cycle storage. We achieved this by installing our High-Security Anti-Climb Mesh Partitioning inside the store, which is accessible via a separate access-controlled entrance adjacent to the public entrance. Our High-Security Anti-Climb Mesh is a versatile security fencing or partitioning solution. We can install two—or three-meter-high panels and design and fit them around any terrain, ground height changes, or ceiling services, making it an excellent option where security is paramount.

Westminster Residential Cargo Bikehangar

Westminster Residential Cargo Bikehangar

Cyclehoop

Cargo Bikes are quickly gaining popularity for domestic use, with families finding them ideal for the school run, shopping, transport and leisure. They are a fun, environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to car ownership. Unfortunately, these benefits are often only available to households with sufficient storage space. In partnership with Cyclehoop, Westminster council was the first local authority in the country to provide secure on-street cargo bike parking for residents, with a Cargo Bikehangar installed in St Johns Wood.Residential cycle parking in WestminsterWith a large proportion of high-density housing stock including town houses and apartment buildings in the borough, on-street cycle parking is key to enabling residents to cycle. Westminster council’s existing Bikehangar scheme boasts over 180 units, and management is undertaken in-house. The council aims to reach carbon net zero by 2030, and cutting transport emissions by encouraging cycling and cargo bike use is an important element in the strategy. Westminster Council has joined the Cargo Bike charter, pledging to support cargo bike usage for businesses and residents alike. This hangar is … the first Cargo Bikehangar in Westminster and the first in the country that is fully accessible, step-free from the carriageway which I think is a huge deal. We want to make cycling accessible to more people and installing this kind of hangar means that for the first time residents will have somewhere safe to keep a cargo bike.– Cllr Max Sullivan – Deputy Cabinet member for city Management and Cycling Champion for Westminster CouncilThe need for residential cargo bike parkingThe problem of cargo bike parking was of great concern to resident Suami Rocha, a national standards cycling instructor and father of three. Prior to the Cargo Bikehangar, the family cargo bike had to be stored upright in a cupboard with the handlebars folded. This made usage inconvenient, and often prevented Suami’s partner from using the bike without assistance. Security was also a problem; when Suami was unable to lift and fold the bike due to an injury, it had to be stored outside, making it a target for thieves. While a bid to steal the bike was unsuccessful, hundreds of pounds worth of damage was inflicted during the attempt. These experiences led Suami to campaign for external storage for the family cargo bike. Over a number of years, he contacted the council and the relevant cabinet members and gained the support of the London Cycling Campaign and Westminster Healthy Streets. His persistence paid off, and Westminster Council contracted Cyclehoop to supply and install the Cargo Bikehangar in early 2024.The Cargo BikehangarLocated just a short walk from Suami’s home, the Cargo Bikehangar provides space for two cargo bikes. It features two ground anchors to lock the bikes, an innovative fail-secure lock mechanism and robust security fittings throughout. It has been awarded the Sold Secure Powered Cycle Diamond accreditation, the highest available in the sector. The Cargo Bikehangar is designed around usability, it is installed parallel to the road and opens directly onto the carriageway, eliminating the need for heavy cargo bikes to be lifted up or down a curb. A gas spring assisted door and solar powered internal light make loading and unloading convenient, while a high visibility bollard protects the loading space in front of the unit from being blocked by a vehicle. Now Suami and his family can access their bike quickly and conveniently with no need to lift it or fold it. They can rest easy, safe in the knowledge that the bike is stored securely. The second space in the unit was also rented to a second cargo bike user within days of becoming available, making efficient use of the parking bay the unit occupies. As cutting transport emissions becomes ever more important in the push for carbon net-zero, supporting alternatives to car use is a great way for local authorities to progress towards their targets. By providing secure on-street storage, councils can help residents make the switch to a cargo bike and reduce the number of journeys made by car.If you have any questions about the Cargo Bikehangar or setting up an on-street residential cycle storage scheme, please contact our expert sales team.Contact UsAs we can see today, the types of bikes in London are changing. You need the right bike for the right journey for the right number of people. To accommodate that, you need Bikehangars like this. I’m hugely grateful to Westminster for being the first in the city to deliver a Bikehangar like this for family bikes and cargo bikes that members of the public can use. Will NormanWalking and Cycling Commissioner – Greater London Authority

Cargo Bikehangar - London Locks

Cargo Bikehangar - London Locks

Cyclehoop

Cargo bikes can be a great asset for businesses, offering fast, cost-effective logistics in urban areas. However, secure storage can be a barrier to operating a cargo bike fleet, particularly for small premises or businesses operating out of domestic properties. Find out how Cyclehoop helped solve this problem for London Locks.London Locks are a locksmiths based in Tower Hamlets, east London. Founded in 2004 by Lloyd Morgan, the business is Master Locksmiths Association approved and offers a range of locksmith and security services. As part of their Green Policy, the business switched from a fleet of vans to e-cargo bikes, purchasing their first cargo bike using a grant from the Zero Emissions Network (ZEN – a mayor of London Air Quality Fund project). Located on the CS2 route, London Locks found the cargo bike was perfect for callouts, and subsequently added another to their fleet. After moving to a new premises, the business could no longer store their bikes securely on-site. Instead, the bikes were stored half a mile away, making access inconvenient. As members of the Zero Emissions Network, Tower Hamlets Council were put in contact with London Locks and were able to connect them with funding from the Business Low Emission Neighbourhood to purchase external storage.London Locks’ new premises features a car parking space at the front of the building. As the Cyclehoop Cargo Bikehangar is designed to reallocate car parking spaces into dedicated cargo bike storage, it proved to be the ideal solution.Following a consultation to assess the feasibility of the site, Cyclehoop installed the unit in April 2024.Accommodating two cargo bikes (and potentially a third), London Locks effectively doubled the utilisation of the parking space, all just metres from their front door. The Cargo Bikehangar has been awarded Sold Secure Powered Cycle Diamond accreditation, with security features including an innovative fail-secure lock mechanism protected by a hardened steel plate, anti-lever plates on the door frames and security fixings throughout. As a business that utilises the power of the cargo bike, Cyclehoop is delighted to help make cargo bikes a viable option for businesses. If you would like to find out more about the Cargo Bikehangar or the funding streams available to businesses to support sustainable transport, please contact our expert sales team.Contact UsSecure cycle storage in general is a key barrier to overcome, especially for businesses operating in areas of high population density and limited space like Tower Hamlets. Ongoing contact and communication with businesses is key to maximising long lasting benefits of cargo bikes for businesses.Rob MortonPrincipal Transport Planner, London Borough of Tower Hamlets

Network of 130 Bikehangars delivered for Glasgow

Network of 130 Bikehangars delivered for Glasgow

Cyclehoop

Cyclehoop are set to introduce a major network of on-street cycle storage to neighbourhoods across Glasgow following a successful Bikehangar pilot scheme. With around 70% Glasgow’s homes in flat or tenements, finding safe spaces for cyclists to park their bike can be a real challenge when communal property rules often prevent storage on stairwells. Even then, having to carry bikes up and down flights of stairs can act as a deterrent to people cycling regularly. But the introduction of 130 Bikehangars on streets throughout Glasgow will support the growth of cycling in the city and make cycling a more attractive travel option that residents rely upon routinely.Councillor Anna Richardson, City Convener for Sustainability and Carbon Reduction, backed the scheme as a way to build greater reliance on more sustainable forms of transport as part of the effort to tackle the climate emergency.Councillor Anna Richardson said: “With so many of us in Glasgow living in tenements or flats, bike storage is a real issue for people who cycle or who are keen to take up cycling. Keeping bikes in stairwells can cause obstructions, which creates a safety risk and can put owners at odds with other residents. Bikes kept on stairwells are also at a greater risk of theft. But having access to secure storage that’s easy to use will take away a significant barrier that deters people from relying on a bike. Our new scheme with Cyclehoop will make using a bike more attractive and ensure how we get about Glasgow is more active and sustainable. Encouraging greater reliance on the bike as an ordinary mode of transport is a vital part of our efforts to decarbonise the city’s transport system.”
