London is a popular location for Versa Wall Pocket installations in the UK.The Versa Team recently visited Wetherby School in Kensington to install four single Wall Pocket dining systems in their multi-use hall – delivering seating for up to 80 students.The school chose custom graphics for the tables to reflect the school’s logo whilst also displaying the different school houses.Wall Pocket is an all-in-one dining system that stores into the wall requiring zero storage space yet delivering optimum capacity. Two monopitch polycarbonate roof canopies have more than doubled the covered dining space available at Hove Park School’s Nevill Campus, at a more cost-effective price point than a traditionally constructed solution.As part of an ongoing programme of facilities upgrades, the school had recently demolished their ageing dining block, replacing it with a modern modular building with a similar footprint. However, with student numbers rising by 100, additional space was still needed for students to eat and socialize.Streetspace supplied two TRITON Mono canopies, which wrap around two sides of the new dining block, providing seamless cover for staff and students. All works were completed within the summer holidays, with a full package including foundation construction, removal of two trees, and reinstatement of surfacing.

Versa tables aren’t just for dining! Wellington School were in need of a flexible, robust and multi-use dining furniture solution that could be used for a variety of activities throughout the school day. The furniture needed to stand up to years of daily use from over 1,300 students.Our Benchmark and ConverTables proved to be the perfect solution to meet their specific needs. The Benchmark table can be set up in under 10 seconds and provides a seating and tabling solution for up to 20 students, plus when it’s stored it takes up 44% less space than standard bulky stool tables! Wheelchair accessible picnic units have been designed for an outdoor seating and dining area at a students' union.

Architect: Simon Gill Architects. The brief for this project in Putney was to modernise the ground floor of this red-brick detached house, create a larger dining room and better connect the inside of the home with the garden. The end result is a complete transformation. Gone are the compressed spaces and smaller rooms and in their place is a large open-plan living area with seamless connection between the lounge, kitchen and dining room. These open plan spaces are filled with natural light thanks to a combination of Grand Slider II sliding doors and huge fixed frame picture windows.

Boxgrove’s multi-use hall was the perfect candidate for the Versa Wall Pocket system. They struggled daily with seating their students in a tight timeframe and only had a very limited area to store their dining furniture.Our teams installed two quadruple and one triple Wall Pocket systems in the hall, complete in the school’s brand colours. The school can now store over 17 metres of tables and benching in under 60cms on the wall – that’s seating for up to 80 students!Boxgrove now has a flexible system that is seriously space-efficient! The school has the ability to store all their dining furniture on three pockets mounted on the wall, which take up minimum space.The staff and students are delighted with the Wall Pockets and how they’ve freed up more space in their hall for other activities. In the words of the Premises Manager, Duane Hall: “We are extremely pleased with the Wall Pocket system as it is quick and easy to use. It has created more space in the dining hall and looks very stylish and modern.”

A new outdoor dining area has been created for The Buckingham School thanks to a series of robust and comfortable picnic tables from Broxap.

Two types of Welsh Slate roofing slates have helped breathe new life into the stunning Grade II listed dining hall of a top independent school. A total of 15,000 of Welsh Slate’s rectangular Cwt y Bugail and arrow-head Penrhyn Heather Blue slates now feature on the duo-pitch roof at Clifton College in Bristol. The three-storey dining hall/kitchen, which is one of, if not the biggest building in a cluster of stunning Victorian constructions, had not been re-roofed since it was built 156 years ago to a design by architect Charles Hansom.

NBDA Architects were working for Parkdean Resorts to renovate a number of their holiday parks across the UK and one of those parks was Trecco Bay in the stunning costal town of Porthcawl in South Wales. They were in need of a large shade and shelter structure that would provide weather protection to their visitors whilst dining alfresco and also double up as an all-weather outdoor entertainment area.The canopy they settled on for Trecco Bay was the Tarnhow Dome, which is a fantastic choice. This stunning canopy can span up to 12 metres and has an unlimited length, making it absolutely perfect for outdoor dining areas and for holding events and entertainment.

On this fast turnaround project we worked closely with Apteriors; Interior Design and Furniture Specialists and McLaren Construction to manufacture and supply outdoor concrete furniture for new multipurpose recreation and study area for New Regent’s College in London. A permit was granted to construct a new 2 two-storey standalone block at Bungay High School, with four new classrooms, a staff area and a new kitchen and dining facility.

Nishkam School required a complete end-to-end supply, delivery and installation of fixed and loose furniture in their stunning new-build West London school which spanned three floors and two wings. Sandringham High School in St Albans invited proposals for a covered walkway between their two dining halls along with some canopies over outside seating areas. With a very significant level change to contend with you can envisage how this project could have turned out; with two covered walkways ascending above the sets of steps at each end and a separate rectangular canopy between these walkways to cover the picnic tables. Contrast this with the canopy design achieved by the Streetspace team! An ambient asymmetric structure spanning the whole space vastly increasing its usefulness and aesthetic appeal.The School leadership Team have been sufficiently impressed to employ Streetspace projects to cover another area between buildings complete with a servery pod provide further covered dining and social space. Armourcoat have been specified throughout the VIVI restaurant, a 1960’s inspired eatery in the Centre Point building in London’s West End. VIVI promises to deliver traditional British food with an innovative twist.VIVI’s 290 cover dining room serving delicious British favourites has its interior design inspired by 1960’s colours and fabrics including a handmade chandelier by British designer Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt. The new restaurant, created by Rhubarb – the team behind Sky Garden and Verdi Italian Kitchen at the Royal Albert Hall, is part of a wider refurbishment of Richard Seifert’s celebrated Grade-II listed high-rise tower. Armourcoat finishes have been used to spectacular effect in the entrance lobby, restaurant reception, bar and dining area with close to 300m2 of hand finished Armourcoat polished plaster applied to the walls.

Looking to create a stunning place for couples to say, “I do”, entrepreneur and owner Richard Shell turned to Karndean’s versatile Opus range to create an extraordinary bespoke floor design for the ceremony hall, housed within a Georgian barn, and throughout the venue’s guest dining and social areas.

Camelot Primary School approached Hush Acoustics to help improve the acoustics with its large dining hall, which was achieved successfully through the installation of Hush Absorber 50A panels.Having been impressed with the ability of Hush Acoustics to effectively treat poor acoustic conditions within educational buildings in a previous project, the school’s executive headteacher approached the company to explore the potential for reducing noise levels in a number of areas.The key room to address, given how busy it can be at lunch and break times, was the dining hall. The high ceilings which feature in the hall create a large volume and it is typically built and decorated with materials that result in many hard surfaces. While these surfaces are highly durable and low maintenance, they can contribute to poor acoustic conditions.The dining hall had become excessively noisy and echoey at peak times, with a significant build-up of background noise resulting from sound reverberation. This is caused when sound waves arereflected off hard surfaces back into the room, meaning that sounds generated through routine use, such as talking, music playing and furniture being moved, become unbearably loud.MEETING THE CHALLENGEHush Acoustics was tasked to provide a solution to the reverberation and echoing problem. The company worked with executive headteacher James Robinson and the school trust previously to successfully address a similar issue at its nearby Cobourg Primary School in 2018 with outstanding results.Step one was for Hush Acoustics to conduct a site survey to gather the information needed for the reverberation calculations in areas of concern. Whilst the survey concentrated on the dining hall, the team was also asked to assess another school hall and four classrooms which were regarded as being very poor acoustically with a view to improving these in future.The survey gathered information on material finishes within the room and the size of the areas as well as providing an opportunity to explore the possible positioning of the panels. The Hush team was then able to feed this information into its calculation software to arrive at the best possible reduction in reverberation.THE SOLUTION24x Hush Absorber 50A panels were mounted to the existing soffit because of the limited space available on the walls, where sound absorber panels are often positioned. The 1200 x 1200mm panels, which feature a 50mm thick acoustic foam and supporting brackets, were installed symmetrically within the bays that formed the ceiling and finished in an outer fabric colour that is consistent with the rest of the room.In terms of the acoustic improvements that could be achieved given the building design and usage, the installation of the absorber panels sought to reduce reverberation by half. The initial acoustic survey estimated that the dining room’s overall mid-frequency reverberation time (T mf ) was 6.01 seconds, but after the Hush Absorber 50A panels were fitted, this was cut to 2.97 seconds.Installation was completed during the school holidays by Hush Acoustics to avoid any disruption to the day-to-day operation of the school.
