Central M40, Banbury

Knauf Insulation Ltd

Central M40, a 70 acre industrial estate situated off J11 of the M40 in Banbury, comprises six warehouses totalling over 1 million sq ft of accommodation – equivalent to roughly 17 football pitches. The estate was developed speculatively by db Symmetry*, who specified CA Group’s robust Twin-Therm® Built-up Roof and Wall systems.A key component of the Twin-Therm® building envelope system is Therma-Quilt, a bespoke high-performance Glass Mineral Wool insulation. It is manufactured by Knauf Insulation specifically for CA Group and is the result of a long standing partnership between the two companies.Therma-Quilt is ideally suited for non-residential cladding applications. It offers outstanding performance and functionality available in different thicknesses to support the Twin-Therm® system, delivering enhanced thermal U-values as low as 0.09W/m2K. It is non-combustible with a Euroclass A1 Reaction to Fire Classification, meaning it will not contribute to the development or the spread of a fire.Therma-Quilt is also a high-performing acoustic insulation. In Twin-Therm® roof applications, it helps reduce the drumming effect of rainwater, while in Twin-Therm® wall applications, it aids with sound reduction and can minimise the reverberation of internal sound when used in conjunction with perforated metal liner sheets. Therma-Quilt has been developed with water resistance in mind and uses materials that help prevent water ingress. The Twin-Therm® system has been designed with sustainability in mind and Therma-Quilt is no exception. Knauf Insulation’s Glass Mineral Wool products contain up to 80% recycled materials. This saves on virgin raw materials and energy demands, cuts carbon emissions, and reduces waste going to landfill. It is manufactured with ECOSE® Technology, Knauf Insulation's unique bio-based binder that contains no added formaldehyde or phenol. It is made from natural raw materials that are rapidly renewable and is 70% less energy-intensive to manufacture than traditional binder, so it is more environmentally-friendly.Products made with ECOSE® Technology are soft to touch and easy to handle. They generate low levels of dust and VOCs and have been awarded the Eurofins Gold Certificate for Indoor Air Comfort. In total, more than 70 tonnes of Therma-Quilt insulation were used on the six megasheds on the Central M40 development. While the industrial estate was built speculatively, its strategic location has previously attracted premium occupiers including Hellofresh, Prodrive Motorsport, TVS Supply Chain Solutions and Rinkit. Thanks to the Twin-Therm® system with its Therma-Quilt insulation, the warehouses have achieved BREEAM ‘Very Good’ ratings, while the businesses using them will enjoy more comfortable, warmer and safer working environments – and lower energy costs. *db Symmetry has rebranded as Tritax Symmetry

Newgate Street

Newgate Street

INTRAsystems

An architectural marvel located in an area of the capital rich with history. In the centre of one of the most famous cities in the world and a stone’s throw away from the prestigious St Paul’s Cathedral – the commercial entrance matting at Newgate Street had to be as eye-catching as the location it sits in. We were specified early on for this project – working closely with SDS Matting who are familiar with our market-leading capabilities. For this design, incorporating the alternating narrow stone strips was a priority feature for the client – a challenge, but end results like this are always worth the effort. Two products, one Elite solutionThis creative execution called for a combination of two innovative products. For the revolving doors (where foot traffic is always heavily concentrated) INTRAflex XT with Elite fibre inserts was specified to deal with most of the dirt and moisture. As one of our most popular products, INTRAflex XT offers optimum durability, performance and aesthetics. For the strip style beyond the revolving doors, INTRAflex SP achieves the striking finished effect you can see in the photographs. The strips of INTRAflex SP are inset into the terrazzo tiles following the direction of travel. As most Entrance Matting Systems are set perpendicular to the direction of travel, this particular design was a great opportunity for SDS Matting to demonstrate their expertise. Laying the matting perfectly to line up with the entrance matting surrounding the revolving doors was one of the big success stories of this project. The INTRAlux Elite black fibre inserts used at Newgate Street contain a monofilament scraper element to remove dirt effectively and, in the classic black colourway, play into the colour scheme perfectly to complement the architect’s overall foyer design intent.Moving in a new directionQuality was a high priority for this project. As Entrance Matting specialists with a proven eye for design, we were specified early on by Buckley Gray Yeoman having worked closely with them before. The added element of laying the matting in the direction of travel called for a matting product that could be installed with ease. Of course, INTRA systems is the name that will always come to mind. The end result is Entrance Matting that truly adds to the visual identity of the building. From floor to ceiling, the foyer is a unique space. Our specification consultants always enjoy the opportunity to get creative with clients – and this project was another example of how INTRA helps architects turn something pedestrian into a signature focal point. If you’d like your project to look this good from the ground up, get in touch with us today to find out more about our range of products. Project DetailsSytem: INTRAflex XTSpecification: INTRAflex XT with Waterlogic drainage systemClient: Brighton 3TsArchitect: Building Design Partnership (BDP)Installer: SDS MattingLocation: Royal Sussex County Hospital, BrightonHigh-Performance Entrance Matting for State-of-the-art HospitalThis pioneering project is a radical upgrade of Brighton Hospital's 200-year-old site. Named the 3Ts as it includes trauma, tertiary and teaching care. Visionary architects and long-term client, BDP specified our INTRAflex XT systems with integrated Waterlogic drainage for the first stage - the main entrance building, The Louisa Martindale Building. Approximately eight by ten metres, the Entrance Mat extends from a covered external area, through a large revolving door, side doors and into the internal lobby. Performance was the main objective as the building welcomes over 100,000 patients a year, plus staff and visitors for seven theatres, 15 isolation suites, 28 wards and service departments.Focusing on FunctionalityAs a premier healthcare setting, functionality was paramount. The Entrance Mat efficiently removes water and dirt to prevent slips and keeps visitors safe. The zone 1, external section of the Entrance Mat uses INTRAflex XT with an open construction over the INTRAmatting Waterlogic drainage system to remove rainwater and dirt efficiently (it holds 75 litres per m2 which is then channelled into a waste water drainage system). Combined with hard-wearing and weatherproof rubber inserts, it scrubs and scrapes off large dirt particles before traffic meets the zone 2. From the large revolving door into the lobby, INTRAflex XT is used in its closed construction format, with fibre inserts, for greater comfort and further moisture absorption. A Higher StandardAnother key consideration was strength. The building's multiple-floor-height entrance is fully glazed with services installed at height. Specific access equipment and Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) help maintain the building, so we checked their details to ensure the Entrance Mat could efficiently handle the load stress. The Waterlogic system is extremely strong, and we construct it with reinforced supports so that the chosen matting can easily cope with extreme loads. Manufactured to perfectly fit the matwell, the Waterlogic base curves around the 5m wide revolving door. Considering AccessibilityServing such a variety of people with specific needs, accessibility was another important part of the specification. BDP chose materials and finishes for DDA compliance. We have Light Reflecting Values (LRV) for each of our products, so BDP could easily choose which materials were best for contrasting with other flooring and building substrates. We test all our Entrance Matting products for slip ratings, and to ensure that they are wheel and heel proof. The zone 2, internal performance Entrance Matting is a closed construction with fibre inserts to scrape and remove finer debris. The dirt retained in the matting is easy to remove with regular vacuuming as part of the hospital’s stringent cleaning regime.A Proven Healthcare PartnerHealthcare settings have their own specific challenges and demand high standards for Entrance Matting. BDP has worked with us for years across a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, so trust our products and service to deliver their exacting standards. We’re now finalising the Entrance Matting for the second stage of the 3Ts redevelopment at Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Creating Safe and Hygienic Entrances to Grange University Hospital

INTRAsystems

With health and wellness a top priority, a high performance commercial entrance matting system is essential within hospitals and healthcare settings. Using INTRAform DM Low Profile entrance matting with a combination of inserts, BDP created multiple safe and hygienic entrance points to Grange University Hospital (GUH). About the building Serving over 600,000 people, this world-class healthcare facility treats patients needing complex emergency or critical care. Offering 471 beds, it is home to more than 40 specialist services. In addition to the main entrance, the building has multiple access point including staff changing areas, ambulance entrance with associated trolley traffic and other pedestrian entrances to different clinical areas. Many of these entrances are in use 24 hours a day and exposed to the elements. The Solution Following consultation with the INTRAsystems specification team, the architect selected clear anodised INTRAform DM Low Profile entrance matting. With its heavy-duty closed construction aluminium planks, INTRAform DM Low Profile is ideal for locations with high foot and wheeled traffic, such as this busy hospital. The closed construction offers ease of cleaning, while the low-profile design provides a cost-effective solution without compromising performance. Extra-wide insert sections ensure maximum contact with footwear and wheels to deliver optimum dirt and moisture absorption over smaller areas. Along with the clear anodised finish, they also help to minimise strobing which can be an issue when specifying contrasting fibre and wiper bars. Modified Zonal System To maximise performance, all entrances to the hospital use a modified zonal system within a single internal, recessed matwell. All the mats feature an initial section of multidirectional rubber inserts which gives exceptional scrapping action to remove debris and excess moisture at the threshold. At the main and ambulance entrances to the hospital where traffic is heaviest, the mats feature between 2 and 4-metre sections of rubber to ensure multiple footsteps or wheel rotations are affected. Following the initial sections of rubber, INTRAlux Elite fibre inserts thoroughly remove the remaining dirt and moisture. INTRAlux Elite offers exceptional tufting per square metre which provides superior comfort and acoustic absorption. With 92,990 tufts per square metre, INTRAlux Elite can absorb and retain 5.4L/m² - perfect for the inclement Welsh weather. By specifying a modified zonal system, the architect has created a robust yet cost effective entrance matting system to maintain safety within the building and extend the life of internal floor coverings. Learn more With entrance matting providing the first line of defence against dirt and contaminants a robust entrance matting specification in hospitals and healthcare settings is critical. Cost-Effective High-Performance Retail Entrance MattingThe Howard Centre is a popular, two-storey shopping centre next to Welwyn Garden train station, welcoming hundreds of visitors a day. Old entrance mats weren’t performing well and didn’t give the right impression to visitors.INTRAsystems examined the dirt-filled, faded and very tired looking mats. Our survey and report highlighted the poor condition and potential hazards of the existing retail Entrance Matting.Within three months of our first visit, install partners Syncros completed an overnight replacement of two entrance mats totalling 50m2. The Howard Centre now has sustainable, economical and highly durable INTRAlink² PVC Grid Entrance Matting with Elite fibres. The facilities team can keep them looking fantastic for years to come with simple maintenance.A Welcome UpgradeWith our extensive experience of the retail sector, we understand the demands for long term performance and safety. Design tends to play a lessor role, ensuring shoppers stay safe and focus on the retailers beyond, although its still important to create a smart impression from the door.INTRAsystems’ condition reports always include suggestions for remedial work or upgrades based on the setting, so we proposed a closed construction, heavy-duty, cost-effective system – INTRAlink2 .The centre manager was very happy with the recommendations and quickly commissioned a replacement for the two worst condition entrance mats.Perfectly Suited for RetailINTRAlink2 is a heavy-duty, 100% recycled PVC system; perfect for easy maintenance and absorbing the inevitable dirt and moisture from so many pedestrians. It’s one of our most sustainable systems (download the EPD).Made up of modular tiles, it has a closed construction which keeps all dirt particulates on the surface for easy hoovering and is designed for multi-directional traffic, particularly suitable for retail environments. After confirming the specification, The Howard Centre ordered direct from Syncros. Once we received the order, we checked the specification was accurate and suitable for the application – something we always do, whether client’s order directly or via another supplier or contractor.Retail Entrance Matting Installation Exceeds Expectations“Thanks for your help with the entry matting, the two entrances that were completed look so much better.”Deputy Centre ManagerHigh Performance, Sustainable and Budget-Friendly INTRAlink2 is compatible with a full range of INTRAlux inserts. INTRAlux is a range of specialised fibres made from 100% recycled nylon fibres, which brush dirt and absorb moisture excellently. With 19 colours and 3 fibre compositions, we can easily incorporate design features, match in with existing entrance mats or apply logos. The Howard Centre chose the Elite 602 blue fibres to complement their brand palette. This gave them an efficient insert, +PTV 38 slip rating, and excellent UV-resistance, scraping action and sound absorption.Essential Upgrade in Extra Quick TimeAnother advantage is how fast INTRAlink2’ is to install. The material doesn’t require any specialist cutting tools and the product comes ready boxed in large, pre-connected square panels, so it’s ideal for a busy retail environment. The install team were able to easily work around existing pillars, angled walls, and safety railing fixtures within the centre entrances. Both Entrance Mats were replaced in one evening, eliminating any disruption to trade. With the new Entrance Mats now much easier to maintain, visitors get a better first impression and critically, are well protected from slip and trip hazards which are always a key concern for this type of environment.

The team like it a lot!”INTRAlink2 solves the root of the problem. For Waitrose Basingstoke, the main goal was to significantly reduce the risk of slips. Waitrose knew they needed a highly absorbent, heavy-duty product to be installed. Given there is a travellator that shoppers walk onto directly after passing over the Matting, avoiding high foot traffic carrying excess moisture onto the metal surface is essential to prevent slips. The 20 sq ft Mat Well was also located next to a trolley storage area. Because of this, the durability of our EPD certified INTRAlink² product a must. Waitrose had full faith in our product to supply exactly what they were looking for as a long-time corporate customer.Effectively Sustainable. Waitrose were keen to use the most sustainable products possible without compromising on functionality. Our INTRAlink² product was the obvious choice to cope with multi-directional traffic in a high footfall area. We created INTRAlink² with a 95% absorbent fibre surface coverage, making it hugely effective at removing dirt and absorbing moisture. Given its simplistic design, it’s incredibly easy to clean too! The 100% recycled PVC is a market first for Entrance Matting. We’re truly proud to be pushing the industry forward as we all strive for a greener, more sustainable future. The Store Supervisor at Waitrose Basingstoke was extremely pleased with the finished Entrance Matting product:“The quality of the INTRAlink² surface is leagues above the incumbent matting and looks to serve us well, particularly in wetter weather.”Our long-standing working relationship with Waitrose & Partners is something we truly value. Reducing noise break-in issue on new school roof, Chester

Hush Acoustics

Hush Acoustics provided an effective solution to ‘noise break-in’ at a newly built primary school in Chester to ensure the internal acoustic environment was supportive of learning goals. The Huntington Primary school was designed by Cheshire West and Chester Council to cater for 420 primary age pupils and a 26-provision nursery. The former primary schools it replaced had a capacity of 120 children, but to cope with the demand of 1,200 new houses being built nearby on the former Saighton Army camp, the decision was made to build a new school to meet the requirements. An acoustic concern highlighted was ‘noise break in’ which is caused by issues such as the sound of rain falling onto the roof, which in turn would detract from the learning environment. In order to resolve this potential issue and to guarantee the children a healthy setting free from noise disturbance, we specified our Hush 10kg Barrier Mat to be installed in the roof of the building.Hush Barrier Mat is a vinyl sound barrier mat loaded with naturally occurring minerals. The product is free of lead, unrefined aromatic oils and bitumen. Designed to improve the sound insulation of existing panels of metal, wood, plastic etc., at all frequencies. The mat is normally fixed in intimate contact with the original panel. Hush barriers are particularly effective in overcoming coincidence dip resonance found in stiff lightweight composites such as plywood sheets and hollow core panels.Working alongside Kier, were Delta Group, who we supplied with 1100 sheets of our Hush 10 kg Barrier Mat. They then applied this to the roof of the school in 3x layers, to give a mass of 30 kg/m2 and improving acoustic performance across all frequencies.

INTRAsystems

A Very Victorian Problem The Royal College Building is Category B listed. Designed by David Barclay, the 190s, gargantuan 4-storey Italianate college is a monument to Victorian architecture. It houses the University of Strathclyde's Principal and Vice-Chancellor's residence, alongside various university departments and independent businesses. As you'd expect, the entrance lobby is a grand affair and welcomes thousands of students, staff and visitors through its arched bays and up its curved marble staircase. But, with a Glasgow city-centre location and architecture pre-dating modern draught lobbies or revolving doors, Estates Services were losing a battle with the inclement weather. They needed to take control and prevent water from being traced into the building, making the subsequent tiled floor and marble steps slippery. A Custom ApproachThe University's Building Surveyor contacted INTRAsystems while exploring potential products in their ongoing experiments. After a follow-up call subsequent site visit, it was clear they had a design opportunity to create a unique Entrance Mat for a unique building. With its listed building status, the Entrance Matting system needed to be true to its heritage as a technical college of engineering - practically perfect and sympathetic to the building's aesthetics. Customised Chessboard Tiled Entrance MattingWe advised increasing the Entrance Mat from 4m2 to 10m2, the full width of the Polished red ashlar portico entrance bay and all the way to the marble staircase. However, extending the small matwell wasn't possible because of listed building constraints, so we suggested filling in the existing recessed matwell and installing a surface-mounted system with ramped edges. Fine Details But Heavy DutyWe custom-made 380 x 380mm INTRAshape tiles, with a black anodised finish and combined them with INTRAlux Elite Black 608 and Grey 606 inserts, to match the existing chessboard, monochrome flooring tiles perfectly. INTRAlux Elite has a high-density pile of coarse and fine polyamide fibres made from 100% Econyl (recycled plastics). They boast high moisture absorption (up to 5.4L/m2) and scraping abilities. The heavy-duty inserts also deliver durability, comfort and excellent sound absorption. This combined with the modular INTRAshape system, meets the multi-directional traffic requirement. A Perfect MatchProcurement partner and preferred contractor, Kirkton Flooring, managed the project with our support for layout and drawings, then Master Matting completed the install. First impressions were positive, and it's a marked improvement on earlier mitigation attempts. "It looks fab thanks, just exactly what I imagined it to be like. Cooking oil, which is in the air and cooking areas, settles around the store and is ultimately soaked up by the Entrance Mats. In addition, bits of spilled food and drink were getting stuck in drainage channels. This was limiting the performance of the small, recessed mats and providing little to no absorption or protection from the rain. Food technicians do most of the cleaning at the end of service, so the mats needed to be easy to clean with simple hoovering and brushing. A deeper clean every few months would then help ensure longevity. Heavy-Duty and High-PerformanceINTRAlink2 is a modular tile offering high durability and cost-effectiveness for retail entrance matting. The high-performance, 100% recycled PVC system has outstanding sustainability. And importantly, its closed construction keeps dirt and debris sitting on the surface instead of falling into drainage channels. So, it's much easier to vacuum and spot clean daily. With a cost-effective PVC structure, it's quick and easy to cut to shape than install, as each tile clicks into the next. Available with a choice of three fibre insert ranges with multiple colourways, it will enhance any retail interior. Gastronomy Restaurants chose INTRAlux Elite Anthracity 607 to match the new grey floor tiles being fitted, and complementing the 'more inviting...rustic, farmhouse décor' used in the refurbished KFC stores. Preventing Slips with Recycled Ocean PlasticsINTRAlux Elite is a high-density pile made from Econyl - 100% recycled nylon created from recovered ocean and landfill plastics. The fibre's density and coarseness deliver excellent moisture absorption and can cope with heavy and consistent traffic. Plus, it boasts impressive fire resistance and sound absorption. Green credentials abound with the fact that INTRAlink2 is manufactured from 100% recycled PVC. Being more sustainable in this way doesn't mean a compromise in quality. We're so confident in the product's hard-wearing performance, it comes with a 5-year warranty. "A Superior Product"Following successful trial installations by Jephsons Shopfitters at New Milton and Lichfield restaurant refurbishments, they have now confirmed the INTRAlink2 specification for the national brand rollout across 40 stores.“We’re going to be using your lovely matting on all the new builds and store refurbs from now on. It’s early days and we’ll see how it looks in 3 years, but it definitely seems a far superior product to the old system.”Facilities Manager, Gastronomy Restaurants. Gastronomy join the ranks of other satisfied retail customers with INTRAlink2, such as Waitrose, The Howard Centre and Co-Op. With a wide range of products to meet the retail challenge, high stock levels, short lead times and efficient installation, we’re the supplier of choice for this demanding sector.

Make an Impact With Office Entrance Matting AXIS House, office design and fit-out company, is in the business of Shaping Futures and with this project, they revolutionised the past by transforming a dull, industrial, 1950s warehouse unit in Dorset into a modern masterpiece of functional office space with inspiring showrooms. The matting brief was to create an entrance with an unexpected wow factor, marrying design, performance and sustainability. The team wanted to create a lasting first impression for visitors coming in from the drab industrial surroundings outside, to enter a modern building filled with possibilities.Create a Dramatic TransitionEntrance Matting fills the entire lobby. But it’s not your average Entrance Mat. The enclosed space offers a dark, dramatic transition area with one of our more exclusive products INTRAshape and using the higly moisture-absorbent Ultimate fibre. This delivers a luxurious, carpet-like impression as visitors pass through into the double-height, open plan office beyond. A space filled with light, plants, and natural materials.AXIS House chose INTRAshape in a small rectangular form and brickwork pattern for the mat well. Ultimate fibre inserts in Anthracite (907) fill the matwell, which is four metres long. The overall effect is thick and luxurious, more like plush carpet than Entrance Matting and absorbs everything the British Weather throws at it too!Wow, Wow, Wow; Design, Sustainability, and PerformanceAs our sister company, AXIS House naturally looked to INTRAsystems for their Entrance Matting! The team hadn’t worked with Agata, the Interior Designer before, but she was “impressed with the choice of colours and designs” and “thrilled with the project.” We helped the team visualise a more striking finish; taking what is a functional product and turned it into a real design feature. It works, looks brilliant, and will stay that way for a long time.DesignThe Entrance Mat design mirrors the LED ceiling light-well above as well as the width of the double doors. The shape also echoes other dynamic rectangular design features throughout the building.Bronze, anodised aluminium adds a layer of luxury and ties in perfectly with the die-cut company logos on the facing wall. To complete the look, the perimeter border is laid in sheet form with INTRAlux Ultimate in contrasting warm neutral Lichen (912), a beautifully on-trend grey green.INTRAshape breaks design boundaries and Entrance Matting traditions, offering distinctive design possibilities. There’s nothing else like this on the market. With an extensive range of shapes and colours to choose from, you have the freedom to unleash your creativity, combining forms and textures with infinite possibilities to create rhythm, movement, and perspective.Sustainability INTRAshape and INTRAlux Ultimate perfectly aligned with AXIS House’s commitment to sustainability and their SKA rating ambitions.INTRAlux Ultimate features ECONYL®; 100% recycled content and they specified PureBase; our PVC-free backing option. Sustainable choices that help shape a better future.PureBase has a significantly lower environmental whole-life impact, from production to disposal. It’s also much easier to handle and install as it is 20% lighter and 3 x more flexible. ECONYL® is regenerated waste nylon. It has the same properties as brand new nylon, but can be infinitely recycled and re-moulded. ECONYL® is cradle-to-cradle certified and eligible for LEED® v4 points.PerformanceOur products helped AXIS House achieve the prestigious WELL Building Standards and SKA Gold rating (soft flooring criteria) for the entire building.High-performing Entrance Matting contributes to WELL Standards on air quality management by absorbing dust, liquids, and air pollution efficienty. The final specification also delivers outstanding performance and aesthetics. This office Entrance Matting provides excellent protection for hard floor surfaces, ensuring durability and longevity for commercial office settings. 24-25 GROSVENOR STREET

24-25 GROSVENOR STREET

INTRAsystems

24-25 Grosvenor Street in Mayfair offers high-quality office space. Having been completely reconstructed behind its imposing double fronted period façade in the 1980’s, the building underwent a major back-to-frame refurbishment in 2018 to modernise the space. With two entrances to work with, the contractor needed a high-quality entrance matting system that would befit its location, whilst also providing superior performance from a relatively small area of matting. Two bespoke entrance designs were created to complement the aesthetics using INTRAdisc bronze capsules and INTRAform Double Module cut directly into the ceramic flooring.
