A new £13.5million sports and swimming complex in Blackburn town centre has been constructed to replace the ageing Waves Water Fun Centre. The joint project between Blackburn with Darwen Council and Blackburn College will provide for students and residents swimming pools but also a larger fitness suite, a dance/ aerobics studio, sauna and steam room and two sports halls. The scheme, partly-based on Darwen Leisure Centre, will reduce the running costs of the existing Waves complex and reduce the subsidy.

The Brimstone is a luxury boutique hotel. It is located in the beautiful Lake District, and their view of the famous Langdale Pikes would be difficult to beat. In order to provide a clear view of the countryside, the balconies of the rooms and suites were fitted with Q-railing's Easy Glass Slim all-glass balustrades. The railing system's large glass expanses, maximising light and visibility, plus unbeatable quality and safety, made it the obvious choice. Promat UK is providing architects with a 360 degree ‘wheel of assurance’ for SYSTEMGLAS® fire resistant glazing systems. Guidance is offered at every stage of the project, the system is manufactured in-house, it is fitted by a network of approved installers and a certificate of conformity is issued upon completion by a Promat specialist. Promat can provide this assurance because it is in complete control of the design and manufacture process, and it has in-depth knowledge of the installation requirements. This means supply chain risks, such as product substitution or poor installation, can be eliminated.

Q-railing was asked by Bond Bryan Architects to provide specifications for a glass balustrade that would surround the escalator void on all 3 floors. The Q-railing architectural team was involved very early in the design process and could therefore provide tailored advice on which type of balustrade and fixing to use. The Easy Glass Slim glass balustrade contributes to the state-of-the-art appearance of the new building. This flagship showroom now is a natural fit with what VW wants to reflect: continuing growth and success.

SAS International bespoke metalwork comprising of a striking waveform shaped ceiling was designed by architects Arup Associates to feature in the construction of Ropemaker Place, London EC2 for British Land. Specialist bespoke wave ceilings were installed in the atrium, main reception area, lift lobbies and main external canopy. The waveform panel, although elegant in appearance, had to have the required strength to support the light fitting. Place, is a state of the art commercial development with impressive sustainability credentials.

This £7.88 million Student Accommodation project started in 2014 and is a Timber Frame construction specifically designed as a Student Accommodation Residential Development and Halls of Residence for Liverpool University.The specification for this project consisted of 231 studio apartments fitted with acoustic flooring. The project which is located close to the busy Lime Street Train Station in Liverpool City Centre, was extremely complex.The acoustic flooring of choice was a 23mm T&G profile dry screed pre bonded with 18mm wood fibre.

Installed across the pitched roofs of two new apartment buildings in Castle Lane – a mixed use development overlooking the historic Swansea Castle, Del Carmen Ultra slate has helped to create an impressive look and feel that is also in keeping with conservation requirements. On the strength of the successful installation of a Stannah A2S down-escalator in the Slough branch of JD Sports, Stannah were once again approached to quote for their three-storey Liverpudlian store. As a result, two Stannah A2S escalators (one up, one down), an exclusive 8-person Maxilift MXL passenger lift and four 50kg Microlifts, for the transport of smaller merchandise between stock rooms and fitting floors, now provide all people- and goods-moving requirements within this thriving outlet.

We worked firstly with The Manser Practice to develop a floor that was within budget and also Bryden Wood Architects on the specification and subfloors. Henry Construction are the main contractors and we are now working with them to ensure a successful fit out and wood floor installation. Situated in a location close to High Street, Stratford and Three Mills Island, Strand East will feature a variety of new homes and workspaces. Forming a triangle south of High Street, The Strand East will be a landmark development for an industrial heritage.

Wakefield has had a sporting boost with the construction of its new Minsthorpe Leisure Centre which was opened February 2018, after the 14-month project was completed on schedule. Facilities at the centre include a 25m, six-lane swimming pool, a 60-station health and fitness club and a group exercise studio.The project cladding design underwent a value engineering programme and the originally specified product was changed to include our Trimapanel® smooth faced insulated panels for the external building envelope.

When it came to designing Tarkett’s new UK HQ in Ashford, sustainability and wellbeing had to be at the heart of the concept. With a fierce dedication to creating environmentally-friendly products that promote healthy spaces, the decor provided the perfect opportunity for Tarkett to showcase its impressive credentials. London-based fit-out specialist Peldon Rose was brought in to assist. After consulting with the Tarkett team, Peldon Rose sought to create an inclusive office environment, catering for a wide range of different tasks and preferred working styles.

The “44 Floors” in Rotterdam is the residential West Tower in the building complex “De Rotterdam”, completed at the end of 2013. The multi-functional building on the Wilhelmina Pier was designed by OMA, the office founded by Rem Koolhaas, as a vertical city offering a total floor space area of 160,000 m2 with offices, restaurants, a hotel and leisure facilities, in addition to the “44 Floors” apartments and parking spaces. The exquisite luxury apartments were fitted out with sanitary objects of the Subway collection from Villeroy & Boch.

Designed by Wilson Mason Architects, the ManchesterCancer Research Centre (MCRC) is a state of the artresearch facility, home to 150 researchers.The iconic public facing facility has been designed withan integrated environmental approach. With featuressuch as 85% natural ventilation and rainwater harvesting,the project has earned an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating.Allgood were asked to supply an ironmongerypackage that could reflect the sustainable approach,whilst catering for the building’s high performancerequirements.With the MCRC being a partnership between TheChristie, Cancer Research UK and the Universityof Manchester, there is frequent traffic of users. Itwas therefore imperative that Allgood supplied anironmongery package that would perform to the higheststandard. The package was delivered in a co-ordinatedstainless steel finish to match the clean aesthetic ofthe building’s interior. In addition, Modric lever and pullhandles were fitted on the internal doors, providing adurable and high quality product that provides a ten yearwarranty.All of the stainless steel door fittings supplied aremanufactured from 62% recycled materials, of which95% can be recycled at the end of the products life.Manufactured in our factory in Birmingham, the Modricproducts supplied enabled lower carbon emissionsthrough a shorter supply chain, contributing to the‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating of the building.

111 The Strand, is an eight storey landmark office and retail building in central London. The property occupies a corner position on the Strand with a return frontage to Savoy Place. The majority of the 30,549 ft² office space is let to CVC Capital Partners.The iconic building is well-known for its contemporary appearance. The limestone façade with metal frames with curved bays of stone and glass, and a stone relief depicting the surrounding area truly stands out.With the recent acquisition of the long leasehold office building, the private equity firm CVC Advisors Ltd found it time for a complete refurbishment. The existing reception area and office floor 1 to 6 were stripped and upgraded to Category-B Standard. This is inclusive of new MEPH installations and a commercial kitchen fit out to service the meeting room suites and dining areas.Stravifloor Channel, a floating floor system using isolated steel channels with proprietary elastomeric pads, four layers of plywood, and a special damping layer was installed in the catering kitchen on the 5th floor of this fit-out project. The isolated steel batten system with enhanced stiffness was designed to minimise the transfer of impact noise to the office floors below.During the installation, an elastic Perimeter Strip was applied around the floors’ perimeter, to completely decouple it from the building structure.

With a view to attracting more technology and media tenants to New York City’s NoMad Tower, owners Global Holdings and architects NELSON were keen to produce a dynamic, industrial-style space that fit in seamlessly with the vibrant and rich history of the surrounding neighbourhood North of Madison Square Park.The multi-million-dollar makeover of the 39-storey building included repositioning the entrance of the building from 32nd Street to 31st Street, with priority placed on the design of the lobby and shared communal spaces to achieve the architect’s vision.Working with our US distribution partners Lewis Stevenson, Planet’s export division manufactured and supplied multiple solutions from our LOFT range of glazed partitioning.LOFT20, LOFT54 and LOFT100 glazed partitions were utilised throughout the space at NoMad Tower, including one elevation 15 feet in height that required custom angle returns to be created. With acoustic performance a priority, the double-glazed LOFT100 (54dB RW) meant that the noise reduction between the bustling reception area and conference space was achieved to a very high standard.Planet IsoPro double-glazed pivoting doors and EclipseTec soft open & close sliding doors were fit alongside the LOFT systems to ensure continuity in noise reduction while providing superb user interface experience.

Langton Homes is a well-established family-owned company specialising in developing properties throughout the Midlands for more than thirty years.One of their recent projects was four high-end luxury detached six-bedroom houses featuring extensive outbuildings, each set within large private grounds. The main property on the development – Langton House, was being specifically built for the owner of Langton Homes.Having used Mustang® Seamless gutters on projects in the past, they had no issues specifying it again for this development. Existing garages on the development, which had previously been fitted with uPVC as a cheaper option, were now failing and leaking, so they were replaced at the same time as the rest of the development was installed with Mustang® Seamless Aluminium Gutters.Mustang® was ideal for this build due to the sleek, clean lines of the gutter, with no external brackets on view. Mustang seamless gutters are strong and durable but lightweight and easy to install, with most of the preparation work being done at ground level before the gutter is raised to height for the final fixing into place, meaning that it is often safer and quicker than fitting traditional guttering.As the aluminium is roll-formed on-site to the exact dimensions of the building in continuous lengths of up to 30 metres, there is no waste.Once installed Mustang® Seamless Aluminium Guttering requires minimal maintenance. It is the only quality-assured seamless gutter system certified by the British Board of Agrément (BBA) to last over 30 years. A certification ARP has held for over 25 years.Colonnade aluminium downpipes completed the installation and were polyester powder coated (PPC) in Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016) to match the colour of the gutter in our in-house purpose-built PPC facility.Aluminium is a natural, non-corrosive material and needs little maintenance, but it is also fully recyclable. THE PROJECT: Recticel supplied the high-performance thermal solution to transform a 100-year-old property in Moseley, Birmingham. Divided into nine apartments, in which two were refurbished to create one, two-storey home, the project caught the attention of the producers of Channel Four's Old House to New Home. Connecting a ground floor property to a flat above led to the creation of a modern and stylish home trimmed with decorative reminders of its structural origins.THE SOLUTION: Eurothane® GP, a high-performance rigid PIR foam board, was selected for the new home's pitched roof, framed wall and floor. Eurothane PL, Recticel's insulation and plasterboard solution was fitted to the property's existing, cavity-less, nine-inch exterior brick walls. The well-sized board ensures minimal thermal bridging during construction.Coupled with Eurothane® GP's 0.022W/mK low thermal conductivity, these products were crucial to attaining a good U-value rating. In total, 130m2 of Eurothane® GP and Eurothane® PL panels were installed.The homeowner, Paul explained:"As we were carrying-out most of the building work ourselves we wanted the best possible insulation for the project. THE PROJECTNumber One Bristol is a high-end student living development home to a collection of studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses. Setting a new standard for students living in Bristol.The development features a rooftop garden (known as the ‘Sky Meadow’) providing breath-taking views across the city of Bristol, on-site parking and a central location allowing you easy access to the very best of the city life.This project uses both a bank of mailboxes to securely store mail deliveries and a high-capacity MEFA Mega parcel box which allows for large parcel deliveries to be stored in a secure location.THE MAILBOXESThe mailboxes used on this project are located in the reception lobby area allow easy access for residents to retrieve their mail as they pass on the way to their home.The mailbox model used is the MODA Horizontal mailbox, finished in a high-quality stainless steel 304L grade. The bank is freestanding fixed to the floor using table supports designed and manufactured to carry the weight of the mailboxes and securely hold them in one position, whether empty or full to capacity of deliveries.The mailboxes are an in front / out front type, allowing for mail to delivered and retrieved through the front face of the post box.The mailboxes are fitted with surround cladding on either side of the bank and the top of the unit, with this cladding the table support finished in a contrasting black PPC colour finish. I first came across Vox Ignis when ROC took over a large project in London. I was instantly impressed with the systems they had fitted and quickly picked up the phone to get more details. BackgroundThackley Primary School in Bradford is a well-established suburban school providing education for children aged 3-11. The school’s positive ethos seeks to provide a happy and active environment for learning, with teachers and staff dedicated to working hard to secure the highest educational standards for their pupils. With more than 450 pupils, the building can become extremely busy during school hours, both in classrooms and communal areas. That was presenting some challenges in terms of acoustics in certain areas of the school, particularly in its multi-use hall which is used for performances, PE lessons and dining.ProblemThackley Primary School’s multi-use hall is a large, open plan room which, like many internal environments of this type, features extensive areas of hard, reflective surfaces. When the room was in use, particularly when occupied by a large number of pupils and staff, excessive reverberation and echo was making it an unpleasant acoustic environment.Head of the School, Annette Patterson, sought to find a solution to these issues and approached Sound Reduction Systems (SRS) given the company’s experience in resolving these types of acoustic problems in schools. At the initial enquiry stage, Annette provided details about the school hall, including dimensions and photographs, from which the SRS technical department was able to model the space using their acoustic software. This enabled the team to propose a provisional solution with a specification and provide a quote. Once the proposed solution was agreed in principle, an acoustics specialist from SRS visited the school to take detailed measurements and discuss the various options available to arrive at a detailed specification.SolutionImmediately on receipt of Annette’s request for help addressing this acoustic issue, the SRS team confirmed reverberation was indeed excessive and reducing it would make a huge difference. SRS Director, Alex Docherty, commented:“As soon as I was shown into the hall, it was clear that the acoustic environment was not ideal – the long reverberation time made it difficult to hold a simple conversation between a few people comfortably, let alone when the hall was full of children. It was clear that a treatment using one of our Class A rated Sonata products was required to solve the issue.”Prior to any improvements, the estimated mid-frequency reverberation time was recorded at (Tmf) 3.57s. This level is considered excessive for a room of this nature. SRS calculated that 75sqm of their decorative Sonata panel absorbers would be required to solve the problem, bringing the reverberation time down to (Tmf) 1.13s.SRS provided the school with a layout design detailing where the panels would be installed within the hall. The school chose a combination of Suspended Sonata Vario panels and bonded Sonata Aurio panels and SRS were able to despatch their installation team within 2 weeks to fit the absorbers.Client feedback“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the acoustic panels we had fitted. Exterior Accoya cladding has been selected by the University of Minnesota for The Tashijan Bee Pollination Centre. Designed by Architects MSR, 8,000 square feet of Accoya Burn and Brushed Black, coated in Delta Millworks ebony SF, features on the siding of the building and was chosen due to its durability and sustainable properties. Plus, in keeping with the ecological mission of the build, Accoya was the perfect fit due to its green credentials – thereby; the building meets the National B3 Sustainability standards as well as State of Minnesota Sustainable Building 2030 requirements.

The Milton Keynes Hospital Paediatric Emergency Department was undergoing a refurbishment. The overall aim was to create a child-friendly environment that would appeal to children of all ages. AD Architects designed the new unit and chose Altro Orchestra to create two colourful, reception play areas. The variety of different shades and textures gave scope for an enchanted woodland forest theme to be created using Altro Orchestra throughout. Altro Suprema safety flooring was also fitted in the new unit’s observation areas, treatment bays and examination rooms.

The Royal Voluntary Service Hertford branch wanted to provide a lunch club to bring older people together to enjoy a hot nutritious meal and socialise with friends at the same time. The room to be used for the club was not fit for purpose. Altro donated floors and walls to transform the room to create a warm and welcoming environment. Altro Wood Safety Comfort was used for the floor to provide a good aesthetic and easy to clean floor. Altro Whiterock White was used to provide a smooth, easy to clean surface that is impact resistant and reduces maintenance costs.

The largest automated warehouse for online groceries in the world and renowned for its high-level distribution required robust drainage systems for their new facility. Aspen worked closely with the architect to design, manufacture and install stainless steel solutions to support the hygienic performance of the entire environment. Aspen provided engineering drawings, samples and prototypes to ensure a seamless manufacturing process and delivery of the project from day one. The kerbing was also specifically fitted and mounted onto the wall of the warehouse to offer maximum protection and to maximise cleaning efficiency of the facility.

Artform were approached by Gillespies to explore some ideas for using bespoke granite blocks on this new development at Wapping Wharf. Communication & coordination were key to making sure that the bespoke granite blocks were the precise measurements required for the lighting columns to be fitted correctly. The advice and experience provided by Artform helped to solve problems that other suppliers were unwilling to address or tackle. The particular aspect of this project that was most innovative was utilising the granite block for the functional purpose of a foundation for the lighting column, but in a decorative manner.

Pantheon expressed their interest in Billi which was followed by a visit to the London office of one of the Billi UK’s existing customers, Fabric Systems.
