She was also unable to open the windows after they were painted shut many years ago.The timber sash window experts began the renovation by getting the windows fully operational, which included servicing the pulleys and re-hanging the sashes using new cords. This was followed by installing the unique Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS) to eliminate draughts and rattles and to also upgrade the windows’ energy efficiency.Slim Secondary Glazing was also installed where possible throughout the home.While the work was being carried out, Mrs Robertshaw learnt about Ventrolla’s double glazing product and subsequently asked them back to fit the same seven windows with slim double glazed timber sashes to further improve the thermal efficiency of her windows.Mrs Robertshaw said:“I came across Ventrolla at a listed heritage exhibition and arranged a survey soon after. 450 sash windows restored and double glazing installed by ventrolla at royal academyKEY FEATURES: COMMERCIAL, GRADE II LISTED, SASH WINDOWS, EDUCATION, RENOVATION, DOUBLE GLAZING, VENTROLLA PERIMETER SEALING SYSTEM, VICTORIAN.After the existing windows, dating back to 1862, were given their marching orders due to their poor condition, the timber renovation specialists were drafted in to upgrade the ageing sashes.As part of a £7.5 million refurbishment across two years, the Grade II listed building, used by the Army Medical Directorate, presented 450 sash windows in dire need of  complete renovation and upgrade due to many years of exposure to the elements.The majority of sashes were one and a half metres tall with larger ground floor windows reaching two and half metres.The deteriorated condition of both the sashes and frames meant the building was very draughty with many of the windows being rotten and inoperable.To remedy these problems the rotten timber was routed out of the original box frames, and replaced with Ventrolla’s patented epoxy resin VR90. Preserving the original sash windows was just as important as improving the energy efficiency of the building.Following this process, the unique Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS) was installed to combat draughts and reduce external noise. The sash cords were then replaced, pulleys serviced and sashes correctly balanced to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the windows. Andy Meachen, Project Manager of the Military Academy, said:“The service that Ventrolla provided was excellent and we were very pleased with the final result. Clement was thrilled to be asked to manufacture the new steel windows and doors for this spectacular Arts and Crafts style house in the Hampstead Garden Suburb. The new leaded Brooking windows and W20 steel doors, look just like the originals – perhaps even better! Hampstead handles were chosen for the windows and Kensington handles for the doors. They were all polyester powder painted in RAL 9005 Jet Black to match the frames. Our client is really pleased with the end result and said:“We placed a large order with Clement of double glazed leaded doors and windows. ASF were initially approached to supply the standard ASF 5002 bollard to use in the protection for car charging units situated at motorway services across the UK. After some initial discussion it was decided that a variation on that bollard would be best, offered at 2 standard diameters (101mm and 114mm) and as both straight and cranked bollard profiles.This allowed a standard spec to be circulated around several installation contractors that was at once consistent whilst also having the flexibility to be used on individual sites that typically have slightly varied needs.The bollards are finished polished with a green visibility band in a machined recess and off a robust and effective barrier whilst being relatively unobtrusive not displeasing to the eye.

The multi-million pound transformation of London Stansted Airport required a floor access solution that could accommodate very specific site conditions and meet the required loading. In two separate phases of work Howe Green supplied over 250 bespoke floor access panels and frames for the Satellite One and Departure Hall refurbishment. This Stirling Prize winning scheme by Sir Norman Foster was, as you would expect, quite demanding on the products Our brief comprised of the complete fit-out including all buildings; seven cores above ground, which including 400 superloo washrooms, wall finishes, feature entrances. We supplied ironmongery fittings to over 1,000 bespoke doorsets, all of which we provided a full ironmongery scheduling service for. Each doorset had an enhanced thickness to achieve specific design details and satisfy standards, involving the mechanical handling due to weight and sizes. Finishes include timber veneer, lacquer and feature coverings to match adjacent areas.

Perry Hall Academy, a large primary school built in 1949, with original waterproofing still in-situ. IKO assisted the Academy funding bid by providing a detailed survey report, including intrusive core sample analysis. The roofs were suffering from water ingress, cracks in the mastic asphalt, pooled water and poor heat retention, so decision was made to replace the roofs throughout. New rooflights were also specified to allow more natural light in while the design chosen reduced the external noise transmission. IKO worked with specifier Concept Education Services to deliver the project (some work during term-time) within 6 months.

Profile 22 has supplied its Optima Casement solution to 62 social housing properties in Rusholme, Manchester for Arawak Walton Housing Association. Merseyside based Total Glass, a longstanding member of the Profile 22 Approved Window Contractor scheme, supplied 434 Profile 22 Optima Casement PVC-U windows during refurbishment works on the homes. The Windows were installed by Lancashire based Countrywide UPVC. In the village of Bentworth, the Spanish architectural practice AMPS Arquitectura & Diseño had the task of building a modern residential building adjacent to an existing farmhouse. The planners designed a slender building with a gabled roof that reinterprets the traditional form of a cottage. It takes up the typical local forms and the building material of dark wood – and becomes something new.The entire interior is stylish, minimalist and sustainable, with building services designed for maximum efficiency. Inaugurated in 2012, the new headquarters of NedBank in Pretoria, South Africa, is a modern building with an avant-garde design that brings together different materials such as porcelain stoneware, wood, cement and glass.Designed by the Boogertman & Partners Architects studio, the structure has been designed to be a real service centre and point reference point for local financial institutions in the area. Its indoor areas have been covered using Trust technical porcelain stoneware series: the floors, clad in the Titanium colour using a multi-size installation with 40x60, 30x60 and 20x60 modules, finish the space off perfectly thanks to richness of details and natural stone effect surfaces.

Aberdeen Railway Station is the UK’s busiest station north of Edinburgh and Glasgow and is listed is listed as ‘Category A’ by Historic Environment Scotland. The station building has a glazed canopy roof, which needed a full upgrade. Designing and manufacturing gearbox motors for industrial uses, Parvalux Electric Motors Ltd is a 75-year-old British manufacturing firm based on the south coast of England.To accommodate existing operations and add capacity for the future, Parvalux repurposed an 8.75-acre brownfield site in Poole that combines both an HQ and factory onto the same location.Work began in 2020 on the 160,000 sq ft site - which includes a £3 million investment in new manufacturing capabilities.Putting it at the forefront of efforts to decarbonise construction, the eco-friendly building has achieved a net zero rating.ChallengeStructural steel and industrial cladding specialists Jade-Aden Services were contracted to deliver the complete design and build of the new facility. When I came back everyone was gushing about these waterless urinals but I was very sceptical. I thought there was no way that they would work, that they would stink and so on, but they’ve been absolutely amazing.I’m a massive convert – if I had my way they’d be installed all over the campus."No more odour"I can’t believe how fantastic they are and that they work so well without needing any running water. They always look clean, they always smell clean and they’re 100% easier to clean because there’s no water going into them."Much easier to clean"Cleaning them is so much easier than cleaning traditional urinals, and more efficient too. I can’t believe how long the cleaning fluid lasts for. I thought we’d go through bottles and bottles of it but we don’t.With traditional urinals you often have a constant trickle of water through them which means you can get lots of problems with limescale and other marks which can be really difficult to clean off. You don’t have any of these problems with the waterless urinals. They’re much easier to clean and, importantly, they always look clean too."No more blockages or flooding"We used to get a lot of blockages in traditional urinals on campus and they can cause all kinds of problems but we haven’t had any of that with the waterless urinals.The traditional urinals run on battery sensors that regulate the flush. From time to time the battery runs out and if the guys don’t spot that on their check then they don’t flush at all for a few days which causes huge problems with odour. It’s not an issue at all with the waterless urinals.Similarly, we used to get overflows and floods caused by blockages in the traditional flushing urinals. These can be hugely damaging. If they happen over a weekend then you can come in on Monday and find that you’ve got a ceiling down on the floor below. Again, the waterless urinals remove this problem completely."Smells lovely and looks clean"I’m converted. If it was up to me we’d have them all over the campus. It’s such a big difference – if you go in the gents now it alway smells lovely and looks so clean.We have an external cleaning company that does most of the cleaning on campus. When we first installed the waterless urinals we put one of our own cleaners in to clean them, our team leader trained her on the correct method and then trained the external cleaners. They all picked it up straight away. They’ve had no problems with it and they never get mixed up.The feedback from the cleaners is really positive. They find the waterless urinals much easier to clean. You just spray them and wipe round – no more scrubbing or rinsing."Positive feedback from students"We’ve put a sign up explaining to the students what the waterless urinals are about. FIREFLY™ APOLLO Lite Specified for Royal Stoke RefurbishmentA leading passive fire protection contractor has been involved in the installation of fully compatible products from the range of TBA FIREFLY™ for the creation of half hour fire barriers within ceiling voids to a major general hospital undergoing extensive refurbishment work in the north of England.Birmingham based Cubic FM is the specialist sub-contractor carrying out all of the passive fire protection work at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in the city’s Newcastle Road. The work is making use of FIREFLY’s well proven APOLLO Lite™ 30:30 barrier system in combination with the equally widely specified Collaroll across areas featuring cable trays, water pipes and other building services. All of the barrier and ancillary products are being supplied by the Birmingham branch of Encon, one of FIREFLY’s main distributors.The Senior Contract Manager for Cubic, Brett Kelly, commented: “This is a family run firm where passive fire protection forms one of our key divisions, serving both private and public sector clients: working in schools, prisons, police stations and MOD properties as well as hospitals. The contract here in Stoke has been particularly challenging because the ceiling void of the Lower Trent Ward contains a variety of services - including gas and water - which could not be isolated due to having to keep adjoining areas of the hospital supplied. The skirt can be moulded to shape to seal it neatly to the upright barrier, which is usually at 90 degrees to the Collaroll and fixed into place using the high temperature adhesive. The R31 Staple Gun and Staples are used to staple the Collaroll to itself tightly around the penetration.

Dura Grating Riser Installation | Case StudyShard Place is the third phase of the £3.5 billion redevelopment of the estate next to London Bridge station, known as Shard Quarter. Reinforced concrete frame and groundwork specialists Getjar were appointed as the formwork contractor by the principal contractor Mace and chose the Dura Composites Riser Install team to take on some of the complex install challenges of the service risers.Dura’s unrivalled expertise and full install capabilities meant they could deliver a bespoke solution for a large triangular shaped riser on all 26 storeys that required the use of galvanized steel supports and bracketing in conjunction with GRP Dura Grating to allow for cutouts to be performed whilst maintaining the integrity of the riser.

SCM group have recently undergone a major refurbishment of their washrooms. SCM are a leading producer of machinery and systems, as well as a service provider, for the woodworking industry. This seafront-facing cafe sought to enhance its customer experience by incorporating a serving window section, enabling them to serve ice creams and slushies during the summer months, as well as offering late-night out-of-hours service year-round. However, ensuring the security of the staff within the premises remained a top priority.To address these needs, our proposal centered on the installation of a bi-parting window system. This solution not only optimised the available opening space but also effectively safeguarded the interior during non-operational hours with its comprehensive locking mechanism. By seamlessly integrating functionality with security, we provided the cafe with a versatile solution that met their operational requirements without compromising on safety.

Our system was utilised to deliver Grade D cleanrooms, including Cold Stores and Storage facilities. 

Innovative garden refurbBuilder Ian Gray embarked on a major garden refurbishment to build a skate park and BBQ garden room at his own family home in Fareham, Hampshire.Having never worked with Lindab Rainline before Ian selected a plain galvanised system to complement the stylish design of the timber building. A key feature of the building is a truncated hipped shape roof with a raised gutter which provides shelter for the entrance to a covered seating area. Ian said, “we did this build as an on site example of what we can do and have taken orders for 5 so far”, “Rainline was very nice to work with”, adding “Thanks to Lindab for such a great product and service”.

An operational Tesco Express store, in the heart of the Shaw community, that had existing high level rooftop condensers requiring annual maintenance. Pump House supplied a safe access solution around two existing high level condensers. Pump House carried out a site survey and provided full working AutoCAD drawings for approval. The access solution was manufactured in smaller modules which facilitated easier lifting and fitting. Pump House attended site on the day of installation.
