Three Bridges Station

Three Bridges Station

A J Wells & Sons

AJ Wells designed, manufactured and installed just over 1000m2 of vitreous enamel wall cladding with a metal ceiling to modernise the public areas of Three Bridges Station and provide easy access to hidden electrical and telecommunication services. The metal soffit was designed and installed to act as both a water management system and create an aesthetically pleasing ceiling in the subway and platform access areas. The ceiling also incorporated inspection hatches so that the underside of the rail bridges could be inspected periodically by the relevant parties.AJ Wells carried out the installation work under extremely challenging conditions as Three Bridges station is open 24 hours a day throughout the year. As a result the majority of works could only be carried out during the evening and in the early hours of the morning when customer traffic flow was at a minimum.AJ Wells worked closely with the other trades on the project in order to ensure that all interfaces achieved their required purpose.KEY FEATURES:• Vitreous Enamel Cladding system• PM13 ceilingA.J WELLS SERVICES:• Design• Manufacture• Installation

Meesons A I Ltd

The Government Hub, New Waverley, can be found in Edinburgh’s Old Town. Going up to seven storeys high and nearly 3000 people working within, it is a large and dynamic building.BackgroundThe modern New Waverley Grade A offices are situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, forming part of the World Heritage Zone. Offering 250,000 square feet of space, the office serves as a government hub, housing nearly 3000 civil servants from 11 different departments.Solution Meesons was able to help the client overcome their challenges for this project due to experience working onseven regional government hubs previous to New Waverley. application area: commercial ventilationuse type: offices, choir roomsproject scope: reline with minimal access to ductadded value: 25-year guarantee on air-tight and one-piece linerBackgroundThe 12 existing chimney flues had to be lined to be made suitable for ventilation to serve the newly refurbished building. From each room the flues were lined with VentilFlex-25 Green up to the attic level and out the top of the chimney. The team had to carry out a precision job in a confined space with minimal access to the duct.Statement of workVentilFlex-25 Green was chosen for this project because of its versatility and its long life span. The liner is light and comes as a soft and folded tube, which makes it easy to transport and to lower into the ventilation duct. Once in position, the liner is inflated and heated up, gradually assuming and maximising the internal dimensions of the existing ventilation duct. The resulting one-piece liner is corrosion resistant, completely air-tight and it carries a comprehensive 25-year guarantee.

Dingwall Road, Plymouth

Berry Systems

The Ruskin Square car park in Dingwall Road was fully modernised to help accommodate growing car parking needs. It is conveniently located to local attractions such as the Whitgift Shopping Centre and BoxPark Croydon. With these local retail and leisure facilties on the car park’s doorstep, it was necessary to ensure that it is secure and compliant for all its users. The car park itself is fully accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so safety was a key priority throughout the project. It houses 565 parking bays for people to use and resembles an effective resource in the local area to provide access to these key sites. We ensured that all of the products specified on the project were fit for purpose and met the client’s needs. We installed a combination of RB1X posts, handrail, mesh and our patented BS EN 6180 restraint strap to create a total solution. Pedestrian protection was a key priority so we specified our BS EN 6180 restraint strap that offers limited deflection on the handrail from pedestrian loading. The strap reinforces the handrail to provide additional protection to the vehicle restraint system.

Cyclehoop Trips - App enabled secure cycle parking

Cyclehoop Trips - App enabled secure cycle parking

Cyclehoop

End to end secure cycle parking with electronic accessWhilst the need for secure cycle parking near your home is widely recognised, destination cycle parking is often limited to a few Sheffield stands, out in the elements in a dimly lit area. Hardly inspiring for someone looking to leave their trusty steed / means of employment / pride and joy for a few hours. With local authorities looking to encourage walking and wheeling to city centres and high streets, public access to secure, weatherproof cycle parking is hugely effective in supporting uptake. But how to offer and manage such a service, where every location has its own individual quirks and issues?Introducing Trips, a short-term, secure cycle parking service, accessible through the Cyclehoop smartphone app. This new service can be applied to any securable unit – from an individual locker to a six space Bikehangar or a secure cycle hub – and allows the user to find, book and monitor their reservation in app.How it worksThe app is available to download for free from Google Play and the App Store. Customers set up their profile and use the map feature to find, select and navigate to their desired unit. On arrival, users can then start a booking and unlock the unit directly from their smartphone. The app momentarily disengages the locking mechanism using Bluetooth connectivity, enabling the user to turn the latch and open the unit. They can then secure their bike in their allocated space (shown in the app), close and lock the unit.Users can also monitor the cost of their booking within the app, with a countdown timer showing when a booking will move into the next price tier.Pricing can be set according to the requirements of a client, including limited free access. When retrieving their bike, users simply repeat the opening process using the app, unlock and remove their bike and end the booking. Their account is then charged accordingly.Users can add credit to their account and check previous bookings, all through the app.Glasgow city centre – a case studyEarlier this year, Cyclehoop won a tender to bring a secure, short term cycle parking solution to Glasgow city centre. Funded by the Sustrans ‘Places for Everyone‘ initiative, it forms part of Glasgow City Council’s Avenues Project. The project identified twenty locations around the city, with predicted high demand – near offices, shopping areas and social destinations. An initial phase of 12 Bikehangars was installed ahead of the UCI World Championships. With the event celebrating all things cycling, the UCI sponsored the first 12 units and they were decorated with the iconic rainbow jersey stripes.A second phase was installed in September bringing the full roster to 20 units (19 Bikehangars and one Cargo Bikehangar).Following a one-month trial, the service launched on September 28th, and has seen a healthy uptake with an average of 50 customers downloading the app each week. The benefits of going digitalWhilst Cyclehoop Trips offers destination cycle parking through the app, the technology can also be applied to residential cycle parking. ‘Cyclehoop Home’ is the second phase of the project which will integrate residential cycle parking subscription management, for a complete end-to-end cycle parking solution. This will offer a range of benefits for local authorities, housing associations and facilities managers:No key management – holding, distributing and processing key returns takes a large amount of time and space. No keys, no key management required!Remote access management – the ability to immediately grant and revoke access through the application management console streamlines the process and removes the impact of lost keys.Flexible terms – many Cyclehoop Rentals customers request shorter term contracts to match the duration of their stay at an address. Cyclehoop Home makes this possible.Self-service account management – automating some of the service will allow customers to manage their own accounts. This will require less support from a customer service team.Collecting usage data – understanding cyclist’s behavior is essential when planning new infrastructure. This app allows us to see popular destinations, the times that people are accessing units and once Trips and Home are integrated, will be able to show popular routes. This information would be invaluable to any council assessing future needs. What are the possibilities?Encouraging more people to cycle is essential to improving the country’s health, reducing the strain on existing infrastructure and reducing reliance on cars. By offering secure parking facilities at both ends of the cycle journey, a great many more people can choose cycling as their everyday mobility choice, safe in the knowledge that their bike will be there when they return.

Auckland Castle is just one of the many charming attractions of the Auckland project. The castle is one of the best-preserved bishops’ palaces in the whole of Europe and is at the centre of the Auckland Project. It is based in North England, showcasing fragments of a medieval castle discovered during recent archaeological digs, open to the general public. The project criteria The reconstruction of Auckland Castle required new access walkways, landings and stairs for visitors to be able to access the top, where they can experience stunning views across the town. For this purpose, it was essential to provide a very safe solution that responded to the strict criteria for public access walkways, while also meeting the prescribed design criteria to match the architectural milieu and building. Safe, Practical, Architectural steel walkwaysEven though the stairs, walkways and landings’ primary function is to provide safety for users to wander around Auckland Castle at height, the architects had unique requirements for the design. The solution had to fit perfectly with the rest of the construction with the following prescribed:High quality finish tailored to project requirements and matching the building type and architecture The gratings and treads had to allow natural light to penetrate through, owing to the size and shape of the buildingMaintaining a high level of slip resistance and loading capacity in accordance with relevant British Standards The solutionIn close collaboration among the contractor, architect and PcP, a bespoke solution was designed consisting of a special nosing solution to enable installation off aftermarket nosing, whilst relying on the integrity of the close PcP MESH™ tread.Additionally, slip-resistant requirements were addressed by reducing slip and fall risk to enhance slip-resistance.Utilising our experienced in house drawing office, we initially provided general layout drawings and ultimately panel drawings for client approval, to ensure all items were correct, with any specific site considerations being accounted for.

Rail Station, Coventry

Senior Architectural Systems Ltd

The £82 million redevelopment of Coventry’s rail station has seen the creation of a new entrance building and multi-storey car park, with Senior Architectural Systems playing a key role in its creation.Designed by AHR Architects, the West Midlands station is one of the busiest outside of London. The project is the latest to have been delivered by Senior and its long-term supply chain partners Elite Aluminium Systems and Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd.Senior’s slimline SF52 aluminium curtain wall system was specified for the main station building, helping to flood the concourse with natural light. Senior’s robust SD automatic commercial sliding doors were also installed to provide secure, safe and accessible access to the thousands of passengers who use the station every day. Additionally, the new-look station also features a footbridge to allow easier access to the platforms and bus interchange.Senior’s slim profile SF52 aluminium curtain wall system provided the ideal balance of aesthetics and performance by allowing copious amounts of light to enter the building and offering enhanced thermal efficiency. The aluminium frames were powder coated to boost durability and also complement the station’s feature grey and red cladding. Senior’s SPW501 aluminium commercial swing doors were also specified throughout to provide a safe and secure solution to such a high traffic environment. The extensive use of glazing on the building also pays homage to the original station building which is located nearby but owing to its Grade II status, could not be extended or developed to meet the increased demand on Coventry’s rail network. Ahead of the wider refurbishment of the original building, the large glazed panels have been used to frame various artwork from local artists and create another focal point for visitors to the city.
