Constructed within the Mossley Hill Conservation Area, the parkland surrounding the University of Liverpool's Greenbank student residences was gifted to the university by the Rathbone family in 1939, and still offers a unique environment today. Crucially the designs for new buildings, including use of Technal's aluminium building systems respond sympathetically to the verdant setting. The Greenbank Residences replace outdated buildings and have been arranged around three landscaped courtyards, rising from five to eight storeys in height, creating over 1,370 new en-suite bedrooms. This project utilised 2,000 m2 of aluminium curtain walling, windows and doors - all of which offer high thermal performance and are finished in matt Anthracite Grey polyester powder coat.

The project team responsible for a striking residential property in the Channel Islands used our Dualframe 75Si Windows and the Elegance Curtain Walling, supplied by Pallot Glass & Windows, to match the property's modernist styling, as well as providing outstanding weather performance in a very exposed situation. Island-based Pallot Glass & Windows, was awarded the contract by the main contractor, Hacquoil & Cook Ltd, to supply and fit all of the glazing for the two-storey, five-bedroom Jersey home which has earned wide acclaim and been short-listed for several awards. The package included an entrance screen which combined the Elegance 52 elements with a large bespoke timber door and a fully glazed rear elevation with balconies overlooking the gardens.

The ChallengeThe design of two new two-storey, four-bedroomed homes with integral garages on the outskirts of Burnham village, Slough, was to be derived from the historical and varied architectural character of the surrounding area.The SolutionPROJECT INFOPRODUCT DETAILIt was important that the houses were not visually obtrusive in terms of height and detail. Their traditionally pitched roofs incorporate attractive half gable ends, and the front elevation includes detailed brickwork, stone cills and window heads.Forterra’s Hampton Rural Blend brick from the Ecostock range was selected for the build.The BenefitsEcostock is the most sustainable stock brick available in the UK. It is a high quality facing brick with recycled content. The range carries BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing certification.

Magestic match for larch claddingThis larch cladded, timber frame construction sits within a beautiful silver birch woodland site in the north of Scotland. A galvanised rainwater system was selected for the one and a half storey, two bedroom detached house by architect David Dittman. Client, Kevin Grant, says, "Rainline was specified by our architect, however, I have seen it used extensively in the area and was particularly keen to have it myself anyway". Local contractor MacGillivray Construction was used for the build, the rainwater system was purchased through online merchant Roofing Superstore. The client was pleased with the product and submitted the project as an entry to our My Rainline competition. Mr Grant has since built a garage and will be installing a matching Rainline system himself.

Kindred House is a 25-storey block made up of 128 one to three bedroom residential apartments overlooking the Croydon Flyover. Of these homes, 60 are affordable, and includes above flexible office and retail space, and 1000m² of flexible commercial space adjacent to the road. These all act as a buffer for the affordable apartments on the opposite side of the plan. The building has been stabilised with RC lift cores and RC shear walls and supported on reinforced concrete piled foundations.Cellecta’s YELOfon HD5 was specified by Pitman Tozer Architects on this project for its excellent high impact sound deadening properties ideal for a block of flats. It is a lightweight, easy to install non-crosslinked polyethylene foam.Henry Construction was awarded the 10,000m² contract to construct these modern apartments.

Oak Manor is a 64 bedroom care home that provides residential and dementia specialist care which opened in November 2017. Its features include an on-site hairdresser, cinema room and coffee shop, and has been recognised as a 'Top 20 Rated Care Home in East of England 2023' by Carehome.co.uk. Members-only club in London’s Covent Garden, The Conduit Workspace focuses on sustainability and ethical hospitality, encouraging creativity and collaboration.Featuring relaxed working and dining spaces as well as event space, a library, and rooftop bar and restaurant, it spans across six floors offering everything needed to connect its members.The brand new rooftop terrace was created in partnership with the House of Champagne, Ruinart, with the goal to place nature at the heart. The rooftop features plants chosen specifically for pollination as well as upcycled and recycled furniture and art.To complete the rooftop extension, designer, Alice Crispi, approached us after seeing our RailRoad seating range - she wanted a continuous wavy modular solution that would also accommodate large planter pots within the curved sections. A 15m RailRoad Delta seat with a continuous backrest was delivered in modules making it easily transported to the roof terrace. A UVP protective coating in teak was also applied over the timber slats to maintain the wood’s colouration.Surrounded by greenery, members can relax and enjoy stunning views across London from the rooftop terrace.

This multiple RIBA Award-winning spectacular home by Loyn & Co Architects is located on a sloping hill with spectacular views of the Wye Valley. With glass-fronted living spaces and light wells on the uphill side of the house, the architect wanted shading that didn't interfere with the overall design. Therefore, blind housings were custom finished to match the glazing structure in floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights. For the windows, fully automated roller blinds were specified to ensure protection from glare and solar heat gain, while allowing daytime visibility. This was accomplished using high-performance Blenheim 5% screen material.Throughout the house, the artists own art and furniture give this concrete house a very luxurious feel. Below, a single 13m long motorised skylight blind provides both light control and protects artwork from UV fading. At the rear of the house, purpose-designed studios use large lightwells with electric blinds to control the light and keep the environment comfortable.  To provide privacy, bottom-up cord-tensioned Honeycell Duette® blinds were installed in bathrooms with all hardware matching doors and windows.

With an elegant supercircular shape, the Holt range is handcrafted from European oakand provides the optimum grip for users.Incorporating Holt L shape lever handles, WC turns, coat hooks,doorstops and toilet roll holders as well as disabled toiletfurniture, Maggie’s Centre in Oldham has created a thoughtfulenvironment for its users.

Made up of eight buildings and one tower, Deptford Foundry houses 276 private homes in total. A selection of one, two and three-bedroom homes are on offer, all boasting balconies or terraces.Deptford Foundry also has 32,000 sq ft of studio spaces provided by Second Floor Studio & Arts spaces for over 450 artists, crafters, designers and makers, plus its residents have access to a beautiful, communal landscape garden.Set in a thriving local community, the rest of the city is also within easy reach via the nearby stations at New Cross and Deptford.Shield Membranes supplied all external waterproofing, insulation and finishing products. Behind the raw brick, almost-untouched exterior of a former warehouse in Redfern, Sydney, a once-cavernous space now holds a four-bedroom family home. To that brick exterior, only a few new windows have been added into existing openings, while inside, what Project Architect Ian Moore calls the structure’s ‘adaptive reuse’ has also been carried out with a gentle touch.Inside, materials and furnishings are about comfort and low maintenance – attributes echoed by the architect’s chosen d line ironmongery: “I always use the Knud Holscher Collection,” says Moore. “The design is completely timeless – it’s functional, beautifully proportioned, very comfortable to use and the solid stainless steel gives it a gravitas that’s so often missing in products of this type.”

This luxury home was designed to have fully concealed blinds in every window. The owners were enthusiastic to design a home that was the best to the last detail. Dark-coloured fabrics have been used where maximum visibility was desired but softer white-toned used in bath and dressing rooms. Bedrooms and media room have been supplied using dark-coloured blackout material to make a statement when used.

Rising 143 metres in the London skyline, this 42-storey tower located in Stratford near to the former Olympic park, consists of 248 luxury residential lofts and a 145-bedroom hotel.Designed by high-rise specialist architects Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, over 17,000m2 of ipasol Light Grey 60/33 glazing was chosen for the facade thanks to its aesthetic of a light grey tint when viewed from outside but highly transparent and neutral when viewed from interior spaces.As the facade includes full height glazing, a combination of solar control and thermal insulation coated glass was needed to allow the facade to achieve its energy efficiency targets. Some glazing types also utilise acoustic laminated glass to maximise the sound reduction properties of double glazing units.

Beautiful seaside property with a view worth waking up to and when you want to. This large feature window is approximately 3600mm wide and 4000mm high and the blinds have been skilfully concealed within the horizontal section above the opening door without closing off any of the glazing area. Grants have experience from many projects featuring bottom up blinds for gable end windows. So often the addition of a large gable creates a nightmare to find a shading solution that works.  We recommend contacting us during the detailed design stage. This client contacted Grants prior to ordering the windows and since then we worked together and achieved amazing results - as good as Blackout blinds in a bedroom gable can get.The end result looks amazing!

Arts University Bournemouth Halls of Residence Madeira Road is a significant university development in the Lansdowne area of Bournemouth town centre. This development consists of 374 rooms and four studios, arranged over three blocks, and a 400 space multi-story car park. Each building ranges from three to four storeys, with standard bedroom accommodation in each block; all blocks are set out around a landscaped courtyard, allowing direct access to adjacent blocks.Cellecta’s HEXATHERM XFLOOR 500 was specified by BrightSpace Architects Ltd for its high resistance to compression and closed cell structure that provides unrivalled resistance to water absorption, making them ideal for residential applications.Morgan Sindall Construction was awarded this 9,000m² contract to construct this development.

Beecholme is a detached house which has been converted to create seven flats. This development has been the subject of extension to make a kitchen and living room overlooking the rear garden for one of these flats. In addition, five of these flats include a ground floor bedroom and family room with an ensuite, providing versatility to suit a family’s needs. South Lawns Hotel is an iconic hotel located on a Green Belt site. An additional 25 bedroom extension was constructed for this development, set on a brick plinth, clad in dark boarding, to emulate agricultural York boarding, with a low-profile aluminium roof. The design and materials proposed minimised its visual impact on views across the Forest landscape nearby and contrasted with the white render of the existing building.Cellecta’s DECKfon Batten 70 was specified by Boyle and Summers as they have been rigorously tested and are robust detail complaint for steel, concrete and timber separating floor applications. The battens consist of a layer of recycled, low resonance, open cell, flexible polyurethane foam bonded to an FSC/PEFC certified timber batten.Tuakana was awarded this 1,050m² contract for this development in Milford-on-sea.

The symbolic and distinct design is inspired by the prow of a ship breaking through the waves in salute to Falmouth’s proud sailing traditions. With south-facing sea views over Gyllyngvase Beach, The Liner was Shortlisted for CE South West Award 2022 ‘Building Project of the Year’.Cellecta’s HiDECK Overlay 18 was specified by Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects as the overlay flooring solution. Carrick Yard in Westminster is a residential development comprising 168 one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments, a community space and public sports hall as well as extensive landscaped public areas. The scheme delivers improvements to existing surrounding housing and public spaces and is part funded by Westminster City Council. It is the first development to be completed in the Church Street Regeneration area.The Fire regulations which apply to high-rise living accommodation meant that the kitchens in each apartment would require a fire suppression unit complete with sprinklers to be fitted. These units need to be installed and maintained by a specialist engineer and can also cause damage within a property should they be activated due to a fire.  Therefore, the Firechief Kitchen Stove Guard was chosen as an alternative, unobtrusive design-led fire prevention solution.

Starboard Hotels and Maith Architects invited Licata Building Systems and Licata contracting partner Build-Therm Services Limited to assist with the redevelopment of the previous Park Royal bar to provide a 162-bedroom Hampton by Hilton hotel. The original building, lying vacant and in a state of disrepair, has a listed Art Deco façade, which has been retained and refurbished to its former glory, with the new hotel being built in behind and wrapped over with new, substantially glazed floors and Licata FireSafe Brick Slip system. Completed in 2018, the system comprised of 160mm high density mineral fibre, comfortably achieving the target U Value of 0.04W/mK. The brick slips were selected and cut from handformed clay to match the original building.

Overlooking the 4,000 gently rolling acres of the historic Kedleston Estate in Derbyshire, the two five-bedroom houses by Greenbuilt Homes are strikingly contemporary in their design. Key to their success is the careful specification of materials, with Vandersanden’s Lithium hand-formed, facing bricks creating facades with an appealing softness, unity and colour. DUCO contributes with sun protection to the £78m project for The University of Manchester. The architectural sun control DucoSun Ellips 200 mm, supplied by Contrasol, was chosen for the Fallowfield campus. The solar shading is so much more than decoration.About the Fallowfield CampusThe Fallowfield is a student accommodation with 8 multi-storey blocks including a Warden’s flat and Energy Centre, amenity hub, landscaping and external works. Each residence will have 10 bedrooms per floor with ensuite bathroom pods and a shared kitchen. 1,122 student rooms are spread over the blocks with a combined floor area of 32,020m2. The Fallowfield Campus is the main residential campus of the University of Manchester. It’s a vibrant place where thousands of students live alongside residents – creating e a real sense of community. The mix of shops, cafes, bars and a frequent bus service to and from the city centre makes it an ideal location to live.Construction detailsThe blocks are constructed using pre-fabricated lightweight steel framing system panels which provide structure to the building when used along with composite concrete floors. External materials are predominantly buff brickwork with feature elevations picked out in charcoal fibre cement slate roofing and cladding. Study bedrooms incorporate built-in storage and furnishings and a high specification pre-fabricated GRP en-suite shower pod.  Solar shading is much more than decorationThe vertical solar shading system DucoSun Ellips was chosen for this project and supplied by Contrasol. At Sauna360 we were honoured to be asked by a top London architect to co-operate in the installation of a sauna and steam room in a new gym and wellness suite at his Surrey home.The client had seen our design for a large sauna in a Mayfair mansion and the brief was to replicate this to more compact size to create an intimate family cabin.Sauna: The sauna was lined in special cut Blond Aspen contrasting delicate thin wall panelling, with close fitting bench boards and subtly angled furniture. Our proposal was to decorate the room using beautiful Siminetti natural shell mosaic tiles throughout. These tiles with interesting random surface are nonetheless super thin and therefore perfect to suit the many contours usual in steam room design and are both durable and efficient.To complete, we included a matching door to the bathroom with back painted glass and door lock for discretion.The result: a stunning, statement installation in manageable size for regular home use!
