Contemporary Glass Structures were selected to manufacture and install a flush glazed mirror door into a 4th-floor terrace glass façade as part of extensive renovations of a commercial office building in the heart of Manchester’s professional district. The Client JJ Rhatigan approached us to explore WoodBlocX as an option for the retaining walls, working closely with them our designers finalised plans which included a series of 1m tall terraced walls each containing areas for planting along with a large bench at the base of each to create a series of ‘secret gardens’ nestled below ground level to create the perfect private space of each dwelling.

London Wall have recently worked closely with the team at the QEII Conference Centre in Westminster to launch five completely refurbished spaces with both Type 100SE and Type G100 walls.

Based in Somerset, Taunton School was founded all the way back in 1847. While the building’s stunning exterior has been immaculately preserved in the years since, the interior has of course been routinely upgraded during that time in order to support the ever-evolving demands of educational environments – including the recent installation of our Type G100 movable wall system.Type G100 is a glazed partition system that provides effective protection again sound transfer when fully closed, achieving up to Rw 54dB. This particular system is comprised of 10 panels, with half being glass and the other half sporting a solid matte black finish – all housed within a sleek black painted aluminium frame.Thanks to the Type G100, the school’s cafeteria layout can changed within minutes, offering the choice between a large open plan space, or a pair of smaller rooms. A fully solid system would not allow for the transfer of natural light to the smaller of the two spaces created when the system is in use, however the glazed panels mean this is not an issue. A pass door also allows for access between the smaller spaces when the panels are being used.

Taking sustainability to a new level, 8 Bishopsgate is tallest building in the UK to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding and EPC A rating. Contributing to the low carbon footprint, Style, who offer moveable partitioning wall systems that are certified with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN15804, was contracted to work with architect, WilkinsonEyre and contractor, Brown and Carroll, to create flexible space on three levels.Utilising a combination of Dorma Huppe Variflex semi-automatic, solid and glazed moveable wall systems, Style created adaptable meeting and breakout areas to accommodate different sized groups and events whilst maximising the use of natural light.8 Bishopsgate is a landmark, 50-storey tower offering premium office space in central London. With sustainability a key element, the building boasts an array of architectural optimisations ranging from the recycling of heat from the cooling systems to the installation of the highest solar panels in London. Positioning the company and its products at the forefront of sustainability, Style not only holds the EPD, but is also accredited under the ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System, ensuring operational processes maximise sustainability goals whilst limiting wasted resources.In addition to Style’s green credentials, the moveable walls installed at 8 Bishopsgate boast a 52db acoustic rating on the glazed walls, and a 59db rating on the solid walls, ensuring complete privacy between divided areas.Not forgetting aesthetics, on level 2 the solid walls are finished in a perforated timber veneer, and on level 50 a kvadrat steel cut trio fabric was applied, perfectly harmonising with the interior décor.On the concourse, Style installed a glazed sliding folding wall system allowing a private area to be created without compromising natural light.A combination of semi-automatic Dorma Huppe Variflex solid and glazed walls create adaptable meeting and breakout areas on the second floor. At the top of the building, a further semi-automatic Variflex moveable wall adds flexibility to an expansive conference facility with breathtaking views over London.

This eye catching living wall sits in the central piazza of Teesside University in Middlesbrough. The Matrix film inspired planting design surrounds a large 36m2 LED information and interactive screen used in university social events.

The new headquarters of interior design brand Brabantia in Valkenswaard was recently completed. Several green living walls have been installed in the office, contributing to the company’s sustainable image. The entire office was built according to the BREEAM standard, designed by Gert Jan Kruijning of AA Architects. The vertical greenery in the building was installed by Ten Brinke Interieurbeplanting.Sustainable DesignBrabantia’s new head office was built climate-neutral according to BREEAM standards. The building’s skeleton is made entirely of wood. Preserving History and Enhancing Architecture at South London Gallery Fire StationIn the heart of South London, the transformation of a former Victorian fire station into the captivating South London Gallery (SLG) Fire Station has rekindled the area's artistic spirit. This renowned contemporary art gallery, a beloved cultural institution, has expanded its footprint through a thoughtful restoration that highlights the heritage of the building and introduces inviting spaces for creative exploration.A Glimpse into the RestorationThe South London Gallery Fire Station, located just steps away from the main SLG building on Peckham Road, has emerged as a remarkable annex. However, in 2014, the SLG was given the building to revitalise it into a hub for artistic and cultural enrichment. Style recently worked with contractor, AKP, to create space flexibility in AECOM’s new Glasgow premises. The addition of a Dorma Huppe Variflex glass and a Variflex solid moveable wall allow staff to create a meeting room within a main breakout area, as well as an additional meeting area near a social pool room and relaxation space.Both partitioning systems benefit from semi-automatic operation. The panels are moved into place manually, whereupon impressive rubber seals automatically expand to exactly the right pressure to create an effective acoustic barrier. Sedlescombe is England's oldest organic wine estate. The new owners have totally transformed the Vineyard's shop and tasting room with a stunning combination of steel and glass being incorporated through the whole building design. The enormous pair of radius head door screens provide a magnificent feature both internally and externally. They are in keeping with the natural surroundings and a fabulous backdrop to the shop. Inside you will find further Clement EB24 door screens and doors used to beautifully partition rooms and allow light to flow through the building.

Portakabin Ltd. were working on a project for Servicecare Support Services Ltd. to install a temporary canteen and locker room facility. They required the extra building space so they could continue to operate whilst adhering to social distancing measures throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.Alongside the temporary building, they were in need of a wall mounted canopy along the right elevation to provide weather protection above the main entrance to the building that leads to the corridor.Able Canopies have been working with Portakabin for a number of years, adding shade and shelter structures to their temporary buildings. Although our canopies are permanent structures, we have designed above ground planter pads and special wall brackets to enable us to install the canopies and take them down when they are on longer required.These adaptions have been designed for our Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy and have been successfully used for many years now. The staff at Portakabin therefore put the Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy forward to Servicecare Support Ltd. who were pleased with the design and specifications and were happy to go ahead with the installation.The final design was 10m in length with a 3m projection to cover the whole span of the temporary building and provide the weather protection required above the entrance.

Bygga Construction extended this magnificent London family home to include a master suite and guest wing. As part of the project the basement was dug out to create a massive family room, complete with wine cellar. Three Clement double steel door sets were included in the design for the rear elevation. Not only do these create a stunning feature but they allow plenty of natural light into the increased family living space.

Project at DB Schenker to create temperature controlled enclosure in new warehouse using reinforced fabric partition wall

A customer satisfaction survey highlighted Gate 25 in Terminal 3 at Heathrow airport, as one of the lowest scoring at the airport for ‘look and feel’. Heathrow had the idea of creating “the Garden Gate” – the concept being an English garden within the airport. By designing bespoke, freestanding, self-contained living wall units we were able to help that vision come to life. According to leading moveable wall specialist Style, demand for automatic moveable wall systems from architects, specifiers, contractors and end-user clients has almost quadrupled in the last 10 years. Reflecting a strong shift towards the automation of flexible space electrically-powered systems now make up 44% of the company’s total order intake, compared to just 27% in 2009 - a staggering increase of 388% in a decade. This was a large-scale wall and ceiling project in a 3-storey atrium of a major university reception. Vertical MaxiBeams were specified for the walling, including parts of the stairwell, because of its adaptability. It could accommodate the complex demands of the diverse elevations, with the additional technical challenge of spanning over the large windows. The vertical beams flowed down the inner faces of the atrium and wrapped under the soffit. Responding to a growing awareness of the importance of indoor air quality, Style’s manufacturing partner, Dorma Hüppe, is pleased to announce that their Variflex moveable wall system far exceeded expectations in a recent emissions test carried out by the independent laboratory, eco-INSTITUT.Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were analysed and evaluated, delivering reference values of only 0.021 mg/m³. This is an outstanding result given that the recommended maximum level, according to AgBB (Committee for Health-related Evaluation of Building Products) is ≤ 1 mg/m³.The result is particularly significant for architects, contractors and end-users choosing moveable walls for sustainable buildings, as not only were the individual parts tested, but also a complete Variflex 100 moveable wall with an opening height of 2800mm.This consisted of a full-wall element, telescopic element and pass door with wheels and suspension. A faceted on plan curtain wall completed in AluK’s SL52 system is the centrepiece of the two storey community hub known as The Curve in the Bryn Gaer Place housing development. AluK’s technical team worked closely with their commercial fabrication partners Vellacine to design the curtain walling for the project in Newport, which also required an external canopy to be attached to the system. The challenge was to deliver the faceted on plan design in a practical and cost effective way. This was achieved utilising AluK’s SL52 curtain walling system with a variable gasket solution and a single mullion to ensure that the glazing complemented the external façade design. AluK’s SL52 flexible, capped curtain walling system met the aesthetic, thermal, wind and water performance requirements set down by the north Wales based architects Ainsley Gommon. 

MEDITE PREMIER MDF has been used to create innovative 3D feature wall designs at the corporate headquarters of international media company, UBM, in Blackfriars, Central London. The landmark development made use of the timber panels in a bespoke interior wall design on each floor.

The Pig Hotel in Cornwall features rustic walling from Welsh Slate. A £13 million conversion of a listed country house into a boutique restaurant with rooms during the Covid pandemic has been rewarded with a Top 100 hotels award, thanks in part to Welsh Slate rustic walling.

Our Type 100E Fully Electric movable wall was installed here a few years ago. This fully automatic system allows for ease of use and gives the client the ability to open or divide the lecture theatre in minutes with the touch of a button. With an acoustic rating of Rw 58dB, both sides of the theatre can have full AV lectures without disturbance. Each panel is hand crafted to millimetre precision to match every step and riser, then fabric wrapped in sound absorbing acoustic panels and installed by our own highly qualified technicians. There are walls, but there’s only one London Wall.

Over a number of phases, Clement have manufactured and installed new steel windows and doors from our EB24 range for this magnificent house in the Berkshire countryside. The original home was built in 1905 and the current owners have beautifully refurbished the whole property including the gardens. They have cleverly added a contemporary twist, but have retained all of their home’s original charm. The new slim framed steel windows and doors have opened up the views from the house to the garden and let masses of light into the home. Two different glass types were chosen: leaded light glass for the new multi point locking steel windows and G+ glass for the steel doors, and the combination works perfectly together. The larger panes of glass in the steel doors allow natural light to flow throughout the ground floor. The client said: “Clement Windows Group are a fantastic company. They have worked at my property now for the last couple of years, as the work has been carried out in phases. Throughout the whole process I have been impressed with their professional service. We are really happy with the quality of all our new windows and doors and would not hesitate to use Clement again in the future.” 

May 6th 2023 will see the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. At ASH we also have royal connections and last year completed a project on the historical grounds of Caernarfon Castle in Gwynedd, North Wales. In April we took the opportunity to go and visit the site and it exceeded expectations. They have merged the old with the new in creating a impressive area for visitors to enjoy the views of the grounds. The timber deck area encompasses large bronze sculptors including one of hands cupping coins and the cascade down the timber steps. We manufactured and suppled a bespoke version of our ASH145 pull door handle in Bronze Patina. These handles had a added curve on the bottom end creating a double ski effect mounted on to our bespoke plates which are recessed into the structure of the door. RP Joinery's client owned a house directly on the seafront in Whitstable. They had experienced issues with their previous door due to the extreme coastal environment causing the hardware to corrode and deteriorate.
