Harmer Drainage high performance Roof Outlets and SML above ground drainage were recently specified for a new, forward thinking children’s hospital in Liverpool.The Alder Hey Children’s Health Park is a large £250m project developed to improve the paediatric medical facility and enhance the experience of both patients and staff. The aim is to set the hospital as a new benchmark for the delivery of paediatric care in the UK and around the world. It includes six wards, a large critical care unit, 16 theatres and a host of clinical services, together with shops and cafes.

St George’s Mansion was a former 19th century hospital called St George’s County Asylum. The grade II listed building was in disrepair following 20 years of neglect.

The regeneration of Swansea’s old docklands has seen old, dilapidated warehouses transformed into exciting mixed-use projects. Residential, commercial, as well as valuable retail space now occupy the area, collectively known as ‘The Urban Village’. Construction of the new-build 9-storey residential apartment block by the main contractor R&M Williams, saw RCM engaged as an important supplier. As well as providing the essential aluminium support frame, RCM also ensured timely delivery of the colourful Swisspearl façade. Each panel was fabricated by RCM to exact specified size, saving precious time on the construction of the building.

The Activity Studio was installed with Flexi-Beam Elite in European Oak.

What are curved and cantilevered pergolas?Curved and cantilevered pergolas are intricate designs of raised structures that can be free standing or fixed to an existing building or structure.They are complicated elements of a project and aren’t usually something designed on site. Manufactured in a workshop by skilled professionals, then taken to site in kit form for a rapid installation.Depending upon the design, the curves are manufactured from simple fins or box section and curved to a radius during manufacture. The design may call for the curved arrangement to be manufacture from straight pieces, this does reduce price but can look facetted.Cantilevering raised structures and pergolasFor years, these raised structures have been designed with a cantilevered design. This causes complications for the structure due to the weight, bending moments and behaviour of solid or laminated timber. The solution has been to create flitch plates and stiffening beams in steel which would then be wrapped in the timber. This is a costly affair and required Structural Engineers to provide detail and calculation for these structures. 100m2 flat roof on top of a school in was going to become an outside classroom. Access was severely restricted so it was not possible to consider traditional decking boards. Work was required at half term. Ipe timber decking tiles mounted onto adjustable pedestals were selected. The pedestals were delivered in boxes and the 500 x 500mm Ipe timber tiles could be carried by hand up all the flights of stairs to the roof area. The fall was accommodated with the adjustable pedestals and the hardwood decking was flat and durable. The roof was completed in three days.

Natural daylight can be hard to obtain in some rooms, especially when that room is situated on a second floor. Rooflights and Roof Windows can be a fantastic solution to this. Glazing Vision proved incredibly important to this new build using their technical knowledge and detail to create a new bespoke product to suit the client’s requirements.

The Ongar Academy Product: NORclad European Redwood with NORclad Brunnea treatment Working closely with the Architects initially, a specification was created utilising a PEFC-certified NORclad® European Redwood. Brunnea treatment was requested to offer a formal warranty on the product for 30 years against rot and fungal decay (out of ground contact), along with a good level of colour stability VS traditional untreated species. Over 19,000/LM was supplied in a square edge 20 x 45mm profile with almost a fifth of the product being fire treated.

For the new distribution centre at Schiphol Trade Park along the A4, living walls have been realised with MobiPanel, the living wall system from Mobilane. With a total surface spanning 750 m2, the facades of the new distribution centre is greened with the latest generation vertical green from Mobilane.Sustainable and innovative distribution centreA lot of attention has been paid to the appearance of the new distribution centre. With the design of Dedato Architecten, sustainability has not only been taken into account on the inside, but also sustainability at the outside of the building has been taken into consideration by including nature-inclusitivity. Dick Venneman, architect and owner of Dedato Architecten tells: “It is a building with its own characteristic appearance, a landmark from the highway. The building is in its materials friendly and accessible. The different surfaces in the facade gives it a human approach. The living walls and the vertically placed solar panels tells something about the sustainability of the building and plays a role in the preservation of biodiversity in the area”. In addition, the MobiPanel living walls makes the environment more sustainable and improves air quality. The installation of the living walls was carried out by Mobicare in collaboration with Zoontjens Boomprojecten. In addition to the living walls, Zoontjens also installed two large roof gardens with various trees, shrubs and 2,600 MobiRoof ECO sedum cassettes totalling 650 square metres.Distribution centre 2.0 Schiphol Trade ParkThe building spans 30.000 m2 of which 3000 m2 is available for offices. Under the distribution centre, there is a car park spanning 7500 m2 with space for 270 cars. The construction of the new distribution centre began in 2020 and is delivered by Dijkham Bouw BV. “From the environment, wellbeing and to prevent a paved environment, for the design it has been chosen to implement living walls, green roofs and ground level. We are very satisfied about this procedure. The execution is very good, the communication was good”, according to Marcel Smeets – Coordinator at Dijkham Bouw BV. The distribution centre was developed by Minerva Development. Minerva Development is an independent developer with years of experience in the development and realisation of business premises. “Since Schiphol Trade Park has set the goal of becoming one the most sustainable logistics centre, as developers we were very happy to take on the challenge. Next to all other facilities such as solar panels, we have opted for a lot of greenery in the design. Not only on the facades, but also in the surroundings of the building and on the roof. We are very happy with the end result and proud of the fact that because of the living walls, this is by far the most beautiful DC in the area. We are very curious about what the result will be over a few months when everything is in bloom”, Bob Lukassen – Minerva Development.Latest generation vertical greenFor greening the distribution, it was chosen for the new living wall system MobiPanel from Mobilane. MobiPanel is an innovative, sustainable and lightweight system for living walls. It is a modular and circular system consisting of omega profiles and pregrown plant cassettes (40 x 40 cm), provided with an automatic irrigation and drainage system. The plants in the cassettes receive water through capillary action. MobiPanel can be installed on flat or curved walls and is suitable for different types of walls, including certain types of sandwich panels. For the facades of the new distribution centre, sandwich panels from Cladding Point have been used. “With Mobilane, as a global expert with many years of experience, we can continue to lead the way in innovation and sustainability. The University of Northampton campus is split up into several learning blocks.We were tasked with supplying and installing an acoustic lining system into most of these learning blocks. Areas included: – creative hub, learning hub, research & enterprise hub, as well as the engine shed.Included in the Acoustic Lining package were a multitude of acoustic systems and finishes to create a dynamic yet acoustical stable atmosphere within the campus. Systems included; Soundis Absorb-R Gypline aw, Absorb-R WoodTec Panels and Acoustic fabric paneling systems. The combination of a seamless acoustic spray plaster in conjunction with the dynamic acoustic timber veneer wall slats and acoustic fabric panels brought depth and character to the learning environmentsIncluding sound absorption systems within the large open spaces helps to minimise the amount of noise reverberation, in turn creating a much calmer environment ideal for learning / educational spaces. Our premium granite TerraPave® flagstones were a perfect choice for this scheme at one of London’s foremost rooftop cocktail bars and pizzerias. Skylark Roof Garden, located on Kingdom Street, sits on the 10th floor of Paddington Central, offering incredible views overlooking the beautiful Notting Hill, on the banks of Little Venice. For this project, a combination of Pedestals and TerraPave® flags were utilised. The incorporation of Pedestals (stools on which the flags were laid) , meant no base was required. The depth of TerraPave® flags is calibrated as part of the manufacturing process, delivering exceptional dimensional accuracy which in turn delivered consistent levelling across the terrace. Project architects, Allies and Morrison selected our TerraPave® Flags, in Rimini and Milano Ground due to their rich, distinctive styles and impressive durability in highly pedestrianised areas. These flags are produced with locally-sourced, natural aggregates instead of pigments meaning their unique colouration won’t fade. TerraPave® also offers a cost-effective, and practical alternative to traditional stone paving. The £80m Paddington Central scheme was completed built by Wates Construction and designed by Allies & Morrison. Some of the impressive project’s additional features include London’s highest basketball court, an external glazed stair tower, and a public colonnade around the retail space on the ground floor.

The Loxley Shelter is our 100% plastic free cycle shelter. Made from recyclable galvanised steel and redwood from an FSC environmentally certified source, this shelter is the eco-friendly answer to sustainable cycle storage. The frame and roof construction is predominately structural graded timber to EN14081-2, pressure preservative treated with Tanalith® E against fungal decay and insect attack. Shelter feet are of steel construction for structural strength and to increase the life of the timber by keeping it away from the damp ground. Roof covering is fully recyclable galvanized steel,even the locknuts and roofing washers are plastic free alternatives.

The combination of these premium materials were chosen to complement the newly landscaped areas.

During the early 19th Century, a large section of the South Bank of the River Thames, London, comprised small wharves, docks and other industrial uses. In more recent years, the site has been used as a delivery depot, however, it is only now that the value of the site has been realised as a prime mixed-use location.

The Highland was specified for a 212 plot site by Redrow Homes in the South West of England.

A major development has seen the creation of some 300 contemporary new homes in the heart of a country park in Kent. The Conningbrook Lakes scheme was built by the Chartway group, a leading Kent based developer, with GDM Architects responsible for the main design. RCM were asked to supply their Supertech Weatherboard for the exterior of the different types of houses, ensuring an individual finish for the different house types.

The 2022 Stirling Prize was won by Niall McLaughlin Architects for the Magdalene College Library in Cambridge. The exterior of the building combines glazing, timber, brick and an elegant QUARTZ-ZINC PLUS standing seam roof using the BBA certified Structural roof, which is a warm roof (non vented) system. The roof was installed by a VMZINC@WORK partner, All Metal Roofing thus making a 50 year warranty possible.

Vtec was specified to provide feature ceiling beams using our MaxiBeam raft above an informal seating area in the large social space. Finished in a special Oak laminate, the raft’s interesting geometry follows the shape of the building and draws the eye. No two beams are the same; each was individually shaped and sized to perfectly fit the perimeter. Our Technical Team provided detailed set out dimensions to ensure correct positioning of the MaxiBeams for smooth installation, with the outcome that every single one of the feature ceiling beams is fully removable using our Click-Fix method.

Furnitubes designed, engineered, manufactured and installed 35 planters and 8 seating units. The planters were supplied in corten steel and aluminium trusses up to 6m high were bolted into the base of the planters for climbing plants to grow up. The seating is from Furnitubes’ new Elements XL range, designed to be sufficiently stable to not require fixing down, with 4 units including bespoke backrests. All products are heavy enough to not be easily moved by the public, but can be readily moved by pallet truck if the spaces in the Lower Mall need to be rearranged in future.

Estudio B76 designed its new headquarters in an industrial warehouse built in the 50s. They kept and revealed reinforced concrete trusses and the perimetral walls made of bricks. The design focuses on using glass and steel to maintain the industrial atmosphere.Thanks to active and passive sustainable measures, such as photovoltaic panels, aerothermal energy, and efficient shading solutions, the project achieves high sustainability.From Bandalux, we proposed a combination of systems suitable for both the working and residential parts of this mixed project:, but Veranda Plus is particularly convenient as it completes without denaturing the former structure of the building.
