The client, Blakedown Environmental and Leisure carried out a restorative project in conjunction with landscape architects Wynne-Williams Associates. SureSet Resin Systems was asked to restore and enhance Hunstanton Heritage Gardens, Norfolk. SureSet were tasked with renovating the red and green paved poppy motif within the memorial garden. The old and damaged surfaces were removed and two new resin bound poppies were installed using Durosol Flexible Profiles provided by Dural.

The opening of Kirkstall Forge train station marked a significant milestone in the development of the area in Leeds which has been undergoing a significant transformation. Hardscape worked alongside landscape architects Planit-IE to create a contemporary paving scheme that would help put the new riverside development at Kirkstall and the new station on the map, to achieve its commercial and residential potential. Multiple paving materials were used in the scheme including the stunning Kellen Sferio Bianco Perla.

Dalton Retail Outlet Park in the North East was modernised in order to create a premium shopping destination. Contemporary external landscaping as well as lighting, bespoke planters, seating and signage were to be part of the planned renovations. Product suggestions made by the Artform team offered a consistent design and complemented the original brief, whilst offering a robust durable result and a cost effective solution. The Stone Bench, Treeline bench, FGP seats and FGP Litter Bins were chosen to suit the overall project theme.

Artform Urban Furniture were asked to put forward ideas for seating designs and planters, by the landscape architects, Fabrik London. They were looking for a series of large monolithic benches in order to adequately serve the footfall at this busy concourse area. It was essential that the solution was inviting and visually appealing, to further improve the look of the overall project. Some standard products were chosen and had bespoke alterations to increase the number of planters and green space. However there were a couple of onsite challenges to overcome…

A residential building in Salford required seating that was durable, within budget and suited the project's overall quality. Artform Urban were asked to supply affordable and robust seating to be installed throughout the new building. After many conversations with the contractor and the architect, The FGP Bench was chosen. Being the perfect size for installing on site and maintained the project quality. With a solutions based approach from Artform Urban, the landscape element of this project was able to remain within the planned budget, without compromising on quality.

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde district board faced challenges in seeking a modern, sustainable landscape for the new £842 million Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Tobermore came up with the successful solution. The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital has replaced the previous Southern General Hospital, and amalgamates it with the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill, the Western and Victoria Infirmaries and the Mansionhouse Unit. The facility, which extends to 28.6 hectares, forms one of the largest acute hospitals in the UK.

Battersea Reach, an award-winning development consists of 1,350 apartments spread over 14 separate buildings surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens, shops and cafes. Buzon UK supplied and installed the DPH pedestal range for the composite decking and paving to many of the terraces and balconies across the 14 separate apartment buildings. The DPH pedestal system is perfect for use at roof level as they allow for 5% slope correction and can accommodate a range of services beneath floor level as well as giving excellent drainage.

reSAWN used Accoya because of its extreme durability, exterior weathering capabilities, FSC® certification, exterior warranty, & the hardness of Accoya. Charred using the ancient Japanese technique of shou sugi ban, MATSU is finished without brushing off the soft charcoal layer. This layer is a sacrificial wear layer that will flake slowly (as is expected for any natural building product) over time to reveal a blackened effect underneath with variations in colour, grey to brown tones – perfect for this heavily wooden landscape.

As the first of its kind in Wales and costing £48 million, Penarth Learning Community has been described as a ‘super school,’ bringing mainstream and specialised educational needs together under one roof. A variety of Tobermore paving products were used to create a hard-wearing, vibrant hard landscape for both the pedestrian and trafficked areas on site. Penarth Learning Community won ‘Project of the Year’ at the 2015 Constructing Excellence in Wales Awards and was also crowned winner in the ‘Integration and Collaborative Working’ category.

Since its official opening back in May 2016, the Blavatnik School of Government building has become one of the most vibrant departments of the University of Oxford. HRH The Duke of Cambridge himself attended the official opening, marking the significance of this new and innovative structure. Designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, who also worked on the extension at Tate Modern art gallery in London, the award-winning building is beautifully landscaped with Hardscape’s Royal Coffee granite paving – a fitting tribute to a future King!

Kingsmead Business Park in High Wycombe provides an ideal environment for today’s businesses, with some 150,000ft2 of flexible office space and excellent transport links. This purpose built business park, designed around a central courtyard, was due for a refurbishment, involving significant investment in its amenity offer and environment, incorporating the construction of a new café, entrance, lighting and associated hard landscaping. The owners were seeking to improve facilities for tenants and visitors and create a focal point in the heart of the complex.

Vtec's MicroSlat – a cost-effective modular slatted system was chosen for its timeless look and high-quality finish at a Grade II listed site. A key feature of the redesigned retreat areas is the captivating ceiling design. The entire centre, including its buildings and landscape, is protected as a Welsh Historical Monument. With agile internal management and responsible manufacturing, the complexities of the ceiling design were easily achieved. BBA approved Terrabound resin bound surfacing was specified for Liverpool Football Club's new flagship retail store at the Anfield ground. As part of the landscaped pedestrian area at the front of the new store, a robust, low maintenance, porous paving was required. Just under 4000m2 of Addagrip’s resin bound porous surfacing was selected in a range of colours to complement the design and to match the Terrabound Resin Bound surfacing previously installed at Liverpool Football Club’s newly expanded Main Stand in 2016.

After testing Millboard in situ for six months, where it passed the test for anti-slip and hassle-free maintenance, Coventry University asked their landscape architects, Plincke, to incorporate Millboard into their space design. As the university is in a built-up, urban area, there was little recreation space for students and staff, with limited space at ground level to create parks or gardens. The Millboard collection’s versatility made it ideal for Plincke’s innovative roof terrace design. The final result is a stunning, all-weather space in the heart of the city.

In 2016 award-winning landscape designers, The Edible Bus Stop, were commissioned by the Brixton BID to deliver a legacy installation for the Brixton Design Trail as part of the London Design Festival.Their brief was to create a parklet at the entrance to this famously foreboding building. The space had been habitually populated by street drinkers and labelled an anti-social environment by the residents and neighbouring businesses. The brief was to challenge the notion that the addition of seating and creating a space to dwell would increase anti-social behaviour and, on the contrary, that good design could improve perceptions of safety and empower a sense of wellbeing in a community.During the summer, planting beds were refurbished and many edibles and herbs, including fruit trees, were planted. Several Vestre Stripes elements were installed to punctuate the space with communal seating. The parklet was an instant success and quickly populated by residents of all ages, passers-by and visitors to local businesses. Inspired by traditional Belgravia garden squares, Chelsea Barracks is an exceptional development that will create an entirely new neighbourhood combining magnificent townhouses and spacious apartments with five acres of landscaped gardens, exclusive shops, fine-dining and state-of-the-art leisure facilities. It has been under construction since 2019 and it due to be completed in 2024.Chelsea Barracks represents a historic collaboration between world-renowned architects, best-in-class landscapers and the finest craftsmanship. It is the most coveted neighbourhood in London.It is a development of 440 residential luxury apartments, penthouses and townhouses. It cost £3bn to build and was the most sustainable developments in Europe in 2021, attaining LEED platinum certification for green building.The design and quality of finish in the properties is extremely high end and includes high spec finishes including natural stonework finished by Italian stone Artisans, bronzed ironwork balustrades inspired by the botanical prints of William Morris and elegantly crafted wooden floors and bespoke cabinetry.ECLISSE UK supplied 250 bespoke pocket door systems, including Classic singles and Classic doubles with accessories, to the project and they were predominately used in the bathrooms and living rooms. Classic singles were used in bathrooms to create more space where the arc of standard hinged doors would have otherwise encroached on the space. This allowed more space for larger shower enclosures and enhanced room layouts. CALA Homes Sold on Tobermore Complementary Facing Brick & Paving SolutionCALA Homes developed Kinleith Mill, a beautiful and distinctive new housing development in Currie to the west of Edinburgh, and in keeping with the housebuilders high quality standards, the team wanted to ensure that the most appropriate building and hard landscaping materials were sourced for the site. CALA Homes has been developing aspirational and award-winning homes across the UK for over 30 years, earning the company an excellent reputation. Tobermore’s Scottish Sales team introduced the housebuilder to the superior facing brick and paving products produced at Tobermore which surpassed expectation. Tobermore’s timeless Lansdowne facing brick was selected for incorporation on the properties at Kinleith Mill and vibrant Pedesta block paving was specified as a complementary hard landscaping solution.Alan Cole, Commercial Manager at CALA Homes, explained Yeoman McAllister Architects design concept for the project: “The design was inspired by the sites history and the idyllic location next to the Water of Leith in Currie.“The development offers a unique collection of four and five bedroom detached homes, three and four bedroom semi-detached houses, three bedroom waterside terraced properties and a select group of apartments, all new to the CALA portfolio.”The exteriors of the Kinleith Mill homes were designed with a combination finish of facing brick and dash. Alan explained that their choice of facing brick was made very easy when they were presented with Tobermore’s Lansdowne product. Lansdowne undergoes a tumbling manufacturing process that produces a charming weathered look and is ideal for applications that require a warm, elegant finish.Alan commented:“The aged aesthetic created a rustic look and we thought it was the perfect choice for the style and character desired at Kinleith Mill. While the inside of the properties were designed with modern interiors and amenities, we wanted to bring a touch of tradition to the exterior.Alan Cole, Commercial Manager at CALA Homes“In addition, we examined existing projects that Tobermore’s Lansdowne facing brick was used on and it was clear to see that the product performed well over time and showed no fading or discolouration.” Tobermore’s Lansdowne offers excellent colour retention capabilities due to the fact that the best iron oxide pigments available are sourced to produce the vibrant colours available within the range to ensure that colour is retained throughout the lifetime of a product.As well as the buildings, Lansdowne was incorporated on the bridge which connects the homes to the tranquil countryside surrounding the development. This created continuity across the aesthetics on site.The landscaping was an important element on site as the exterior of a property is crucial when appealing to new home buyers. Alan noted: “Paving was an obvious choice for the hard landscaping requirement as we knew it would enhance the appearance of the site more so than alternatives such as tarmac. Paving also offered benefits in that it is hard-wearing and should any blocks ever need replaced in the future, it is relatively easy and inexpensive to do so.”CALA Homes selected Tobermore’s Pedesta block paving as an attractive and versatile hard landscaping material. Pedesta is manufactured with a stunning, smooth finish and a rectangular profile that allows the creation of distinctive laying patterns. Artform were specified to supply outdoor bench seating and litter bins to match the rest of the multi-million pound scheme for a new Waitrose store. The products specified were the Multiplicity backless bench and the Multiplicity litter bin which are both part of the award winning Multiplicity collection of integrated site furniture. The end result for the project was a newly completed store that reflected the attention to detail in the landscaping and visually reinforces the brand promise that the Waitrose name represents in the retail food marketplace – namely one of high quality and good taste.

East India Dock is a refurbished site in East London, comprising of 6,000m2 of office workspace and a new area of public realm. The previously underutilised space has been fabulously transformed, including the creation of a pedestrian only external landscaped area. Artform Urban were commissioned to provide litter bins for the public realm and surrounding areas. The client needed the litter bins to be multifunctional for the project, allowing litter to be segregated into both general waste and recycling. The Spencer R Litter Bin was the optimal solution for the site, from design to budget.

Designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners, Leadenhall Building is a 47 storey office building in the City of London which has affectionately been given the nickname ‘The Cheesegrater’ due to its distinctive tapered profile. The building is designed to protect the views of St Paul’s Cathedral from Fleet Street.As well as offering retail and dining facilities with modern, flexible office space the building sits atop sixteen inclined columns and braces leaving a seven storey landscaped open space at the base of the building, covering nearly half an acre.

Beaufort Park is one of North West London’s newest and most desirable residential developments. Alfresco Floors supplied Ebema concrete tiles for use across the tree-lined boulevards and landscaped parkland. The Alfresco Floors range from Ebema is a very design conscious collection and features three surfaces, Carreau, Rockstone and Megasmooth, with a large range of standard colours, and tile sizes all the way up to 1200mm long and 80mm deep. Bespoke colours and sizes can be supplied for orders of just 500 SqM or more.

This eye catching outdoor A5000 was installed with access the care homes patio area, ensuring safe and secure accessibility for residents and staff. The patio has outdoor seating where residents are regularly served afternoon tea, and meals when the weather is fine. The glazed shaft panels allow for great views of the landscaped grounds when travelling in the lift. The staff and residents enjoy many activities outdoors, including their annual summer fair and barbeques, so a lift was essential for ensuring that everyone has easy access to the patio and gardens.

The Alder Hey Children’s Hospital won the Prime Minister’s Better Public Building award at the 2016 British Construction Awards. This building was designed to provide the best quality of healthcare possible in an environment that will develop the recovery process of patients. Costing over £250 million and named the ‘hospital under the hill’, it is designed to blend into the current environment and landscape incorporating grass from Springfield park in Liverpool curving up and over the building. This project was a connection of architecture and engineering to produce a natural and calming environment for the children and families.

On an historic site overlooking the picturesque Grade II listed bridge, Kew Bridge is a new riverside development, where 164 stunning new waterside homes have been built to create London's ultimate riverside address. The development includes apartments and penthouses with views over reflecting ponds and landscaped courtyard. Specified by Universal Sealants Ltd, The Outdoor Deck Company installed Millboard decking across numerous luxury residential apartments creating stunning outdoor spaces with unrivalled views across the River Thames and beyond.

This contemporary holiday home is located in the tranquil, unspoiled Swedish archipelago. Set into the cliff, the house is beautifully framed by the dramatic, rocky landscape and the deep blue sea. The wooden structure of the house was inspired by the local building traditions found in the boat houses of the archipelago. The interior reflects the minimalist exterior, with furniture in light wood and a subtle colour palette. London-based architect, WHAT_Architecture has specified CUPA PIZARRAS’ CUPACLAD 101 Logic as the ideal rainscreen cladding system for a new and unusual housing block in Peckham. Crucial to this decision was the system’s ease of installation and its natural aesthetic, which helped the contemporary design to also complement the surrounding and traditional urban landscape. We chose the CUPACLAD 101 Logic as its design layout also reflects that of the brick base, without actually using brick,” said Diana Kulacka, Project Architect from WHAT_Architecture.

Aykon London One is London’s luxury venture and the first of its kind in Europe. It was designed in partnership with the iconic fashion house Versace Home. Its residents will be able to enjoy the magnificent urban landscapes as well as the serenity of its private winter gardens. The building’s design make Aykon London One, the most exclusive real estate investments in London. In this new project the Effisus Breather B membrane was used for moisture management and protection of the façade against damp, and Adjoin TI tapes for the sealing of overlap joints between membranes.

Accoya was selected as the ideal material to clad the new Performing Arts Centre for Pipers Corner School, High Wycombe. Over 1200 m2 of Accoya cladding, soffits and trims were used throughout the project for phase 1 of the build. Designed by Nichols Brown Webber Architects and Landscape Planners, Accoya was chosen due to its Class 1 durability and low maintenance upkeep. Accoya was also used due to its sustainability credentials as the building has been targeted to achieve a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating.

Middlesbrough Council developed the idea for Middlesbrough Sports Village which included the construction of a 250m velodrome and a stadium to accommodate an eight lane track and field with seating for 650 people, as well as a five court racquet hall, gym, tennis courts and all-weather pitches. An attractive hard landscaping solution was needed to enhance the pedestrian areas at the new £23 million Sports Village and Tobermore helped the council achieve this with the provision of Mayfair Flags – a paving slab with a granite aggregate surface layer that produces a striking, contemporary look.

In the Peak District National Park with views of Cressbrook Dale and the Monsal trail, a thermal bridging solution developed by Owens Corning FOAMGLAS® is helping to deliver high levels of thermal performance for a new, modern home with a minimal space heating demand.The Quarry is a mostly single storey, green-roofed dwelling set on the site of a former shallow stone quarry. Working with John Pardey Architects (JPA), client Will Griffiths secured permission for a modern design faced with traditional materials to ensure a development that sits comfortably within the landscape.

Clean and contemporary lines, an atmosphere of mystery and drama and a natural, rural patchwork effect are the three dominant themes in Crown Paints’ latest, on-trend Colour Influences. Three palettes have been developed for the Autumn/Winter 2017 season, Considered, Intrigue and Patterned Landscape, with each collection designed to give architects and designers inspiration to create personality in their projects. The Colour Influences are produced by an expert panel, assembled by Crown, who join forces to pinpoint the latest trends, using their knowledge and passion for colour to produce a stunning visual compilation.

Longwater Reach is a collection of 74 two, three and four bedroom houses at Green Park Village being created by St Edward, part of the Berkeley Group. Exterior design traits include classic HardiePlank® weatherboarding in colours including Arctic White and Midnight Black, providing a natural timber effect, long-lasting durability and a stunning finish. Coloured matched finely-finished balconies and window frames complete the look, with natural landscaping and pathways, all designed to blend in to the development’s calming waterside backdrop.

In May 2017, a golden, futuristic style building docked at the heart of Media City in Salford Quays. People in the surrounding areas were intrigued by the unusual and eye-catching structure of the new branch of ‘The Alchemist’ – a trendy bar and restaurant chain from Living Ventures, renowned for its unusual and extravagant cocktails. Designing the surrounding landscaping to complement such an avant-garde building was a challenge. Hardscape reveals how it worked alongside Reid Architects and the Bolton-based construction company, Artez, to supply the best materials for this cutting-edge scheme.

UltraScape Pro-Bed HS, Pro-Prime and Flowpoint ECO are being used to help make Bradford’s City Park a world class public park. Bradford Council, in conjunction with landscape architect Gillespies and consulting engineer Arup, have specified UltraScape’s Pro-Bed HS Bedding Mortar, Pro-Prime Slurry Primer, EP-R9 Epoxy Bedding Mortar and Flowpoint ECO flowable grout – in Natural and Charcoal – for use by the main contractor Birse Civils, to lay the setts, porphyry and sandstone in and around the Mirror Pool.
