OverviewPowrmatic was selected to supply a frost protection warehouse heating solution for a massive 81,000m² building at Plot 2 at the Midland Logistic Park installed by Phase Mechanical Projects. a combination of 7 TE61 heating units and TE61 Destratifcation units were installed.Project BackgroundThe 81,000m² industrial logistic warehouse required frost protection with design parameters of -5°c external and +5°c internal.SolutionOne of our largest installations to date, 4 x TEG61 air rotation heaters were installed by our trusted partners Phase Mechanical Projects. Each TEG61 heaters boasts an impressive 525kW of heat output and were installed alongside 3 x TE61 destratification units to assist with the air turnover due to the size of the building. The 4 TEG61 heater units selected were designed to move 39m3/s of air around the building per unit, and when combined with 3 TE61 destratification units also at 39m3/s this gave a total air volume of 270m3/s which achieved the required 0.8 air movements per hour from the end client.ResultThe newly styled Powrmatic Air rotation units in our new RAL 7015 colour were installed expertly by Phase Mechanical Projects. The racked logistic warehouse will now benefit from a frost protection system which will protect the internal sprinkler system from freezing in the colder months. Ogura Ward is one of 6 wards that makes up Chapters House, the mental health facility in Goodmayes Hospital, Ilford. Bushboard supplied high risk healthcare units – healthcare boxed out units with a rigid aluminium frame and panel system – specifically designed for safe ensuites and communal wet rooms in a high security environment. Anti-ligature sanitaryware, crafted from high impact resistant, anti-shatter moulded resin, was pre-plumbed to the units ensuring the safest possible environment.

Tarkett chosen for NHS teenage cancer unit - The unit at Southampton General NHS Hospital was funded by the Teenage Cancer Trust and designed to create a space as comfortable as possible. Featuring six en-suite bedrooms, a four bed day unit, social space and support facilities. The bright and engaging décor of the centre was created using a variety of Tarkett flooring. The Tarkett flooring used included iQ Optima in Yellow, Medium Blue and Green, iQ Eminent in Turquoise and Acczent Excellence 80 in Bamboo.

Cauldwell International Children’s School is an £18 million purpose-built complex and the first of its kind in the UK, a national charity based in Staffordshire dedicated to improving the lives of disabled children.A modern but cost-effective solution was required by the client for their new washroom facilities. Due to this being a charitable organisation, there were budget constraints. Products offered by our competitors were too costly. Studio facilities for a community of hardworking contemporary artists need to be durable and easy to maintain yet aesthetically pleasing, so architects Caruso St John specified made-to-measure stainless steel sinktops from GEC Anderson as part of the £2.25 million redevelopment of the Spike Island art complex on Bristol’s harbourside. GEC Anderson stainless steel sinktops were also specified for the IT suite tea-point, artists’ and visitors’ toilets and baby-change areas. Spike Island, a former tea packing warehouse, has housed local artists’ studios since the 1990s when it replaced the earlier Artspace venture. It has grown to become a national centre for the research and development of contemporary visual arts – including painting, sculpture and print-making – with 70 affordable long-let studios and a series of spaces for more commercial cultural industries, such as design studios. The redevelopment, just completed, includes a welcoming entrance, while the new café is Spike Island’s first shared social space. In addition, studio spaces have been improved and the vast exhibition galleries are among the UK’s most impressive. Caruso St John project architect Rod Heyes says: “When it came to specifying the big washing out sinks, we needed something reliable that would still clean up and look good after the artists had poured plaster, paint and various chemicals over them. We have used GEC Anderson products on several other projects and they are our default supplier for stainless steel. Within the metal work space, extra large Le70 (700 x 500 x 300mm) bowls, were specified. The baby-change area includes an 800mm wide surface. All sinktops are made from satin finish domestic grade stainless steel.

The Ascent stair unit - Industrial stair system was specified to create a safe means of access over roof mounted mechanical and electrical plant and equipment. The roof area is tightly packed with Air conditioning plant creating a unique challenge to design a safe means of access across it. The Ascent step over / stair unit is able to accommodate spans up to 4.5m and was able to be utilised to create a safe access route. The step over unit is supported on rubber spreader feet which provide a non-penetrative support solution on the flat single ply membrane roof. The stair unit is designed in accordance with BS EN ISO 14122-1:2001 + A1:2010 and Building Reg Part K:2013 and manufactured following 1090 factory production control procedures.

IssueA 15-year-old bathroom in a housing development was looking tired and dated and the owner wanted to refresh the area with minimal disruption in a quick timescale. The bathroom had three walls of ceramic tiles, and a sink splashback, which were in good condition but were unfashionable and required high levels of maintenance to remove limescale and mould.The property, a first floor flat, had easy access but no lift, so equipment, materials and any waste needed to be carried up and down the stairs.Approach“We wanted to replace the ceramic tiles, without having to re-plaster the bathroom walls which would mean a complete renovation and redecoration project,” said Helen Green, the owner. “We live in an area with hard water and limescale is a real problem so a wall that is easy to keep clean would be ideal.”SolutionAfter liaising with Altro customer services, the new Altro Walls ShowerKit was recommended as being the ideal solution as the wall panels can be installed over existing ceramic tiles and provides ease of maintenance for residents. There is also no requirement for construction materials or heavy equipment as Altro Walls ShowerKit is lighter to transport than ceramic tiles.

Stainless steel splashbacks, by GEC Anderson, were recently deployed in an apartment kitchen, overlooking London’s Hampstead Heath. The specification was a little challenging due to the shape and size of the required pieces. In particular, the curved corner within the kitchen gave the project very much a one-off feel. Rather than merely being an internal feature, the curve follows the outer form of the brick building.The subtle blend of colours exudes calmness but does not appear cold. This is probably due to the lighting as well as the contrasting colours in the adjacent spaces, notably, the red bench seating but also the dark bookshelf that also follows the curvature of the room.The stainless steel splashbacks were made to measure, to precisely suit the design and requirements and were produced in GEC Anderson’s standard brushed satin finish. Measuring and installation was also undertaken by GEC Anderson.GEC Anderson (founded in 1962) specialise in purpose made stainless steel sinks, worktops, cabinets, shelving and splahsbacks. Mace Group purchased the units directly and free-issued them to the steel frame contractor, VBH JV (a joint venture ofHollandia and Victor Buyck). Some of the units were 7m x 1.5m wide which Ambar Kelly designed to incorporate horizontal fire protection and drylined fire walls as part of the RiserSafe® system. This allowed for a group of shafts, or openings, to be combined into one unit, which reduced the number of trimmer steels and concrete beams required for walls, thereby reducing crane lifts and construction time. An extensive hard landscape setting for the new Tottenham Hotspur Football Club stadium. The large 11,000 m2 paved area has been constructed in a combination of granite and concrete block paving units. Although the area is mainly pedestrian the brief required that the units be completely and permanently bonded into position. This was achieved using Steintec tuffbond in combination with tuffbed 2-pack Type 35 bedding mortar to achieve a minimum 2MPa adhesion between the paving units and the supporting layers. Steintec tufftop Type 40 jointing mortar was used to complete the installation.

Cycle storage for new industrial units and office spaceAs part of a new development near Bristol, which included 4 new industrial units set for various uses, IAE Shelter Division supplied a series of Circonomy Cycle Shelters to provide dry and secure cycle storage, with the aim of encouraging more cycle use on the daily commute.The industrial units varied in size and included manufacturing, warehousing, and office space.As the units varied in size, each unit required a different number of cycle spaces. This is both for practical purposes, and to ensure the development meets BREEAM guidelines, which require a certain amount of dry, secure cycle storage spaces, depending on the number of people occupying the building, and the size of the building.Extendable Modular DesignThe Circonomy Cycle Shelters modular design meant it was ideal to meet these requirements. An individual Circonomy Cycle shelter fits 5 cycle hoops and is suitable to securely store 10 bicycles. Extensions can be added to the end of the shelter to increase capacity as needed. The air-handling unit support frames were supplied via a wholesaler in Hampshire to the building services engineers working on site. There were four large air-handling units to support in total, all circa 6000kg in weight each. All our frameworks were designed to manage the imposed loads of the AHU sections being supported, to ensure uniform load distribution through the frame feet was achieved.

Products from Johnstone’s Trade’s portfolio have created a lasting impression on patients at a state-of-the-art, 24-bed dementia unit in Sunderland. Helping a Gateshead-based decorating contractor win a prestigious Johnstone’s Painter of the Year Award. Thousands of litres of Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt, Premium Contract Matt and Acrylic Eggshell were used throughout the unit by the decorators during a tight four-month timescale. The paint was used on corridors, offices, washrooms, stairwells, lounges, dining areas and doors throughout the unit, all of which now boast bold, fresh looks.

Working with the estates team at Gray’s Inn, one of the four Inns of Court in London, Selectaglaze installed secondary glazing for thermal and noise insulation at Gray’s Inn’s Holborn estate in 1999. 65 windows were treated with large Series 60 tilt-in vertical sliders. In 2017, 40 units were installed; a mixture of Series 10 horizontal sliding units and Series 20 vertical sliding units were installed. Ecoprod recently undertook a complete refurbishment of the washrooms at Dukes Court – 220,000 sq ft of premium office space in central Woking. The project started in January 2020 and handover was July 2020, somewhat later than expected due to the effect of the Covid 19 lockdown in Spring 2020.This project was delivered in collaboration with Designer Contracts Interiors UK Ltd who managed the flooring, walls, ceilings, doors, lighting, tiling, decorating and mirrors. The Canaletto residential tower at 257 City Road in London is located halfway between Old Street and Angel Stations in Islington, alongside the regenerated City Road Basin. It comprises a 31-storey tower with 190 luxury one, two and three bedroom apartments built to the standards of Code 4 Sustainable Homes Level 4.The tower is concrete frame and has a curving facade of metal and glass that breaks the volume into a series of three-to-four storey clusters. In turn, each cluster contains grouped balcony terraces, which are a striking feature of the building. The balconies are of steel construction connected to the concrete frame and as always with cantilever construction elements of this nature, one of the early design considerations had to be the prevention of thermal bridging.For the high specification Canaletto project the Schöck Isokorb® T type SK offers the ideal solution. It is a concrete-to-steel connectivity module that sits between the outer and inner structural connection points and blocks the outflow of heat through the use of high quality polystyrene insulation foam. The Isokorb® T type SK provides a clean and unobtrusive connection detail, minimises on-site assembly time and enables a high level of prefabrication.

We were approached by engineering and construction company Planet Construction to help with a project at Windsor Castle.Our experts met the professionals at Planet Construction on-site to gain a deeper understanding of what was required. The toilets located in the St George's area needed upgrading. The facilities needed to be robust yet stylish and in keeping with the fixtures and fittings. It became clear that the cisterns required weren't a standard size so further investigations were needed to ensure the correct products were installed.After discussions, our specifications team suggested the Dudley Electroflo range encompassing infra-red WC flushing and basin taps. This range was specifically developed to save water and maintain hygiene. A trial took place to ensure the bespoke cisterns wouldn't present any problems before the full installation was carried out. The mechanical services contractor on the project, had a number of different heavy building services that required supporting. This included a 6000kg plantroom, 6000kg generator, two 4500kg air-handling units and a 1150kg air-handling unit. Utilising our Flexi-Heavy Duty range of supports, we designed and calculated individual frameworks for each item of plant, paying particular attention to ensuring that the correct load management through our frames.

The Old Saltings has been created on the middle floor of a nineteenth century saltings, situated right on the beach at Porthmeor in St Ives, Cornwall. What was once a place where pilchards would have been packed and salted, has now been dramatically transformed into a stunning contemporary apartment sleeping up to 8 guests.The spacious kitchen has been designed to make the most of the sea views as well as top of the range appliances and fittings. The brushed-satin stainless steel sinktop from GEC Anderson further enhances the light and contemporary living space. Practical, twin sink bowls are seamlessly integrated within the continuous stainless steel worktop-run that also includes an integrated hob. The back upstand provides water safe and hygienic detailing that is typically demanded by discerning and knowledgeable specifiers.Architect Cany Ash of Ash Sakula said, “The GEC Anderson stainless steel worktop provided edge detailing and a finish which was better than the usual alternatives normally associated with catering applications. We especially like the jointless, continuous nature of the surface area. The other benefit of stainless steel is that it is hard wearing, which is very important in a holiday apartment where it will get significant use.

The newly renovated Grade II* Listed 3-5 Priory Row are a collection of stunning cottages which date back to the 15th Century. As part of the works, Selectaglaze were sub-contracted to manufacture and install the secondary glazing units for thermal and acoustic insulation.38 units were produced from across the slimline range of secondary glazing; Series 10 – 2 and 3 pane sliders were used for the smaller windows and 4 pane horizontal sliding units for those spanning just shy of 2 metres. Series 45 hinged casements were installed, a couple of which were glazed with satinovo glass to provide privacy.

Three Brewers Court consists of two connecting blocks of 4 and 5 storeys of affordable housing units within a sustainable brownfield location. These units consist of 10 two-bedroom apartments and 40 one-bedroom dwellings. The scheme also includes a commercial unit, car parking, bike store and outdoor communal space. Previously occupied by a car sales garage and the Three Brewers pub, these establishments were demolished for this new apartment block. After Wales and West Housing Association’s partner Jehu Group announced it was going into administration, they reached out to Hale Construction to complete the project.Cellecta’s ScreedBoard 30 was specified by Pentan Architects due to its composite acoustic overlay treatment specifically for concrete separating floors. The board’s high density and superior compressive strength resilient layer provides outstanding acoustic performance and an ideal base to accept a multitude of floor finishes.Hale Construction was supplied 3,287m² of Cellecta products to develop these units in Penylan.

Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts (CSVPA) required energy-efficient heating solutions for their student accommodation units. To reduce ongoing energy costs, CSVPA approached Consort Claudgen for an upgrade to their existing heating system. Consort Claudgen recommended Wi-Fi enabled heaters with bespoke screens to meet the heating requirements of CSVPA’s 286 student apartment units.

The unit needed to be separated into three with a split-level mezzanine aspect which presented some serious design issues for both blockwork and metal frame walls. wedi Primo completes luxury in central London Hotel.The Apex Temple Court Hotel is a luxury 4 star hotel, just off Fleet Street central London. Full architectural and interior design was by Ian Springford Architects, Edinburgh.A key factor in the selection of the wedi shower units for each of the 184 bedrooms was the requirement to achieve a high performance quality waterproof bespoke solution capable of adapting to the on site conditions. Ian Springford Architects has specified wedi shower units since 2004 and Apex Temple Court is the fourth Apex hotel where they have been successfully installed. Bespoke pre-fabricated shower units - Fast installation. The key benefits of using wedi were that the Fundo shower design provided simple, fast adaption to the individual shower configurations on site, as well as the detail of enabling the units to extend under the shower door to promote drainage back into the shower area from water falling off the door when in use.Complete prefabricated shower units allow fast dry and accurate construction in ONE integrated product system rather than a combination of different individual manufacturer’s products creating the risk of potential failures between the different systems during assembly and installation. The finished result was a fast track installation of a factory prepared shower system capable of on-site adjustment, delivering a completely waterproof system backed by warranty.
